Broomfield Farmers' Market Readies for 2021 Season
By Megan Mayes
The Broomfield Farmers’ Market is excited to come back this summer for its unofficial 10-year anniversary. Even though last year’s Mini Market was a huge success as the 10th year of operation, the volunteers who make it possible are ready to celebrate this year with a near-normal market experience for all Broomfield residents. The lively community gathering will return on June 15 and be hosted every Tuesday evening throughout the summer. Although some of the most spirited and engaging family activities might be on hold during the first few markets, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. Dave Carter, Volunteer Market Manager, is looking forward to “seeing old friends and making new ones.”

The market volunteers are planning ahead for reduced COVID restrictions in later months, with many of their traditional events ready to be unveiled when the time is right. This includes many community building activities such as live music and children’s crafts and games. Another planned event is the return of the Gathering Tent with food trucks available for neighbors to spend time together. The market volunteers are continuing to monitor regulations closely, as well as promoting increased health and safety measures. When visiting the market, you can expect to see booths spaced six feet apart with plenty of extra room for up to 125 shoppers at a time to visit about 30 vendors. Masks are required in accordance with local regulations and hand sanitizer will be available. Dave’s confidence in their practices is so strong that he believes their slogan could be “safer than the grocery store!”

The Broomfield Farmers’ Market is run entirely by volunteers with the sole intention of serving the local community. Organizers take all of their net profits and give back to the community through grants to Broomfield FISH, A Precious Child, Meals on Wheels, and more. Each week, two booths are provided free of charge to these and other non-profit organizations with the hope of easily connecting organizations with market visitors.
Shoppers using SNAP can have their benefits doubled up to $20, and vouchers for $10 are offered weekly to WIC clients. This is done with the hope of providing access to healthy and nutritious food to every community member. Financial sponsors for these support programs are always welcome.
Through their hard work, the volunteers of the Farmers’ Market are consistently connecting Broomfield residents with the highest quality seasonal produce and products that Colorado has to offer. There is something for everyone to enjoy from produce, baked goods, and pork and poultry, to microgreens, jams and pickles, spices, and salsas. Fans of fresh summer salads can look forward to crisp lettuce and sweet cherries in season as the market opens this month. The volunteers and vendors look forward to seeing you on June 15 for the opening day celebration and every Tuesday evening during the summer.
