Casa de México Orlando Conferencia de prensa Gala Casa de México Orlando, FL - Este lunes, 10 de septiembre, en el Consulado de México en Orlando se anunció oficialmente la tradicional Gala de Casa de México, que este 2018 cumple 15 años de celebrar la cultura mexicana en Florida Central, y que para su éxito cuenta con el respaldo de autoridades locales, organizaciones latinas, empresas patrocinadoras, y por supuesto de la comunidad. El Comisionado de la Ciudad de Orlando, Tony Ortiz, expresó que con eventos como el de la Gala de Casa de México, se reanuda la relación con la comunidad hispana, no importando su estatus migratorio, ya que en el país “se viven tiempos difíciles de división”, por lo que “mientras sigamos trabajando juntos no importa quien trate de separarnos”. Resaltó que el Alcalde de la Ciudad de Orlando, Buddy Dyer, apoya la “inclusión”, y agregó “tenemos una gran diversidad” en esta ciudad, por eso –dijo-- tiene orgullo de apoyar la causa de Casa de México. “Estamos 200 por ciento con ustedes y no podemos esperar a celebrar la Gala”. Por su parte el Cónsul de México en Orlando, Juan Sabines recordó a Blanquita Trabold, directora ejecutiva de Casa de México, quien dejó un legado de servicio a favor de la comunidad mexicana, sobre todo en servicios médicos para quienes más lo necesitan. “Felicidades por volver a tomar esta propuesta que hace muchos años fundaron con Guillermo Hansen, Ricky Debler, y Linda Landman González, “me emociona mucho que retomen el espíritu de Blanquita Trabold, que podamos volver a esa historia de éxito”, sostuvo el Cónsul Sabines.
Jorge Becerra, en nombre de Casa de México, acompañado de Federico Hollander de la junta directiva de esta organización, explicó que el objetivo es promover la cultura mexicana y al mismo tiempo apoyar un programa de becas para niños y jóvenes mexicanos e hispanos, al tiempo de agradecer a los auspiciadores que apoyan esta causa. “Queremos que el mundo conozca que México tiene valores, qué la comunidad hispana en Florida Central es grande”. Informó que este año se presentará en la Gala de Casa de México “Bring out your colors” el Ballet Folklórico México y el Mariachi Cobre, el 29 de septiembre en Dr. Phillips Center a las 7:30 pm, en cuyas taquillas se pueden adquirir los boletos para este evento a beneficio de las causas de Casa de México. El director de Asuntos Culturales de la Ciudad de Orlando, Luis Martínez enfatizó la importancia de la cultura para la comunidad y resaltó la labor de Blanquita Trabold (QEPD), que inició el Camino de Casa de México, y que ahora continúa con el trabajo y emoción de la comunidad. Gala Conference Casa de México Orlando, FL - On Monday, September 10, at the Mexican Consulate in Orlando, the traditional Casa de México Gala was officially announced. This 2018 marks 15 years of celebrating Mexican culture in Central Florida, and for its success it counts with the support of local authorities, Latino organizations, sponsoring companies, and the community. The Commissioner of the City of Orlando, Tony Ortiz, said that with events such as the Gala of Casa de Mexico, the relationship with the Hispanic community, no matter your immigration status, is being resumed, since in the country "difficult times of division is something happening now". “So as long as we continue working together it does not matter who tries to separate us". Osceola County, FL - Sheriff Russ Gibson and the Osceola County Sheriff's Office are offering the first Basic Academy of Citizens in Spanish. This academy is designed to educate and provide our citizens with a better understanding of what their sheriff's office is. This academy was offered for many years in English, but due to the large Hispanic population in Osceola County, Sheriff Gibson saw that it was important to offer this academy exclusively in Spanish. Participants at the Citizens Academy will learn about the different aspects of law enforcement and the many departments that make up the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, such as; the Agriculture and Marine Unit, Aggressive Traffic Unit, Teen Drivers, Motorized Unit, Canine Unit

Orlando, FL - Starting September 15th, 2018 all Goodwill Job Connection Centers will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. In addition to 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday hours.
Las nuevas horas tienen como objetivo llegar a aquellas personas que no puedan buscar asistencia durante la semana laboral estándar, residentes que no pueden recibir ayuda de Goodwill porque trabajan de lunes a viernes. Esto nos permitirá brindar nuestros servicios importantes a un mayor número de personas y ayudar a construir vidas que funcionen.
The new hours aim to reach those individuals who may not be able to seek assistance during the standard work week, residents who can’t receive help from Goodwill because they work Monday to Friday. This will allow us to provide our important services to a greater number of individuals, and help to build lives that work!

