Commissioners earn FCF Certified County Commissioner designation Osceola County, FL - Osceola County Commissioners Peggy Choudhry, Viviana Janer and Brandon Arrington earned the Certified County Commissioner (CCC) designation at the recent Florida Association of Counties Annual Conference. Choudhry, Janer and Arrington were three of 39 County Commissioners presented with the certification by The Florida Counties Foundation following completion of a comprehensive study program. Launched in 1996, the Certified County Commissioner Program is a voluntary sequence of study designed for county commissioners to learn information and enhance skills relevant to their duties and responsibilities through a series of courses totaling 45 hours. Since the inception of the program, a total of 459 Florida commissioners have received the CCC designation. The CCC program coursework covers a variety of topics, such as ethics and Sunshine Law, county
government roles and responsibilities, county government structure and authority, financial management, growth management, negotiation skills, economic development, and effective communication. The University of Florida/IFAS Extension sponsors the Foundation’s educational programs. Valencia College and UCF select Director of Community Engagement Orlando, FL - Tanika Bango has been named director of community engagement for the new campus that Valencia College and the University of Central Florida will open in August 2019 in downtown Orlando. As director of community engagement, Bango will build on ongoing efforts to foster relationships with community leaders in Parramore and surrounding neighborhoods, plan community events for the downtown campus and coordinate the work of the Parramore Community Engagement Council. In 2016, the council was established by Valencia, UCF, the city of Orlando, and local residents and businesses, to improve the quality of life in Parramore by focusing on five key areas: jobs, health, education, safety and affordable housing.
Bango brings more than 10 years of experience in community and government service, both as chief of staff for Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill (who represents Parramore) and as an aide in the Florida Senate. Born and raised in Orlando, Bango earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Edward Waters College in Jacksonville and a law degree from Barry University. In addition to the Parramore Community Engagement Council, UCF and Valencia are engaged with one of Orange County’s newest K-8 schools in the Parramore community. The OCPS Academic Center for Excellence is a Community Partnership School, which pairs the school with Valencia, UCF, Children’s Home Society of Florida and other organizations to provide wraparound services, including health and dental care, for its students.

The Independence Day activities kicked-off with a naturalization ceremony at the Bexar County Courthouse in San Antonio, Texas on June 28. During this event, USCIS Director L. Francis Cissna delivered congratulatory remarks to 37 new Americans. Floridians with disabilities should register with their local emergency management agency Orlando, FL - After a record hurricane season in 2017, most Floridians are hoping for a calm summer. While none of us can control nature, all of us can be ready to weather even the strongest storm. Every Floridian needs to prepare for hurricane season and that includes people with disabilities and access and functional needs. Disasters affect everyone but some—like seniors, people with chronic conditions, the economically disadvantaged, and those with access or functional needs—are often disproportionally affected. The Florida Division of Emergency Management partnered with every local emergency management agency in the state to create a registry so residents with disabilities or access
and functional needs can receive assistance during a disaster. Floridians can register with their local emergency management agency through the Florida Special Needs Registry. The statewide registry provides first responders with valuable information to prepare for disasters or other emergencies. Registration is free and confidential. Information you offer will only be used to plan for and provide services during a disaster. Las estrellas se mueven Uno de los mejores jugadores de la historia de su deporte cambiará de equipo este verano. Después de mucho tiempo en su club, al cual perteneció tanto tiempo y lo llevó a tantas glorias, es hora de cambiar rumbos para la recta final de su carrera a sus 33 años. Me refiero, al mismo tiempo, a dos de los atletas más grandes que he tenido la dicha de presenciar: Cristiano Ronaldo y LeBron James. El primero, portugués, dejará al tricampeón de Europa, el Real Madrid, para alistarse a la Vieja Señora del Calcio: la Juventus de Turín. El segundo portará el tercer jersey de su carrera, por primera vez en la Conferencia Oeste, en la franquicia más glamorosa y llamativa de toda la NBA: los Lakers de Los Ángeles. Entre todas las coincidencias que encontramos entre la carrera de “el comandante” y “el rey”, podemos enlistar la edad, la constante lucha por ser el mejor de la historia, los detractores, la competencia (Messi/Kobe), y el ser los dos atletas mejor pagados y con más ganancias en
