WELCOME TO INGFIELD PHIL SMITH, CHAIRMAN as well as speaking to all the current players and looking to implement their own style of play on the side, which given there has not been an opportunity to train due to Christmas and the tight schedule of games is no easy task but the performance in the last two games has received a lot of praise despite the results not falling in our favour. Welcome to Ingfield for the first time in 2024, and a Happy New Year to everyone who has made the journey here today for the visit of Ashington. It is safe to say it has been non-stop so far at Ossett United after the departure of Grant Black on Christmas Eve. Taking a quick step back, the appointment of Grant in October 2022 is one the Board and I stand by and still believe was correct at that time having had very successful spells in his previous two roles. Unfortunately, on this occasion it did not work out for either party Grant Black’s departure confirmed after the 4-1 defeat here to Sheffield. Despite this there has been no panic in the Board room, in fact there is an air of calm with the interim appointment of David Brown, Ryan Pugh and Paddy Miller. In the three weeks since they have set about strengthening the squad
Adam Priestley has returned to Ingfield and looks set to be in the squad for the first time today, with Matt Bancroft (Dual Registration with Scarborough Athletic) and Lewis Turner and Joao Silva (loan from Farsley Celtic) all looking to make their home debuts. Chris Dawson, who has started both the previous two games has returned to Infield on loan from Ashton United. Also joining the club during this period is Lily Heskett who has replaced Emily Crispin as the clubs Sports Therapist. It has also been noticeable how much positivity has been seen in the club members WhatsApp group as well as on social media and messages I have certainly received, our home attendances have slipped over recent times and that is understandable, hopefully with the swell of positivity at the club today will see more of you through the turnstile to witness what we hope

With this in mind we, will be hosting a Fans Forum ahead of next week’s game with Stocksbridge Park Steels, starting at 12:30 in the club house. THE PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS NEVILLE WIGGLESWORTH very popular with the Ossett United faithful. We hope we have played at least a small part in Darryl’s development and we wish him all the best and every success in his future career.
Table topping Stockton Town kept their impressive 11 match unbeaten home run intact last Saturday against us but the encounter was far closer than the 3 – 0 scoreline would suggest and the final outcome was very much in doubt until two very late goals finally settled the issue in their favour. Despite limited time on the training ground David Brown had obviously already stamped his mark on the team with a display of extremely pleasant on the eye football which undoubtedly impressed the travelling Ossett United support. The Stockton officials and supporters were also quick to recognize our qualities on the day. With the ball played on the deck almost throughout the ninety minutes it certainly bodes well for the remainder of the season. The game sadly brought to an end the loan spell from Leeds United of goalkeeper Darryl Ombang who bowed out in typically impressive fashion. Darryl has been one of the most successful loan signings we have had and he proved himself
It was good to see Chris Dawson back amongst our ranks having returned to Ingfield for a second spell on loan from Ashton United. His latest performance at Stockton was highly encouraging indeed as he provided additional creativity to the midfield area of the side. Another player suddenly knocking on the door of the first team is one of our Under 18 team members Louis Richardson who looks a highly promising home-grown young player having caught the eye of the coaching staff. Both Chris and Louis featuring for Ossett United brought home to me in no uncertain terms my advancing years. Chris’s dad Lindsay Dawson was a longserving member of Ossett Albion in the early days of my Chairmanship there and worse still Louis’s grandfather Paul Hargreaves was also with Ossett Albion at that time as well. Paul has attended nearly all of our home games for a couple of seasons now and Lindsay attends games featuring his son whenever he can. Big news coming out of the NPL last week was the bombshell disclosure that Marske United had resigned
from the League following what are termed serious financial difficulties. Nobody ever wants to see a football club go bust and fold up but around the circuit the amount of sympathy for Marske appears to have been slightly tempered by the fact that it is quite widely rumoured in some circles that they have ‘splashed the cash’ to achieve their success. We met Marske earlier this season in the FA Cup and they were run by a delightful group of people. To lose your club is a devastating blow but to do so by virtue of allegedly living beyond your means is a lesson to everyone and a serious wake-up call to us all. With similar problems also occurring at North Shields this season it is a message that football at our level, though prized, must be delivered in a sustainable way. Hopefully sometime soon Marske are able to turn things around, start again and eventually return senior football to the town of Marske. We wish them well.
