The first to be developed in Florida, Valencia College’s new Energy Management and Controls Technology degree was designed in consultation with major regional employers, who are trying to fill open positions in the energy management field. City of Kissimmee News Alcalde de la ciudad de Kissimmee, concejales y líderes cristianos emitieron un decreto de 40 días de ayuno y oración Kissimmee, FL - Una proclama decretando 40 días de ayuno y oración en Kissimmee, firmó la Municipalidad, convirtiéndose así, en la primera ciudad que acoge este decreto que se originó en Puerto Rico y que se ha realizado en sus 78 municipios. El grupo de líderes de todas las denominaciones cristianas y comunitarios, estuvieron disponibles para los medios en esta conferencia de prensa, el pasado martes 7 de agosto de 2018, antes de la sesión regular de la Municipalidad de Kissimmee de las 6:00 pm, donde se dio a conocer esta proclama histórica. El alcalde de Kissimmee, José Álvarez, junto a los concejales de la ciudad emitieron este decreto invitando a la comunidad a unirse en este movimiento espiritual. Los pastores Olga González, Comisionada de Kissimmee y Ángel Marcial, Obispo de América Latina y director de los decretos para el estado de la Florida, explicaron que escogieron Kissimmee por ser el corazón de los muchos puertorriqueños e hispanos, convirtiéndose en un sitio estratégico y crucial para empezar esta jornada de oración y que esperan se propague a otros estados de la nación. The mayor of Kissimmee, José Álvarez, together with the councilors of the city issued this decree inviting the community to join in this spiritual movement. Pastors and Kissimmee Commissioner Olga González, and Angel Marcial, Bishop of Latin America and director of the decrees for the state of Florida, explained that they chose Kissimmee as the heart of the many Puerto Ricans and Hispanics, becoming a strategic and crucial place to begin this day of prayer and what they hope will spread to other states of the nation. The decrees have been developed successfully in Puerto Rico, and other countries such as: Ecuador, after the earthquake that shook the country in 2016, the Dominican Republic, in

HHSFMO Scholarship Winners Nueva generación de jóvenes latinos, beneficiados con becas del HHSFMO Orlando, FL - Este 2018 son 18 los jóvenes hispanos becados por el Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando (HHSFMO por sus siglas en ingles), quienes fueron presentados el pasado jueves 9 de agosto a los medios de comunicación, en una ceremonia a la que acudieron los patrocinadores de esta nueva generación de estudiantes, en el Valencia College West Campus. El presidente de la Junta Directiva del HHSFMO, Guillermo Hansen, destacó que más de 337 estudiantes han sido beneficiados a la fecha por este fondo de becas para jóvenes hispanos, con una inversión total de $1,550,000. Recordó que en octubre del año 2000 fue la primera ceremonia, y desde 2003 evolucionó a la organización actual HHSFMO, donde el papel de los patrocinadores ha sido trascendental para construir tantas historias de éxito. Acompañado del Comité de Selección de Becas del HHSFMO, nombró a cada uno de los beneficiados, quienes
posteriormente convivieron con sus respectivos patrocinadores. Por su parte Grace Maseda, de la fundación de apoyo a la educación Helios, animó a los estudiantes a tener la fortaleza y el coraje de destacar en sus estudios. “Ustedes cuentan con una gran oportunidad, de formarse y destacar a favor de ustedes mismos y de su comunidad”, sostuvo. La generación de este año tiene un promedio GPA de 3.5, y están cursando carreras que van desde la ciencia biomédica hasta la ingeniería mecánica y aeroespacial, así como la educación temprana. El 80% de los becados están en áreas de estudio básicas, que les permitirá más adelante una especialización de acuerdo al área elegida. Cinco de ellos son becados nuevamente para dar continuidad a sus estudios. Doce de los 18 jóvenes son nuevos estudiantes Universitarios que inician sus carreras. Los becados originarios o con raíces hispanas, de países como México, Chile, Cuba, Venezuela, Perú, Puerto Rico y Colombia.
New generation of young Latinos, benefited with scholarships from HHSFMO Orlando, FL - There are 18 Hispanic youngsters receiving scholarships from the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando (HHSFMO) in 2018, which was presented to the community on Thursday, August 9, at a ceremony at the Valencia College West Campus. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of HHSFMO, Guillermo Hansen, emphasized that maore than 337 students have been benefited to date by this scholarship fund for young Hispanics, with a total investment of $1,550,000. He recalled that in October 2000 it was the first ceremony, and since 2003 evolved to the current organization HHSFMO, where the role of the sponsors has been transcendental to build so many success stories. Accompanied by the Scholarship Selection Committee of HHSFMO, he named each of the beneficiaries, who subsequently shared with their respective sponsors. For her part
Grace Maseda, from the Helios Education Foundation, encouraged students to have the strength and courage to excel in their studies, and once graduated, as professionals. "You have a great opportunity to train and stand out for yourself and your community," she said. This year's generation has a GPA of 3.5, and are pursuing careers ranging from biomedical science to mechanical and aerospace engineering, as well as early education. 80% of the scholarship holders are in basic study areas, which will later allow them to specialize according to the chosen area. Five of them are scholarships to continue their studies. Twelve of the 18 young people are new University students who start their careers. The scholarship recipients originating or with Hispanic roots, from countries such as Mexico, Chile, Cuba, Venezuela, Peru, Puerto Rico and Colombia.

