Orlando, FL – Rachel Allen, director of Valencia College’s Peace & Justice Institute, has been invited to participate in a United Nations panel discussion about creating and sustaining a culture of peace in our society.

The panel discussion was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on Sept. 5. It is part of the High-Level Forum on the Culture of Peace, which has been held annually since 2012. “The United Nations is committed to creating peace and exchanging ideas for building a culture of peace,” says Allen. “What we are doing locally, by inviting stakeholders from across the Central Florida community to participate in community dialogues, educational workshops and public forums, is an effort to cultivate a culture of peace within our community.” Since 2008, the Peace and Justice Institute at Valencia College has worked to promote a culture of peace and understanding within our community - one where conflict leads to growth and transformation rather than violence or aggression. Each year, the Institute offers a robust calendar of events and courses to students, employees and the public. Through its programming, PJI encourages campus conversations about topics including racial justice, hunger in America, sexual identity, the search for happiness, sustainability, nonviolence, economic inequality and poverty. Outside the college, PJI has

peace in Central Florida. Since 2015, PJI has served as the facilitator for “Orlando Speaks,” a series of interactive workshops designed to foster citizen engagement and dialogue between Orlando residents, the city of Orlando and the Orlando Police Department. In July 2018, the Peace and Justice Institute received a $25,000 grant from the Central Florida Foundation’s Better Together Fund to launch the PJI Academy for Teachers, a weeklong teacher development program for early learning through post-secondary teachers. Earlier this year, PJI led a series of community events throughout Central Florida to address the legacy of the 1920 Ocoee massacre. In 2017, PJI's Legal Education Action Project (LEAP) launched a series of continuing legal education classes designed to teach legal professionals how to skillfully navigate conflict not only with difficult clients, but also with challenging opposing attorneys – with the goal of increasing the level of civility in the legal system. A monstruos event comes to Orlando

Orlando, FL - On Wednesday morning, September 5th, right on the pitch of Camping World Stadium and under the blazing heat of Orlando, it was announced, at a press conference, that a world-class sporting event will come to Orlando in 2019: The Monster Jam World Finals XX, the competition that rewards the Monster Trucks world champion. It will be May 10th and 11th in that same stadium, which already had some models, to the delight of those present, which will be used in the competition. This is the main global event of Monster Jam, an organization that has held competitions in 112 cities in the US and 31 countries around the world, and now comes to Orlando for the most important competition of the year. It is expected to host over 100 thousand fans between both days of the Finals, which will feature a total of 8 competitions, including, for the first time, Monster Trucks races, in addition to the traditional freestyle events. The competition is of men and women, and in fact in the event was

present Candice Jolly, a competitor of Monster Trucks for more than 10 years. Also, there were the brothers Adam and Ryan Anderson, the former and current champions of the Monster Jam World Finals, among other competitors who will return in May 2019. The event was attended by personalities from Central Florida, such as the Mayor of Orange County, Teresa Jacobs, the Mayor of Orlando, Buddy Dyer, the CEO of Central Florida Sports Commission, Jason Siegel, as well as commissioners from Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. When it was his turn to speak, Mayor Dyer said: "We have worked hard to bring sporting events, and I can say that we are the main sports venue in the country." Siegel, minutes later, added to his statement, announcing that Orlando: “…is the main sporting destination in the United States." Ticket sales start on November 1st, and the best part of all is that they announced that the Monster Jam World Finals will return to Camping World Stadium in 2020.
