Research estimates that implementing effective policies and strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect can save taxpayers $80 billion per year. The cost of doing nothing impacts social services, healthcare and the education and justice systems. Local pinwheel gardens are planted in April throughout Osceola County,

and across Florida, as part of the nationwide Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. Pinwheels are the national symbol of child abuse prevention and a visible reminder of the safe, happy and healthy childhoods that all children deserve. Each year, advocates and volunteers plant pinwheel gardens in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, a national month dedicated to recognizing the ways that people can get involved in the healthy development of children. The campaign has distributed more than 4 million pinwheels nationwide since 2008.

We are fortunate to rest on the banks of Lake Tohopekaliga where hundreds of residents and visitors enjoy fishing, walking, riding, and playing each day. Our City is also home to a stunning segment of Shingle Creek. With trails, boat access points, and natural parks, this part of our City feels like an escape from the Central Florida hustle and bustle. The City of Kissimmee’s “Back Yard” That’s why we’re so excited to reveal the first renderings for the Lancaster Ranch Project. This 150-acre area just south of Downtown Kissimmee is ripe for a wide-open, natural park space. If Kissimmee Lakefront Park is the front yard of our City, consider the Lancaster Ranch Project the back yard. This park would add open green space, miles of walking trails, beautifully natural scenery, and recreation space for all to enjoy.

To help determine how to best develop this area, residents were given the opportunity to fill out a survey or attend a public workshop. Our goal was to hear what residents would and would not like in this type of park. What we found out was that people want to see native plants in the park as well as to preserve historical and environmental elements. There was a lot of support for active access to Shingle Creek, which runs as the southern border of the park, as well as space for pavilions and a recreation center/fieldhouse. More Updates to Come Our desire is that our residents and visitors will have the chance to enjoy the natural beauty around them while still receiving the opportunities and amenities that the City of Kissimmee offers. The Lancaster Ranch Project is currently in the engineering and design phase which is projected to take approximately two years. Construction will then run in phases over the following three years pending the allocation of funds by the City Commission. Stay tuned for more project updates on Lancaster Ranch as it continues to develop.

On March 28, Moss and the Osceola School District celebrated the groundbreaking of Harmony Middle School AA. At the end of last year, Osceola County Commissioner Viviana Janer shared Tupperware's plans for the reconstruction of Orange Avenue as a four-lane highway and said: "This road improvement is critical to supporting the infrastructure needed since Osceola County continues its growth, providing an appropriate link to the new "SunRail Tupperware" station. The reconstruction extends along the edge of Orange County to the end of Orange Avenue on Osceola Parkway.

Valencia Workshop Kissimmee, FL - On Thursday, March 29, 2018 Valencia College Osceola campus held a Symposium with community entrepreneurs and members of the Small Business Development Center. The purpose of the symposium was to provide students interested in opening and running their own business with a learning opportunity with community partners and entrepreneurs.

Valencia students had questions regarding financing, where to start accomplishing their entrepreneurial goals, questions that the panel members were able to help clarify. Moreover, students got experimental learning, networking opportunities; they shared business ideas, and practiced thinking in an entrepreneurial way.

Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Gobernador de Puerto Rico exhorta al congresista Bishop a tomar en consideración a todas las partes San Juan, PR - El gobernador de Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló Nevares cursó una carta a Rob Bishop (R-Utah) en la que exhorta al congresista a adoptar un enfoque equilibrado que refleje a todas las partes interesadas en Puerto Rico y no solo las preocupaciones de los bonistas. La misiva enviada al también presidente del Comité de Recursos Naturales de la Cámara de Representantes de los Estados Unidos –organismo que atiende los asuntos de Puerto Rico y los territorios en el Congreso– surge en respuesta a una carta que el congresista cursó la semana pasada a la Junta de Supervisión Fiscal. “Estoy profundamente consternado de que su carta (que insensiblemente tilda al Pueblo de Puerto Rico como ciudadanos de segunda clase) exprese su principal preocupación con respecto a la ‘falta de compromiso con los acreedores’ por parte de la Junta de Supervisión, en lugar de expresar su apoyo a Puerto Rico y su gente (a quienes se refiere como sus "hermanos estadounidenses"). Al exigir que la Junta usurpe la función del Gobierno electo de Puerto Rico, su carta muestra total indiferencia por la Constitución de Puerto Rico, sus leyes y la voluntad de los 3.4 millones de ciudadanos estadounidenses