On the subject of the North East last Saturday’s trip to Stockton was our fifth up there this season leaving us with just one more trek to Hebburn Town on Saturday April 6th. We are acutely aware that the lack of coach travel to away games is a real problem for many of our loyal fans and hopefully this situation can be looked at in the not too distant future. This afternoon we welcome Ashington to Ingfield for what is, I think, their first ever visit. The town of Ashington is steeped in football history being the birthplace of Jack and Bobby Charlton and the Newcastle United legend Jackie Milburn. All three feature on a huge wall painting on the staircase to their impressive bar area to the rear of the main stand which is awe inspiring a fitting tribute to their memories.

THE DUGOUT DAVID BROWN – INTERIM MANAGER playing the players are buying into and enjoy. But with where we find ourselves due to results throughout the season we are fully aware time is not on our side and points are needed.
During this difficult period, myself Ryan Paddy Tom, Phil & Neil are working hard and in constant dialogue on a daily basis to ensure the club begins to move in the right direction. As much as the previous two performances have been pleasing and nice on the eye in large spells of either game, in the situation we are in it ultimately means nothing. Yes it gives us a platform to build off, an environment the players feel comfortable with and a way of
We have brought in players over the last week to help with the squad, additionally seeing Harry Coates back with a ball during the week will be a timely boost to our defensive ranks. The squad is beginning to look strong and where we want it personal wise which we hope the fans can see. I personally just hope the fans now see the football they are pleased with seeing being married up with points. Never too high when we win, never too low when we lose. We stick together. Stronger together.

CAPTAIN’S COLUMN HARRY COATES - CAPTAIN Today is so important that we put in another good performance and come out with points to back that up. Get behind the lads, keep the faith and hopefully we put on a good show for you all. Performances have been good in recent weeks but we all know that it’s the points that count. As the points come we have every confidence we can climb the table. We have made some fantastic signings of real quality and hopefully people can see what we are trying to build.

THE OPPOSITION Ashington AFC – Club History Mention Ashington to any football follower and the chances are they will have heard of the birthplace of World Cup winning brothers Bobby and Jackie Charlton. Jackie Milburn, a legend at Newcastle United also played for the town’s team, known unsurprisingly as the Colliers. Ashington AFC was formed in 1883 making it one of the oldest Clubs in Northumberland. The club entered the FA Cup as early as 1887. After joining the Northern Alliance in 1892, the club soon switched to the East Northumberland League before returning to the Northern Alliance in 1902. The Colliers played there until 1914, winning the League Title in 1913/14, as well as the Northumberland Challenge Bowl in 1913. They switched to the North Eastern League in 1914/15 before the outbreak of World War One brought an end to the League. With the Great War over, Ashington returned to the North Eastern League. After finishing seventh in 1921, the Colliers were elected to join the newly formed Football League Third Division North with fellow North Eastern League sides Darlington, Durham City and Hartlepools United. In 1921 Portland Park was given a huge upgrade with a new pitch re-laid, new pavilion, tearoom and large press box added, as well as new signings Knowles from Manchester United, Thompson from Leeds United and Foster from Sunderland. Irish player-coach Patrick O’Connell, signed from Dumbarton, would later go on to manage Real Betis, Sevilla and FC Barcelona! An opening day crowd of over 9,000 saw Dickinson score the only goal of the game as Ashington defeated Grimsby Town 1-0 at home. By the end of the season the Colliers finished in a respectable 10th place. After finishing second bottom the season after, Ashington were successfully re-elected and finished the 1923/24 season in a superb eighth position, hosting Aston Villa at home in the FA Cup with a crowd