Armando Ramírez, Clerk of the Court.

Anyone is at risk of foreclosure By Ángel Irizarry - Osceola Star Armando Ramirez, Clerk of the Court, had been investigating a series of foreclosure cases in which fraud documents had been made to portray the banks as owners of the notes, and allows the banks to foreclose the houses. Hector Acosta, Chief investigator, explained that the notes are able to be sell in whole or fragmented, which leads to a more than one entity holding the title of the note. If two or more banks hold pieces of the fragmented note, and the home owner pays off the mortgage of the note with one bank but not the other entities who may hold a piece of the note, then the other entities can foreclose the house, which explains why a house could be foreclose by more than one bank at a time. “A case about two months ago, Wells Fargo, they payed off the loan to Wells Fargo. After they payed it off Wells

Fargo filed for foreclosure. According to them they got a satisfaction of mortgage, and Wells Fargo foreclose them because they bought another piece from another bank that showed they were not paying, and then came Wells Fargo because they don’t know what they are doing there is so much fraud, and they filed foreclosure towards that family even though they payed for it,” explained Acosta as one of the biggest problems with note fragmentation. When a note is payed off, it is supposed to be return with a stamp that says payed in full, but what is being received is a satisfaction of mortgage because the original note were scanned and destroyed explained Acosta. This fraud problems with the original notes had led to the various foreclosure cases in the state, and it leaves a question in mind is anyone’s home safe from foreclosure.

Duke Energy Osceola project for solar energy St. Petersburg, Fl. – Duke Energy Florida continues to advance the development of solar energy with the announcement of a new 3.8-megawatt solar facility in Osceola County. The company has filed a storm water and environmental resources permit with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. DEF will file a land development permit with the Osceola County Planning Department. The agencies’ review of the permits may require up to eight weeks. The Osceola project is the first in a strategic, long-range plan to install 35 megawatts of solar by 2018 and up to 500 megawatts of solar power in the state by 2024, ensuring residents have increasingly clean and reliable energy.

The Osceola facility will be built on 17 acres of a larger 25-acre parcel owned by DEF on Canoe Creek Road in Kenansville. The larger parcel includes the Canoe Creek transmission substation, owned and operated by DEF. The existing 230-kV substation will allow the new solar facility to be connected to the grid without additional easements or extensive line construction. The company’s new solar facilities will complement a new combined-cycle natural gas plant to be built in Citrus County, an upgrade of a combined-cycle energy complex in Polk County and the purchase of the Osprey Energy Center, also in Polk County. These projects will allow the company to meet a significant need for additional energy for its customers beginning in 2018 and to retire half of its Florida coalfired fleet by that same year.

“As the cost of solar energy continues to decrease, we’re increasing our investments in this resource,” said Alex Glenn, Duke Energy state president – Florida. “It’s part of our ongoing strategy to offer clean energy and provide customers more options to use renewable energy.”

Over the past eight years, Duke Energy has invested more than $4 billion in wind and solar facilities in 12 states. This includes the company’s Stanton Solar Farm located in Orange County, which began operation in 2011. The company plans to invest about $3 billion in renewable energy over the next five years.

Construction of the Osceola Solar Facility will begin once permits are approved. The facility is expected to be on line in early 2016.

One megawatt of large-scale solar is equivalent to about 200 typical residential rooftop systems. The number varies by state and conditions.

