Salud / Health - Noticias / News UCF, Médicos de Osceola Regional Medical Center en entrenamiento formaron parte del personal médico de la toma de posesión presidencial Kissimmee, FL - Los médicos de emergencia en formación de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Florida Central utilizaron sus conocimientos en una escena nacional, ya que formaron parte del personal médico de la toma de posesión presidencial en Washington, D.C. Los médicos están completando sus residencias en Medicina de Emergencia en Osceola Regional Medical Center. Durante la toma de posesión, tres residentes de sala de emergencia y dos médicos asistentes de Osceola Regional llevaron a cabo un área de tratamiento y vitales adyacente al área de evaluación médica en
el National Mall, en asociación con otros primeros socorristas. Los doctores - Adam Benzing, Amninder Singh y Amanda Webb - están entre un puñado de médicos a nivel nacional para ser elegidos para el personal de este evento. La residencia de medicina de emergencia es parte del consorcio GME entre la división de North Florida de HCA y UCF, que se lanzó en el otoño de 2015 con el objetivo de abordar la escasez de residencias de médicos en Florida. IRS - Noticias / News Comienza la temporada de impuestos del 2017 por Ingreso del Trabajo (EITC) Washington — El Servicio de Impuestos Internos (IRS) dijo que, según lo programado, ha comenzado a aceptar y procesar declaraciones federales de impuestos de 2016. Este año se espera que se presenten más de 153 millones de declaraciones. Las personas tendrán hasta el martes, 18 de abril de 2017 para presentar sus declaraciones de 2016 y pagar cualquier impuesto adeudado. El plazo es más tarde en el año debido a varios factores. Este año, el plazo habitual del 15 de abril cae sábado, que normalmente daría a los contribuyentes hasta por lo menos el lunes siguiente. 2017 Tax Filing Season Opens Washington — The Internal Revenue Service said that it successfully started accepting and processing 2016 federal individual income tax returns on schedule. More than 153 million returns are expected to be filed this year. People have until Tuesday, April 18, 2017 to file their 2016 returns and pay any taxes due. The deadline is later this year due to several factors. The usual April 15 deadline falls on Saturday this year, which would normally give taxpayers until at least the following Monday. However, Emancipation Day, a D.C. holiday, is observed on Monday, April 17, giving taxpayers nationwide an additional day to file. By law, D.C. holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone in the same way federal holidays do. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Monday, Oct. 16, 2017 to file. The IRS expects more than 70 percent of taxpayers to get tax refunds this year. Last year, 111 million refunds were issued, with an average refund of $2,860. Refund Delays A law change now requires the IRS to hold refunds on tax returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until Feb. 15. Under this change required by the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act, the IRS must hold the entire refund — even the portion not
associated with the EITC and ACTC. Even though the IRS will begin releasing EITC and ACTC refunds on Feb. 15, many early filers will still not have actual access to their refunds until the week of Feb. 27. The additional delay is due to several factors, including weekends, the Presidents' Day holiday and the time banks often need to process direct deposits. This law change gives the IRS more time to detect and prevent fraud. Beyond the EITC and ACTC refunds and the additional security safeguards, the IRS anticipates issuing more than nine out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days. However, it’s possible a particular return may require additional review and take longer. Taxpayers are reminded that state tax agencies have their own refund processing timeframes that vary, and some states may make additional reviews to ensure their refunds are being issued properly. Even so, taxpayers should file as usual, and tax return preparers should submit returns as they normally do.

No Early Release of Students on Five Wednesdays During Testing The Osceola County School District is planning ahead for the upcoming spring by allowing students in all grade levels to have a full day of school on the Wednesdays when testing will be administered. As such, parents should be advised that there will be no early release of students on the following Wednesdays: • March 1, 2017 – In-School SAT Day • April 12, 2017 • April 19, 2017 • April 26, 2017 • May 3, 2017
Students will be dismissed from school on these days as they normally would on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday. By lengthening the Wednesdays during testing, it allows more flexibility of the school-wide testing schedule. Schools will now have options to build in more opportunities for breaks between the different testing sessions to allow students to stretch, relax, and refocus. Osceola's Advanced Manufacturing Consortium Now Called BRIDG The International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research, known as ICAMR, announced that it will officially do business as BRIDG, an acronym that captures the central mission of the innovative technology collective – “Bridging the Innovation Development Gap.” Since it launched in 2014, the consortium has provided a platform for advanced manufacturing development to “bridge the gap” between advanced research at Florida’s universities or industry innovators and costcompetitive manufacturing of new
products tied to connected devices and the Internet of Things (IoT). Its partners now range from a Belgiumbased leading international hub in nano-electronics and digital technology to a home-grown photonics and smart sensor developer. In addition to a new name for the consortium, Osceola County has renamed the 500-acre, master planned site where the consortium is headquartered from the Osceola Tech Farm to NeoCity. In March, BRIDG will open its new design center at NeoCity, across