of 11,837 packed into Portland Park, to see the Colliers lose 5-1. The Colliers remained in the Football League until the 1928/29 season when a disastrous campaign saw the Colliers finish bottom and become one of the first clubs to miss out on reelection. A struggling team and the miner’s strike, hit the Colliers hard as crowds dropped dramatically to under 1,000 for the final few home games in the Football League. After losing League status, the Colliers returned to the North Eastern League and reached the FA Cup first round again, going down 3-0 to former Football League opponents Rotherham. After the end of the second World War, Ashington returned to the North Eastern League and again reached the FA Cup First Round in 1950, with Rochdale making the trip to Portland
THE OPPOSITION Park. A club record attendance of 13,199 saw Ashington narrowly lose 2-1. When the North Eastern League folded Ashington joined the Midland League for the 1958/59 season. Ashington were runners-up to Peterborough United in their first season and were third in their second season . Despite the success the amount of travelling became a big problem and Ashington joined the North Regional League. The club then joined the Northern Premier League for the 1968/69 season facing the likes of Macclesfield Town, Wigan Athletic, Fleetwood Town and Morecambe, but financial problems meant the Colliers couldn’t afford to play at that level for more than the one season and in 1970 Ashington FC joined the Northern League. In 1974 Ashington reached the FA Amateur Cup Semi-Final against eventual winners Bishop Stortford, drawing 0-0 at Roker Park before losing in a replay at Brentford. After finishing third in 1979, Ashington were relegated to the Northern League Second Division in 1984/85. The worst period in the Club’s history followed as Ashington struggled, the club hit rock bottom in 1994 when they were unable to raise a team against Crook Town resulting in the whole committee resigning. A public meeting saw a new committee formed and to celebrate, a group of supporters launched the highly acclaimed fanzine ‘The Pit Pony Express’. Success soon switched to the team as the Colliers won their first trophy in 19 years, defeating Evenwood Town 1-0 in the 1999 Craven Cup Final and winning the Second Division Championship in 2000/01. Relegation followed, but Ashington fans were soon celebrating again after winning the Craven Cup in 2003 with another victory over Evenwood under new manager Tony Harrison. 2003/04 saw Ashington have one of its most successful seasons in the past 25 years, an FA Cup run saw Ashington reach the Third Qualifying Round, another Craven Cup final appearance, as well as winning the Second Division Championship after a run of 18 straight wins in 2004. Problems both on and off the pitch resulted in a few close scrapes with relegation, with the club frequently changing managers, and with increasing uncertainty surrounding the clubs Portland Park ground, Ashington FC made the worst start to a season in the club’s history in 2007/8, with only one point gained from the first 10 matches. Andy Gowens, a former Ashington player, took over as manager and worked wonders in keeping the Colliers in the Northern League First Division. On Friday 15th February 2008 Ashington played their final game at Portland Park against Seaham Red Star. A bumper crowd of 1,954 – the biggest attendance at a Northern League game in over 25 years – saw Seaham spoil the party with a 3-2 win.
THE OPPOSITION In early August 2008 the new ground Woodhorn Lane was opened and on Saturday 30th August 2008, Ashington played their first game at the new ground defeating Northern Premier League side Ossett Albion 2-1 in the FA Cup with a crowd of 341. Striker Gareth Bainbridge, scorer in the last match at Portland Park against Seaham Red Star had the honour of being the first goal scorer at Woodhorn Lane. Life at Woodhorn Lane began well with Ashington finishing in the top 8 for five consecutive seasons under manager Gary Middleton. During that time Ashington regularly reached the latter stages of the FA Vase, reached the Northern League Cup Final, the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup (losing at Conference side Grimsby Town) and lifted the Northumberland Senior Cup in 2013, beating Whitley Bay 3-0 at St. James Park.
