The publication of draft regulations provides the opportunity for all persons with an interest in the regulations to submit substantiated inputs, to be considered during the finalisation of the regulations. Two regulations of particular interest to dietitians have recently been published, as follows:

1) On 31 January 2023, Regulations

Relating to the Labelling and Advertising of Foodstuffs (R2986 https://www.gov. za/documents/foodstuffs-cosmeticsand-disinfectants-act-regulationslabelling-and-advertising-3) of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act, 1972 (Act No.54 of 1972), were published in the Government Gazette by the Minister of Health, Dr MJ Phaahla. With this publication, the Minister invited interested persons to submit substantiated comments or representations on the proposed regulations within three months of the date of publication of this Notice.

ADSA members who still wish to submit comments on R2986 can do so individually using the correspondence details provided in the regulations, by 30 April 2023.

2) On 3 March 2023, Regulations

Defining the Scope of Profession of Dietitians, 2023 (R3100 - https:// www.gov.za/documents/healthprofessions-act-regulations-defining- scope-profession-dietitianscomments-invited-3) were published in the Government Gazette by the Minister of Health. Interested persons are invited to submit substantiated comments or representations on the proposed regulations to the Director-General of Health, within three months of the date of publication (3 June 2023).

ADSA members who would like to submit comments on R3100 can either do so individually using the correspondence details provided in the regulations, or alternatively comments can be submitted to ADSA, who will then collate and submit comments to the Minister, on behalf of members.