que viven allí”, reza la carta del gobernador de Puerto Rico. El gobernador advirtió además que el Comité de Recursos Naturales de la Cámara federal tiene de frente dos caminos: apoyar el espíritu de la Ley federal PROMESA que “ha resultado en un progreso significativo, que incluye la aprobación y certificación de los planes y presupuestos fiscales para el Gobierno de Puerto Rico y sus agencias instrumentales” o “un comportamiento obstruccionista que socavaría la autoridad y la legitimidad del Gobierno debidamente electo”. Además, en la misiva, el primer ejecutivo lamenta que el congresista Bishop utilice el mismo argumento que los acreedores han presentado en la corte pidiendo que la Junta de Supervisión Fiscal determine cuáles son los servicios públicos esenciales. Al mismo tiempo, Rosselló Nevares rechazó las alegaciones del congresista Bishop sobre dilaciones en la entrega del Plan Fiscal y la sobrefacturación de asesores en el proceso de Título III. “Lamentablemente, su carta incluye todo lo que está mal en este proceso y solo sirve para reforzar el tratamiento despectivo, de segunda clase y colonial que Puerto Rico ha sufrido a lo largo de su historia como territorio de los Estados Unidos, lo que socava nuestros esfuerzos para abordar el

tema de la crisis fiscal, económica y humanitaria de la Isla.” Sobre el gasto de abogados, el primer ejecutivo recordó que muchos de los acreedores han decidido demandar a entidades gubernamentales y funcionarios del Gobierno –incluyendo al propio primer ejecutivo–que la Junta de Supervisión Fiscal no tiene autoridad legal para representar. Asimismo, el gobernador recordó cómo el Congreso no ha tomado acción sobre las recomendaciones hechas por el Grupo de Trabajo sobre Desarrollo Económico en

Governor Rosselló urges Congressman Bishop to take all parties into consideration San Juan, PR - The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, addressed today a letter to Rob Bishop (R-Utah) in which he urges the congressman to adopt a balanced approach that considers all stakeholders in Puerto Rico and not just the concerns of the bondholders. The letter sent to the also chairman of the US House Committee on Natural Resources—Congress body that addresses the issues of Puerto Rico and the territories— arises in response to a letter that Congressman Bishop sent last week to the Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB). "I am deeply dismayed that your letter (which callously pays lip service to the people of Puerto Rico as second-class citizens) expresses primary concern regarding a “lack of creditor engagement” on the part of the Oversight Board, instead of expressing support for Puerto Rico and her people (whom you refer to as your “American brethren”). By demanding that the Board usurp the function of Puerto Rico’s elected Government, your letter shows complete disregard for Puerto Rico’s Constitution, its laws and the will of the 3.4 million American citizens who live there," reads the letter of the governor of Puerto Rico. The governor warned as well that the federal House Committee on Natural Resources now faces a fork in the road: support the PROMESA process that “has resulted in significant progress, including approval and certification of fiscal plans and budgets for the Commonwealth and its instrumentalities” or an “obstructionist behavior that would undermine the duly elected Government’s authority and legitimacy”.

Besides, in the letter, the chief executive regrets that Congressman Bishop uses the same argument that creditors have filed in court, asking that the FOMB determine what are the essential public services. Likewise, Rosselló rejected the allegations of Congressman Bishop regarding delays in the submitting of the Fiscal Plan and the overinvoicing of consultants in the Title III process. "Regrettably, your letter embodies everything that is wrong with this process and only serves to reinforce the dismissive and second-class colonial treatment Puerto Rico has suffered throughout its history as a territory of the United States, which undermines our efforts to address the Island’s fiscal, economic, and humanitarian crises. Regarding the expense of lawyers, the chief executive recalled that many of the creditors have decided to sue government entities and government officials including, that the FOMB has no legal authority to represent. The governor also recalled how Congress has not taken action on the recommendations made by the Congressional Task Force on Economic Growth in Puerto Rico, established by the federal PROMESA Act that recommended numerous steps for Congress to help the economy of Puerto Rico to stabilize and grow. Rosselló concluded by stating that his Administration is willing to continue the dialogue with the bondholders to negotiate a fair restructuring of the debt, but made it clear that " we will not be thrown into submission by false allegations and innuendo that the Government has not acted in good faith or in a transparent manner".

La Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) y Orlando Professional Indoor Soccer LLC anunciaron la formación de un nuevo equipo en una conferencia de prensa el 28 de marzo en Silver Spurs Arena. City of Orlando awarded Major Arena Soccer League franchise Kissimmee, FL – Professional soccer will now be a year-round activity in the Orlando metropolitan area. The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) and Orlando Professional Indoor Soccer LLC announced the formation of a new team at a press conference today at Silver Spurs Arena. The new team will be part of the MASL’s 2018/19 alignment and will play its 12 home games at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee beginning in early December. The team announced the hiring of Chris Kokalis to serve as General Manager of the Central Florida franchise. Kokalis is a veteran general manager who has worked in indoor football and arena soccer and is eager to build the Orlando team from the ground up. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to create something special in this market and I think Orlando is in for a treat when they experience arena soccer for the first time in person.” Experience Kissimmee and Park Inn by Radisson were announced as the team’s first sponsors. Fans can now go to the team’s

temporary website MASLOrlando.com and enter in a Name the Team contest. The first person to submit the name that is ultimately selected will win season tickets for 2018/19 season.