Unfortunately, things were to turn difficult both on and off the pitch as Ashington struggled for several years before local businessman and life-long supporter Brian Shotton took over as Chairman in 2018, bringing back former manager Ian Skinner along the way. After stabilising the club through some very difficult times, including financial problems and the Covid pandemic, Ashington’s fortunes began to change both on and off the pitch. In the first full season after Covid, Ashington went on to finish in 8th position, as well as winning Northern League Cup, thrashing Newcastle Benfield 4-1 in the final at North Shields. The 2022/23 season saw Ashington have one of its most successful seasons in living memory. Ashington went on an amazing FA Cup run, knocking out several sides from higher divisions, before narrowly losing away at National League North highflyers Kings Lynn Town away in the 4th Qualifying Round. Attendances would increase throughout the season with the Colliers averaging over 500, and a record ground attendance of 1,424 watched Ashington’s 3-0 FA Cup win against Stocksbridge Park Steels. After finishing 2nd in the Northern League First Division, the Colliers qualified for the interstep promotion play off, going on to beat Glossop North End 3-0 away to gain promotion to the Northern Premier League East Division for 2023/24, The Colliers making a return to the Northern Premier League for the first time in 55 years!
THE OPPOSITION Karl Dryden – Hugely experienced goalkeeper that is in his second spell at the club after re-joining the Colliers a couple of seasons ago. Previously played under Gary Middleton, winning the 2013 Northumberland Senior Cup, before moving onto to Morpeth Town where he won the FA Vase, and Dunston, where he won the Northern League title. Recently took on the role of goalkeeping coach at the club. Ross Coombe – New signing for the 23/24 season, goalkeeper Ross joins from fellow NPL East side Consett. Former clubs include South Shields, Stockton Town, West Auckland Town and Whickham. Jorden Summerly – Left back that loves to get forward, Jordan is now in his third season at Ashington after joining from North Shields. Formerly with Blyth Spartans. He has won the Northern League Cup, Cleator Cup and promotion to the Northern Premier League in his two seasons at the club. Darren Lough – Experienced defender Darren re-joined his hometown club at the start of last season, making the move from Hebburn Town. Central defender that can also play at left back; Darren started his career at Newcastle United before moving to Ashington. He left Ashington in 2012, playing professionally in Iceland for KA Akureyri and IA Akranes, before returning to England, joining South Shields and later Hebburn Town, winning the FA Vase with both.
Nathan Buddle – Ashington beat off competition from several clubs to sign Nathan from Blyth Spartans during the summer. Central defender with experience at National League level, Nathan previously represented Ashington Juniors as a youngster. After representing Hartlepool United at youth level, Nathan joined Blyth Spartans where he starred in their FA Cup run to the Third Round in 2015. He moved on to Carlisle United, later representing Gateshead and Spennymoor Town, before his return to Blyth. Matty Dopson – England schoolboy international right fullback Matty joins Ashington from local rivals Blyth Spartans for the 23/24 season. Highly rated youngster who played 7 times for Blyth in the National League North last season, scoring once against Kidderminster Harriers. Charlie Exley – Defender Charlie is a new signing for the 23/24 season, making the move from fellow NPL East side Consett. A product of the youth system at Gateshead, Charlie went on to sign for Scottish Football League side Queen of the South, before moving on to Gretna and Whickham.
