Riverview Native Serves With U.S. C.A.T.E. Foundation Announces Family Fun & Community Day Navy At Naval Hospital Guam By Amy Schechter By Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Robert Zahn

Looking for something enjoyable to do with the entire family, but don’t want to be outside during the dog days of summer? The C.A.T.E. Foundation is excited to announce its first annual Family Fun and Community Day at E.G. Simmons Park on October 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m. Just in time for fall in Florida! This event offers something for the entire family with free activities for children. Kids will spend hours as they jump through bouncy houses, have their faces painted, and hurl water balloons at each other. When ready for a rest, they can ask for a balloon animal from a friendly clown or watch a magic show. When the family gets hungry, you can select from one of twenty-five vendors to please even the picky palettes. Cash or card is accepted at most vendors. C.A.T.E. is also sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off during the event from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.. Aspiring chefs can enter for a $25 fee with prizes and trophies for the top recipes. Chili connoisseurs can sample a bowl for only $5. C.A.T.E. Co-founder, Tina Patch, urges the entire community to check it out: “We’re excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun. We plan to do this event every October.” C.A.T.E. stands for Conquering Addiction Through Education. The C.A.T.E. Foundation is dedicated to helping adults who struggle with addiction and their families. They seek to reestablish lives through education. Proceeds from the Family Fun and Community Day will benefit programs that give back directly to the community. Patch continues, “It takes a community to come forward and acknowledge some of these tough issues.” Besides support groups for drug, alcohol, or gambling abuse, C.A.T.E. offers free yoga classes to promote

healthy living and is poised to offer support classes for people suffering from food addictions. C.A.T.E. is still seeking vendors and business sponsors. All sponsors will be given a tent at the event to hand out advertising and a permanent place on the foundation’s website under patrons. For more information on the Chili Cook-Off, how to become a vendor or sponsor, or more detailed information, contact Tina Patch or Sharon Lafelice at 7737175 or 331-5246.
