Towards the end of 2024, the MVP awards announced the winners and out of the seven Alvita and Almus products that made the shortlist, we were delighted with a category winner.

Children’s Hayfever & Allergy Relief Oral Solution

Here are some *suggestions for your customers on how to ease the symptoms in children:

• Advise your customer to give their child plenty of fluids.

Did you know...

Common causes of allergies include hay fever, skin and pet allergies. Unpleasant symptoms can include nasal congestion, itchy eyes and skin, sneezing, wheezing and rashes. Alvita and Almus offer a range of suitable remedies to help your customers manage their allergies.

One-A-Day Allergy Relief Tablets

INDICATIONS:

For the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children over the age of 2 years with a body weight greater than 30kg.

Allergy Relief 8mg Capsule, Hard

INDICATIONS:

For the relief of hay fever, pet, skin and dust allergies.

Don’t forget to suggest other products to customers that may require more than one product to treat their symptoms, such as tablets and eye drops. Hay fever can affect the eyes and so, in some cases, an eye disorder may develop. Infected Eye Ointment Eye Mist

INDICATIONS:

For the treatment of acute bacterial conjunctivitis.

*Did you know... Bacterial conjunctivitis is the second most common cause of infectious conjunctivitis. Between 50–75% of cases of infective conjunctivitis in children are thought to be due to bacterial infection.

INDICATIONS: Lubricates, moisturises and protects dry eyes. Contact lens friendly.

EYE CARE

There is more than one cause of conjunctivitis, yielding different symptoms:

Infective conjunctivitis: caused by bacteria or a virus. It can be caught from and passed on to other people.

Allergic conjunctivitis: often appears with hay fever or perennial rhinitis and is caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites or pet dander coming into contact with the eye. Please see page 36 for our range of allergy products.

Irritant conjunctivitis: caused by foreign objects such as a detached eyelash, outdoor grit or substances such as shampoo or chlorinetreated water.

Oral Syringe and Bottle Adaptor

Medicine Spoon

The Alvita oral syringe is used to administer medication to young children or the elderly. It is a more accurate and easy way to use than a medicine spoon or cup. The syringes are supplied with a bottle adaptor which fits into the bottle neck allowing the syringe to be inserted and liquid easily withdrawn. The special oral syringe end-piece prevents the mounting of a hypodermic needle and the accidental injection of drugs supplied for oral administration only.

DOSAGE:

To be placed in the buccal cavity, high up along the top gum under the upper lip, until dissolved. Do not chew or swallow the tablet.

Duration of treatment: Two days maximum. Adults aged 18 years and over: One or two tablets twice a day. Children and young adults under 18 years: Not recommended. Elderly patients: There is no evidence that dosage need be modified for the elderly.

DOSAGE:

Co-codamol should be used at the lowest effective dose for the shortest period of time. One or two tablets to be swallowed with water. The dose should not be repeated more frequently than every four to six hours and not more than four times in any 24 hour period. Maximum dose is 8 tablets (4.0gm of paracetamol and 64mg of codeine in divided doses) per 24 hours. Do not take continuously for more than 3 days without consulting your doctor. Children aged 16 years to 18 years: The recommended dose for children 16 years and older is 1 to 2 tablets every 6 hours when necessary up to a maximum of 8 tablets in 24 hours. For oral administration:

One tablet should be taken, as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, and no later than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. If vomiting occurs within three hours of taking the tablet, another tablet should be taken immediately. The patient should contact her doctor, family planning clinic or pharmacist for advice and another tablet. Levonorgestrel can be used at any time during the menstrual cycle unless menstrual bleeding is overdue. After using emergency contraception it is recommended to use a local barrier method (e.g. condom, diaphragm, spermicide, cervical cap) until the next menstrual period starts.