THE OPPOSITION Kyle Errington – New signing for the 23/24 season. A young defender who joins the club from Gateshead. Spent last season on loan at Newcastle Benfield. George Rounsfell – Versatile player that can play in midfield and defence, George joins Ashington from Northern League Division 2 side Washington for the 23/24 season. He was at Newcastle United as a youngster, moving to the USA to play university soccer for the wonderfully named Campbell Fighting Camels, before returning to the UK. Ben Sampson – Winner of yet another supporters ‘player of the season’ award, as well as ‘goal of the season’ for his delightful 35-yard chip in the 50 rout of Bishop Auckland, last season was another great campaign for Ben. Comfortable in both midfield and at full-back, Ben is in his second spell at the club after re-joining a few seasons ago after a brief spell at North Shields. Max Emmerson – Young midfielder that has been out of action for almost two years after suffering a serious injury in Ashington’s 1-1 draw at North Shields in 2021. Now back to full fitness, Max joined the Colliers from Whitley Bay in 2019. Karl Ross – Karl is the longest serving player at Ashington after joining his hometown club from South Shields over 5 years ago. A box-to-box midfielder who has the great knack of scoring important goals, Karl has also previously played for Whitley Bay. He made almost 50 appearances for the Colliers last season. Craig Spooner – Attacking midfielder Craig is now in his third season at the club after joining from North Shields in 2021. Former Newcastle United youngster that has previously played for Whitley Bay and West Auckland Town, Craig is a hugely versatile player, covering at both full-back positions last season when required. ‘Spoons’ won the players’ player of the season award after a great season last year, topped off by scoring the third goal in the 3-0 inter-step promotion play-off final win over Glossop North End that secured Ashington’s long awaited return to the Northern Premier League. Cameron Gascoigne – Forward that joins Ashington from Newcastle Benfield for the 23/24 season, making the step up from the Northern League. Nephew of former England, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio and Rangers midfielder Paul Gascoigne, Cameron also represents his country, playing for England Universities. A promising young player with loads of potential.
THE OPPOSITION Ben Franklin – Young midfielder Ben is a summer signing from Gateshead. Has previously been with Scunthorpe United. Dan Maguire – England C international forward ‘Nippa’ joined Ashington at the start of last season, making a massive impact as the Colliers reached the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup and gained promotion to the Northern Premier League. He is vastly experienced at National League level having previously played for Blyth Spartans, AFC Halifax Town, York City and Darlington. Started his career with Northern Alliance side Seaton Delaval. Wilson Kneeshaw – Striker who has made an instant impact at Woodhorn Lane, scoring twice on his debut in a 4-0 FA Cup win over North Shields. A pre-season signing from Northern Alliance side Newcastle Independent, Wilson started his career at Middlesbrough before moving onto Romanian League side ACS Poli Timisoara. He returned to England, playing for Darlington and Blyth Spartans, before moving to the USA where he joined United Soccer League side Sacramento Republic, scoring on his debut in a 4-0 win against Portland Timbers. After a couple of seasons in the States, he returned to Darlington for a brief period, before moving to Newcastle Independent. Mason Hardy – New signing for the 23/24 season. Exciting young striker Mason joins the Colliers from Carlisle United having impressed during preseason, where he scored in wins against Bedlington Terriers and Whitley Bay. Simon Jakab - Hungarian defender that can play at both right back and centre back. Formerly of North Shields and Consett, Simon also represents the English Universities team. Ben Williams - Young central defender who was recently released by Sunderland. Ben made his Colliers debut in the 5-1 Senior Cup win against Newcastle University. Paul Van Zandvliet - New signing Paul has made a big impact at Woodhorn Lane since joining the Colliers from North Shields. A powerful midfielder with an eye for goal, Paul scored twice on his home debut in the 3-1 win against Dunston. Morgan Dart - Morgan joins the Colliers after spells at Seaham Red Star, Blyth Spartans and Ryhope Colliery Welfare. Made his Ashington debut in an excellent 5-0 win at North Ferriby.
THE OPPOSITION Gary Ormston - Veteran midfielder who joins the Colliers from Newcastle Blue Star. An FA Vase winner with Whitley Bay in 2011, Gary was also part of the North Shields team that won the Northern League title in 2022. Made his Ashington debut at home to Liversedge. Will Constantin - Versatile youngster that can play in midfield and defence, Will makes the move to Woodhorn Lane from West Auckland Town. He is also registered with National League outfit Gateshead. Connor Thomson - Powerful striker that joins Ashington on loan from Morpeth Town and has made an immediate impact, scoring a number of goals including a brace on his debut in a 4-0 win at Winterton Rangers. His former clubs include Carlisle United, Blackburn Rovers, Barrow, Halifax Town, Gateshead, Scarborough Athletic and Blyth Spartans.

