1949 SCHOLARSHIP
The 1949 Scholarship was created in 2018 to celebrate 70 years of the Ouimet Fund and the many students it has helped over the years. It recognizes the great history of the organization, as well as Francis Ouimet and Eddie Lowery. This year’s recipients are Seamus Burke, Patrick Connolly, and Matthew Gallagher Seamus is a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Political Science and Government who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club. Patrick is a senior at Merrimack College majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and minors in Philosophy, Data Science, and Accounting who performed his golf service at North Andover Country Club Matthew is a senior at Bentley University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Meadow Brook Golf Club.
IRVING L. ADLER SCHOLARSHIP
The Irving L. Adler Scholarship was established in 2007 as an 80th birthday present from friends, family, and business associates of Mr. Adler, who passed away in 2020. He was a founder of Adler Blanchard & Associates, LLP and a longtime member of Spring Valley Country Club. He had been a Ouimet Lifetime Member for many years and is the father of Scott Adler, a Ouimet Fund Director. The Adler Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar preparing for a career in education or nursing. This year’s recipient is Chloe Jeniski, a junior at Connecticut College majoring in Education and Government who performed her golf service at Worcester Country Club
FRANK J. AGOSTINO SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by Frank J. Agostino’s friends and family. Frank’s passion for the game of golf began as a caddie at Cohasset Golf Club, shortly after immigrating from southern Italy at the age of five. He excelled at the game, playing at the collegiate level, winning many amateur tournaments at Cohasset GC and Wollaston GC, and maintaining a single digit handicap his entire playing career. Frank loved the game for its ability to connect people from all backgrounds and walks of life, as well as for the values it impressed upon those around the
game. This year’s recipient is Timothy Murphy a senior at University of Wisconsin - Madison majoring in Statisitics with an Economic Analytics Certificate who performed his golf service at Cohasset Golf Club
EVELYN VIRGINIA RUTLEDGE ALEXANDER SCHOLARSHIP
Mrs. Alexander was a Special Education teacher in the Springfield Public School System for over 30 years. She earned a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D in education while working full-time and raising her two children. She was an avid golfer, gardener, and reader. The scholarship was created by her son, Rand, also an ardent golfer and reader. The recipient of the scholarship must live in Hampden County, Massachusetts. This year’s recipient is Jaelyn DeBoise, a junior at Stonehill College majoring in Marketing who performed her golf service at Springfield Country Club
RAND ALEXANDER SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
Established by Ouimet Scholarship Alumni The Rand Alexander Scholarship was established in 2017 in honor of Rand Alexander. The scholarship was funded, in part, by proceeds of the annual Igoe Memorial Golf Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. Mr. Alexander and his wife Cheryl continue to be champion supporters of The Fund and the Wellesley Country Club caddie program, where they have been longtime members. He was a scholarship student at Dartmouth College and learned to play golf on the municipal courses in his hometown of Springfield. After earning an MBA at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he spent 28 years in the investment management business, retiring as a partner from Wellington Management Company in 2005. He and his wife, Cheryl, believe that access to education provides access to opportunity. In 2015, Mr. Alexander also created the Evelyn Virginia Rutledge Alexander Scholarship in memory of his mother. The Rand Alexander Scholarship is for an inner-city Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Nathan Daley, a junior at University of Hartford majoring in Management who performed his golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park

ALTMAN/MCLAUGHLIN AWARD
Two longtime friends who are natives of Brookline, Roger Altman and Jay McLaughlin, established the award. Mr. Altman is Chairman of Evercore Partners, specializing in mergers and acquisitions of major media properties. He is a former Deputy and Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury. Mr. McLaughlin is a graduate of The College of the Holy Cross and University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is a former United States Treasury official and is currently a Municipal Marketing Manager for the Eastern Region at IESI. This award, established in 2002, is presented to a Ouimet Scholar from Brookline who has worked at or been connected with Brookline Golf Club at Putterham and attended Brookline Public Schools or other inner-city schools for at least six years. This year’s recipient is John Daly, a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club.

ANDOVER COMPANIES SCHOLARSHIP
The Andover Companies Scholarship was established in 2020 to coincide with their Chairman & CEO, Mac Brawn, receiving the Ouimet Fund’s Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award. Since the inaugural Ouimet Banquet in 1997, Mac Brawn and The Andover Companies have not missed a year as a major sponsor of the event.
Mr. Brawn went to work at The Andover Companies as an underwriter in 1964 and has been there ever since in many roles including current position as Chairman & CEO.
Mr. Brawn has ingrained golf in the culture of The Andover Companies, and it is his belief that “You can learn a lot about a person on the golf course.” The company is proud of this scholarship which will be designated for a Ouimet Scholar who has been an exemplary caddie at his or her club of service or a Scholar from nearby Vesper Country Club. This year’s recipient is Matthew Marchese, a sophomore at Bowdoin College majoring in Economics with a minor in Environmental Science who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.
FREDERICK A. BAILEY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 1998 and is named after Mr. Bailey, a former member of Charles River and Brae Burn Country Clubs who frequently played with Francis Ouimet. Mr. Bailey was an insurance executive who died in 1967. This year’s recipient is Roger Horstmann, a junior at Lafayette College majoring in Bioengineering who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club

DAVID & KATHLEEN BAUM FAMILY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
The David & Kathleen Baum Family Foundation Scholarship was created to thank the team at Brae Burn, which makes the club a true community. The Baum Family has been blessed to be members of this community for nearly 25 years and deeply believes in giving back through this scholarship. The Baum family created this scholarship to support the future success of Brae Burn golf staff and employees who make the club a home for so many. This year’s recipient is Michael Greystone, a junior at Babson College majoring in Entrepreneurship
RAYMOND M. BLUE SCHOLARSHIP
The Anders Fund is named after Fred Anders, the late caddie manager at The Country Club. The award is funded by proceeds of the Anders Tournament and is limited to caddies at The Country Club. This year’s recipients are Paulina Curtin, Colm McCarthy, Thomas Statham, and Jack Tortolani Paulina is a senior at McGill University majoring in Biodiversity and Conservation who performed her golf service at The Country Club Colm is a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at The Country Club. Thomas is a senior at University of Vermont majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Entrepreneurship with a minor in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism who performed his golf service at The Country Club Jack is a senior at Plymouth State University majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at The Country Club In 2013, The Anders Committee added a new scholarship, the Newell, Pyle, Sears Scholarship. It honors the late J. Louis Newell, Charles Pyle, and John Sears. This year’s recipient is Jeffrey Monahan, a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in Managerial Economics who performed his golf service at The Country Club.
ROBERT B. BACHMAN SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
This scholarship was created in 2015 in honor of the late Bob Bachman, prior to his passing in 2021. Mr. Bachman was a native of the Philadelphia area and a World War II veteran. He worked in sales in the steel industry for 70 years. Bob spent 40 years with Lukens Steel and was a manufacturer’s representative for 30 years. He joined Brae Burn Country Club in 1958 and was a single digit handicap player for many years. Bob had a great love and passion for the game. On several occasions, he had the honor of playing golf with Francis Ouimet. He and his wife, Libby, have four children and many grandchildren. The Robert B. Bachman Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Brae Burn or an inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Alexander Chan, a senior at Union College majoring in Economics with a minor in Data Analytics who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club
The Bank of America Championship was a PGA TOUR Champions event that was played for many years at Nashawtuc Country Club and was conducted by Nashawtuc Charities, a charitable arm of the club. The award was established in 2004. This year’s recipient is Patrick Connerney, a junior at Clemson University majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at Nashawtuc Country Club
BARRETT - O’HARA FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established in 2004 and is for a Ouimet Scholar attending nursing school or intending to attend medical school. This year’s recipient is Erin Foster, a senior at Quinnipiac University majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
TOM BARRETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Tom Barrett Memorial Scholarship was created by the family of Mr. Barrett in 2005. Mr. Barrett was a Vice President of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, and the founder and first Chairman of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament. He was also a President of Woodland Golf Club. He had been a sales executive with a school supplies company and died in 1974 at age 46. The Barrett Memorial Scholarship is given each year to a Ouimet Scholar from one of the clubs that hosts a round of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament that year. This year’s recipient is Robert Geswell, a freshman at Merrimack College majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at Woodland Golf Club
The Raymond M. Blue Scholarship was created by his family in 2005. The late Mr. Blue had been a native of Brookline, MA (like Francis Ouimet) and a highly enthusiastic and popular golfer at Charles River Country Club and Woodland Golf Club. He practiced Mr. Ouimet’s values, including the belief that “gentlemanly play, and not necessarily low scores, is an important aspect of golf.” Mr. Blue was President of food brokerage companies in Connecticut and Massachusetts and raised nine children with his late wife, Priscilla. One of his sons, Jim, is a former Ouimet Fund President. The Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who have worked at Charles River or Woodland or are from Newton and have worked at a nearby club. This year’s recipient is Peter Bonadio, Jr., a sophomore at New England Institute of Technology majoring in Marine Technology who performed his golf service at Charles River Country Club.
CAROLYN N. BODAY SCHOLARSHIP
Carolyn is a longtime supporter of the Ouimet Scholarship Fund. She became a Lifetime Member in 2007. Her interest in golf started in 1966, when she and her late husband, George, joined Oakley Country Club where she learned to play golf. She volunteered at Oakley, the WGAM, and the Belmont’s Special Olympics Golf Program. The Carolyn N. Boday Scholarship is for female Scholars from Oakley Country Club, another nearby club, or inner-city female Scholars. This year’s recipient is Alyson Greeley, a junior at UMass Lowell majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course

The Les Bond/Wellesley Country Club Scholarship was established in 2006 and is funded by the proceeds of the annual Igoe Pro-Am at Wellesley and other donations. Mr. Bond was head professional at Wellesley for 34 years and a former President of the New England PGA. He founded the Igoe Tournament to help the Igoe family after the 1967 death of Jack Igoe, his predecessor as Wellesley’s golf professional. When the Igoe family’s education was completed, the tournament’s proceeds were directed to other causes, including the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is Andrew Pini, a senior at Ohio State University majoring in Business Administration - Marketing.

The Boston Police Athletic League Scholarship was founded in 2006 by the late Gerald Ridge through donations from the BPAL. The scholarship is presented annually to a Ouimet Scholar who is a Boston resident and has done their golf service at Franklin Park or George Wright Golf Courses. This year’s recipient is Owen Galvin, a freshman at Providence College majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

GEORGE L. & E. THERESA BRANDI SCHOLARSHIP
at College of William and Mary majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Hyannisport Club
This scholarship was originally established in 2010 as the Charles River Country Club Scholarship and was re-named after Judge Patrick F. Brady in 2016. Judge Brady served on the Massachusetts Superior Court bench for 25 years until his retirement in 2015. He died suddenly in September of 2016. He was a great supporter of the caddie program at Charles River Country Club. The scholarship is funded through a special giving program at Charles River. The scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who have performed their golf service at that club, which has been home to seven Ouimet Fund Presidents. This year’s recipients are Curtis Hindermann and Dominic Mariani Curtis is a junior at Elon University majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Charles River Country Club. Dominic is a junior at Clark University majoring in Management who performed his golf service at Charles River Country Club.
BRAE BURN COUNTRY CLUB/MICKEY LANE SCHOLARSHIP
The officers and members of Brae Burn Country Club established this scholarship in 2000. It was established in recognition of the late Mr. Lane, who served as assistant or head professional at Brae Burn for 37 years. This year’s recipient is Andrew Park, a junior at Georgetown University majoring in Finance and Management with a minor in Entrepreneurship.
Established in 2013, this scholarship honors the late Mr. and Mrs. Brandi, who raised eight children and instilled in them a love of hard work and education. The scholarship was created by Gerry Brandi, who was first exposed to golf at the Maplewood Caddy Camp in New Hampshire. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from a large family. This year’s recipient is Daniel Cavanagh, a junior at Babson College majoring in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Real Estate who performed his golf service at Ledgemont Country Club and Woods Hole Golf Club.

