University of Puerto Rico and University of Central Florida sign Collaboration Agreement La Fortaleza, San Juan - The University of Puerto Rico (UPR) announced the signing of a Collaboration Agreement (MOU) with the Research Foundation of the University of Central Florida (UCF, for its acronym in English) and the Kissimmee City Council for the development of business incubators in Puerto Rico. The interim president of the UPR, Darrel Hillman, informed that this agreement establishes initiatives to promote academic, research and training experiences among the faculty, the student body and the administrative staff of both universities. The agreement, which was signed in the presence of Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, establishes that UCF and UPR are committed to combining efforts to improve their scientific, academic and training collaboration; this includes exchanges of teachers and students, seminars and knowledge exchanges, as well as professional development for professors, graduate students and post-graduates in the UCF Business Incubator Program (UCFBIP, for its acronym in English). "Today is an important day because the necessary collaboration between two important university institutions is formalized to contribute to the economic development that our Island so badly needs," said Governor Ricardo Roselló. For his part, the Secretary of State, Luis Gerardo Rivera Marín, recalled that, during the month of August of last year, an MOU was signed between the Government of Puerto Rico and UCF, to promote and develop economic activity in the state of Florida and in Puerto Rico, through the UCFBIP. The interim secretary of the Interior also added that "thus, the agenda of Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, to continue establishing innovative projects, to develop more opportunities for the preparation of students of UPR to develop their ideas in independent and successful businesses is advanced.

The purpose is to turn an idea into an achievable business". With the agreement signed today between UPR and UCF, the initiative of the Government of Puerto Rico is formalized with UCF, which arises as a result of the initial agreement, under the signature of Dr. Thomas O'Neal, vice president and executive director of UCFBIP in the summer of 2017 The launching of this agreement had to be postponed due to the passage of hurricanes Irma and María last September. As part of the agreement, UCF and the Government of Puerto Rico are committed to achieving this goal, increasing the participation of entrepreneurs and innovators, from both jurisdictions, in the UCFBIP, so that they benefit from training, tools, assistance, resources and networks provided by UCF's initiatives to handle challenges and requirements in order to turn an idea into a scalable business across state and national boundaries. The Business Incubator Program of the University of Central Florida is an alliance for economic development designed to help create and maintain jobs in the community and stimulate economic growth throughout the region. Since 1999, the program has helped more than 350 start-up companies, which have supported nearly 3,700 jobs throughout Central Florida. These companies have also had a total impact on the regional economic product of $ 2,400 million. The UCFBIP is an initiative driven by the university and the community that includes UCF, the Florida High Tech Corridor Council, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties, and the cities of Apopka, Kissimmee, Orlando and Winter. Springs During the last fiscal year, the UCFBIP -funded with public funds- generated $ 7.95 for every $ 1 invested.

The handbook can be downloaded from KUA’s website at www.kua.com/ hurricane. Printed copies of the handbook are available in the lobby of KUA’s customer

Early season heat wave spikes power consumption by 21% Kissimmee, FL - Summer doesn’t arrive until June 21, but temperatures make it feel like the seasons have already changed. An early season heat wave combined with a lack of afternoon thunderstorms has forced residential and commercial air conditioners to work overtime, resulting in a surge in electricity use in Kissimmee on Monday. As temperatures rise, so does demand for air conditioning. Energy demand on Monday reached 360 megawatts — 21 percent higher than last week’s average. The increase in electricity use will likely lead to higher power bills for utility customers in the coming weeks.

KUA offers these energy-saving tips that require little or no expense and can help to reduce energy costs:

* Set the thermostat on the highest comfortable setting (KUA recommends 78-80 degrees). Raising the temperature just two degrees can reduce cooling costs by as much as five percent. * Use oscillating and ceiling fans instead of lowering the thermostat setting – but remember to turn them off when you’re not in the room. * Close blinds, shades or drapes during the hottest part of the day to block the sun’s heat. * Remember that window air conditioning units generally are not designed to cool more than one room. * Clean or replace window unit or central air conditioning system filters monthly. Dirty filters cause air conditioners to work harder and use more energy.

