Osceola Regional Medical Center Receives Full Level II Trauma Center Designation Kissimmee, FL – Osceola Regional Medical Center has received official designation as a Level II Trauma Center from the Florida Department of Health. Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) officials completed an in-depth review, including an on-site visit to the hospital in March, before issuing approval. In May 2015, the hospital successfully completed AHCA’s initial review phase and was granted Provisional Level II Trauma Center status. Since then, the hospital has accepted Level II trauma patients with critical injuries, such as victims of motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries and penetrating wounds. When emergency medical services personnel respond to critically injured patients, they transport them to the nearest trauma center capable of providing appropriate treatment. Prior to May 2015, many patients in South Orange, Osceola and Polk counties were transported more than 25 miles to the nearest trauma center. The availability of a trauma center in Osceola County reduces transport times for many patients during the “golden hour” – a 60-minute window for bringing patients to a designated trauma center. Multiple studies, including a Sept. 2015 study in the Journal of

the American Medical Association (JAMA) Surgery, show that the sooner care is given within that hour, the better the outcome. Trauma is the leading cause of death among Floridians under the age of 44, and Florida’s death rate for trauma remains higher than the national average. Osceola Regional Medical Center is affiliated with Florida’s first and largest statewide network of trauma centers, developed as an affiliation between the University of South Florida (USF) and HCA to improve access and outcomes of injured patients. These trauma centers provide: •24/7 in-house coverage by a trauma surgeon •24/7 access to specialty and nonspecialty surgeons and physicians •24/7 on-call neurosurgeons •24/7 on-site anesthesia provider, surgical services team and traumatrained nurses Robert Krieger, CEO of Osceola Regional Medical Center, said: “Meeting our community’s urgent need for specialized trauma care has been a tremendous privilege, and we are thankful for the continued opportunity to serve trauma patients and their families.”

NAHJ urges news media to not use the term "illegals" in news coverage As the heated debates over immigration reform and the SCOTUS indecision, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists calls on our nation’s news media to stop using the dehumanizing term “illegals” as a noun to refer to undocumented immigrants. NAHJ has long advocated for accurate terminology in news coverage of immigration. NAHJ is concerned with the increasing use of pejorative terms like “illegals”–which is shorthand for “illegal aliens,” another term NAHJ objects to using–to describe the estimated 12 million undocumented people living in the United States. By incessantly using metaphors like “illegals,” the news media is not only appropriating the rhetoric used by people on a particular side of the issue, but also the implication of something criminal or worthy of suspicion. That helps to predetermine the credibility or respect given to one of the protagonists of this debate, which is not conducive to good journalism and does a disservice to the principles of fairness and neutrality. NAHJ also calls on editors and journalists to follow generally

accepted guidelines regarding race and ethnicity and refrain from reporting a person’s legal status unless it is relevant to the story in question. The public in certain regions of the country have pressured news media to publish the legal status of any Latino who appears in the newspaper or on television, regardless of the story’s subject. Doing so contributes to the growing trend of profiling Latinos as non-Americans or foreigners and using them as scapegoats for a variety of society’s ills, a tone that has become more pervasive in the public dialogue over the past few years. Few now doubt that this helps create a fertile environment for hate speech which we have seen can lead to discrimination and a growing number of hate crimes in the U.S. against Latinos. As the U.S. tackles immigration reform in the future, NAHJ believes that responsible, fair, and non-simplistic coverage of this complex issue is in order. The words used can be part of the problem or can contribute to fair coverage and a fruitful public debate.

16 . El Osceola Star . July 08 - 14, 2016.

Orlando City was defeated by FC Dallas Orlando, FL - Orlando City took on the FC Dallas Monday night in Texas. Orlando's defensive struggles were exposed in the 4-0 loss. To make matters worse, City's offense created only three shots on goal. Saying they were outplayed is an understatement. Joe Bendik continues to prove he is currently Orlando's best asset. Despite 4 goals getting past the goalkeeper, Bendik saved 6 other shots and is continuously nominated for "Save of the Week".

Orlando has the opportunity to win back respect from its teetering fan base. Tonight, the Lions host the Houston Dynamo at home. Win or lose, I expect roster changes to happen before the end of July. Adrian Winter parted ways with the club last week stating he needs to be near his family at this time. While the split was amicable, his departure left a gaping hole in Orlando's midfield. Orlando is still in the playoff race but still has a half a season to play.

Orlando City part ways with Head Coach Adrian Heath “It is always a very difficult decision Orlando, FL – Orlando City SC has agreed to amicably part ways with Head Coach Adrian Heath, effective July 6. Coach Heath has been with the club since its beginnings in Austin, Texas, in 2008. He relocated with the team to Orlando in 2011.

to part ways with a head coach and not one that the Board of Directors has taken lightly. It is even more difficult when that coach has been instrumental in the growth of the Club since its inception over eight years ago. Adrian has served this Club with passion and enthusiasm,” said Orlando City SC Founder & President Phil Rawlins. “This is a very difficult moment, but I fully support the decision made by the Board. I want to thank Adrian for the commitment and hard work he has given our team over the years and wish him success in his career,” said Club Majority Owner Flavio Augusto da Silva. “Now, it’s time for us to turn our focus onto the rest of the season. We will do everything in our power to continue improving and giving our fans the best of us because they have been fantastic supporters." Heath had a tremendous track record with Orlando City, winning two USL Championships and three USL regular season titles. Assistant Head Coach, Mark Watson, has also left the Club by mutual agreement, effective immediately. While the Club conducts a comprehensive search for a new head coach, the team will be led by Assistant Coach Bobby Murphy and Orlando City B Assistant Coach Anthony Pulis.