Since our inception back in 2013 we've been good pals with Alex and the fellas over at AGC towers reviewing the clobber season after season and getting the word out there about a brand with all the right Modernist credentials, who produce quality gear, which takes influences from the past to produce clothing for the present. THE UNTOLD GAME MARTYN GREEN As a Player and a Manager A pair of deaths at the beginning of this year remind us just how difficult it is to succeed at the highest pinnacle of the footballing world. Der Kaiser, Franz Beckenbauer, was the most successful European in World Cup history, winning as a player in 1974 (after heartbreak in 1966 spurred his career and introduced The Curse of Der Kaiser to break English hearts for nearly 60 years… so far). He added a second winner’s medal as a manager in 1990, his first managerial role. More recently, Didier Deschamps has joined him in that rarified position, winning as a player in 1998, and a manager in 2018. But neither quite managed to reach the heights of Mario Zagallo, the Brazilian who won twice as a player, and then as a manager, and passed on 5th January. Zagallo had a brush with the World Cup almost before his career had even began. Joining America FC in Rio de Janeiro when he was 17, his early training was interrupted by the military service he was required to undertake. As a young, new soldier, he was deployed as part of the security force to the Maracana Stadium to witness Brazil’s 1950 World Cup final defeat to Uruguay, a defeat that saw devastation across the nation, with the goalkeeper on the day burning the goalposts, and suicides recorded as being caused
by the defeat. It certainly left a mark on Zagallo. He rejoined America but was quickly snapped up by Brazilian giants Flamengo, where he would spend the first half of his career. A tough, tricky inside-left, he made his debut in 1951, and made over 200 appearances throughout the 1950s, culminating in a callup to the 1958 World Cup side. It was a chance for Brazil to put the ghosts of 1950 to rest, with an exciting team, the undisputed star of which was a 17 year old Pele. He and Garrincha were the driving force of the side, but Zagallo played his part. In the final, which Pele made his own, he added a goal to the 5-2 victory. Four years later, he played in every game as Brazil became the last team to retain the World Cup. But, unusually for a footballer, winning two World Cup medals as a player was only the beginning of his success.
THE UNTOLD GAME MARTYN GREEN Zagallo retired as a player in 1965, and became the manager of Botafogo where he had seen out his playing days. He saw immediate success, winning the Brazilian championship, just as the national side were struggling in England. For all their talent, they were unable to cope with such a physical approach to their ability, and were kicked and pushed out of the World Cup in the Group Stage, only beating Bulgaria. Despite the injustice, there was a feeling in Brazil that the best team in the world shouldn’t have been daunted by those kinds of tactics. They turned to Zagallo, who could combine the flair of yesteryear with the gritty determination required in the 1960s.
Brazil run out 3-1 winner, exorcising any lingering ghosts. Their two most difficult games out of the way, the final was one of the most one-sided affairs in World Cup history, as Brazil ran riot. A pre-tournament bootcamp to get used to the altitude in Mexico City made them fitter and stronger than their opponents, and they won the game 4-1. Zagallo was the first person ever to win as both a player and a manager.
He had been part of the revolutionary introduction of a 4-2-4 as a player, but it was time for a revolution of his own. That formation, he decided, was too brittle, so he dropped a forward back into midfield. Rivellino, who had struggled to find a place in the side before, was the lucky player this opened a door for. He repaid Zagallo handsomely.
He had enjoyed a peripatetic career after 1974, splitting his time between jobs in his homeland and jobs in the middle-east. But as the 1994 World Cup closed in, Carlos Alberto Parreira realised he needed more experience. He called up Brazil’s last World Cup winning coach, and asked him to join as his assistant. Zagallo agreed, and the rest is (more) history.
The presence of Rivellino allowed Pele to demonstrate his prodigious talents, but that didn’t mean it was an easy route to the final. A close victory over holders England saw them into the semi-final, where their 1950 conquerors Uruguay were waiting. Another close game saw
He remains the only man in history with four World Cup winner’s medals, and when he passed on 5th January he was the last remaining of the 1958 World Cup squad. The most successful man in World Cup history.