Valencia College rememora el 11 de septiembre Kissimmee, FL - Este martes se realizó la Ceremonia en Memoria del 11 de septiembre en el Osceola Campus de Valencia College, donde se desplegaron 2,983 banderas para recordar a quienes perdieron la vida en los ataques terroristas en 2001 y en honor de los hombres y mujeres de los sistemas de emergencia que se arriesgaron para salvar vidas. En este memorial, participaron autoridades, líderes de opinión y de la comunidad de Osceola, así como la comunidad estudiantil de Valencia, quienes eran aún niños cuando ocurrió la tragedia. Luego de las emotivas notas del himno nacional y de la presentación de la bandera de las barras y las estrellas, el Congresista Darren Soto, representante de Florida por el 9o Distrito, recordó a las víctimas, y llamó a la unidad, citando el juramento a la bandera.
Por su parte el Sheriff de Osceola, Russ Gibson, resaltó la grandeza de Estados Unidos, "veamos todo lo que somos y todo lo que hemos logrado" sostuvo emocionado. Se escuchó la campana, la trompeta de duelo y se presentaron coronas de flores por parte de la comunidad de los sistemas de emergencia y de alumnos de Valencia College. El capellán Hugh Lollis fue el encargado de una oración final, por las familias de las víctimas, los sobrevivientes y por todo el pueblo diverso de los Estados Unidos. Al final los asistentes pudieron recorrer el campo de banderas, donde además de las cientos de banderas de Estados Unidos, se colocaron banderas de las víctimas y rescatistas de los diferentes países que vivieron ese inolvidable 11 de septiembre de 2001.
Valencia College remembers September 11 Kissimmee, FL - This Tuesday the Ceremony in Memory of September 11 was held at the Osceola Campus of Valencia College, where 2,983 flags were displayed to remember those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in 2001, also honoring the men and women of the systems of emergency that risked their lives to save others. In this memorial, authorities, opinion leaders and the community of Osceola participated, as well as the student community of Valencia, who were still children when the tragedy occurred.
Osceola Sheriff, Russ Gibson, highlighted the greatness of the United States, "let's see everything we are and everything we have achieved," he said excitedly. The bell was heard, the dueling trumpet and flower crowns were presented by the community of emergency response systems and students of Valencia College. Chaplain Hugh Lollis was in charge of a final prayer, for the families of the victims, the survivors and all the diverse people of the United States. At the end the attendees were able to tour the field of flags, where in addition to the hundreds of flags of the United States, flags of victims and rescuers from different countries who lived that unforgettable September 11, 2001 were placed.

Hispanic Heritage Month Festival Cultural de Guanajuato México Kissimmee, FL - El fin de semana, Kissimmee se llenó de fiesta, música y cultura, con el Festival Guanajuato MX, organizado por Colectivo ÁRBOL y el Club Migrante Guanajuatense De Paisano a Paisano. El sábado 8 de septiembre en la Plaza del Sol se reunieron decenas de artistas de baile folclórico mexicano, dentro de los que destacó el Ballet de Guanajuato, y diversos grupos con bailables de diferentes estados de la República Mexicana. Isaret Jeffers, VP de Colectivo ÁRBOL y principal activista del estado de Guanajuato en Florida Central, agradeció a los auspiciadores
que respaldaron el evento, en especial al Gobierno del Estado de Guanajuato, que envío el Ballet y a los artistas para el éxito de este Festival. Por parte del Consulado de México en Orlando, asistió el Cónsul de Comunidades Agustín Gutiérrez, quien recibió un obsequio, a manera de reconocimiento de parte del Estado de Guanajuato. Orlando, FL - Last Wednesday, September 12, 2018, the celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month in Orlando began. The Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15 and recognizes the culture and traditions of residents of the United States, ascending from Spain, Mexico and countries of Central America. Tallahassee, FL - Mientras el huracán Florence se fortalece y amenaza la costa sureste de Estados Unidos, el gobernador Scott habló con el gobernador de Georgia Nathan Deal, el gobernador de Carolina del Norte Roy Cooper y el gobernador de Virginia Ralph Northam para ofrecer recursos y asistencia. Florence strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane on September 10th and is forecast to impact the southeastern U.S. coast later this week. While Florida is not forecast to experience major impacts from Florence, Governor Scott is urging Floridians to remain vigilant and get prepared. According to the current National Weather Service forecast, the primary impact for Florence to Florida will be extremely dangerous surf conditions including life-threatening rip currents along the east coast.