Osceola residents urged to prepare for mosquito season but it significantly reduces the threat Osceola County, FL - When you live in Florida you can count on rain – eventually. All droughts end, and when they do, the rains come – followed by mosquitoes and the potential diseases these pests can carry. For residents, acting starts with weekly yard inspections, something that may have fallen by the wayside during a dry spring. The purpose of the walkabout is to spot standing water. Some common items that often contain water include tarps, dog bowls, planters, dishes, garbage cans and lids. The list is practically endless and can include items as small as a bottle cap. Everyone should dump all standing water in items that can be turned over and hose out those that can’t, such as a concrete bird bath. Eliminating mosquito breeding sites in and around your home not only makes outdoor living more enjoyable

of disease transmission. Additionally, when enjoying the outdoors, it is important that we protect ourselves. Much like sunscreen, insect repellant is the new norm for outdoor living. There are many types and kinds suitable for most lifestyles, just follow the direction on the product label and keep you and your family safe this season. Osceola County Mosquito Control has been actively doing its part. All winter long, staff has been preparing public areas and treating swamps and other large potential breeding sites in anticipation of rain. All equipment has been run through preventative maintenance and is ready for battle with this menace to health. State funding has allowed Osceola County Mosquito Control to purchase much-needed equipment and diversify its supplies.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is threatened by the risks of oil drilling By Brent Probinsky Sarasota, FL - A little-known provision of the December 2017 Republican tax bill opened the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to the dangers of oil and gas drilling. The refuge is 19 million acres, the size of South Carolina and the most spectacular and pristine natural area remaining in the world. To secure the vote of Alaska’s congressional delegation, Senator Lisa Murkowski, the Trump administration placed at risk the largest protected wilderness in the U.S., a dazzling natural area containing the 9,000-foot high Brooks Range of northern Alaska and adjacent coastal plain that reaches north to the Beaufort Sea. It’s home to 37 species of land mammals, 8 species of whales, Arctic Ringed Seals and Polar Bear, 200 species of migratory birds and the famed herd of 120,000 Porcupine Caribou that each June and July, migrate 1,500 miles across the refuge to their ancient calving grounds. The most environmentally sensitive area within the refuge is the 1.5 million acres coastal plain, considered the biological heart of the Refuge, known as Section 1002. That’s exactly where oil companies want to drill. The public and interested groups have until June 19 to submit their opinions to the Bureau of Land Management about the proposed oil and gas leases in the refuge to assist in the creation of an Environmental Impact Statement. House Democrats introduced legislation to close the refuge to drilling. Rep. Jared Huffman of California said, “Although Republicans in Congress snuck a dangerous drilling provision into their 2017 tax bill, it’s not too late to keep the drills out of this iconic landscape.” In more benign environments than the Arctic, such as the Gulf of Mexico, oil and gas drilling still risk massive oil spills, destruction of marine ecosystems and damage to coastal areas. The BP Deepwater Horizon in 2010 spewed 200 million gallons of crude oil into the warm Gulf waters and yet it took five months to cap the gushing undersea well in a mild climate with company engineers, ships and equipment close by. The Arctic’s unforgiving climate and remoteness, where advancing sea

ice can crush oil rigs like match sticks and equipment to contain oil spills are difficult to ready and deploy, make the prospects of an oil spill in the Arctic an environmental disaster of unimaginable magnitude. The difficulty of developing Artic oil and natural gas makes it 50% to 100% more expensive than in Texas. The U.S. is consuming 20 million barrels of oil a day of which half is domestically produced, in large part to the sharp increase of hydraulic fracking of oil and gas reserves that were previously thought to be technically and economically unrecoverable. There is no need to open the ecologically sensitive Refuge to drilling. The US Geologic Survey estimated a mean average of 10.4 billion barrels of technically recoverable oil and gas in the coastal plain of the Refuge. The rest of the U.S. has 120 billion barrels of technically recoverable crude oil. The estimated world proved oil and gas reserves are between 1.1 and 1.3 trillion barrels. The U.S. Department of Energy predicts that oil production in the Refuge would amount to only .04 and 1.2 percent of total oil consumption in 2030 and would not have any significant effect on world oil prices. Jaime Williams, President of the Wilderness Society said, “The Trump Administration is pursuing an irresponsibly aggressive timeline for Artic Refuge drilling that reflects the Administration’s eagerness to turn over the public lands to private industrial development.” Arctic temperatures are heating at a rate much faster than the rest of the planet and global warming has caused Arctic sea ice to decline by 355,000 square miles from 1981 to 2010, an area twice the size of California. When we should be moving to renewable energy sources like solar and wind instead of carbon emitting fossil fuels that heat the planet, it is the ultimate irony that the survival of Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would be threatened, not only by the risks of drilling, but by global warming pumped from oil and gas rigs located there. Brent Probinsky is a lawyer in Sarasota, Florida.

ET.

