City of Kissimmee Abre el proceso de Inscripción para la Escuela de Gobierno de la ciudad Kissimmee, FL - La Escuela de Gobierno de la Ciudad de Kissimmee (School of Government) acepta a nuevos estudiantes para la sesión de ocho semanas que comienza el jueves, 20 de septiembre. Este programa educativo, coordinado por la Oficina de Comunicación y Asuntos Públicos, es para explicar en detalle la forma del gobierno de la Ciudad de Kissimmee y así educar a los residentes sobre las operaciones diarias y servicios disponibles a nivel local. Esta escuela también provee una mirada de primera mano de las operaciones de la Ciudad que sirven como una base para aquellas personas interesadas en estar más involucrados en la Ciudad. La Ciudad está en busca de 28 estudiantes que quieran participar de este curso de ocho semanas, y que termina con una graduación el jueves, 8 de noviembre. Las clases son semanales y comienzan a las 5:30 de la tarde hasta las 8:00 de la noche. Los estudiantes deberán firmar una hoja de relevo para poder participar de ciertas actividades. City’s School of Government 2018 Registration now open Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee’s School of Government is now accepting new students for the eight-week session starting on Thursday, September 20. This civic education program, coordinated by the Communications & Public Affairs Office, is an effort to explain the City of Kissimmee’s form of government and
enlighten residents about the daily operations and services provided on the local government level. This also provides a firsthand look at the City’s operations to set the foundation for residents who are interested in becoming more involved in the City. The City is currently seeking 28 students to participate in this eightweek course that ends with a graduation on Thursday, November 8. Each class starts at 5:30 p.m.
and runs through 8:00 p.m., and due to certain activities, students interested must fill and sign a release and waiver to participate. The registration for the School of Government is now open and applications are available online and in-person when visiting City Hall. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando and Prospera presented a workshop in Puerto Rico Orlando, FL - The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) and Prospera presented a workshop in Puerto Rico for business owners who wish to expand their businesses to Florida. The workshop is a result of collaborative efforts with the Puerto Rico Trade and Export Company, led by Ricardo Llerandi. More than 300 people attended the workshop “Expande tu Negocio a la Florida” (Expand Your Business to Florida), the workshop provided essential information about different Central Florida resources and opportunities available for Puerto Ricans to expand their businesses or export their services and products to the Sunshine State. Among the topics presented were financial assessment, business plans, legal structure, business regulations, market demographics, effective sales planning, and access to capital for Puerto Rican companies to consider when expanding to Florida, as well as a panel on Central Florida economic development and business opportunities comprised of representatives from the City of Orlando, City of St. Cloud and Orange County.

El gobernador Scott: FDOT comienza el proceso para el tren de alta velocidad con financiación privada desde Orlando a Tampa Tallahassee, FL - El gobernador Rick Scott anunció que el Departamento de Transporte de la Florida (FDOT por sus siglas en inglés) ha comenzado el proceso para permitir la inversión privada en una conexión ferroviaria de alta velocidad desde Orlando a Tampa. FDOT y la Autoridad de Autopistas de Florida Central (CFX por su siglas en inglés) recibieron una propuesta no solicitada para alquilar propiedades del estado y CFX para construir un tren de alta velocidad a lo largo de la Interestatal 4 (I-4). En base a la propuesta no solicitada, FDOT, en nombre del Estado y CFX, está iniciando un proceso de adquisición abierto y transparente para que cualquier entidad privada interesada pueda solicitar. La inscripción es para aquellos interesados en alquilar los derechos de paso propiedad de FDOT y CFX para establecer un servicio ferroviario privado de pasajeros entre Orlando y Tampa. El gobernador Scott dijo: "Esta es una oportunidad emocionante para Orlando, Tampa y todo nuestro estado. Cuando me convertí en gobernador, el gobierno de Obama intentaba usar el dinero de los contribuyentes federales para pagar una conexión ferroviaria que tenía un gasto extremadamente alto, usando dinero de los contribuyentes sin garantía de crecimiento económico. Gov. Scott: FDOT begins process for privately funded high-speed rail from Orlando to Tampa Tallahassee, FL – Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun the process to allow for private investment in a high-speed rail connection from Orlando to Tampa. FDOT and the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) received an unsolicited proposal to lease property owned by the state and CFX to build a high-speed train along Interstate 4. Based on the unsolicited proposal, FDOT, on behalf of the State and CFX, is initiating an open, transparent procurement process so any interested private entities may apply. The request is for those interested in leasing FDOT and CFX owned rightsof-way to establish privately funded passenger rail service between Orlando and Tampa. Governor Scott said, “This is an exciting opportunity for Orlando, Tampa and our entire state. When I became Governor, the Obama administration was trying to use federal taxpayer dollars to pay for a rail connection that had an extremely high risk of overspending taxpayer dollars with no guarantee of economic growth. This is exactly what we’re seeing in California, a state which took this bad deal from Obama, and in Connecticut where taxpayers had to shell out hundreds of millions of dollars for their rail line. Instead of placing taxpayers on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars, our goal is for the private sector to invest in this project. Through private investment, we ensure that this major project has zero financial risk to Florida taxpayers.”
Gobernador Rick Scott In 2011, Governor Scott rejected more than $2 billion in federal funds for a taxpayer funded 84-mile government train from Tampa to Orlando because the project would have exposed Florida taxpayers to millions of dollars of costs for decades. In other states that accepted funding, there were cost overruns and ongoing operation and maintenance costs. The State of California accepted federal funding for a project that current estimates indicate will experience significant cost overruns, with costs rising from approximately $33 billion to potentially $98.1 billion and with the hope of limited service beginning in 2027. In Connecticut, state taxpayers had to pay more than $560 million for their new government train. Private intercity passenger rail service has been constructed and is currently being operated in Florida at no cost to taxpayers. This Request for Proposals (RFP) will provide an opportunity for the private sector to expand privately funded passenger rail service in the state at a zero risk to Florida taxpayers. Interested parties will have 120 days to submit proposals after the RFP is released.