The Boston Strong Scholarship was established in 2014 by an anonymous Friend of The Fund who wanted to honor the spirit of the City of Boston. The Boston Strong Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who have performed their golf service at Boston Golf Club, The Kittansett Club, or a daily fee club in Massachusetts. This year’s recipients are Philip le Gassick and Aidan Miller Philip is a sophomore at UMass Amherst majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club Aidan is a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in Business Administration in Finance who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club.
BRAE BURN CC CADDIE ALUMNI ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

The Brae Burn CC Caddie Alumni Endowed Scholarship was established in 2015 through an appeal headed by a group of Ouimet Alumni, Brae Burn members, and former Brae Burn caddies. It honors the long tradition of caddies at Brae Burn and is for Ouimet Scholars who have been caddies at Brae Burn. This year’s recipient is Roger Horstmann, a junior at Lafayette College majoring in Bioengineering.
This scholarship was created by Mrs. Brent and her son, I. D’Arcy Brent III (Duffy), in 2012 in memory of Colonel Brent, who died in 2010 at age 90. Colonel and Mrs. Brent shared a lifelong passion for golf and enjoyed the chance to introduce people of all ages to the game. They were longtime members of Concord Country Club. During Colonel Brent’s career, he had been a CIA Operative during the Cold War and advisor to two White House Administrations. He left the CIA to join the private defense contracting industry, serving as Executive Vice President of Baird Corporation in Bedford, MA. In 2020, Audrey Brent passed away at the age of 99 years young, loving the legacy that this scholarship created for young people. This year’s recipients are Matthew Gallagher and Tyler Ryan, Sr. Matthew is a senior at Bentley University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Meadow Brook Golf Club. Tyler is a senior at Suffolk University majoring in Business Marketing who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club

The Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Scholarship was established in 2012 by a group of BBH partners. Mr. Ouimet worked at BBH for many years, where the firm maintains a boardroom named in his honor. This year’s recipient is Blake Swartz, a sophomore
In 2015, the Kevin & Steve Buckley Scholarship was established by their family in their memory. Kevin, along with his three brothers, grew up caddying and learning the game of golf at The Country Club in the 1960s. A gifted athlete who had dreams of playing professional baseball, he was tragically injured playing football at age 17 and lived the rest of his life as a quadriplegic. Despite that setback, Kevin never stopped joining in the activities of friends and family, particularly his fellow caddies from TCC. He was a frequent participant at the Anders Fund outing and was a caddie for whom Fred Anders had a fond connection. His family has designated the Kevin & Steve Buckley Scholarship recipient to be a Boston area Ouimet Scholar who has completed his golf service as a TCC caddie, just like Kevin. Steve Buckley was an Alumnus, President, and Trustee of the Ouimet Fund, and was critical to the creation and development of our endowed program. This year’s recipient is Nicholas Mihopoulos, a senior at UMass Amherst majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Country Club.
JOHN BUDD SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created from proceeds of a fundraising event honoring John Budd’s 80th birthday in 2021. John’s Flag Day birthday was also a celebration of his funding of a new flagpole at Tatnuck Country Club where he has been a member since 1971. He has been instrumental in Ouimet activities at the club for many years, having previously served as Ouimet Chair. John is also a Ouimet Lifetime Member and has designated this scholarship to be awarded annually to a Ouimet Scholar from the Worcester community. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Donahue, a junior at University of New England majoring in Applied Exercise Science who performed his golf service at Tatnuck Country Club

This scholarship was instituted in 1996 and is in honor of Mr. Burnett, a lifelong Western Massachusetts resident. The scholarship was funded by contributions from family and friends. The scholarship is earmarked for a Western Massachusetts Ouimet Scholar who demonstrates a commitment to and love for golf. This year’s recipient is Alexander Axt a junior at University of Tennessee majoring in Turfgrass Management who performed his golf service at Taconic Golf Club.
PRESCOTT S. BUSH SCHOLARSHIP
The Prescott S. Bush Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the 2002 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet honoring Former President George H.W. Bush and is named after the late father of Mr. Bush. Prescott S. Bush was a United States Senator from Connecticut and also served as President of the United States Golf Association in 1934. Mr. Bush worked at Brown Brothers Harriman in investments, where he was a partner of and friendly with Francis Ouimet. This year’s recipient is Quin McGlame, a senior at Trinity College majoring in Political Science and History who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club
JIMMY BYRNE SCHOLARSHIP
The Jimmy Byrne Scholarship was funded by several members from Cape Cod National Golf Club, who made donations to honor their dear friend. Jimmy Byrne passed away suddenly in 2022. The outpouring of support to establish this permanent legacy was a testament to Jimmy as a well-loved and respected friend, co-worker, coach, husband, and father. Jimmy grew up as a caddie in New York and worked to put himself through St. John’s University. The scholarship preference is for a Ouimet Scholar from Cape Cod National or surrounding towns on lower Cape Cod. This year’s recipient is Aidan Roche, a senior at Providence College majoring in Finance with a minor in History who performed his golf service at Cape Cod National Golf Club
PHIL & BLANCHE CAHALIN SCHOLARSHIP
The Phil & Blanche Cahalin Scholarship was established in 2007 by friends of the Cahalins from the proceeds of a special tournament that honored them at Pinehills Golf Club. Sadly, Mr. Cahalin passed away in 2019. The Cahalins were longtime members of Hatherly Country Club and parents of six children, two of whom died at early ages. Mr. Cahalin was introduced to the game by his grandfather, who was a close friend of Francis Ouimet. Mr. Cahalin became a prominent attorney in Boston. He was a member of the Ouimet Board of Directors and Ouimet Chair at Hatherly Country Club. The Phil and Blanche Cahalin Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending The College of the Holy Cross, Mr. Cahalin’s undergraduate alma mater. This year’s recipient is Timothy Wright, a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross who performed his golf service at Dedham Country & Polo Club.
ELY CALLAWAY SCHOLARSHIP
The Ely Callaway Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2010 Annual Banquet at the recommendation of the Banquet’s honoree, Annika Sorenstam. The late Mr. Callaway was the legendary founder of Callaway Golf, known for revolutionizing the game with advanced club technology. Mr. Callaway was a mentor to Ms. Sorenstam, and she credits him with allowing her to concentrate on her career. Mr. Callaway also signed stars such as Arnold Palmer and Phil Mickelson to his brand, and Callaway Golf has been one of the top-selling golf brands around the world. This year’s recipient is Mia Lombardi, a freshman at Trinity College majoring in Sports Management who performed her golf service at Concord Country Club
CAMPBELL-BEACH SCHOLARSHIP
Established by a Ouimet Alumnus
The Campbell-Beach Scholarship was created by Alumnus Daniel McLaughlin and his wife, Julie, in 2017. It honors two golf professionals, the late Ken Campbell and Bob Beach, the retired head pro at Braintree Municipal Golf Course. Mr. McLaughlin worked at Ponkapoag Golf Course as a youth, where Mr. Campbell was a great mentor to him. Mr. Beach is renowned for his work teaching handicapped veterans and those with disabilities. The McLaughlin’s chose to recognize Mr. Campbell and Mr. Beach as they have had a profound impact on Dan and thousands of others. The Campbell-Beach Scholarship is restricted to Ouimet Scholars who have worked at daily fee golf courses, have assisted with junior golf programs or with golfers with disabilities, or have great financial need. This year’s recipient is Colby Keating, a junior at Bentley University majoring in Corporate Finance and Accounting who performed his golf service at Pinehills Golf Club
CAPE COD NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Cape Cod National Scholarship was founded in 2006 through a donation program from members of the club.
FRANK CARTAGLIA WELLESLEY COUNTRY CLUB CADDIE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created in 2022 in honor of longtime Director of Outside Operations Frank Cartaglia. After 25 years, Frank retired as one of the most important faces at Wellesley Country Club. Members and guests were always welcomed by Frank’s outgoing personality and positive attitude. There was no better person to greet them than Frank—always upbeat, genuine, and sincere, with a glasshalf-full outlook. As Director of Outside Operations, Frank coached, mentored, and tutored hundreds of caddies and bag room staff, guiding them through their college journeys. The Frank Cartaglia Wellesley Country Club Caddie Scholarship will be awarded to a Ouimet Scholar from Wellesley CC who is a caddie. It’s a fitting tribute to a cherished member of the club’s team. This year’s recipient is Brendan MacLeod, a junior at Villanova University majoring in Accounting

Michael is a junior at Providence College.
This scholarship is funded by the members of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association and was established in 1998 and renamed in 2012 in honor of Jack Casey, who initiated the program. Mr. Casey died in 2014. The scholarship is presented to a Ouimet Scholar from one of the clubs which hosts a New England Senior Golfers’ Association event. MARY CASEY SCHOLARSHIP
The Mary Casey Scholarship was established in 2006 by her son, William Casey. Mrs. Casey, who died at age 72 in 1984, lived in Swampscott, MA, where she raised four sons – Bill, Peter, Tom, and Jack. She was a Controller for Swartz and Benjamin Shoe Factory in Lynn, MA. She instilled a work ethic and family values in her children and was always interested in the best education possible for her boys. The Mary Casey Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Northeastern University. This year’s recipient is Dylan McCabe, a freshman at Northeastern University majoring in Biomedical Science and Classics who performed his golf service at Hyannisport Club
CASSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
The Casson Family Scholarship was established in 2006 by Harold and Mary Lou Casson in honor of Harold’s late parents, Harold, Sr. and Eleanor, and late brothers, Allan and Samuel Casson. Allan Casson was a University of Southern California Professor of English Emeritus. He spent 45 years on the USC faculty, taught 35 different courses, and was honored several times as the university’s top professor. He died in 2005. Samuel Casson graduated from USC, produced and directed theatrical productions at USC, taught bridge, and was an authority on grand opera. He died in 2006. Harold Casson passed away in 2015. Mary Lou passed away in 2022. The Casson family had been longtime members of Oakley Country Club. The Casson Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from one of the eight clubs that make up the Boston Summer Twi League. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Parker, a junior at ECPI University majoring in Cyber and Information Security Technology who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club.
COAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Established by Ouimet Alumni
The Coan Family Scholarship was established in 2014 by Ouimet Alumni from the Coan Family in honor of John T. Coan, Jr. (Jack) and his brother, Richard (Dick) Coan. Jack and Dick caddied and worked in other capacities, including as caddie managers, at Tedesco Country Club in the 1940s. Many members of the extended Coan family grew up working at various courses
and became Ouimet Scholars. Dick Coan was a member of the original 1949 class of Ouimet Scholars. The Coan Family Scholarship is awarded to a Ouimet Scholar who has completed their service at one of the following clubs: Beverly Golf and Tennis Club, Essex County Club, Hatherly Country Club, Myopia Hunt Club, Salem Country Club, or Tedesco Country Club. Eligible Scholars may also have attended a North Shore high school.This year’s recipient is William Flaherty, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Political Science who performed his golf service at Salem Country Club.
CONNELLY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created consistent with a long-held Connelly Family belief that education is the “great equalizer.” It is designed to support the educational pursuits of deserving Scholars who exhibit the qualities of hard work, enthusiasm, academic achievement, and respect for the game of golf, its traditions and culture. Candidates hail from the clubs or towns the donors have enjoyed, or lived in, at various stages of their life – Dedham, Westwood, Wellesley, or Needham. This year’s recipient is Andrew Pini, a senior at Ohio State University majoring in Business Administration - Marketing who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club

Dick Connolly and his family established this scholarship in 1998. Mr. Connolly is a Ouimet Alumnus and former Ouimet President. He is now a Director and Trustee and had served as Chair of the Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament for 40 years. He and his wife, Ann Marie, have also been the presenting sponsors of the Ouimet Annual Banquet since 1997. The Ouimet Fund’s Distinguished Service Award is named after Mr. Connolly. This scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2008 Spirit of Golf Award banquet at which Dick Connolly was honored in recognition of his 40 years of service and contributions to the Ouimet Fund. Mr. Connolly is a Ouimet Alumnus, former President, and now a Director and Trustee. He has led The Fund’s Board Governance Committee and has been the key inspiration behind the Ouimet Annual Banquet and its presenting sponsor since inception in 1997. Dick and his wife Ann Marie have also endowed a separate scholarship in their family’s name, and the Ouimet Fund’s Distinguished Service Award is named after him. This year’s recipients are Luciano Borgese, Seamus Burke, and Cooper Chapman. Luciano is a junior at Providence College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club. GERALD F. CORCORAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Gerald F. Corcoran Scholarship was established in 2017. Jerry spent 37 years in the Abington School system as a high school teacher, golf coach, soccer coach, director of library services, summer school director, night school director, and advisor to numerous other school activities. As a young boy growing up in Brockton, he spent several years caddying at Thorny Lea Golf Club alongside his older brother, Jim. He passed on his love for golf to his twin sons, Mark and Mike, who became caddies and worked in the bag room at Thorny Lea in the late 1970s. Jerry kept in touch with his many former high school golfers and followed their successes. He maintained his love for the game playing with friends across New England until he passed away in 2014. The Corcoran Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Plymouth County. This year’s recipient is Tyler Ryan, Sr., a senior at Suffolk University majoring in Business Marketing who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club
The Charlie Crenshaw Scholarship was funded from proceeds of the 1999 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet and is named after Ben’s father, Charlie, who died a few weeks after the event. Mr. Crenshaw was an attorney in Austin, Texas and a lifelong golfer. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Sapovits, a senior at Williams College majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Pocasset Golf Club
BOB & SALLY CROCE SCHOLARSHIP
Mr. and Mrs. Bob and Sally Croce were proud to establish this scholarship in 2019. Mrs. Croce first learned about golf from twin aunts, who were fine golfers at Hatherly Golf Club. She took some golf lessons as a teenager and finally started to play after she and Bob had married, started a family, and joined Brae Burn Country Club in 1972. Her first regular rounds were with friends, and she quickly developed a deep appreciation for golf and the caddies, whom she admired as a hard-working and intelligent group of young people. Mr. Croce felt the same and even chose to hire one of Sally’s regular caddies after he finished at Boston College. Their scholarship will primarily be directed to female Ouimet Scholars or Scholars who worked at Brae Burn or Hatherly. This year’s recipient is Haliegh Holmes, a freshman at Quinnipiac University majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at Brae Burn Country Club

