Both Cai and Ling have presented numerous solo and chamber concerts and earned awards internationally and in the U.S., in additional to teaching. He trained at Shanghai Conservatory of Music and earned his doctorate at Florida State University.

For more than a decade, Eric Tran and Nathan Cheung have performed fourhands originals, transcriptions and classics alike with a focus on bringing humor and joy to the classical music world. Happy Dog Duo has been performing together since they were in middle school. Eric and Nathan both attended Stanford University and majored in music with concentrations in piano performance and composition. They both studied piano with Thomas Schultz and composition with Jaroslaw Kapuscinski and Erik Ulman. VISUAL ARTS

Between the Shadow and the Light: An Exhibition Out of South Africa This a cross-cultural exhibit that explores the history, social wounds and ongoing reconciliation efforts of South Africa. In June of 2013, 20 artists and educators from American Christian universities and six African countries – Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe – gathered in South Africa for two weeks of living, learning and creating together. They undertook an intensive program engaging South Africa and the remarkable role of art and artists within its history, culture and contemporary reality. The resulting exhibit signals the way artists walk between shadow and light, the creative voices that offer the hope of resistance, remembrance, reconciliation, representation and revisioning. The exhibit is co-sponsored by The Lilly Fellows Program for Humanities and the Arts, The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and The Nagel Institute of Calvin College.

Hometown Teams: How Sports Shaped America The traveling exhibition Hometown Teams captures the stories that unfold on the neighborhood fields and courts, the underdog heroics, larger-than-life legends, fierce rivalries and gut-wrenching defeats. For more than 100 years, sports have reflected the trials and triumphs of the American experience and helped shape the national character. This project gives communities an opportunity to share these stories, celebrate local legends and collect memorabilia from the community. Hometown Teams has been made possible at Ouachita by the Arkansas Humanities Council. It is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and State Humanities Councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.

Ouachita Collection

Small Works on Paper

Ouachita’s Department of Visual Arts will host an exhibit featuring selections from the university’s permanent collection, including original works by prominent artists Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran. Moran and Bierstadt have both had works displayed in the White House, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art; pieces by these artists were donated to Ouachita by Dr. Loyde Hudson in 2014. Prints of photographs from Andrè Kertèsz, a HungarianAmerican photographer, will also be featured, along with prints by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and George Rouault. The Kertèsz prints were a gift from the Allen Tillery family of Hot Springs, Ark.

Now in its 31st year, Small Works on Paper is a juried visual art exhibition that showcases artwork no larger than 18 x 24 inches by Arkansas artists who are members of the Arkansas Artist Registry, an online gallery showcasing the artwork of Arkansas artists. The Small Works on Paper exhibition travels to 10 venues throughout the state in a yearlong show, offering Arkansas artists an opportunity to showcase their artwork to patrons all over the state. An out-of-state juror selects a maximum of 40 pieces of artwork to tour with the exhibition.
