THINGS TO KNOW

1

Our college is recognized as the #1 media program in the country, according to the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), which ranks schools based on student achievement. Our advertising program is ranked in the top 10, based on 2024 National Student Advertising Competition rankings of the American Advertising Federation. In other rankings, Gaylord College is #1 in Film and Video, #3 in News, #3 in Scriptwriting, and #4 in Sports (BEA).

2

Thanks to a generous $22 million gift from the Gaylord family, students have access to state-of-the-art television studios, numerous editing bays, multimedia labs, a 2,000-squarefoot student-run advertising and public relations agency, nearly 300 computers with the latest media software, and a dedicated podcasting studio.

3

Our students build impressive portfolios as they design public relations or advertising campaigns, produce films with the student-run Greenlight Creative Productions, write and produce one of our many regular student-run broadcasts, including Sooner Sports Pad and OU Nightly, or write a novel or screenplay.

4

Students can gain from experiential learning ranging from study abroad at OU’s Arezzo campus to a yearly British Media tour. Faculty also organize educational and experiential trips to NYC, D.C., and DFW. Students gain real-world experience reporting from Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.

5

Gaylord College also supports students financially. In 2024, the college awarded approximately $375,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students. The college committed $60,000 for study abroad, experiential opportunities in NYC, D.C., and DFW, and conference travel.
