The Time of Year for Holiday Cheer

By The City of Broomfield

Start the season off right at Broomfield’s Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2 at the George DiCiero Building at One DesCombes Drive. Join this annual community event including children caroling, cookies, and rides on the holiday wagon, plus the lighting of the holiday tree by Mayor Castriotta and of course, the arrival of Santa Claus.

Individuals 55 and older can enjoy December’s Free Friday Film when The Holiday plays December 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the Broomfield Auditorium. The Holiday is a film about two women troubled with relationship-problems swapping homes in each other’s countries for the holidays.

The Broomfield Library has a number of ways to help you enjoy winter. Track your reading and activities during the Winter Reading Challenge. Read ten days, complete ten activities, or do a combination of both, during the month of December to earn a prize. You can also attend this year’s Winter Library Celebration on Saturday December 10. Stop by the library anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to enjoy live music, crafts, and book recommendations for the whole family.

Want to join an interactive musical experience at a familyfriendly event? Kindermusik’s Holiday Playdate Thursday, December 15 at 10:15 a.m. at the Broomfield Community Center is the perfect opportunity to see what Kindermusik is all about. Enjoy interactive holiday classic tunes and take home a holiday album and instrument to enjoy.

Broomfield’s seniors will not want to miss the Lakeshore Holiday Lunch Friday, December 16 at noon at the Broomfield Community Center. Celebrate the season with a delicious meal of ham, sweet potato casserole, green beans, roasted carrots, cranberry and almond green salad, and holiday cheesecake while enjoying the free entertainment! Pre-registration is required.

The holiday season will continue with Polar Express Storytime Saturday, December 17. Listen to the story “The Polar Express” and enjoy the magic of the holidays at the historic Broomfield Depot Museum. Storytimes will be at 11:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon, 2:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Choose a storytime and then stay for additional activities. Feel free to wear your favorite pajamas or fun holiday outfit to this all-ages event.

As the saying goes, ‘tis better to give than to receive and there are plenty of opportunities to give back to the Broomfield community! Make a child’s holiday season a little brighter by purchasing a gift by December 9 through the Precious Gift Holiday Toy Drive. This annual toy drive is coordinated by A Precious Child, a Broomfield non-profit. Participate by purchasing toys and gift cards online to be shipped directly to A Precious Child; dropping off new, unwrapped gifts in collection bins around city buildings or by sponsoring a specific child by taking a gift tag from the trees at the Paul Derda Rec Center or Broomfield Community Center.

Broomfield would be unrecognizable without volunteers and there is perhaps no greater opportunity to make an impact than to volunteer during the holiday season! View available volunteer opportunities, at Broomfield.org/Volunteer.

Visit Broomfield.org/HolidayCheer for additional details on the programs above, including how to register. May everyone in Broomfield have a holiday season that is merry and bright!