Established in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus
The Peter Dalton Scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Dalton, who passed away in 2016. It was funded by memorial donations and a memorial golf tournament held by his family and friends in 2016 at Tedesco Country Club. Mr. Dalton had been the Ouimet Chair at Tedesco and supported The Fund in many ways, including supplying much of the ProQuip clothing and merchandise used during the Ouimet Centennial. He was a great advocate of caddies and encouraged numerous young people to apply for Ouimet Scholarships. Peter grew up in Beverly, began working as a caddie at Myopia Hunt Club, and later attended Boston College, where he played on the golf team. He worked in golf sales for most of his career, including for 21 years with the Ben Hogan Company. He always felt a highlight was having played golf with Mr. Hogan. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore and/or one who displays great heart, drive, and determination. This year’s recipient is Leilani Brown, a senior at Covenant College majoring in Business with a concentration in Marketing and minors in Sports Management and Pyschology who performed her golf service at Bass Rocks Golf Club
JERRY DALY SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2003, the Jerry Daly Scholarship honors the late Mr. Daly, a longtime member of The Kittansett Club and former Kittansett Club president, who was a prominent executive with the Titleist, FootJoy, Etonic, Rockport, and Miller Golf companies. He was an accomplished amateur golfer and had been the Dartmouth Golf Captain and Massachusetts Four-Ball Champion. Mr. Daly died in 2002. The scholarship is funded by proceeds of the Jerry Daly Father & Son Invitational Tournament at The Kittansett Club. The Daly Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars from The Kittansett Club or residents of Marion or the surrounding community. This year’s recipient is Curtis Merritt, a senior at Howard University majoring in TV/Film who performed his golf service at The Kittansett Club.
LAWRENCE E. DERITO SCHOLARSHIP
Established by a Ouimet Alumnus
Lawrence E. Derito established this scholarship in 2019. Mr. Derito grew up as a caddie at Thorny Lea Golf Club, received a Ouimet Scholarship to help with his tuition at Providence College, and then, after four years in the Air Force, went on to receive the Ouimet Danforth Award at Harvard Business School. He fondly
remembers his experience of being selected as one of the Ouimet Scholars to caddie in the 1963 U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club. Mr. Derito drew Dow Finsterwald, who was one of the top players on the PGA Tour then, and Mr. Finsterwald was in contention until the end. He was in the final group for the 36 holes that was then played on the final day. Although Mr. Finsterwald faltered somewhat, a special highlight for Mr. Derito was holding the pin for Jackie Cupit when he chipped in for birdie on the 17th hole, which drew him into a playoff with Arnold Palmer and Julius Boros, who went on to win the playoff. Larry also had his picture taken with Honorary Chair Francis Ouimet, and the photo was seen the next day in the Boston Globe. Mr. Derito was a pioneer in the specialized temporary professional staff business. He served on the Ouimet Board for six years, including serving as Alumni Chair. Mr. Derito lives in Jupiter, Florida where he was Chair of the 1992 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship at Loxahatchee Club. He feels that working in golf was a great experience, and the help from the Ouimet Fund and the game were very important in his life. This scholarship will be for a Ouimet Scholar who performed their golf service at Thorny Lea or Salem Country Club. This year’s recipient is Michael McCallum, a freshman at Stonehill College who performed his golf service at Thorny Lea Golf Club.
WALTER F. DEVITT SCHOLARSHIP
The Walter F. Devitt Scholarship was created in 2015 by his grandson, David B. Fite, Jr. Mr. Devitt died in 1991. He was a graduate of Bentley College and was the Treasurer of Lynn Gas and Electric. He went on to become the Treasurer of Massachusetts Gas and Electric and the Assistant Treasurer of the Northeast for the New England Electric System, retiring in 1973. He was a life member and Treasurer of the Central Congregational Church in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a longtime member of the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club. Mr. Devitt was an avid golfer and introduced his grandson to the game. This year’s recipient is Alexandre Hananian, a junior at Bentley University majoring in Corporate Finance and Accounting who performed his golf service at Oakley Country Club.

Established in Honor of a Ouimet Alumnus
The Ron Dion Scholarship was created in 2020 in memory of Mr. Dion, who died in 2007. It was funded by memorial donations in his honor and subsequent gifts. Ron Dion was a Ouimet Scholarship Alumnus, who had been a caddie and caddie manager at Tedesco Country Club. He served on the Ouimet Board of Directors as Clerk and Counsel and was the Ouimet Chair at Tedesco for many years. At Tedesco, he oversaw the
club’s fundraising, Marathon efforts, and recruited numerous Ouimet Scholarship applicants. Mr. Dion had been a wellknown businessman and civic leader in Boston, helping with many community causes. He was on multiple corporate Boards of Directors, including Chairing the Greater Boston Real Estate Board. He was also a Trustee of Emmanuel College and an Advisory Board Member of the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who performed their golf service at Tedesco. This year’s recipient is Kyle Rush, a freshman at Bentley University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.
RICHARD DIXON SCHOLARSHIP
The Richard Dixon Scholarship was created in 2021 from funds set aside from the Trust of Mr. Richard Dixon. Mr. Dixon was a great supporter of youth programs and education, and he specifically endeavored to support organizations that create increased opportunities for young men and women in need. Mr. Dixon learned about and fell in love with the mission of the Ouimet Fund after being introduced to the organization by his dear friend Mr. Kevin Minihan, himself a great supporter of The Fund. The Richard Dixon Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar or Scholars who attend The College of the Holy Cross or Boston College. This year’s recipient is Michael Stagnone, a junior at Boston College majoring in both History and in Management with a concentration in Finance who performed his golf service at Vesper Country Club.
DONOVAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in the Centennial year of 2013 by former Ouimet Fund Executive Director Bob Donovan and his wife, Theresa. It was created in honor of Bob’s late father, J.J. Donovan, who died in 1997. He started in the game caddying with his father on the North Shore and was deeply involved in and passionate about golf his entire life. He enjoyed playing the game with his wife, Lola, and passed on the love of the game to his son and grandchildren, who were fourth generation caddies. The Donovan Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who enthusiastically participates in Ouimet activities and events. This year’s recipient is Parker Hunt, a senior at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at The Ridge Club
ED DUDLEY AWARD
Inner-City Award
The Ed Dudley Award was created after the 2003 Annual Banquet at the request of honoree Chi Chi Rodriguez, in honor of his teacher and mentor Ed Dudley. Mr. Dudley taught Chi Chi when he was Head Professional at Dorado Beach Country Club in Puerto Rico. Mr. Dudley, who passed away in 1963, had a superb career in golf. He was the first head professional at Augusta National Golf Club and served as a professional at The Broadmoor in Colorado for 22 years. He finished third in the 1937 Masters. He is best remembered as a teacher, and his students included former President Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower, whom he cured of his slice, former USGA President Judy Bell, Bing Crosby, and Bob Hope. He served as President of the PGA of America from 1942-1948 and was elected to the PGA Golf Hall of Fame in 1964. This year’s recipient is Nina Tran, a sophomore at UMass Amherst majoring in Sports Management who performed her golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
CHARLIE EARP SCHOLARSHIP
The Charlie Earp Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2005 Annual Banquet at the recommendation of the Banquet’s honoree Greg Norman. Mr. Earp is a legendary Australian professional who mentored Mr. Norman. Mr. Earp was regarded as one of the world’s finest club professionals. He was a tremendous champion of junior golf and has coached thousands of young players. In addition to Mr. Norman, other Earp protégés include former PGA champ Wayne Grady, Hall of Famer Karrie Webb, and Masters Champion Adam Scott. Mr. Earp was instrumental in the founding of the Greg Norman Golf Foundation and served as President and Chairman. This year’s recipient is Edward Freking, a senior at Amherst College majoring in Mathematics who performed his golf service at Hyannisport Club

The Eastward Ho! Scholarship was established in 2007 by a group of Eastward Ho! members who made generous donations to fund this special scholarship. The Els Family Scholarship was established in 2023 from the proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2023 Annual Banquet, which honored Ernie. It was one of the most memorable nights in Ouimet Fund history. Ernie shared insights into his family’s philanthropic priorities, while Ouimet Scholar student speaker Anthony Adelizzi inspired the audience—including Ernie and his wife, Liezl—with his powerful story of confronting the challenges of autism spectrum disorder head-on. The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Ernie and Liezl shortly after their son, Ben, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Foundation’s global mission is to transform the lives of people with autism and those who care for them through lifetime services and collaborative partnerships. This year’s recipient is Anthony Adelizzi, a senior at Methodist University majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing and a concentration in PGM Golf Management who performed his golf service at Cape Cod National Golf Club

The Farrington Family Scholarship was established by Dennis Farrington in honor of his family. Mr. Farrington, a Ouimet Alumnus, worked at the Hyannisport Club as a caddie and caddie manager from 1952 to 1963. He graduated from Boston College in 1963 and enjoyed a successful career in advertising, spending his final 25 years at the prestigious agency Hill Holliday Connors Cosmopulos. This year’s recipient is Matthew Ober, a senior at North Carolina State majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Business who performed his golf service at Green Hill Municipal Golf Course
RAYMOND FAXON SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, established in 1999 by the late Mr. Raymond Faxon, is designated for Ouimet Scholars from Cape Cod. Part of the proceeds from the 2015 Annual Banquet honoring his grandson, Brad, went towards this scholarship. Mr. Faxon had been a very successful investor who was also involved in golf for many years. He founded or managed several caddie camps on the Cape when he was young. JOHN F. FLAVIN CONCORD COUNTRY CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Originally established in 2012, the contributors of this scholarship memorialized John F. Flavin by renaming the scholarship in 2013 after contributions to the endowed fund were made by the late Mr. Flavin’s five children. Dr. Flavin and his wife of 63 years, Evelyn, were active members of Concord Country Club. Jack, as he was familiarly known, was passionate about the game of golf and played many of the courses along the East Coast. He was a former Concord Country Club president, member of the Hickory Shafts, New England Senior Golfers’ Association, and a supporter of the Ouimet Fund for many years. The John F. Flavin Concord Country Club Scholarship is awarded to a Ouimet Scholar from Concord Country Club. This year’s recipient is Ashley Wieland, a sophomore at St. Lawrence University majoring in Psychology with a minor in Education who performed her golf service at Concord Country Club.

Charles Fox, Sr. was the first Ouimet Alumnus to become Ouimet Fund President. His term as President included leading the fundraising effort for the original Ouimet Golf House project in the mid-seventies. Prior to Charlie’s passing in 2019, he was heavily involved as a Trustee for many years and received the Richard F.
Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Janice Fox has also assisted The Fund in many volunteer efforts over the years, including the Annual Banquet and Spirit of Golf events. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has performed exemplary community service. This year’s recipient is Jared Shea, a junior at Bentley University majoring in Quantitative Economics, Data Analytics, and Professional Sales who performed his golf service at Norfolk Golf Club

The Killer Foy Scholarship was established in 2012 with a donation from The Freckles Foundation. Subsequent donations have been made by Rob and Sue Bushman in honor of the late Mr. Foy, a longtime PGA TOUR caddie, member of the Professional Caddies Association Hall of Fame, and a great mentor to many. The scholarship is awarded to Ouimet Scholars who agree to take at least one college accounting course and have performed their service to golf at The Country Club, William J. Devine at Franklin Park Golf Course, George Wright Golf Course, or the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course at PutterhamBrookline. This year’s recipients are Colm McCarthy and James Tobin. Colm is a sophomore at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at The Country Club. James is a junior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course
EDWARD T. FRACKIEWICZ SCHOLARSHIP
The Edward T. Frackiewicz Scholarship was created in 2020 by his friends and family to honor his legacy. Ed had a lifelong passion for the game of golf. He loved playing with his son Jake (a Ouimet Alumnus) and his friends. He also enjoyed teaching and encouraging new golfers to learn and love the game. He travelled the world in search of beautiful courses and new golf buddies. Ed kept track of every course he ever played. At final count, that number was 1,450. A Lifetime Member of The Fund, Ed’s warm personality is missed at the many outings and events he attended. The Frackiewicz Scholarship is for a Scholar who worked at Oak Hill Country Club or is attending Wake Forest University. This year’s recipient is Patrick Ginnity, a freshman at Fordham University majoring in Communication and Journalism who performed his golf service at Oak Hill Country Club
The Frost Family Scholarship was established by Mark and Lynn Frost. Mr. Frost is the author of “The Greatest Game Ever Played” and also wrote the screenplay for and co-produced the movie that was released by Disney Studios in 2005. The Frost Family Scholarship preference is for a Ouimet Scholar who is studying art, dance, theatre, film, or related studies. The Mike & Linda Furyk Scholarship was established in 2018 at the request of Jim Furyk from the proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2018 Annual Banquet, which honored Jim. Jim describes his parents, Mike and Linda, as his biggest supporters. Mike, who worked at Westchester Country Club and Uniontown Country Club in Western Pennsylvania before becoming a salesman for Tommy Armour Golf for 18 years, has been Jim’s sole swing coach and teacher throughout his life. Linda also had an enormous impact on Jim’s career, as she spent time during Jim’s late teenage years working to help finance his amateur golf career. Mike and Linda Furyk have been with their son many times at big events, including being with him on Father’s Day in 2003 when Jim won the U.S. Open Championship at Olympia Fields in Chicago. This year’s recipient is Dylan Orlando, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Bass Rocks Golf Club
GILBERT K. & LILLIAN R. GAILIUS SCHOLARSHIP
The Gilbert K. & Lilian R. Gailius Scholarship was established in 2020 by past Ouimet Fund President Greg Gailius to honor his parents, who grew up in Dorchester and South Boston, respectively, and eventually discovered and learned to love the game of golf. The scholarship’s preference is to be awarded to a Scholar from a Boston high school and/or a Scholar attending Bentley University, Boston College, or Suffolk University and/ or a Scholar who did their golf service at Nashawtuc Country Club. Inner-City Award
This scholarship was created in 2008 by Ouimet Director John F. Gallagher III in honor of his late father, Dr. John F. Gallagher, Jr., who died in 1982, and uncle, Frank R. Spellman, who died in 2017. Mr. Spellman was an investment adviser. The scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Dorchester or other inner-city areas of Boston. This year’s recipient is Tyler McNair, a senior at Stonehill College majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park
RICHARD J. GANONG SCHOLARSHIP
Established in honor of a Ouimet Alumnus
This scholarship honors the late Mr. Ganong, who grew up as a caddie at Brae Burn Country Club. Mr. Ganong went on to attend Boston College with the help of a Ouimet Scholarship. He also played college golf at BC. Mr. Ganong spent his entire working career in the investment business, retiring as a Director from Schroder Wertheim in 2002. He was a member of Wellesley Country Club and former member of Charles River Country Club. He was a Ouimet Fund Board Member from 1991-2009 and served as Alumni Chair from 1991-2002. He was a golf rules official and served on the Mass Golf Executive Committee. He died in 2014. The award was established by his family. The Richard J. Ganong Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars from Brae Burn or Wellesley Country Clubs. This year’s recipient is Brendan MacLeod, a junior at Villanova University majoring in Accounting who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