The event will commence at 6pm at 10100 International Dr., Orlando, FL 32821. The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of CFL is very proud of the accomplishments and contributions of community advocates, professionals and business owners of various industries that are leaders in our community. Premios El Josco will honor nice categories that represent diverse industries that make up the fabric of our business community. As described in the story “El Josco” by Puerto Rican author Abelardo Diaz Alfaro, a Puerto Rican Ox (the main character), represents the people who stand up to challenges and adversity, succeeding in the end; a person who perseveres and fights for what he or she believes in.
The following are the nine categories that will be recognized; Communications, Public Service, Education, Community, Health, Entrepreneurship, The Arts, Professional of the Year and Lifetime Achievement. Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News La policía de Kissimmee necesita ayuda para identificar a sospechosos de robo de vehiculo a mano armada Kissimmee, FL – Oficiales de la policía de Kissimmee están pidiendo la ayuda del público para identificar a dos sospechosos de secuestro de vehículos armados. El 2 de agosto de 2018, una víctima que colocó su vehículo para la venta en el sitio web de ventas por Internet fue contactada por dos sospechosos que pidieron probar conducir el vehículo. La víctima estuvo de acuerdo y se reunió con los compradores/sospechosos en Family Dollar ubicado en 102 S. John Young Parkway en Kissimmee. Kissimmee Police need public’s help identifying armed carjacking suspects Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify two armed carjacking suspects. On August 2, 2018 a victim who posted his vehicle for sale on and internet sales website, was contacted by two suspects who asked to test drive the vehicle. The victim agreed and met up with the buyers/suspects at the Family Dollar located at 102 S. John Young Parkway in Kissimmee. After the test drive was complete, one of the suspects removed a handgun from his waistband, ordered the victim away from the vehicle and fled the scene in the vehicle with a second male suspect. The victim
was not injured during the incident. The vehicle was located, unoccupied on Ernest Street a short time later by police. Video surveillance shows the two male suspects running west on Ernest Street after they parked the stolen vehicle. The Kissimmee Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the two suspects. Anyone with information about the suspects is urged to contact the Kissimmee Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit at 407-846-3333, by e-mail at seeitsayit@kissimmee.org or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Calls made to CRIMELINE remain anonymous and can be eligible for cash rewards.

Armed Robbery Osceola County, FL - On July 18, 2018, at approximately 3:42 P.M., Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Aspenwood Circle in Kissimmee, in reference to an armed robbery. Deputies learned that a grey older model Dodge Charger, stopped alongside the victim and one of the occupants robbed the victim at gun point. After the robbery, the suspect vehicle fled the area towards Florida Parkway in the Buenaventura Lakes neighborhood. The suspects are
described as Hispanic males, in their late teens or early 20’s. The images are surveillance footage of the suspect vehicle. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s help in identifying these suspects. Orlando Magic to play Jazz, Bulls in Mexico City Mexico City - The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Zignia Live announced today that the NBA Mexico City Games 2018 will feature the Orlando Magic playing regular-season games against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, Dec. 13, and against the Utah Jazz on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City. The games will mark the third consecutive season the NBA will play two regularseason games in Mexico City. As part of today’s announcement, the NBA and Zignia Live have also forged a multiyear partnership to collaborate on future games over the next several years in Mexico. The NBA Mexico City Games 2018 will mark the 27th and 28th games in Mexico since 1992, the most NBA games held in any country outside the United States and Canada. In addition to the on-court action, the NBA Mexico City Games 2018 will feature a variety of interactive fan activities, NBA Cares community outreach initiatives and Jr. NBA programming that will bring the NBA experience to fans in Mexico City. In 2017, the NBA played four games in Mexico, which marked the first time the league has held four regular-season games in one country outside the U.S. and Canada in one calendar year. Amway Center’s Disney Atrium, the main entrance for the award-winning, high-tech venue and always a charming site for special occasions, was where the 2018-19 squad was formed. At the end of the event – when 20 of this year’s finalists fulfilled or revived a dream – it was the American legend himself and one of his inspirational quotes that most precisely told the grand story. Walt Disney’s assertion from back in the day was an incredibly fitting slogan on this action-packed night, especially for the six newest additions to the team. Ever since she moved to Orlando nine years ago – a time when she fell in love with the Magic
and the Dancers while taking in the action from her stadium seat during the NBA Finals in 2009 – Kathleen hoped one day she would be able to wear a Magic Dancer costume and perform on the court. Kathleen, now, can share that tale with all her new teammates, including fellow rookie Carolyn, who has a similar story to tell. Born and raised in Orlando, Carolyn looked up to the Magic Dancers when she was young and aspired to be just like them. So, as you could imagine, it’s a dream come true for her to be in the shoes of those she once admired from afar. Even for those who have been down this road before, the energy and enthusiasm of the event and the thrill of finding out they have reclaimed their spot on the team doesn’t fade. Returning team members like Nicole and Desiree, who rejoin the team for a third straight year, are extra eager to get back into the swing of things because of how unique the upcoming season will be.
