The Business of Osteopathy

Introduction

There is much to consider before starting a new venture. It is in your interest to formulate a business plan for yourself as an independent contractor, even if you do not intend to open your own business. The first consideration is where you wish to work. There are a range of possibilities such as working from home, renting a room – perhaps sharing expenses with others, leasing premises or even purchasing an existing practice. This all depends on your personal circumstances, and it is important to understand the drawbacks and advantages of the various options.

Generally, Osteopathy Australia would recommend that it is best to gain experience working in an established practice when you first graduate.

What government schemes may be able to assist?

There are many government schemes that offer new or established business tools and strategies for business management and marketing. These schemes vary from state to state and can be found by searching through government business websites (see page 31).