The Joe Gill Scholarship was established in 2013 in honor of Joseph Gill, Sr. The scholarship is funded, in part, by proceeds of the annual Igoe Memorial Golf Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a New England PGA Pro-Am that has benefitted the Ouimet Fund for over 45 years. The tournament is co-chaired by Ouimet Alums Ed Vahey and Dave Coughlin. Mr. Gill, who died in 2018, was a longtime Wellesley member and avid golfer who had been an enthusiastic supporter of
the Ouimet Fund through the Igoe Memorial Tournament.
Joe was also an avid supporter of the caddie program at Wellesley. He was a successful automobile dealer in Natick, MA, and took pride in his roots, having grown up in a housing project in Charlestown. The Joe Gill Scholarship is for an inner-city Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Daniel Earley, a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Criminal Justice who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course
JOHN F. GILLIS, SR. SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created by the family of the late John F. Gillis, Sr., who died in 2007. Mr. Gillis was a 40year employee of General Electric in Lynn and Everett who was known for his incredible devotion to family. He was married to Helen Gillis and was great-grandfather to 11 children. He lived in West Lynn for many years and then Mashpee, where he was very active in Christ the King Church. The John F. Gillis, Sr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who attends Northeastern University. This year’s recipient is Gerald Mahoney, a senior at Northeastern University majoring in International Business and International Affairs who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club
SIDNEY GOLDSTEIN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship honors the late founder of CVS/ Caremark and was instituted in 1996. The award was funded by proceeds of the Sidney Goldstein Memorial Tournament. The Sidney Goldstein Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is studying business, pharmacy, or a healthcare related field. This year’s recipient is Sabine Garrahan, a senior at Syracuse University majoring in Biology who performed her golf service at Winchester Country Club
DENNETT GOODRICH SCHOLARSHIP
The Dennett Goodrich Scholarship was created by a large group of his friends in 2015 in honor of Denny, who was a member of the Ouimet Board of Directors for 37 years and a passionate champion for the Ouimet Fund in countless ways. Denny passed away in late 2020 and will forever be missed, having carried the Ouimet banner for so many years while shining in his volunteer efforts to help the Ouimet Scholars. His unwavering commitment to the mission and his selfless dedication to others made him truly beloved. He was also an inaugural recipient of The Fund’s Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service
Award in 2000. After serving as President, Vice Chair of the Annual Banquets, Ouimet Chair at Dedham Country and Polo Club, participating in the Golf Marathon, and so much more, our Honorary Alumnus Award was named after Denny in 2009. This year’s recipient is Holden Williamson, a sophomore at Boston College majoring in HumanCentered Engineering who performed his golf service at Dedham Country & Polo Club
DANIEL A. GRADY SCHOLARSHIP
The Daniel A. Grady Scholarship was established in 2023 by the Grady Family in memory of Dan following his passing that summer. There were also many generous friends and family who contributed to The Fund with memorial donations in Dan’s name. Dan grew up in Jamaica Plain, joined the Army following high school, and after being stationed in Germany through the mid-1950s, enrolled at Northeastern University. Through his career in finance, working his way up to CFO at the William Underwood Company and Bose, and living in Westwood for most of his life, he formed many lifelong friendships. His most cherished time was with his family and friends, particularly his golf rounds at Brae Burn, New Seabury, and the Loxahatchee Club, boating down the Cape, and watching Boston sports teams with his grandchildren. This scholarship will be for a Ouimet Scholar who performed their service to golf at Brae Burn Country Club and/or is attending Northeastern University. This year’s recipient is Martin Androssenko a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Brae Burn Country Club.
GRAT TON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created by The Kittansett Club members Duncan and Pat Gratton as a commitment to Ouimet Scholars.
Mr. Gratton joined the Ouimet Fund Board of Directors in 2014, led the Club Relations Committee for several years, and currently serves as the Board President. Prior to his role as President of the Ouimet Fund, Duncan and Pat were members at Dedham Country & Polo Club, where Duncan served as Ouimet Chair, recruited by the late Ouimet Trustee Denny Goodrich. The proud Gratton Family includes son Johnny (former caddie at Brae Burn Country Club and The Country Club), his wife Olivia, and daughter Christina and her husband James Curtis. James and Christina also have a son, Jamie. The Paul Graveline Memorial Scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Graveline, who passed away in 2017. It was funded through donations from a golf tournament and dinner held in 2018, organized by his family, friends, and the dedicated staff at The Ridge Club. Faith, family, and friends were so important to Paul, and the resulting scholarship is a fitting and impactful honor. He loved golf and the young men and women who worked at The Ridge Club, and this lasting tribute will annually help a Ouimet Scholar from The Ridge Club attend college. This year’s recipient is James Murray, a sophomore at Bentley University.
BOB & JANET GRIFFIN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created in 2019 by Bob and Janet Griffin. Tragically, Bob passed away in 2021. The couple both graduated from Boston College in 1971, were married in 1973, were the parents of four beloved children and grandparents to six. Members of Tedesco Country Club for over 40 years, Janet and Bob shared a love for the game of golf and consistently participated, as Lifetime Members, in the Ouimet Scholar applicant interviews. Janet remains a Rules Officials for Mass Golf, something the pair enjoyed very much together. They considered the establishment of this scholarship as their way of giving back to the game they love. The Guyer Family Scholarship was established by Wayne and Jean Guyer in 2021. Wayne is a longtime supporter of The Fund and a Ouimet Alumnus, who grew up working at the former Middleton Golf Course. He has very fond memories of his 10+ years at MGC, and it’s where he learned to love the game –especially competitive golf. It’s also where Wayne was introduced to his future wife, Jean, who is a 3rd generation member of Salem Country Club. The Guyer Family Scholarship is intended to help a Ouimet Scholar that has graduated from Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, is attending the University of Rhode Island, or has performed his or her golf service at Salem Country Club. The John P. Hamill Scholarship was created with proceeds from the 2005 Spirit of Golf event, where Mr. Hamill was honored for his passion for golf and his dedication to charitable and community initiatives. Mr. Hamill was Chairman of Sovereign Bank and formerly was President of Fleet National Bank and President at Shawmut. He is a member of Eastward Ho! and Wellesley Country Club. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the innercity. This year’s recipient is Darby Boudreau, a senior at Providence College majoring in Elementary and Special Education who performed her golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

The Bill & Angela Healy Healthcare Scholarship was established by William L. Healy, MD and Angela C. Healy, MD in 2022. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Ouimet Scholar who intends to pursue a career in healthcare. If several students qualify, preference will be given to Ouimet Scholars from Concord CC and Eastward Ho!

The Bill Helm and Marcia Bowles Scholarship was established at the conclusion of the 2024 John Budd Flagg Day event at Tatnuck Country Club. During the event, organizers surprised Marcia by announcing that a portion of the proceeds would be used to create this new scholarship in her name and in memory of her late partner, Bill Helm. Marcia, a long-time member of Tatnuck and an Ouimet Lifetime Member, shares this honor with Bill, who was also a dedicated Ouimet Lifetime Member. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Scholar from Tatnuck Country Club. The inaugrual recipient is Aidan McGee, a senior at Union College majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at Tatnuck Country Club.
HERITAGE SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
The Heritage Scholarship was the Ouimet Fund’s first inner-city scholarship, and it has inspired 23 innercity endowed scholarships within the Ouimet Fund since its creation in 2001. Heritage winners can come from Boston, Chelsea, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford, Somerville, Springfield, and Worcester. The scholarship was funded partially by donations from Bob Anderson and Ouimet Alumnus Allen Doyle from his 2001 Champions Tour Charles Schwab Cup bonus. This year’s recipient is Thomas King,
a junior at St. Anselm College majoring in History and Secondary Education with a minor in American Studies who performed his golf service at Long Meadow Golf Club

This award is named after Ted Highberger, Sr., who died in 1987. Mr. Highberger was a metallurgist with a passion for the game of golf. The award was funded by former Ouimet Fund President Ted Highberger, Jr. (2006-2008) in 1998, and is for Ouimet Scholars who are outstanding business students. This year’s recipients are Cooper Chapman, Michael Greystone, and Andrew Park. ELLEN HINES SCHOLARSHIP
The Ellen Hines Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2007 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of Banquet honorees Barbara and Jack Nicklaus, who were longtime friends of Ellen and John Hines. Ellen died in 2005, and John died in 2014. She was a Fontbonne Academy and Regis College graduate and former St. Patrick’s of Natick grade school teacher. Both Boston natives, John and Ellen lived for many years in the Columbus, Ohio and Jupiter, Florida areas. Ellen was a fine golfer and lover of the game, family, and travel. She was a member of Woods Hole Golf Club for 35 years. The scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is studying for a career in education. This year’s recipient is Chloe Jeniski, a junior at Connecticut College majoring in Education and Government who performed her golf service at Worcester Country Club.
JACK HOBBS SCHOLARSHIP
The Jack Hobbs Scholarship was established in 2004 after the death of John W. F. Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs was a lifelong lover of golf and a member of the Long Cove Club, The Kittansett Club, Mid-Ocean Club, and Winchester Country Club. He was also very active with the United States Senior Golf Association and Chairman of their annual tournament at Kittansett. Mr. Hobbs also served on
the MGA Executive Committee with Francis Ouimet in 1931. Mr. Hobbs was Vice President in charge of Real Estate Trusts for New England Merchants Bank until his retirement in 1986. Afterward, he served as head of the Hampton Beach Improvement Company in New Hampshire. The Jack Hobbs Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from The Kittansett Club or who is a resident of Marion or a surrounding community. This year’s recipient is Philip le Gassick, a sophomore at UMass Amherst majoring in Accounting

The Holland Family Scholarship was created in 2020 to honor David F. and Linda F. Holland. It was established by their children— Jeffrey R. Holland and his wife Céline, Janet L. Holland, and Sharon Drake and her husband Michael—along with their grandchildren: Evan, Abigail, Tanner, Jeb, Grady, and Charlotte. The scholarship is intended to honor David and Linda’s passion for family, hard work, and golf (not to mention selflessly driving their son to and from caddying at all hours of the day!) The scholarship is prioritized for a Ouimet Scholar with a major in Accounting, Business, or Finance, but most importantly with a passion for golf and the strong desire to give back! Created in 1992 and named after the late golf professional at Salem and North Andover Country Clubs, this award is earmarked for a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore, Marshfield, or Cape Cod with fine academic credentials and outstanding golf service. Established in 2001, this award has been created by the membership of the Hyannisport Club and is for a Ouimet Scholar from that club. MAY JACKSON SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 2013 in honor of the late May Jackson by her family. It honors Mrs. Jackson, a longtime member at The Country Club, who won the women’s club championship there 13 times and also won the club championship at Wianno Golf Club. She was a frequent participant in WGAM tournaments and President of the Association in 1948-49. The WGAM’s May Jackson Scholarship was considered its most prestigious and has recognized outstanding women who have contributed to the growth of women’s golf. The May Jackson Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who performed his or her golf service at The Country Club. This year’s recipient is Paulina Curtin, a senior at McGill University majoring in Biodiversity and Conservation.
ERLING JACOBSEN SCHOLARSHIP
The Erling Jacobsen Scholarship was established in 2006 at the request of Peter Jacobsen from the proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s Annual Banquet, which honored Peter. Erling Jacobsen had been an excellent athlete and played college football at the University of Oregon and two years of professional football in Los Angeles. He and his wife, Barbara, raised four children, and brought them into an active, busy life centered around the game of golf. At one point, the total handicap of all six Jacobsen’s was 26. Erling loved to teach others and was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the game. After he was diagnosed with cancer in 1985, he traveled to many PGA TOUR events with his son, Peter, even playing in several pro-ams. He passed on a great love of the game and humor to his children. This year’s recipient is Benjamin Sapovits, a senior at Williams College majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Pocasset Golf Club.
KEITH-HOON SCHOLARSHIP
Inner-City Award
This scholarship was established in 2013 by John W. Keith and Shelley Hoon. Mr. Keith is the founder of The Keith Companies, Inc., of Canton, MA and has been involved in the residential development industry for more than 50 years. Over the years, John has greatly expanded his development projects. In 1993, he founded Keith Construction, Inc., which focuses on building new and renovating existing apartment communities. He and his wife, Shelley Hoon Keith, have been honored with many
community awards. They both have a deep interest in helping in the inner-city and the Keith-Hoon Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Fall River, Lawrence, or New Bedford. This year’s recipient is Mason White, a senior at Providence College majoring in Creative Writing and Computer Science who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club
GLENN KELLY SCHOLARSHIP
New in 2024
The Glenn Kelly Scholarship was established in 2024 through a fundraising effort by the generous members of Woods Hole Golf Club in honor of Glenn’s upcoming retirement in April 2025. Glenn, a native of Pembroke, MA, began his career at Pembroke Country Club. His passion for the game led him to Woods Hole Golf Club in 1985, where he served as Assistant Golf Professional before becoming Head Golf Professional the following year. A proud Ouimet Alumnus, Glenn has been a lifelong supporter of the Ouimet Fund’s mission to help young people. For decades, he has led Woods Hole’s successful caddie program, actively participated in Ouimet programming and advocacy, and guided more than 50 young men and women to Ouimet Scholarships, totaling over $400,000 in awards. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Glenn received The Fund’s 2023 Golf Professional of the Year Award. The Glenn Kelly Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has done their golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club. The inaugural recipient is Thomas Lyons III, a senior at Harvard College majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club
TED KENERSON BRAE BURN CADDIE SCHOLARSHIP
The Ted Kenerson Brae Burn Caddie Scholarship was established after his death in 2004. Mr. Kenerson was a former president (19921994) of the Ouimet Fund, a longtime member of the Scholarship Committee, and had a superb record in competitive golf. As Ouimet Fund President, he started the Ouimet Golf Marathon and worked tirelessly on the effort to put an addition on The Fund’s former building in Weston. Mr. Kenerson was a member of Brae Burn Country Club and the scholarship is for a caddie from that club. This year’s recipient is Alexander Chan, a senior at Union College majoring in Economics with a minor in Data Analytics.
KENNEDY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by Terry and Kathy Kennedy in 2012. Mr. Kennedy was President of the Ouimet Fund from 2012-2014, has been a Ouimet Director for many years, is a Lifetime Member, and also served as Centennial Chair. Terry and Kathy enjoy their membership at Wollaston, and with their children, have greatly enjoyed the game of golf and the spirit of giving back. This year’s recipient is Colby Keating, a junior at Bentley University majoring in Corporate Finance and Accounting who performed his golf service at Pinehills Golf Club.