Legge, Farnbacher score victory for Acura in Detroit Katherine Legge had a lot going on in the last week. It was only a week ago that Legge got the word that her No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing w/ Curb-Agajanian Acura NSX GT3 would be running in the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic. Then she had a new co-driver in Mario Farnbacher as usual teammate, Alvaro Parente, had a prior commitment and was unable to join her in Detroit. The result of all of this was a victory for the pair – and a first of the year for Acura - in the GT Daytona (GTD) class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Saturday on Belle Isle. The victory comes exactly one year after Legge and her then-co-driver, Andy Lally, for Meyer Shank Racing delivered the first global victory for the Acura NSX GT3. Farnbacher is also a former GTD winner at the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, winning in 2015 with Alex Job Racing in a Porsche 911 GT America. Legge qualified the car in second place for the 100-minute sprint race and pressured Sellers in the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 throughout her driving stint. However, it was pit strategy that proved to be the determining factor for the final race results. The No. 86 and its sister Acura racecar – the No. 93 of Lawson Aschenbach and Justin Marks, which was running third before pit stops – both chose to take two tires, while the No. 48 swapped all four Continentals. The move put closing drivers Farnbacher and Aschenbach ahead of Madison Snow in the No. 48 and the lineup would remain the same for the rest of the race. With the victory and two runner-up finishes in four races this

year, Legge continues to climb in the fight for the GTD championship. She now stands alone in second place for the standings with 122 points, three points behind leaders Sellers and Madison Snow – who also kept alive Paul Miller Racing’s podium streak, finishing in the top three at each of the four GTD races thus far in 2018 with a thirdplace finish. Fourth place went to the No. 33 Mercedes-AMG Team Riley Motorsports pair of Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen while the No. 63 WeatherTech Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 of Cooper MacNeil and Jeff Segal were fifth. The first GT Daytona (GTD) victory by Acura comes one race after the manufacturer won its first WeatherTech Championship Prototype race with the No. 7 Acura Team Penske DPi – driven by Ricky Taylor and Helio Castroneves at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship reaches the halfway point of the season with its next race at Watkins Glen International. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is the third of four endurance races for the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup, which sees a tie between the No. 86 of Legge and Parente – with endurance teammate Trent Hindman – and Sellers and Snow for second place. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will see the return of all three WeatherTech Championship classes on June 28 – July 1, as the GT Le Mans class took a one-race hiatus at Detroit for teams to prep for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in two weeks. The race broadcast begins on FS1 at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Alejandro Fernandez & Los Tigres Del Norte “Rompiendo Fronteras Tour 2018” As part of "Rompiendo Fronteras World Tour 2018", Los Tigres Del Norte join Alejandro Fernández with the main purpose of bringing to our Mexican brothers and Latino community that live in the United States, the music that connects our hearts regardless of time or distance, the music that breaks boundaries... Especially to all Mexicans and Latinos who have not been able to see their families for years, as it is the case of many "Dreamers", who are alone since their parents were deported or those who were persecuting the "American Dream", but Mexico keeps beating really strong in their hearts. Super star Alejandro Fernandez, whose celebrated live shows combine spellbinding performances of pop and ranchera, will tour this summer and fall with the legendary Los Tigres del Norte in what promises to be one of the hottest tours of the year. ROMPIENDO FRONTERAS TOUR 2018, produced by CMN Events, will take place on Sunday, August 26 at the Amway Center. Alejandro Fernandez latest album, 2017’s Rompiendo Fronteras vaulted to the top of the charts, making it his sixth #1 album in an extraordinary career. The album has produced hit singles, including “Se Que Te Duele,” “Quiero Que Vuelvas”, and the acclaimed collaboration with Los Tigres del Norte, “Para Sacarte De Mi Vida”, which they

performed live on 2018’s Premios Lo Nuestro. Over the years, Alejandro has collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart, his father Vicente Fernandez, and in what was one of the most exciting vocal combinations of all time, with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras for The Three Tenors. Alejandro has sold over 30 million albums, won two Latin Grammy Awards, the Billboard Hall of Fame Award and was awarded with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Los Tigres del Norte have been champions of ‘the people’ in their music, and many of their most popular songs consist of tales or corridos about life, love, and the struggle to survive in an imperfect world. Born in Mexico, but raised in San Jose, CA, they have released 51 albums since 1968 and together, the band and its public has turned norteño music into an international genre. They have 7 Grammy Awards, 6 Latin Grammy Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Los Tigres are politically active and socially conscious and received the Special Recognition Award at the 26th annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2015, for their song "Era Diferente,” The band ranked at number 15 in the list for "The 30 Most Influential Latin Artists of All Time" by Billboard magazine.