The expansion of SunRail began in April 2016 with four official stations, which are: • Meadow Woods • Tupperware • Downtown Kissimmee • Poinciana The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) inaugurated a new train ride beginning its route on July 23, 2018. This new service will allow the community to travel from one point to another in less time. Some of the stations the new link 155 will be riding are Crosslands Shopping Center, Osceola County School for the Arts, Walmart Supercenter (Osceola Pkwy), The Loop, Buenaventura Lakes branch library, Tupperware SunRail station, and Robert Guevara Community Center. Population in Osceola County in growing fast and this new train service will give people many more options. The first train runs from Poinciana at 5:45 am taking only 35 minutes to arrive at Church street. “People who live near the stations and have the opportunity to ride the train, should take advantage of this service,” said Steve Olson Communications Manager. This train has two floors and one silence room for those who like to travel in quiet. People who travel in the train have the chance to study, work, or just enjoy the view and the quick ride that is now available for everybody. Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Hombre arrestado por abuso sexual o actos lascivos Condado Osceola, FL - El 20 de junio de 2018, los oficiales del sheriff del condado Osceola arrestaron a Luis Eduardo Linares, de Kissimmee, de 70 años, por el delito de 4 cargos de abuso sexual o acto lascivo, en violación de F.S.S. 800.04 (5) (b). La investigación reveló que en el transcurso de un año el Sr. Linares se hizo amigo de la familia y se ganó la confianza de la víctima (menor de 12 años) al comprar varios regalos para esta durante todo un año. El Sr. Linares utilizó las oportunidades, cuando estaba solo con la víctima, para molestarla en al menos cuatro ocasiones distintas. Tenemos una fuerte razón para creer que pueden existir víctimas adicionales. El Sr. Linares fue recluido en la Cárcel del Condado Osceola sin ningún tipo de fianza.

Man arrested for lewd or lascivious molestation Osceola County, FL - On June 20, 2018 Osceola County Sheriff’s detectives arrested 70-year-old, Luis Eduardo Linares of Kissimmee, for the offense of 4 counts of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation in violation of F.S.S. 800.04(5)(b). The investigation revealed over the course of a year, Mr. Linares, who was a family friend, gained the trust of the victim (under 12 years old) and the family by purchasing various gifts for the victim throughout a year. Mr. Linares used the opportunities, when he was alone with the victim,
to molest the child on at least four separate occasions. We have a strong reason to believe additional victims may exist. Mr. Linares was booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond. Anyone with information regarding this case or any additional victims is asked to contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-3482222 or Crimeline at 1-800-423TIPS, where information leading to a FELONY arrest may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.

Officer Involved Shooting St. Cloud, FL - On June 23 at approximately 11:30pm, officers responded to 1100 Tennessee Avenue after receiving multiple calls about a possible suicidal subject in crisis. The St. Cloud Police Department has an extensive history of similar calls at this residence. Upon arrival the subject engaged officers with a handgun in his hand. Verbal commands by the officers were ignored and the subject raised his weapon
towards the officers. One officer fired at and struck the subject. Officers immediately began to render first aid and the subject was transported to Osceola Regional; currently in stable condition. The 5-year veteran officer has been placed on administrative leave per department policy. FDLE responded and assumed lead on the investigation. (#183274)