The Scott King Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Mr. King, who died in 1999. Scott was a former Ouimet Scholar who had worked on the course superintendent crew at Concord Country Club prior to his career in banking. The Scott King Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has worked in course superintendent operations, preferably in the Boston Metro West area. This year’s recipient is Orick Kelley, a sophomore at Nichols College majoring in Sports Management who performed his golf service at Shining Rock Golf Club and Whitinsville Golf Club

Friends and family of Bill King, who died in 1999, established this scholarship through memorial donations and a Bill King Memorial Tournament held in 2000. Mr. King was a longtime Ouimet Chairman at Vesper Country Club and great supporter of caddies. The William R. King Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the Lowell area. This year’s recipient is Thomas King, a junior at St. Anselm College majoring in History and Secondary Education with a minor in American Studies who performed his golf service at Long Meadow Golf Club.
CHRISTY KITE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
The Christy Kite Family Scholarship was created in celebration of Mr. Tom Kite receiving the 2020 Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf. Tom’s wife, Christy, was married to Tom just short of 40 years before passing away after a lengthy battle with cancer in 2015. A golfer while at Arizona State University, she became a middle school math and science teacher after graduation. A couple of years later, Christy and Tom met playing on a golf course, and she soon became an integral part of Tom’s success. They traveled on Tour, first just the two of them, then with their young children. Creating somewhat of a normal family atmosphere while traveling and on the road constantly was one of Christy’s strongest assets. Christy enjoyed cooking, knitting, and spending time with good friends, but her two main loves were her family and traveling on Tour. This year’s recipient is Jillian Johnson, a freshman at Merrimack College who performed her golf service at Hatherly Country Club
KOLBE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created by Gail Kolbe in honor and memorial to her mother, Heidi Kolbe, who loved the game of golf and made this scholarship possible. Unaware of the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, Gail was taking golf lessons from the Blue Rock Golf Course Pro, Jim Campbell, whose son was a Francis Ouimet Scholar recipient. Jim mentioned this wonderful organization and the impact it makes for young golf enthusiasts. The Edward J. Krovitz, Jr. Scholarship was established in 2015 by the Krovitz Family. Ed was very passionate about both golf and access to higher education; he very much appreciated how the Ouimet Fund brought together the vast golf community. Ed was a member of the Georgetown University golf team and continued competing at the state amateur level after graduation. He also took on numerous responsibilities at his local golf club. He was very involved in the American Seniors Golf Association and competed in many events with them. He ran a successful family business for decades before passing it on to the next generation. Ed always respected the etiquette, traditions, and gentlemanly nature of the game and carried those traits through to his personal and professional life. The Edward J. Krovitz, Jr. Scholarship is awarded to a North Shore Candidate that will pursue a degree in Business/ Management Sciences. This year’s recipient is Connor Houlihan, a sophomore at Rutgers University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Ould Newbury Golf Club and Salem Country Club
NEWELL B. KURSON SCHOLARSHIP
The Newell B. Kurson Scholarship was established in 2006 by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Richard Lubin. Mr. Kurson was President of the Ouimet Fund from 1975 - 1977. During that time, The Fund opened the long-awaited Golf House building in Weston. Mr. Kurson was a long-time member of Belmont Country Club, where he served as President from 1966 - 1970. The Newell B. Kurson Scholarship is primarily limited to Ouimet Scholars from Belmont Country Club. This year’s recipient is Ryan Bauer, a sophomore at Bentley University majoring in Corporate Finance and Accounting who performed his golf service at Belmont Country Club
JAMES E. LEHMAN SCHOLARSHIP
The James E. Lehman Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2016 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of his son, Banquet honoree Tom Lehman. Mr. Lehman, who died in 2009, was an AllAmerican halfback and MIAC Conference MVP at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. He went into the Navy in Norfolk, VA after college and subsequently signed a contract to play for the Baltimore Colts in 1958. He played only a short time for Baltimore before injury ended his football career. In
later years, Mr. Lehman owned an insurance business in the Alexandria, MN, area where his sons - Tom, Jim, and Mike Lehman – grew up and played football, basketball, and golf. This year’s recipient is Mark Rice, a senior at Lake Forest College majoring in History who performed his golf service at Dedham Country & Polo Club.
LOCKWOOD SCHOLARSHIP
The Lockwood Scholarship was founded in 2019 by a large group of Mr. Lockwood’s friends to honor his generosity. The scholarship celebrates his hospitality in hosting an annual event at his LaPlaya Golf Club in Naples, Florida, as well as his unwavering support for his friends’ endeavors through philanthropy and other means. Mr. Lockwood is widely recognized for his deep love of the game and his appreciation for the staff and caddies at Tedesco Country Club, where he and his friends are proud members. He grew up in Philadelphia, the son of a Philadelphia fireman, and although he is a very successful businessman, he has never forgotten his roots. His Stephen J. Lockwood Company, LLC is a financial holding company with investments in real estate and property management, insurance and reinsurance, restaurants, golf course management, and investments in start-up companies. The Lockwood Scholarship will be for Ouimet Scholars from Tedesco Country Club. This year’s recipient is Ethan Cadorette, a junior at Boston University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Tedesco Country Club.
DOMINGO LOPEZ SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
The Domingo Lopez Scholarship was created after the 2004 Annual Banquet at the request of the honoree, Nancy Lopez, who is his daughter. Mr. Lopez taught her the game of golf when she was eight years old in her hometown of Roswell, NM as part of a therapy program for his wife, Marina, who was suffering from a lung disorder. Domingo Lopez was Nancy’s coach and teacher through her junior career. Sadly, Marina Lopez died just before Nancy won as a rookie on the LPGA Tour, but Domingo Lopez was with her for several of her early victories, which she dedicated to her family. He died in 2002 at the age of 87. This year’s recipient is Elizabeth Greeley, a freshman at UMass Lowell who performed her golf service at George Wright Golf Course.
EDDIE LOWERY AWARD
This award is for a Ouimet Scholar who is a caddie at a supporting club. Eddie Lowery became famous as Francis Ouimet’s 10-yearold caddie in the 1913 U.S. Open Championship. The image of Ouimet and Lowery walking together is one of the most famous in golf and is used as the Ouimet Fund’s logo. Mr. Lowery went on to become a fine golfer and very successful businessman in California, and he remained close to Mr. Ouimet throughout his life. Mr. Lowery died in 1984 in California. The award was established in 1998 and was funded by Mrs. Margaret Lowery. This year’s recipient is Brendan Collins, a sophomore at Roger Williams University majoring in Criminal Justice who performed his golf service at Franklin Country Club.

This award was established in the year 2000 in memory of Margaret Lowery, widow of Eddie Lowery. Mrs. Lowery died in 2000. Mrs. Lowery was a great friend and supporter of the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is Jayna Byrne, a junior at Emmanuel College majoring in Accounting with a minor in Marketing who performed her golf service at Bear Hill Golf Club.

The scholarship honors Kevin and Donna’s lifetime commitment to teaching and education in Massachusetts. The scholarship is prioritized for a Ouimet Scholar attending college with a major in Education or a Ouimet Scholar intending to pursue a career in education. This year’s recipient is Darby Boudreau, a senior at Providence College majoring in Elementary and Special Education who performed her golf service at Wellesley Country Club.

Inner-City Award
The Peter S. Lynch Scholarship was created in 2016 from a major gift from the Lynch Foundation. An Alumnus and Trustee, Mr. Lynch ’65 caddied at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton as a teen and received the Ouimet Scholarship throughout his four years at Boston College. He subsequently earned an MBA at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and then embarked on a renowned career at Fidelity. Mr. Lynch went on to become Portfolio Manager of Fidelity’s Magellan Fund for 13 years, where it became the largest and best-performing mutual fund in the world. Mr. Lynch was the principal speaker at The Fund’s Annual Banquet in 1995. He has been a major donor to Ouimet initiatives and received the Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award in 2010. The Lynch Scholarship is for inner-city Ouimet Scholars, primarily from Boston. This year’s recipients are D’Anthony Boutwell and Robert Gant II. D’Anthony is a junior at North Carolina Central University majoring in Mass Communications who performed his golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. Robert is a junior at St. Johns University
The Fred & Marion MacQuarrie Scholarship was established in 2014 by Lifetime Member Stephen MacQuarrie and his wife, Kate Martin, in memory of his parents, Fred and Marion MacQuarrie, who met when they were both working at the old United Shoe Golf Course in Beverly. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston, Lynn, Lawrence, New Bedford, Springfield, Holyoke, Fitchburg, Brockton, Worcester, Lowell, or Chelsea. This year’s recipient is Jeremiah Osei a junior at Ohio Wesleyan University majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.
BILLY MAICH AWARD
This award was established in 1998 and is named after Mr. Maich, who grew up as a caddie at Longshore Country Club in Westport, CT, and had a lifelong love of golf, caddying, and helping young people. Mr. Maich died in 2004. The award was established by his late son, Peter, who died in 2014. Peter Maich was a longtime Ouimet Director and will forever be remembered as Banquet Chair in Memoriam. The Martin Family Scholarship was established in 2014 by Thomas and June Martin. Mr. Martin, who died in 2017, served on the Board of Directors for many years. Mr. Martin’s company, Cramer, has been a longtime partner to the Ouimet Fund assisting with video production and website development projects. This scholarship was established in 2003 through the proceeds of the Emerald Isle Boston Golf Classic, which became the first Spirit of Golf event. It honors the memory of the late Mr. McCafferty, a former Ouimet Fund Director, Trustee, and, Treasurer, who was a member at Woodland Golf Club and Oyster Harbors Club. He had been a senior partner at Ernst and Young in Boston and also served with the New England Senior Golfers’ Association. The John J. McCafferty Scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars from the inner-city who are pursuing a career in business. This year’s recipients are Jack Bavis and Cameron Mannion Jack is a senior at St. Michael’s College majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at Dedham Country & Polo Club. Cameron is a senior at Stonehill College majoring in Business Management who performed his golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
ARTHUR E. McCARTHY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by Arthur E. McCarthy in 2021. Arthur grew up in Peabody, MA and spent many years caddying at Salem Country Club. The Francis Ouimet Scholarships he received in the 1950s significantly helped him pay his Harvard College tuition. Arthur joined Salem Country Club in 1967. Arthur’s father, also Arthur E. McCarthy, was an accomplished amateur golfer in Massachusetts in the 1930s and 1940s.
Mr. McDonald was a member of the original class of 13 Ouimet Scholars in 1949. He caddied at The Country Club. He went on to MIT, where he captained the golf team, and following graduation, served for two years in the Air Force. He then received an MBA from Harvard Business School. He had a very successful career in construction, including as President of Erland Construction from 1983-1996 and as Chair of Erland Construction since 1983. He also found time for golf and served as President of Charles River Country Club. Mr. McDonald had been a longtime Ouimet Fund Trustee for many years until his passing in 2022. He had also overseen the construction of the Ouimet Fund’s original offices and museum in 1975. His wife, Elaine, graduated from Emmanuel College and earned a Masters Degree at Lesley College and was a longtime Special Education teacher and administrator in Waltham. She passed away in 2016. The Bob & Elaine McDonald Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is pursuing a major in Construction Engineering, Real Estate, Business, or Education. This year’s recipient is Evan Stein, a junior at Wentworth Institute of Technology majoring in Construction Management with a concentration in Commercial Real Estate Development and a minor in Business who performed his golf service at Essex County Club.

