Reflections of the Life of Herman Myles Although he traveled in and out of the country, Herman dedicated himself to many

Herman Myles, Sr. was born in Klotzville, LA on December 21, 1927, to the late Melvin and Rachael Myles. He departed this life on November 28, 2017 at LaFon Nursing Home in New Orleans, LA.

Herman was educated in Assumption Parish Catholic Schools. He met the dream of his life, Juanita Robertson, and they were united in Holy Matrimony in 1948 at St. Paul the Apostle Church. This union was blessed with two children; 1 daughter, Carolyn and 1 son, Herman, Jr.

Herman was active in St. Frances DeSalle and St. Paul the Apostle churches, serving as an usher for many years. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of Peter Claver Council 325 for many years. Herman was a member of the NAACP and the Autocrat Club. He was also a member of the Zulu Social & Pleasure Club for 42 years. For 36 of those years, he was a Coronation Duke and rode in the Mardi Gras Parades, the highlight of which was being elected the Province Prince Character in 2004.

Herman loved the Lord. He prayed and said his Rosary every day. He also enjoyed being with his family and friends and was an extended dad, uncle and paw paw to many. Herman loved to dress and was known for being “SHARP� all the time. He always had a smile even during his illness.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Rachael & Melvin Myles; brothers, James Myles, Edwin Myles & Ulysses Miles; sisters, Elnita Smith, Mildred Franklin, Hazel Dorsey, Inez Lewis & Madline Landry; great granddaughter, Kayla Babins and Godchild, Herbert Keys, Jr. He leaves to celebrate his memories his devoted wife of 69 years, Juanita Robertson Myles, his daughter, Carolyn M. Ewell (Lawrence); his son, Herman Myles, Jr. (Shanell); 6 grandchildren, Lawrence Ewell, Jr. (Mari), Herman (Serina) and LaToya Brady, Anthony Rock (LaToya), Antoinette Landry (Albert) & Mario Westbrook; 9 great grandchildren, Lawrence, Lance and Laylah Ewell, Ayrianne Rock, Jayla Narcisse, Shermaine Hiem, Kevonte and Kevon Braddy & Mario Westbrook, Jr.; 2 great great grandchildren, Micah Waxter & Maya Ewell; 3 godchildren, Vernon Burrows, Jr., Melvin Robertson & Shernette Snow; devoted nephew, Anthony Robertson, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Herman is at peace with his Heavenly Father.

He will be missed and will remain in our hearts.

Tribute to My Daddy (Da!) All my life I had your love, respect and guidance. I’m going to miss saying the Rosary with you, the quiet moments we shared and the laughter. Your faith and strength never changed. You fondly called me “Your Li’l Girl” and in many ways I still was until you went to your heavenly home. God gave me one of the greatest men in my life, “My Dad.” Thank you Da, for your loving smile when I came to visit you and as we recited our nightly prayer... “Truly God is good all the time and all the time God is Good.”

Tribute to Our Grand…

Herman “Zulu” Myles, Sr., a very very special man who was loved by many and respected by all. If you’re reading this I’m sure he was respected by you as well.

You taught us life’s lessons. You told us to follow our dreams. You taught the boys how to be men and the girls, to be ladies. You always led by example. You were a good husband and provider, and we all knew his name Mr. Myles or Herman. So from all of your Grands both near and far, To God be the Glory! You were our Paw Paw. The Grands

To Our Uncle Herman We will miss your smile. We will think of how you treated us as if we were your own children. We each will remember something special about you in our own way. It was hard to see you getting weak because in our eyes you were always strong, So it is extremely hard to accept that you are gone. To A Great Husband Herman, I truly don’t know where to begin…

But I do know and realize that our life together has come to an end. I thank God for our 69 years together as husband and wife, but it has been over 70 years since you came into my life.

Today is hard, very hard for me to say good-bye, to you my husband who was a wonderful and special guy. You gave me happiness and you gave it so sincerely, each passing day Herman, I will miss you dearly.

With your departure I feel so weary and so all alone, wishing this was a dream and you could come home. You have done what we all must do, and one day I will be with you.

To My Wife My One and Only True Love To my only wife, my only true love…

Nita, I have always thanked my heavenly father for bringing us together many years ago. I fell in love with you back then, I want you to know. So my darling don’t cry too long for me, don’t you dare… just take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there.

I will never be too far from you my dear, so you won’t have to feel lonely because I will always linger near. Sometimes you may feel a gentle stroke on your cheek, a soft kiss on your lips or even a pat on your head. It will be me, so don’t you ever be afraid.

I thank you for giving me the best gift any man can get, a perfect girl for me and a brave boy foe you. Now that I am gone, I know that they will be there to see you through.

My darling wife, I heard you speak, I felt your gentle pats and I heard when you cried. I couldn’t respond my dear, the Lord knows that I tried.

There is and will always be heartaches and sorrow in life, but it was a pleasure and a pure delight to have had you as my wife.