Two Suspects Arrested for Neglect and Battery on a Person Over 65 Osceola County - On October 12, Osceola County Sheriff's detectives arrested Raymond Sutherland and his wife, Debbie Sutherland. Raymond was charged with Battery on a Person Over 65 Years Old, Aggravated Battery on a Person Over 65 Years Old, Aggravated Abuse of an Elderly Person and Neglect of an Elderly Person with Great Harm. Debbie was charged with Battery on a Person Over 65 Years Old. The investigation began in midSeptember when deputies took a report regarding an 81-year old female who was recovering at a temporary medical rehabilitation center in Kissimmee. The victim told deputies she had fallen in her bedroom and asked her son, Raymond, on several occasions for assistance. She lost consciousness and when she woke up, she lying on the floor in a pool of blood. After some time, the son called for medical assistance and she was taken to the hospital. Detectives spoke with her son who initially did not admit to harming his mother, but said he couldn't remember because he takes medication that causes him to black out. Doctors told detectives the victim's injuries were not consistent with a fall, but instead appeared to be from abuse. Based on this information, detectives interviewed Raymond and Debbie regarding the care of the victim. It was

determined, Debbie and Raymond both physically abused the victim and detectives obtained felony warrants for their arrest. In addition, Raymond was charged with Elderly Neglect for not initially providing medical assistance for the victim. On October 13, both suspects were booked into the Osceola County Jail. The victim is in critical condition and the investigation is on-going at this time.

Johnny Polanco

Carmen Gonzalez

Hispanic Heroes Kissimmee, FL - In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we have two local Hispanic heroes who make a difference in our community every day that we want to recognize during this month. Johnny Polanco Johnny has been giving back to the community – personally and professionally – for nearly 30 years. As the lead child advocate at the Children’s Advocacy Center for Osceola County, Johnny helps victims of sexual abuse connect to the resources they so desperately need. He also motivates them about the importance of going to school and excelling in core subjects like science, math and English. “In my eight years on this job, it’s rewarding to know that I’ve made a difference in a lot of lives,” says Johnny, a native of the Dominican Republic. “These kids have gone

through so much trauma, and my goal is to be part of their healing process.” Carmen Gonzalez There’s a growing need for bilingual foster parents to care for children with limited English proficiency. And nowhere is that more evident than in Osceola County, where nearly half the population identifies as Hispanic or Latino. On the front lines of addressing this issue is Carmen Gonzalez, a lifelong child advocate whose career touches on everything from working with drugdependent newborns to serving as a dependency case manager. Since 2013, Carmen has trained foster parents in the Osceola County office of Community Based Care of Central Florida. And this year, she taught the organization’s first Spanish-language PRIDE course, a multiweek orientation designed to certify more bilingual foster families. People like them are what make us proud of say that we are Latinos.

Orlando Magic victorious against Houston Rockets Orlando, Fl - After a slow start, the Orlando Magic were able to fight their way back and come out victorious against the Houston Rockets. The Magic were able to score 37 points in the third quarter and take the lead. As Coach Scott Skiles continues to evaluate players and make lineup decisions, we’re seeing more surprises from Orlando’s bench. Devyn Marble, a small forward, played 28 minutes and shot 6 for 8 from the field ending with 21 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. C.J. Watson, point guard, also played well with 7 rebounds, 12 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. The 123 to 119 lead over Houston set a good tone for Orlando. The Magic took on the Miami Heat at the Amway Center this past Tuesday. Coach Skiles rotated as many players as he could. Fifteen Magic players made an appearance on the court. C.J. Watson got the start at point guard and added 5 points, 6 assists and 4

rebounds to the win. Shabazz Napier put up impressive points against his former team with 15 including 3 three pointers. Eleven of those came in overtime. Aaron Gordon also made his first appearance since pre-season has begun. Gordon came off the bench for the Magic but added ten points in his 17 minutes on the court. The overtime win was another impressive change for the Magic. While it’s still too early to see any form of consistency, it is nice to Orlando take a lead and finish with a win. Now that the Magic are on a two game winning streak, the team has traveled to Brazil to play Flamengo. Last season Flamengo played in Orlando but this season Orlando will travel to play them in their country. Flamengo is one of the most successful teams playing in the Novo Basquete Brasil which the men’s professional basketball league in Brazil. It has won the Championship for the past three years. The game will be aired on NBA TV at 5pm Saturday. Orlando’s next home game will be against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday at 7pm.