McDonald Family Scholarship was created by Joseph McDonald in 2017. Mr. McDonald started in golf as a caddie at age 11 at Charles River Country Club, where he caddied for Francis Ouimet and went on to caddie for him weekly for the next seven years. Mr. McDonald sadly passed away in 2024. He often spoke with pride about the Ouimet scholarship recommendation letter he received from Mr. Ouimet himself. This recommendation led to a full Ouimet Scholarship to Ohio University in 1967. Mr. McDonald had a distinguished
The James McDonough Scholarship was established in 2012 in memory of James by his parents, Peggy and Jim McDonough. James died in February of 2011 in an accident. He was a member of Wollaston Golf Club, a graduate of St. Sebastian’s School, and a senior at Rollins College, where he played on the golf team. He was a very promising golfer and known as a friend and mentor to many other players. The James McDonough Scholarship was partially funded by proceeds of the James McDonough Fourball Tournament at Wollaston Golf Club. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Wollaston Golf Club who demonstrates a commitment to and love for the game of golf or who exhibits kindness, sensitivity, good cheer, and an enduring passion for the game. This year’s recipient is Jack McCloskey, a senior at High Point University majoring in Business Administration who performed his golf service at Wollaston Golf Club
HOLLY McGRATH SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
Holly McGrath, with The Highland Partners Charitable Fund, established this scholarship in 2013 to honor the 100th anniversary of Francis Ouimet’s U.S. Open victory. Ms. McGrath is an active Ouimet Lifetime Member, as well as a Ouimet Board Member. Ms. McGrath is a member of Mr. Ouimet’s home course, Woodland Golf Club, and is deeply committed to partnering with organizations which enrich the lives of children and families in the local community. The Holly McGrath Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has completed his or her golf service at Woodland Golf Club, William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park, or George Wright Golf Course. This year’s recipient is Lukas LaHaye, a sophomore at Bryant University majoring in Finance and in Leadership and Innovation Management with a minor in Psychology who performed his golf service at Woodland Golf Club.
This scholarship was created in 2010 in honor of the late Bob and late Joanne McIntosh, lifelong advocates for public golf. Bob was introduced to the game as a Depression-era caddie on Massachusetts’ South Shore, and his late wife, Joanne, played the game for decades with her husband, children, and friends. Bob’s introduction to the game as a caddie blossomed into a passion for golf—particularly public golf—and he cherished the game as an outlet for competition, camaraderie, and etiquette. Their son, David, is a Ouimet Alumnus. This scholarship was established by their daughter, Lynne, and her husband, Paul Vanderslice, for a Ouimet Scholar who performed their service at a public golf course. This year’s recipient is Luke Sanders, a junior at Northeastern University majoring in Electrical Engineering who performed his golf service at Chatham Seaside Links

The Neil J. McNamara Scholarship was created in 2016 in memory of Neil McNamara, who died in 2016. Mr. McNamara was a graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School and Westfield State University. He was a successful sales professional in the internet security software sector and helped to grow the business of many companies, most noteworthy of which are, Checkpoint Software and Algosec, Inc. He was an avid and exceptional golfer who thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of his golfing buddies and embodied in his personality the calm, focused attention of the game. This scholarship was established by his family and is for a Ouimet Scholar from Cape Cod. This year’s recipient is Jaxon Prophett, a senior at Stonehill College majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship who performed his golf service at Pocasset Golf Club

LAURENCE OTTO MILLER SCHOLARSHIP
The Laurence Otto Miller Scholarship was established in 2019 at the request of Johnny Miller from the proceeds of the 2019 Ouimet Banquet, which honored Johnny. Laurence Otto Miller, Johnny’s late father, had a great love of golf, was a skilled player, and served as Johnny’s first teacher. He was born in Sacramento, California in 1913, the same year Francis Ouimet won his legendary U.S. Open. Mr. Miller spent his career as a Supervisor at RCA Wireless Telegraph Communications in San Francisco. The company was the leader of technology for its time, and Mr. Miller missed only five days of work there in 37 years. Golf was a great passion for him, and he was a solid player who once won the Sportsman Flight of the prestigious San Francisco City Tournament. Larry and his wife, Ida Miller, raised four children together – Ronnie, Sharon, Joanie, and Johnny – and Mr. Miller cherished the opportunities to spend time with his children and later his grandchildren. This year’s recipient is Henry Stonehouse, a junior at Salem State University majoring in Sport and Movement Science who performed his golf service at Belmont Country Club

Established in 2008, the John D. Mineck Caddie Scholarship was created in memory of the late founder of the Boston Golf Club through proceeds from the John D. Mineck Foundation Invitational. Each year’s recipient is announced at the annual John D. Mineck Foundation Invitational at Boston Golf Club. The John D. Mineck Caddie Scholarship is restricted to caddies and outside operations staff from Boston Golf Club. This year’s recipient is John Daly, a senior at The College of the Holy Cross majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Boston Golf Club
MIX-JORDAN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 2013 by Bob Jordan, who at the time was the surviving partner of Bob Mix, who passed away in 2011. Mr. Mix was a Ouimet Director for many years, former Ouimet Bag Tag Chairman, the longtime Oyster Harbors Club Ouimet Chair, and the 2002 recipient of the Ouimet Chair of the Year Award. He had a deep commitment to the Ouimet Fund and its Scholars and greatly enjoyed serving as an interviewer. He had been a golf professional in New York and Florida. Mr. Jordan, who died in 2014, also worked as a golf professional
in Vermont, New York, and Florida. This year’s recipient is Ellin Prophett, a junior at Stonehill College majoring in International Business who performed her golf service at Pocasset Golf Club

This scholarship was created by Jim and Mary Moriarty in 2021. Jim is a Ouimet Alumnus who started his caddying days at Mount Pleasant Golf Club and then became the caddie manager at Vesper Country Club. The Ouimet Scholarship that Jim received as a freshman at UMass Amherst made a huge difference in his life. He recognizes the importance of giving back and has served in many roles on the Ouimet Board including as a Scholarship Chairperson, Vice President, and President of the Ouimet Board. This Scholarship will be given to a young man or woman who intends to pursue a degree at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. This year’s recipient is Matthew Fahey, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Economics with a minor in Business who performed his golf service at Walpole Country Club.

This award was established in 1978 and is funded by contributions of The Bay State Seniors Golf Association. It is intended for a Scholar studying golf course agronomy or a Scholar who has worked in course superintendent operations. This year’s recipient is Liam Power, a senior at UMass Stockbridge majoring in Turfgrass Science and Management who performed his golf service at Pocasset Golf Club.

The Diane Munns Scholarship was established in 2018 by Lesley Osborn and Ouimet Lifetime Member Dave Osborn in memory of Lesley’s mom, Diane Munns. Diane exemplified a strong work ethic in both physical and intellectual pursuits, fostering self-reliance and a good sense of humor in her three daughters. The Diane Munns Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston Golf Club. This year’s recipient is Trevor Connolly, a senior at Quinnipiac University majoring in International Business.

Established by a Ouimet Alumnus This scholarship was created in memory of Frank and Helen Murphy to memorialize their love of golf, their 40year membership at Bellevue Golf Club, and their belief in the importance of higher education. Established in 2015 by their sons, Kenneth Murphy, MD, Michael Murphy, and Richard Murphy, PhD (a Ouimet Scholarship Alumnus), the Frank and Helen Murphy Family Scholarship funds a Ouimet Scholar from Bellevue Golf Club or Mt. This scholarship was established in 1998 by the New England Chapter of the National Football League Alumni and is for a Ouimet Scholar who overcomes unique challenges and has been exemplary in helping in the home, the community, at school, at the golf course, or on a sports team. The William G. O’Brien Scholarship was created in 2013 by his widow, Gloria, through an outright gift and bequest arrangement. Mrs. O’Brien passed away in 2017. Bill served in the U.S. Marines for 24 years and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During the 1950s, Bill was an ROTC instructor at the University of Notre Dame. Following his retirement from the Marines in 1964, he served in the banking profession until his death in 1981 at age 61. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid and accomplished golfer, winning the club championship at Concord Country Club eight times from 1964-72. This scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who has performed their service at that club or another Concord area golf course. This scholarship was established in 2021 by Ann and Kevin O’Connor in appreciation of the friendships they have established as longtime members of Marshfield Country Club and for the employment opportunities given to several members of their family by the membership. The O’Connors are grateful to the Ouimet Fund for the financial support and recognition of their sons, Patrick and Brendan, who are past Scholars of The Fund. As a way of paying it forward, the O’Connors hope to award additional assistance to students employed at Marshfield Country Club in recognition of academic achievement, service excellence, and financial need. This scholarship was established in 1999 and is named after Michael Ohanian, a two-time Oakley Country Club President who won the Massachusetts Amateur Championship in 1968. Mr. Ohanian died in 1998. The Ohanian Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Oakley or a nearby club, or a Ouimet Scholar who shows great talent in and love of golf. The John E. & Carmen B. O’Kane Memorial Scholarship was established in 2020 by their two oldest sons, John and Stephen, both Ouimet Alumni and longtime supporters of The Fund. The honorees loved and respected the Ouimet Fund—not only because their sons did, and because they valued education as parents, but also because, through their close family friend, the late Gene Doherty of Charles River Country Club, they came to know and appreciate Charles Fox and other former Ouimet officers. This scholarship is unrestricted, but with a preference that it be directed to Scholars from The Weston Golf Club in years when that is feasible. This year’s recipient is Sebastian Connelly, a junior at Boston College
majoring in Finance with minors in Computer Science and Managing for Social Impact who performed his golf service at The Weston Golf Club
ROBERT F. O’MEARA SCHOLARSHIP
The Robert F. O’Meara Scholarship was funded by proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s 2012 Annual Banquet to honor the late father of the Banquet’s award recipient, Mark O’Meara. Bob O’Meara was a furniture executive who developed an early admiration for golf as a caddie on Long Island. During his high school and college years, Bob earned money to fund his education and later used the lessons he learned as a caddie to teach his children the fundamentals of life. His passion for the game continued throughout his adult life and many of his lifelong friendships were forged on the golf course. One of his greatest experiences in golf was the opportunity to play on several occasions with Mark in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as his amateur partner. Perhaps their most endearing memories and greatest joys came when they made the team cut in 1990, and Mark went on to win the individual title. At the time, it was the third of his five career wins at Pebble Beach – a truly special father/ son moment. Bob passed away in 2010, leaving behind a true legacy and love for the game of golf. This year’s recipient is Kyle Magner, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management and Marketing who performed his golf service at The Country Club

The John & Marilyn O’Neil Scholarship was established in 2023 by Jack and Carol O’Neil in honor of Jack’s parents. Having enjoyed the game of golf together for many years, John passed away in 2011, and Marilyn remains an avid golfer, with the energy of an athlete 20 years her junior. John and Marilyn enjoyed their time as members of Bellevue Golf Club. Jack and Carol are active members of Framingham Country Club and Cape Cod National Golf Club. This annual award will be for a Ouimet Scholar from Bellevue Golf Club, Framingham Country Club, or Cape Cod National Golf Club, with consideration given to students of color or first-generation college students. This year’s recipient is Alexandra Lazar, a senior at Quinnipiac University majoring in Health Sciences working towards a Doctorate of Physical Therapy who performed her golf service at Framingham Country Club.
KEVIN ONSTOTT SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2008, this scholarship was created by Ouimet Director Joseph Onstott in honor of his late son. The Onstott Scholarship is in memory of Kevin Onstott, who died at the age of 27 in an accident on December 15, 2004 at Northridge Country Club in Raleigh, North Carolina where he was Assistant Superintendent. Proceeds of the annual Onstott Invitational benefit the scholarship. The Onstott Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar attending Methodist University, NC State, or for another worthy Scholar. This scholarship was created in 2010 through proceeds of the Onstott Invitational Tournament at Brae Burn Country Club and other special donations. It is named after David Page. Mr. Page was a devoted father of three children, loving husband, and an avid golfer. He was an active member of Bald Peak Colony Club in Melvin Village, NH, Calusa Pines in Naples, FL, and Brae Burn Country Club. Always a competitor and a fighter, David battled kidney cancer for over five years. He would be delighted to think that
one day there would be a Ouimet Scholarship in his name. This year’s recipient is Joshua Polumbo, a junior at St. Lawrence University majoring in Business and Finance who performed his golf service at Taconic Golf Club.
DEACON PALMER SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 1998 and is named after the late father of Arnold Palmer. The Deacon Palmer Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who intends to pursue a career in golf. Deacon Palmer spent his career as a Course Superintendent and Golf Professional at Latrobe Country Club in Western Pennsylvania. Initial funding of the scholarship came through proceeds of the Ouimet Fund’s “Evening with Arnold Palmer” Banquet in 1997, and another $100,000 was added to the endowment through proceeds of the 1999 “Boston Pops/Salute to the Ryder Cup and Arnold Palmer.” This year’s recipient is Kyle Magner, a senior at Coastal Carolina University majoring in Professional Golf Management and Marketing who performed his golf service at The Country Club.

The Pappas Award, established in 2002, honors the late Mr. Pappas, a longtime member of Belmont Country Club and an executive with C. Pappas & Company, a liquor business. Mr. Pappas was an investment executive, President of the Pappas Foundation, and actively contributed to several charitable organizations. The Pappas Award is for a Ouimet Scholar from Belmont or Oakley Country Clubs. The Pappas Award was established by his family in memory of Mr. Pappas, who died in 2000. The Dave & Jane Parker Scholarship was established in 2010 at the 44th Igoe Memorial Tournament at Wellesley Country Club. The Igoe is a New England PGA Pro-Am and the proceeds, along with other special gifts, benefitted the Dave & Jane Parker Scholarship. The event is co-chaired by Ouimet Alums Ed Vahey and Dave Coughlin. Jane Parker and her late husband, Dave, have been involved as members at Wellesley for over 50 years. During those years, each devoted countless hours to the club, the MGA, the WGAM, and in support of the Ouimet Fund. They always showed a deep affinity for golf and golfers. Mr. Parker served as Club Secretary for many years and chaired or co-chaired the Igoe Memorial Tournament for 33 years. Mrs. Parker was also President of the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts in 1988. This year’s recipient is Kevin Aceves, a sophomore at Quinsigamond Community College majoring in Criminology who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club

This scholarship was created through the largest gift in The Fund’s history from the Harold Whitworth Pierce Charitable Trust in 2017. The late Mr. Pierce was a renowned figure in golf and investment. He had been President of The Country Club, The Massachusetts Golf Association, and the United States Golf Association. He was very friendly with Francis Ouimet and served with him on the USGA Executive Committee.