Relative malaise followed that success, despite Zagallo taking his World Champions to the semi-finals in 1974, and it would be a quarter of a century before Brazil sat at the summit of world football again. The man they turned was Mario Zagallo.

CLUB HISTORY THE FORMATION Ossett United was created on 1 June 2018 following the merger of Ossett Town AFC (est. 1936) and Ossett Albion AFC (est. 1944). Both Ossett Town and Ossett Albion had managed to gain Northern Premier League status and maintain that level of football for a remarkable period of time.
The two clubs merged under the leadership of a new board brought together from the two previous clubs. The Club made its new home Ingfield, the previous home of Ossett Town, and used Dimple Wells, the previous home of Ossett Albion, as its Ladies and Academy Team base.
EARLY CHANGES Despite a successful first season on the pitch, off field things were not as successful with a number of board resignations and some challenging financial issues to deal with following the merger. By the end of the 2018/19 season, Phil Smith had taken on the mantle of club chairman with Stuart Garside, Steve Hanks, Paul Billing, Neil Spofforth and Joe Hanks joining the board. There were more troubles for Ossett United in November 2019 as a significant and unprecedented court case, dating back to a tackle in 2015 when Ossett Town were playing Radcliffe Borough, was lost with United facing legal and damages costs amounting to £135,000. Fortunately, the club received a generous loan from two of its closest supporters to avoid the club going into liquidation (at worst) or selling the Ingfield ground (at best).

James Rogers and Phil Smith swapped roles due to Smith’s work commitments with Rogers taking on the role as Chairman, a role he had previously held at Ossett Town. 2020 also saw the club declare Dimple Wells as surplus to requirements and made arrangements to surrender the lease making Ingfield the single home of the united club.
GROUND IMPROVEMENTS With the off-field rollercoaster settling down the Board progressed numerous ground improvements at Ingfield with the replacement of the pitch side barrier and installation of LED floodlights being completed in 2021 before attention turned to improving the changing room facilities which took shape in the summer of 2023 thanks to further grants from the Football Foundation. The extension includes an additional match official room, two offices and a medical room as well as a larger, modern changing room that will become fully operational by the summer of 2024.
The Boardroom has also been strengthened in the summer of 2023 with Dawn Rogers and Kate Hennighan taking their place alongside the eight members already in place.
CLUB HISTORY UP TO NOW... On the pitch, the first year (2018/19) was a remarkable success with attendances significantly increased from what either club had experienced previously, coupled with success on the pitch reaching the play-off semi-final and winning the County Cup, under the guidance of manager Andy Welsh. Following the departure of Andy Welsh a couple of months in to the 2019/20 season Wayne Benn, assisted by Chick Hayward, oversaw two covid hit seasons. Hopes were high after a positive pre-season in 2021/22 with Benn reshaping the squad. The season started well with Ossett United in the top half of the table but a run of only one win in three months saw a change in the dugout at Christmas with Jas Collvier and Mark Ward taking a joint managerial role. The season ended well with the pair unbeaten at Ingfield with seven wins and two draws but away from home inconsistent performances and results saw a ninth placed finish in only the clubs second completed season.Colliver and Ward strengthened the squad throughout preseason, and despite on paper the squad looking as strong as it ever had, results did not match expectations. Mark Ward resigned in September with Colliver taking sole charge before leaving the club by mutual consent the following month. Grant Black became the clubs fourth permanent manager in October 2022, winning his first game in charge, 2-0 at the eventual play-off champions Long Eaton United and only tasting defeat twice in his first 16 games. Results tailed off as the season ended with the club finishing in 15 th place and only avoiding a relegation play-off place on the last day of the season. The management team oversaw a major overhaul of the first team squad ahead of the 23/24 season and despite glimpses of positivity an inconsistency in results saw United sitting in 15th place when Black and Ossett United went their separate ways on 24 December. Assistant Manager David Brown was asked to become interim manager supported by Ryan Pugh and senior player Paddy Miller as the club looks to have a positive 2024.
