It appears likely that Elena Kagan will be approved by Congress as the next Supreme Court justice. She will join a court that, according to a recent report, is the most conservative in living memory. The report, detailed in a New York Times article on July 25, 2010, speculates that, based in its first five years of rulings, this Roberts court is likely to “allow a greater role for religion in public life, to permit more participation by unions and corporations in elections and to elaborate further on the scope of the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.