He also qualified for 17 USGA events, including the first U.S. Junior Amateur, and was low amateur in the 1984 U.S. Senior Open. He was a member at Wollaston Golf Club and Scituate Country Club, winning the club championship at each many times. He was an owner of several courses and organized many popular tournaments. Mr. Pitts was beloved in the golf community and was regarded by many as a role model and mentor. The Pitts Family was recognized in 2020 with the Honorary Alumnus Award for their contributions to golf and the Ouimet Fund. The Fordie H. Pitts, Jr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who performed their golf service at Wollaston or a club on the South Shore or Cape Cod. This scholarship was created by proceeds of the 2008 Ouimet Banquet honoring Gary Player along with a substantial additional gift from Mr. Player toward this scholarship, which honors his late parents. Muriel Player died of cancer when Gary was eight, and Harry Player spent most of his career in South African gold mines 12,000 feet underground. This year’s recipient is Mason White, a senior at Providence College majoring in Creative Writing and Computer Science who performed his golf service at Winchester Country Club

The Fordie H. Pitts, Jr. Scholarship was created by his widow, Mary Lou Pitts, in 2011. Mr. Pitts, who died in 2009, was one of the most prolific amateur golfers in Massachusetts history. He competed in MGA events for over 50 years, winning four Father & Son championships, six Father & Daughter titles, two Senior Amateurs, and
The Wendy Price Scholarship was created from proceeds of the 2017 Ouimet Annual Banquet at the request of her son, Banquet honoree Nick Price. Mrs. Price, who died in 2015, was born in Wales and went to Nursing School in London in 1939 when the Nazi blitz occurred. She eventually became a theatre assistant and moved to India where she met Nick’s dad, who was in the British Army, in 1944. They moved to Durban, South Africa and then to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Mr. Price died in 1965, and the family moved to London in 1971. Nick credits his mom for doing so much for the family in difficult times. This scholarship is for a female Scholar. This year’s recipient is Leilani Brown, a senior at Covenant College majoring in Business with a concentration in Marketing and minors in Sports Management and Psychology who performed her golf service at Bass Rocks Golf Club
The Mildred Gardinor Prunaret Award was established in 2001 and honors one of the most important figures in Massachusetts women’s golf history. It works in conjunction with The Fund’s Carolyn N. Boday, Adele Foley, Ellen Hines, Margaret Lowery, Martin Family, Wendy Price, Priscilla Ramsey, Carolyn Savage, Scannell Family, and WGAM/Dolly Sullivan Scholarships to demonstrate The Fund’s deep commitment to encouraging young women as Ouimet Scholars. Mrs. Prunaret was a member of Brae Burn Country Club. She qualified for and competed in several USGA Women’s Amateur Championships, won the 1953 U.S. Senior Women’s Championship, and was later President of that association. Mrs. Prunaret was WGAM President and was Chairman of the USGA’s Women’s Committee from 1959-1963. Among her other accomplishments, she helped establish the Women’s International Team Competitions in 1964 and captained the victorious U.S. team in 1970. She also was Captain of the winning Curtis Cup Team in 1960. Mrs. Prunaret contributed the permanent trophy for the USGA’s Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in 1987. She died in 1998. This year’s recipients are Aine Corrigan and Ellin Prophett. Aine is a sophomore at Fairfield University majoring in Accounting who performed her golf service at Walpole Country Club Ellin is a junior at Stonehill College majoring in International Business who performed her golf service at Pocasset Golf Club

The John S. Quinn Family Scholarship was created in 2021 by Lifetime Member John Quinn. A regular at Ouimet Fund events and outings, John has been a generous advocate for Ouimet Scholars for many years. He is a longtime member of Oakley Country Club, and he and his family also enjoy time in Florida and his native state of Maine. John is a proud and active member of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association and Maine Seniors’ Golf Association. The Priscilla D. Ramsey Scholarship was established in 2005 through gifts of the Marie G. Dennett Foundation, with which Mrs. Ramsey was involved for many years. The late Mrs. Ramsey had been a member of the Essex County Club and was a strong player who won the Essex Club Championship, competed in many WGAM events, was a runner-up in the WGAM Championship, and also played on the Tri-State team. Mrs. Ramsey, who lived in Greenwich, CT, in later years, supported numerous Ouimet Fund endeavors. The Ramsey Scholarship has been established to help Ouimet Scholars in need. This year’s recipients are Anna Larson and Caroline Wieland Anna is a junior at Sacred Heart University majoring in Health Sciences with a concentration in Dietician and Nutrition and a minor in Psychology who performed her golf service at Marshfield Country Club. Caroline is a sophomore at Bucknell University majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Philosophy who performed her golf service at Concord Country Club

The Reilly Family Scholarship was established at Harvard University and is earmarked for a Ouimet Scholar attending Harvard University. It was established by former Ouimet Fund President Richard M. Reilly, a longtime member of the Ouimet Fund Development Committee. Mr. Reilly is a 1959 graduate of Harvard and Harvard Law School in 1962. Two of Mr. Reilly’s four children – Chad (1989) and Beth (1991) – are also Harvard graduates.

The John R. Reilly Scholarship was created in 2011 by then Ouimet Fund President Richard M. Reilly and his family, in honor of his father. John Reilly, known throughout his life as “Jack,” was born in Boston in 1899. While in his senior year at Jamaica Plain High School, he was hired to become an office boy for William Filene. In his early twenties, he became an employee of the leading wool merchant company in Boston and, in 1928, started his own firm, Reilly Wool Co., which he ran until 1976. During this period, among other things, he was President of the Boston Wool Trade Association and an occasional guest lecturer at Harvard Business School on managing risk while doing business in overseas markets. He was a longtime member of Hatherly and Brae Burn Country Clubs until his death in 1984. He was a staunch advocate of junior golf at both clubs, particularly at Brae Burn, where he organized and ran the program well into his 70s. Although not receiving any formal education past high school, Mr. Reilly was an avid reader and lifelong student, encouraging his children and grandchildren to do the same. In this spirit, his family has created this scholarship, with preference given, where possible, to students who are the first in their family to attend college. This year’s recipients are Jaelyn DeBoise and Paul Sheehan, Jr. Jaelyn is a junior at Stonehill College majoring in Marketing who performed her golf service at Springfield Country Club Paul is a sophomore at Merrimack College majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Dedham Country & Polo Club

CHRISTOPHER “BOO” RICH SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 1999 and is named after a young man who deeply loved golf and showed great promise in the sport before he died at age 12 in 1997. The Christopher Rich Foundation funds it. The Christopher Rich Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore area. This year’s recipient is Joshua Berube, a junior at Virginia Tech majoring in Aerospace Engineering who performed his golf service at Kernwood Country Club.
The Riordan Family Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor Tom Riordan, a Ouimet Alumnus and Board Member. Tom was recognized at the 2019 Ouimet Banquet with the Richard F. Connolly, Jr. Distinguished Service Award for his significant contributions to The Fund. Mr. Riordan was a Board Member for 18 years, serving on the Banquet Committee the entire time. He sold a great number of sponsorships and tables, facilitated the creation of two endowed scholarships, donated or secured tremendous pro bono items, and more. When news that he was being honored at the 2019 Banquet was announced, many additional sponsorships, tables, and hundreds of extra tickets were sold to friends, family, and colleagues who wanted to support Mr. Riordan. In appreciation for all he did, a permanently endowed scholarship was created in Mr. Riordan’s honor from the additional proceeds of that 2019 Banquet, and The Riordan Family Scholarship continued to grow through the extensive contributions of his many friends and family. Sadly, Mr. Riordan passed away later in 2019, but he was immensely proud of this scholarship and the legacy he had left behind within the Ouimet Fund. The Riordan Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Sacconnesset Golf Club. This scholarship was established in 2003 through gifts from the late Bud and Pat Roche and was further supported in 2004 by proceeds from the Spirit of Golf event at Wellesley Country Club, where the Roche family was honored for their extensive charitable and community contributions. The Roche Family Scholarship is for an inner-city Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Kevin Pumphret, a senior at Quinnipiac University majoring in Graphic and Interactive Design who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.
This scholarship was created by Christopher and Elizabeth Rumul in 2020. Chris is a Ouimet Alumnus who grew up as a caddie and caddie manager at the Wianno Club in Osterville and has been an ardent supporter of the Ouimet Fund ever since. Chris has seen firsthand the benefit of this scholarship and the opportunities it has provided, and their family is committed to giving back. They are members of Old Sandwich Golf Club, the Ridge Club, and Dedham Country & Polo Club and, in 2017, became two of the youngest Ouimet Fund Lifetime Members. Chris has been an active Board Member for the Ouimet Fund since 2016. This year’s recipient is Thomas O’Grady, a junior at University of Miami majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at Bear Hill Golf Club
CAROLYN S. SAVAGE SCHOLARSHIP
The Carolyn S. Savage Scholarship was created in 2015. Mrs. Savage passed away in 2022 and was a Ouimet Lifetime Member and a regular Ouimet Scholarship applicant interviewer. She had a great love of golf and was deeply involved in charitable support. She and her husband, Henry, served as the Ouimet Chairs at the Wianno Club for many years and were honored with the Ouimet Chair of the Year Award in 2001. This scholarship is for Ouimet Scholars who are females from the Greater Boston or Cape Cod areas. Mrs. Savage was one of the first women in Boston to establish her own public relations agency, a milestone she achieved after being denied several positions simply because she was a woman. Mrs. Savage was deeply committed to helping and encouraging young women. In 2020, friends of the late Katharine Bullock of the Wianno Club made an additional contribution to this scholarship in a special memorial fundraising effort. This year’s recipient is Hannah Irving, a sophomore at Pennsylvania State University majoring in Anthropology and International Relations who performed her golf service at Sacconnesset Golf Club

F. HENRY SAVAGE, JR. SCHOLARSHIP
The F. Henry Savage, Jr. Scholarship was created in 2006 by Mr. Savage’s widow, Carolyn Savage. Henry Savage was a Ouimet Lifetime Member who served for many years on the Par Club/OS Executive Committee. He and Mrs. Savage also served as Ouimet Chairs at Wianno Club for many years, where they recruited many Lifetime Members. They were honored as Ouimet Chairs of the Year in 2001. Mr. Savage was a highly respected interior decorator, and one of his final projects was designing the Ouimet Room at the William F. Connell Golf House in 2003. He died in 2004. The F. Henry Savage, Jr. Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the Wianno Club. This year’s recipient is Kyle Cogswell a freshman at Purdue University majoring in Business who performed his golf service at Wianno Club

The Scannell Family Scholarship was established by Patrick and Ellen Scannell in 2014. The Scannell Family Scholarship is for an inner-city female Ouimet Scholar. This year’s recipient is Abigail Ulrich, a senior at UMass Dartmouth majoring in Nursing who performed her golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park
JOHN & LILLIAN SIMOURIAN SCHOLARSHIP
The John & Lillian Simourian Scholarship was established in 2017 by John and Candace Simourian to honor John’s grandfather and grandmother, who were longtime members of Woodland Golf Club, loved the game of golf, and walking with a caddie. They imparted their love of the greatest game to their children and grandchildren (some of whom became club and amateur champions). The John & Lillian Simourian Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar who is a student athlete and who has performed their service to golf at Woodland Golf Club, Woods Hole Golf Club, or a public golf course in the Boston area. The recipient must also maintain a fine academic record while participating in athletics at a varsity level. This year’s recipient is Gerald Mahoney, a senior at Northeastern University majoring in International Business and International Affairs who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club
CAROL & JACK SIMPSON SCHOLARSHIP New

The Carol & Jack Simpson Scholarship was established in 2024 with proceeds from the Annual Banquet. Ouimet Award winner Juli Inkster dedicated the scholarship to her parents, Carol and Jack Simpson, in honor of their unwavering love and support— especially in her pursuit of golf, a sport neither of them played. Jack was a caddie growing up on a golf course, though Juli didn’t pick up a club until the age of 15 while working at Pasatiempo Golf Club. As Juli’s career flourished, her parents made tremendous sacrifices, driving her to tournaments and even caddying for her in the California State Amateur and as an amateur in the Bing Crosby, all while she was an All-American at San Jose State. The 2024 Banquet was an unforgettable evening, where Juli shared stories of her journey—from learning the game to her global success—and her commitment to giving back to the sport that has meant so much to her and her family. The inaugural recipient is Anna Larson, a junior at Sacred Heart University majoring in Health Sciences with a concentration in Dietitian and Nutrition and a minor in Psychology who performed her golf service at Marshfield Country Club

RICHARD A. SPILLANE, SR. SCHOLARSHIP
Established by Ouimet Alumni
This scholarship was established in 2005 by members of the Spillane family. Mr. Spillane spent his career working with the MBTA and also held a second job to help put his four children through school. He had a lifelong love of golf that started when he caddied at Dedham Country and Polo Club during the Depression. Mr. Spillane died in 2001. The Spillane Scholarship was established to help Ouimet Scholars of great financial need. This year’s recipient is Austin Ryan, a junior at Fordham University majoring in Applied Mathematics who performed his golf service at Marshfield Country Club
STANSKY SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship was established in 1999. Barbara and John Stansky lived in Worcester, MA, and raised five sons, including three Ouimet Scholars. Mr. Stansky was a serviceman with Commonwealth Gas, and Mrs. Stansky was a homemaker. The Stansky Scholarship was created in their honor and is for Ouimet Scholars from Worcester Country Club. This year’s recipients are Quinn Cahill and Pericles Flagg Quinn is a sophomore at Northeastern University majoring in Computer Science and Economics who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club Pericles is a freshman at Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in Computer Science/ Engineering/ Cyber Security who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.
TOM STEMBERG SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2017, the Tom Stemberg Scholarship was created in memory of the late founder of Staples through a memorial golf event held at The Kittansett Club. Mr. Stemberg was one of the great leaders of American business, a passionate golfer, and a dedicated member of The Kittansett Club. He was deeply philanthropic and held a profound love for Harvard, Harvard Athletics, and, of course, his family. The Stemberg Scholarship will help a qualified Ouimet Scholar attend college who is a student at Harvard or Yale, or has worked at The Kittansett Club. This year’s recipient is Thomas Lyons III, a senior at Harvard College majoring in Economics who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club.
DICK STIMETS SCHOLARSHIP
The Dick Stimets Scholarship was created by the membership of the Oyster Harbors Club in 2003 in honor of Mr. Stimets, who died in 2002. He won over 20 club championships at that club. Mr. Stimets was a Ouimet Director from 1988 until his death and was President from 1994-96. His impressive golf record included club championships in Rhode Island, Ohio, Texas, and New Jersey, several Bermuda Invitational titles, victories in the Seagulls and Cape Cod Amateur Championships, and the 1993 Massachusetts Mid-Amateur title at the age of 62. Mr. Stimets started in golf as a teenager at the old
Oyster Harbors Caddie Camp. Mr. Stimets credited much of his love of golf and inspiration to a relationship he had with Francis Ouimet that began when he caddied for him at Oyster Harbors. This year’s recipient is Tyler Luzzo, a senior at Providence College majoring in Finance and Marketing who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club.