More than 1,100 Duke Energy Florida crews to depart for Carolinas Energy is moving power restoration Orlando, FL – On September 12th, 2018 more than 1,100 Duke Energy Florida operation personnel, including contractors, line workers, tree professionals, damage assessment and support personnel departed from the Duke Energy operations centers located at Tampa Bay and Winter Garden. In advance of Hurricane Florence, Duke
crews from its Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky utilities so that they are staged in the Carolinas and ready to help the company's Carolinas-based crews restore power as soon as it is safe to do so. Duke Energy Florida is sending more than 1,100 employees and contractors to support the restoration of anticipated widespread power outages that are likely in North Carolina and South Carolina as a result of the storm. Florida crews will initially be staged in Florence, SC and will be deployed into the areas they’re needed. An additional 1,000 personnel resources from Duke Energy’s Midwest region will also be deploying to the Carolinas. The company also is working with the Southeastern Electric Exchange to secure additional crews from other energy companies to assist.

Sheriff - Noticias / News Arresto por abuso sexual a un niño Condado Osceola, FL - El 5 de septiembre de 2018, la oficina del sheriff del Condado Osceola recibió un informe sobre un niño de 12 años, posiblemente víctima de abuso sexual por parte de un vecino. Los agentes se pusieron en contacto con la víctima que reveló que, Juan Efraín Navarro (DOB 07-27-39), lo tocó de manera inapropiada mientras estaba en la propiedad de la iglesia ubicada en 3321 Morningside Drive en Kissimmee (Iglesia Cristiana Luz de Salvación). Se estableció contacto con Juan Navarro que es Diácono en este lugar y mantiene la propiedad y vive en la propiedad de la iglesia. Navarro cooperó con la investigación y admitió haber cometido agresión sexual y actos lascivos contra la víctima de 12 años de edad, desde mayo de 2018. Navarro fue arrestado

Sexual Battery on a Child- Arrest Osceola County, FL - On September 5, 2018, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a 12-year-old child, possibly being the victim of sexual abuse by a neighbor. Contact was made with Juan Navarro who is a Deacon at this location and maintains the property
and lives on church property. Navarro cooperated with the investigation and admitted to committing sexual battery and lewd acts on the 12-year-old victim, since May of 2018. Navarro was arrested on 4 counts Capital Sexual Battery, 4 Counts of Lewd/Lascivious Molestation, and 6 Counts of Lewd/ Lascivious Battery. Shooting Investigation on World Drive Osceola County, FL - On September 3, 2018, at approximately 4:00 P.M. the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to World Drive near I4 in reference to a shooting. Deputies discovered two people with apparent gunshot wounds. They have been identified as Fatima Montero of Land O Lakes, FL and Jorge Luis Garcia of Tampa, FL. Detectives learned the couple was driving on World Drive when an argument ensued. Garcia pulled out a handgun and shot Montero as she
drove. Montero stopped the vehicle and got out where she summoned passersby for help and later collapsed on the roadway. Garcia moments later turned the gun on himself and suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both were taken to area hospitals where Montero is currently in stable condition and Garcia is in critical condition. We encourage anyone facing possible domestic violence situations to seek the help necessary and avoid putting their safety and their family’s safety at risk.

Van Overbeek started the car from the rear of the Prototype grid as he missed Saturday’s qualifying session due to illness, and he managed to avoid an opening-lap incident that removed the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-V. R driven by Joao Barbosa before the starting line and damaged several other cars. Van Overbeek pitted to turn the car over to Derani just 22 minutes into the race. After a restart following the race’s third full-course caution just 46 minutes into the race, Derani spun in Turn 2, but his Nissan DPi avoided serious damage. The Brazilian methodically worked his way forward following the spin, moving into the top five for the first time an hour and eight minutes into the race and staying there for most of the remainder of the race.
