For five years, my family lived on an army proving ground in southern Indiana Years bef ore, when the Ar my bought the land to test weapons and ammunition, it rounded up the farmhouses and aligned them in a U-shape, where the top brass and families lived The entrance off the highway was a long, two-lane road that passed a pond, where we of ten went for picnics and fishing, and woods There was a sizable deer population that unfortunately, sometimes met with grim ends from vehic les on the road, especially at night My dad, a civilian civil engineer working for the Army, loved wildlife and wanted to prevent car vs deer collisions He came up with a simple yet effective solution: waist-high poles set in inter vals along the road, with V-shaped steel toppers, with the point of the V toward the road The steel toppers reflected head lights that made it look like, to deer, light flashing lights to scare them from the roads It worked! He didn’t patent it, though the Army probably would have gotten the patent My dad was c lever like that He probably fixed many things around the houses with things that didn’t exist anywhere
There’s only one time I thought of something that could be an invention I know there are those out there (you know who you are) who immediately c lean dishes almost as soon as they ’ re used L et ’ s say I’m not one of them But I became an expert on washing dishes in such an order that I knew what would be on the bottom level, what would stack nicely on top of that and even dishes that would t o p a l l o

Here’s how the cover stor y on inventors came about The press room at The Inspired Home Show is my haven. There are materials from a lot of the exhibitors to browse, relative quiet to compose a blog or answer email, comfy chairs, food and fascinating people. (Thanks to the International Housewares Association for setting ever ything up so well for us.) There isn’t an air of competition among the press In fact, we ’ re of ten asking each other what the most fascinating product we ’ ve seen is and what booth is a not-tobe-missed visit One day, I brought my bagel, cream cheese and coffee to a table where Brian Fried was sitting We introduced ourselves and began a conversation that hasn’t stopped I told him I wanted to do a stor y on him, the National Inventor Club and inventors in general He asked me to appear on a virtual members meeting to talk about how they might be able to attract press for them and their inventions I tell you what, next time I have a “I think this could be done better ” idea, I’m calling Brian I hope you enjoy the artic le

G.T.Design Presents Sahil Jute Collection
G T Design presents Sahil, the new collection of mats designed by Deanna Comellini, which embodies a sustainable and visionar y approach to design Made 100 percent from jute, a renewable and biodegradable natural fiber, these mats come to life on ancient jacquard looms, paying homage to ancient manufacturing tradition
The term Sahil, which means “coast ” in Arabic, represents the meeting place between land and water This collection evokes landscapes of calm and openness, where design intertwines with nature The earthy tones and geometric patterns of the rugs tell a stor y of authenticity and nomadic inspiration
“ The quietude of sand and the fluid movement of water inspire this collection, made from 100 percent jute, which speaks of authenticity through the purity of materials and archaic patterns,” said Deanna Comellini “Its natural tones and raw textures are a tribute to ancient artisanal master y, cultural exchange and ecological awareness ”
Jute, of ten called the golden fiber for its naturally golden color, is a fast-growing plant that requires minimal amounts of water and fertilizers It absorbs significant quantities of CO2 during growth and its short life cyc le allows for multiple annual har vests
Jute rugs offer a combination of practicality and beauty, with a material texture that adds warmth and depth to interiors They are naturally insulating and hypoallergenic, ideal for living rooms, bedrooms and high-traffic areas
Founded by Deanna Comellini, G.T.Design is the pioneering brand in the contemporar y rug sector The company has reinvented traditional materials through the lens of design, transforming jute into a refined design material, between raw aesthetics and sustainable luxur y
Sahil celebrates the continuous dialogue between craf tsmanship and design, honoring ancient techniques while shaping the future of sustainable design
For over 40 years, Comellini has experimented by combining craftsmanship and industrial design while working first on product design and later on textiles She has developed the notion of “ imperfect design,” a philosophy that transcends time, marked by the search for imperfections to celebrate authenticity
In the 1990s, she focused on the concept of the contemporar y rug and natural materials while innovating the industr y with a new textile for interior design In 1977, she founded G T Design, taking on the role of creative director
G T Design combines artisanal techniques and manual craf tsmanship with cutting-edge technolog y to create luxurious products and custom-made designs Using top-quality natural materials and high-performance technical yarns, G T Design’s signature collections and bespoke creations have an unparalleled attention to detail Fo r

Frame, the multi-year programme designed by Salvatore Indriolo and launched in 2018, continues to expand through new typological and formal integrations In 2025, the collection grows with two new features: the acid-etched glass top for the Frame Sideboards, colormatched with the frame, and the new wall units in the Frame Bookcase system, with open, flap and upward-opening doors
These elements reinforce the identity of a collection, affirming Fantin's systemic and sustainable design approach
Made of metal, the ver y soul of Fantin, a leading company in the processing of this material for over 50 years, the furnishings in the Frame collection are distinguished by three simple rules:
• All of the frames are made from square tubes and they can all be used to form rightangled structures for an end less array of products, from tables and sideboards to kitchens and beds
• The vertical parts (doors, drawers, sides and backboards) are inset and flush with the frames
Fantin Expands Popular Collection
• The horizontal parts (table and kitchen tops) rest on top of the frames, which are always on show
In addition, there is the part played by sustainability Bearing in mind the c lose ties between human well-being and the environment, Fantin continues to take a commendable approach on all fronts
For example, it uses 100 percent recyc lable materials, such as the metal that has always been a distinguishing feature of its products and the etched glass tops for the Frame Kitchen that it introduced in matching hues last year
Furthermore, it has a short supply chain and uses cutting-edge production technolog y, such as its coating system The latter uses nothing but non-toxic powder coatings and boasts an innovative internal recyc ling system that enables it to reduce its consumption of colors
All of the items in the collection can be produced in all 35 finishes in the Fantin color palette KN