This scholarship was created in Richard “Rick” Stimets, Jr.’s memory in 2013 by many of his friends after his sudden death earlier in the year. Rick was a Ouimet Lifetime Member, longtime Ouimet Chair at Oyster Harbors, and son of the late Dick Stimets, who was Ouimet President from 1994-1996. Rick was a tremendous Ouimet supporter in charge of the fundraising campaign for the Golf Marathon at Oyster Harbors during a five-year stretch when they were the leading Marathon club. He was known for his enthusiasm, and great love of the game, his family, friends, and the number five. The Rick Stimets Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar at Oyster Harbors. This year’s recipient is Jack Conway, a senior at University of Maine - Orono majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at Oyster Harbors Club
THOMAS W. STRANGE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was funded by proceeds of the 2000 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet honoring Curtis Strange and is named after Curtis’s father, who died in 1969 at age 38. Thomas W. Strange was the golf professional at Bow Creek Country Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was a superb player who qualified for the U.S. Open six times and has been inducted into several regional halls of fame. This year’s recipient is Liam Gill III, a senior at Seattle University majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Weston Golf Club.

This scholarship was established in 2006 by a group of Worcester Country Club members and renamed in 2011 in memory of Harrison G. Taylor, Jr. Mr. Taylor, an original Ouimet Lifetime Member, was a 55-year member of Worcester Country Club, where he served as President and was honored as a life member. A low handicapper, he shot his age numerous times during his 80s. He spent 30 years as a course rater for the MGA and was on the MGA Executive Committee for nine years. He was also a member of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association, the Hickory Shafts, and a frequent participant in Ouimet events. This year’s recipients are Quinn Cahill and Zachary Marchese. Quinn is a sophomore at Northeastern University majoring in Computer Science and Economics who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club Zachary is a senior at Bowdoin College majoring in Economics with a minor in Mathematics who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.

STAN THIRSK SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was created by the proceeds of the 2009 Annual Banquet honoring Tom Watson, who asked that an scholarship be named after Stan Thirsk, his lifelong pro and mentor. Thirsk, who passed away in 2015, was a member of both the PGA and Kansas Golf Halls of Fame. He spent 31 years as the Head Professional at the Kansas City Country Club, where Tom Watson learned the game. In 1980, the PGA of America selected Mr. Thirsk as Golf Professional of the Year. He started teaching Tom Watson when Watson was just 11 years old and played frequent weekend matches with Tom and his father Ray Watson, a former U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist, and Bob Willits, another fine player. Mr. Thirsk was a highly accomplished player. He played on the PGA TOUR for several years and competed in 18 major championships – eight USGA Open Championships and ten PGA Championships. In 1979, he was the National PGA Match Play Champion, and in 1989, he won the Wilson PGA Senior Pro Championship. His fine playing resume also includes an 8th place finish at the 1981 USGA Senior Open. This year’s recipient is Dylan Orlando, a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University majoring in Professional Golf Management who performed his golf service at Bass Rocks Golf Club

This scholarship was established in 2007. This year’s recipient is Patrick Connolly, a senior at Merrimack College majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and minors in Philosophy, Data Science and Accounting who performed his golf service at North Andover Country Club
WILLIAM VAN FAASEN SCHOLARSHIP Inner-City Award
The Reaching Back Foundation, with support from The Country Club, established this endowed scholarship in recognition of the history of the United Golfers Association and the significant contributions made to the game of golf by such greats as Lee Elder, Charlie Sifford, Jim Thorpe, Jim Dent, Renee Powell, and Ann Gregory. Created from the proceeds of the foundation’s fundraising efforts during the 2022 U.S. Open, this scholarship will be awarded annually to a Ouimet Scholar who comes from a diverse and underrepresented community working at public and private golf clubs throughout Massachusetts. This year’s
The Jerry Trupiano Scholarship was created at the 2021 Ouimet Fund Annual Banquet at the request of that year’s honoree, Jim Nantz. Jerry Trupiano was a legendary play-by-play announcer in Houston, where he called games for the Oilers, Rockets, Astros, and more. He also spent 13 seasons as the voice of the Boston Red Sox. In the true spirit of the Ouimet Scholarship and its mission of giving back, during the speaking program at the Banquet, Jim Nantz surprised Jerry, who was in the audience, with this special recognition – a way for him to thank Jerry for teaching him the art of play-by-play. Back when Jim Nantz attended the University of Houston, Jerry Trupiano hired him at a local radio station, laying the foundation for a hall of fame career. Jim never forgot how Jerry believed in him, took a chance on him, and became a dear mentor to him. This year’s recipient is Brendan Galvin, a junior at Boston University majoring in Journalism who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.

WANLESS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
The William Van Faasen Scholarship was created by proceeds of the 2015 Spirit of Golf Event along with other special gifts. A native of metro Detroit, Van Faasen has been in Greater Boston for over 30 years and has been extremely community minded. He was the first chairperson of Black and White on Green, the precursor to the City of Boston’s Summer Jobs Program, a pathway to a Ouimet Scholarship. Professionally, he served as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts’ President and CEO for over a decade. A former member of the Mass Golf’s Executive Committee, Van Faasen was a driving force behind the launch of The First Tee Program in the Commonwealth. A former Ouimet Director and accomplished player in his own right, he is a member at Essex County Club, Old Sandwich Golf Club, and Florida clubs Loxahatchee and Medalist. He served as General Chairman of the 2010 Curtis Cup played at Essex. This year’s recipients are D’Anthony Boutwell and Daniel Earley D’Anthony is a junior at North Carolina Central University majoring in Mass Communications who performed his golf service at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park Daniel is a sophomore at UMass Lowell majoring in Criminal Justice who performed his golf service at George Wright Golf Course.
GEORGE N. VANDERBILT & RAYMOND F. HAMEL, SR. SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established in 2018 to honor the memory of George Newell Vanderbilt and Raymond Francis Hamel, Sr. As young boys, both began their careers as caddies –George at Algonquin Golf Club in Webster Grove, MO, and Ray at The Country Club and Belmont Country Club. Both loved the game of golf and recognized the life lessons of industry, perseverance, and patience so necessary to being successful caddies, business executives, and fathers. George and Ray served their
The Wanless Family Scholarship was created in 2017 by Marie Louise and Brian Wanless in honor of the late John B. Kenerson, Mrs. Wanless’ father. Mr. Kenerson introduced his family to the game of golf at Wellesley Country Club. It was the beginning of a great journey in the game that included years of wonderful competition, many friendships, and happy times. Mr. Kenerson was President of Wellesley Country Club when it expanded from 9 to 18 holes, and he was instrumental in establishing the Wellesley Igoe Trust, which honored the late Jack Igoe, Wellesley Country Club pro. The Trust was established to support the Igoe family, and the Igoe Tournament has also benefited many charities, including the Ouimet Fund. The Wanless Family Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Wellesley Country Club, or a Ouimet Scholar who is active on a golf team. This year’s recipient is Sean MacLeod a freshman at Villanova University who performed his golf service at Wellesley Country Club
AMOS E. WASGATT III SCHOLARSHIP AT TATNUCK COUNTRY CLUB
The Amos E. Wasgatt III Scholarship at Tatnuck Country Club was established in 2006 by a group of Tatnuck members who are Ouimet Lifetime Members. It honors the memory of Mr. Wasgatt who died in 2005. He was a Worcester insurance executive, longtime Tatnuck member, and a Ouimet Lifetime Member. He had a great love of the game, the Ouimet Fund, and the young people who served the game. The Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Tatnuck. This year’s recipient is Aidan McGee, a senior at Union College majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

This scholarship was created in 2010 through proceeds of the Onstott Invitational Tournament at Brae Burn Country Club and other special donations. It is named after John Watt. Mr. Watt was an avid golfer for most of his adult life. He enjoyed friendly games as well as competitive play on the course. He and his wife, Polly, played the game all over the world. They were longtime members of Woods Hole Golf Club, Milton Hoosic Club, Willoughby in Stuart, FL, and played many rounds at Sea Island, GA. He was a regular contributor to the Ouimet Fund. This year’s recipient is John Dunn, a sophomore at UMass Amherst majoring in Management who performed his golf service at Woods Hole Golf Club
SETH WAUGH SCHOLARSHIP
Seth Waugh created this scholarship in 2015. He was the driving force in the creation and success of the Deutsche Bank Championship. Mr. Waugh was Deutsche Bank CEO for the Americas and the former CEO of the PGA of America. A Massachusetts native, Mr. Waugh is a graduate of Amherst College. The Seth Waugh Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Boston Golf Club, TPC of Boston, a Ouimet Scholar who played two or more sports in high school, or a Ouimet Scholar from the North Shore of Boston, especially the Ayer or Groton areas. This year’s recipient is Jarod Harrington, a senior at Gettysburg College majoring in Mathematical Economics who performed his golf service at Concord Country Club
JOHN WEBSTER SCHOLARSHIP
The John Webster Scholarship was created in 2015 by his son, Scott Webster, and his family, in honor of his late father. Mr. Webster was born in Boston and attended Boston University. He joined his father’s company, J.A. Webster, a distributor of veterinary products in New England, working his way up in the company and eventually becoming President in 1978. Mr. Webster was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Nashawtuc Country Club and the Country Club of New Bedford, in addition to the Bay Club of Mattapoisett and the John’s Island Club. He also enjoyed boating and was an active member of the New Bedford Yacht Club. He was an avid traveler and visited many continents throughout the world with his wife and family. This year’s recipient is Patrick Connerney, a junior at Clemson University majoring in Marketing who performed his golf service at Nashawtuc Country Club

The Wetzel Family Scholarship was created by Todd Wetzel in 2015. Mr. Wetzel is a Ouimet Director and a Ouimet Lifetime Member. He is a past President and Ouimet Chair of Tatnuck Country Club. He is currently a member of Worcester County Club, where he also previously served as Ouimet Chair. Mr. Wetzel was honored by the Ouimet Fund as Ouimet Chair of the Year in 2003. He has a great interest in helping youth, and this scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Worcester Country Club, Tatnuck Country Club, Green Hill Golf Course, or elsewhere in the Greater Worcester area. This year’s recipient is Christopher DaSilva, a senior at Salem State University majoring in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Investigations who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club.

WOODLAND GOLF CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Woodland Golf Club takes great pride in its strong history with Francis Ouimet and the Ouimet Fund. To honor this connection, the club established this scholarship through a special donation program during its Centennial celebration in 2013. Mr. Ouimet was a 57-year member of Woodland, and the club has hosted the Ouimet Memorial Tournament since its inception in 1968. This year’s recipient is Lukas LaHaye, a sophomore at Bryant University majoring in Finance and in Leadership and Innovation Management with a minor in Psychology
JERRY YORK SCHOLARSHIP
The Jerry York Scholarship was created from the proceeds of the 2007 Spirit of Golf event which honored Mr. York, the longtime hockey coach at Boston College. Prior to his 2022 retirement, Jerry York was one of the most successful, respected, and well-liked coaches in Boston sports history. He had been a head coach for 50 years at three different colleges and has the winningest record in college hockey. He had taken BC to the “Frozen Four” many times and won the National Championship in 2001, 2008, 2010, and 2012. He is a BC graduate and was an All-American at The Heights in 1966-67. This year’s recipient is Michael Stagnone, a junior at Boston College majoring in both History and in Management with a concentration in Finance who performed his golf service at Vesper Country Club
The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund, the Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts, the WGAM Scholarship Fund, Inc., and the Dolly Sullivan Tournament Founding Committee established this scholarship in 1999. It is named after Dolly Sullivan, who was an outstanding player and physical education instructor at Milton Academy. She was also the niece of Francis Ouimet. Ms. Sullivan died in 1981, and the Dolly Sullivan Tournament was established that year and has been one of the Mass Golf’s most popular events. The WGAM/Dolly Sullivan Scholarship is for a female Ouimet Scholar who may have also competed in Mass Golf events. This year’s recipients are Jillian Johnson and Mia Lombardi. Jillian is a freshman at Merrimack College who performed her golf service at Hatherly Country Club Mia is a freshman at Trinity College majoring in Sports Management who performed her golf service at Concord Country Club.
HERBERT WARREN WIND SCHOLARSHIP
The Herbert Warren Wind Scholarship was established in memory of the legendary golf writer and member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Mr. Wind was a native of Brockton, MA, who died in 2005. He was the author of 14 golf books, was the original golf editor of “Sports Illustrated,” and wrote acclaimed essays for many years in “The New Yorker.” The Herbert Warren Wind Scholarship is

This award was established in 2004 and was funded in part by proceeds of the Deutsche Bank Championship, of which the Tiger Woods Foundation was the principal beneficiary. The Tiger Woods Foundation Award is for an inner-city Scholar. This year’s recipient is Reginald Glover, a junior at UMass Amherst majoring in Mechanical Engineering who performed his golf service at Worcester Country Club
WOOLLARD FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
Deidre, Winchester, and Howard Woollard joined together in 2019 to establish this permanent scholarship. The two brothers and their niece have honored their family name to annually help a Scholar from The Ridge Club who attends Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst, for a junior or senior studying something golf industry related, or another Scholar from The Ridge Club. Golf and/or Stockbridge have their fingerprints on several in the Woollard family, and the trio was proud to formally finalize this scholarship’s creation at a family wedding celebration. This year’s recipient is Owen Woodard, a freshman at Stonehill College majoring in Finance who performed his golf service at The Ridge Club