todo el mundo, ahora hay que sumarle que, en espacio de una semana, todo el mundo del deporte estuvo al pendiente de la decisión que tomaba. En el caso de CR7, su salida significa una menor presión para el jugador, en una liga como la Serie A donde la exigencia (hoy por hoy) es menor que la de La Liga. Llega a un club que ha ganado 7 Scudettos y 4 Coppas Italia consecutivas, pero que se ha quedado en la orilla del trofeo más preciado, la Champions League (y los dos últimos años a manos de Ronaldo, precisamente). Aunque no es el Real Madrid, la Juve tiene jugadores de clase mundial que acompañarán a Cristiano (Dybala, Douglas Costa, Pjanic, Mandzukic, Cuadrado, e incluso, si se queda, Higuaín). Para la Juventus, Cristiano significa seguir el dominio en Italia por muchos años más y aspirar nuevamente a ganar la Champions. Para el Real Madrid, ese espacio en
la plantilla seguramente será llenado por alguna otra estrella, no tan grande como Ronaldo (eso es casi imposible), pero de renombre mundial (Neymar, Mbappé, Lewandowski, Hazard). Because it not only changes the color of the jersey, but the future of the sport in the years to come. In CR7’s case, his exit means less pressure for him, in a league like Serie A less demanding (today) than La Liga. He arrives at a club that has won 7 consecutive Scudettos and 4 Coppas Italia but has remained on the edge of the most precious trophy, the Champions League (and the last two years at the hands of Ronaldo, precisely). If we focus on James, his signing means, if no other All-Star players arrive, that his 4th ring will have to wait a few years. The Lakers are a young and rebuilding team that will barely tickle the Warriors in the West. It's a huge quality jump for the 16-time champion franchise, which may be good enough for a 2nd round exit of the playoffs. The Cavaliers, without LeBron, will begin the long process of reconstruction, and forget about reaching the Finals for a 5th consecutive year.

" Ser Colombia provided resources in support of the "Michu Mau" organization dedicated to help burned children, based in Mexico, and "My First Steps", dedicated to the care of children who suffer abuse, based in Puerto Rico. Margarita Parra, president of "Ser Colombia" granted the two checks, the first to the Consul of Communities, Agustín Gutierrez, who will be in charge of getting these resources to the organization Michu Mau, and the second to Sariel Febo, of Latin Community Health Advancers, representing "My First Steps". In this emotive delivery, Margarita Parra explained that on May 12, the “Moda Latina” fashion parade was held, within the traditional Fiesta a las Madres, which is held every year. In Moda Latina, 11 designers from different countries exhibited models of clothing, shoes and jewelry of their creation, to the benefit of these noble causes. Accompanied by the Consul of Mexico in Orlando, Juan Sabines, the president of "Ser Colombia" thanked the Consulate team for its support of this event and announced that in 2019 the third edition will be held. "We are interested in helping, especially children," he said. For his part, the Consul Juan Sabines, thanked the organizers of the Fiesta to the Mothers and the fashion event to benefit, the thinking of Mexico, to help children who suffer burns resulting from an accident. Both the organization "Michu Mau" and "My First Steps" received $1,000 respectively, to help their causes. Since 2002, the Firecracker 250 has been the opening racing event to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series' Coke Zero Sugar 400. The drivers race for 250 miles (100laps) reaching speeds close to 200mph and come within inches of the cars next to them. Once again, the race ended in dramatic fashion. Kyle Larson driving a Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet Camaro, won with a controversial finish. Elliott Sadler and Larson were battling it out against one another and crossed the line with milliseconds between them. While Larson and Sadler were wheel to wheel, Justin Haley made a swift overtake to take first place by taking the inside lane, however, as he made the overtake his car touched the yellow lines,
which, according to NASCAR rules is illegal and the race was awarded to Larson. Haley was sent to the back of the grid and finished in 18th place. The following day, July 7th, 2018, proved to be just as spectacular as the Firecracker 250 and race fans were not left disappointed. One of NASCAR’s most anticipated racing events, the Coke-Zero 400, brought together a racing event like no other. The race started at 7pm and finished late in the evening, the race was 400 miles in length (160-laps) and consisted of 40 cars racing side by side. Due to two overtimes, the race, scheduled for 160 laps, was extended to 168 laps. The Coke-Zero 400 was filled with huge crashes, which continuously changed the racing environment. From under the lights of Daytona International Speedway, Erik Jones, driving the No. 20 for Joe Gibbs Racing, won the race. The race went from having 40 cars racing to 20, Jones’ skillful driving managed to avoid the wrecks and crossed the line to earn himself his first career Monster Energy Cup Series victory.