The 109,000-square-foot facility will be one of the most advanced fabrication labs in the world and offer partners and others the opportunity to share equipment and conduct research needed to profitably access the next-generation sensor economy. Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Cámara aprueba enmiendas a Reforma Laboral San Juan, PR – Durante los trabajos de la sesión ordinaria, la Cámara de Representantes concurrió con las enmiendas al proyecto de Reforma Laboral, que tiene como objetivo impulsar el desarrollo económico y la creación de empleos en Puerto Rico. Entre las enmiendas aprobadas se encuentran la reducción del periodo probatorio plasmado en la medida original, de 18 a 9 meses; y se establece que se acumularán 12 días por enfermedad al año. Se incluye, además, lenguaje para establecer que la medida es de aplicación prospectiva y modifica el texto sobre el derecho a participar en servicios religiosos. De otra parte, se dio paso a la Resolución de la Cámara 19, de la autoría del representante Jorge Navarro Suárez, que ordena a la Comisión de Gobierno realizar una investigación sobre las ejecutorias de la entidad Alix Partners International y su oficial de restructuración, Lisa Donahue, en la Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica (AEE) desde que fue contratada en septiembre del 2014. La investigación también abarcará el alcance real del gasto incurrido en este contrato, así como a otros bufetes y asesores que Donahue
recomendó. Además, se indagará sobre posibles conflictos de interés que pudieran existir en este proceso de restructuración de la AEE. La exposición de motivos de la medida señala que “no empece la inversión millonaria que ha realizado el pueblo de Puerto Rico en los servicios de la señora Donahue, a la fecha de hoy no hay evidencia concreta de que ésta haya logrado los objetivos para los cuales fue contratada”.

St Cloud - Noticias / News Municipio de St. Cloud elimina plantas acuáticas para restaurar el ecosistema St. Cloud, FL – El Municipio de St. Cloud anuncia la aplicación de espray en la vegetación acuática a la orilla del lago de St. Cloud mensualmente este año, para ayudar a controlar plantas acuáticas en el East Lake Tohopekaliga. City of St. Cloud Removes Aquatic Plants to Restore Ecosystem St. Cloud, FL – City of St. Cloud announces aquatic vegetation spraying on a monthly basis this year at the St. Cloud lakefront to help control aquatic plants within East Lake Tohopekaliga, specifically the area known as St. Cloud Beach and the boat basin. These aquatic plants are not native to Florida and are invasive and harmful to the environment. “It is important that we remove these invasive non-native plants from our lakefront,” said Parks and Recreation Director Stephanie Holtkamp. “We have unique aquatic plants that harm our natural environment and we have to remove them regularly to restore our ecosystem. We contract professionals to apply the approved herbicides selectively to avoid harming our native plants and animals. These aquatic herbicides are safe to use. The spraying is safe and does not harm humans or animals.”
City of St. Cloud has an Aquatic Plant Control Permit issued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in effect from Feb. 24, 2016 to Feb. 24, 2019. The permit authorizes the municipality to control aquatic plants within East Lake Tohopekaliga. This is in accordance with certain conditions and locations, specifically about two acres in the boat basin area and about 12.1 acres in the beach area. The City’s contractor is Applied Aquatics. All the chemicals used by the contractor have been approved and authorized by FWC. Signs will be placed in the area to notify residents and visitors when aquatic vegetation spraying is underway. KUA - Noticias / News Globo de recuerdo en cementerio produce apagón en Kissimmee Kissimmee, FL- Un globo dejado en una tumba en el cementerio fue responsable de un apagón el pasado 19 de enero en la tarde, cerca de 1,400 hogares y negocios en Kissimmee se vieron afectados,según informo Kissimmee Utility Authority. El globo se desató de un arreglo floral en la tumba en el Osceola Memory Garden en Old Boggy Creek Rd e hizo contacto con unas líneas de alto voltaje que se encontraban cerca, afectando a 1,354 clientes. El globo se encendió luego de hacer contacto cayendo al suelo en las inmediaciones del Cemeterio Rose Hill en donde comenzó un pequeño fuego en el suelo. El equipo de KUA pudo extinguirlo con rapidez, previniendo así un daño mayor en la propiedad.

Kyle Novak adds the position of race director for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge in 2017 to his existing race director duties for the IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and the IMSA Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama. Novak originally joined IMSA’s Race Control team in 2015 as race director for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America. The 2017 IMSA season gets under way on Jan. 2629 at Daytona International Speedway, highlighted by the four-hour BMW Endurance Challenge for the Continental Tire Challenge on Friday, Jan. 27 and the 55th Rolex 24 At Daytona on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 28-29. FOX Sports will offer 23 hours of live race action from the 2017 Rolex 24 At Daytona, beginning with a three-hour FOX network telecast beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 28.
