MCO Airport - Noticias / News Las tarifas de estacionamiento aumentarán por primera vez en casi una década en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Orlando Orlando, FL - La canción número uno en Estados Unidos fue "Party in the USA" de Miley Cyrus, la película número uno fue Avatar y los Pittsburgh Steelers ganaron su sexto campeonato de Super Bowl. El año fue 2009 y fue la última vez que el Aeropuerto Internacional de Orlando (MCO) aumentó las tarifas de estacionamiento. The year was 2009 and it was the last time that Orlando International Airport (MCO) increased parking rates. After nine years of absorbing increasing operating costs and holding the line on parking fees, the board of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) authorized a price increased for airport parking garages. Prices will go up by $2 per day to a maximum of $19 per day for Terminal Top and the "A" and "B" garages and a maximum of $17 per day for the "C" garage starting October 1st. in North Park Place and South Park Place remain unchanged at $10 per day and for those picking someone up from the airport, the popular North and South cell phone temporary parking lots remain a FREE option. The additional increase is necessary to help offset the rising costs of operating and maintaining the garages, remote parking lots, cell phone lots and surface roads on airport property. Orlando International will still be one of the most economical venues in Central Florida. All of the major theme parks charge $22 per day while the Amway Center's Geico Garage charges $20 per event. MCO also charges less for parking than most airports in the country and across the state.

Early Voting Osceola County, FL - As a convenience to the voter, the Supervisor of Elections provide early voting at designated early voting sites found around the county. These sites will be open from October 26 to November 4th, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., for general elections 2018. The voter will use the same type of voting equipment that is used at the polls on Election Day.
Early voting will be offered in the main office of the Supervisor of Elections, as well as five other locations around the county (see locations at table above). New hiring initiative to help communities gain employment arrives to Florida Hospital Kissimmee Kissimmee, FL - In a new twist on our recruitment strategy, HR is actually going into neighborhoods (like Parramore, Bithlo and Eatonville) and training candidates on how to do a job interview before actually having an interview. HR came out with this initiative because they noticed a pattern during the screening process of people applying for entry-level positions. Most of the applicants didn’t pass the initial screening process because they were unfamiliar with basic hiring and application requirements such as having a resume or knowing what to wear to an interview. Now, HR holds a two-day hiring/ recruitment event for this unique population. The first day is a bootcamp where applicants receive basic interview tips, and interviews are conducted on the second day for positions such as nutritional
services, security, environmental services and patient access. So far, HR has hired more than 50 people with this new initiative. This is how one of our human resources managers explains this great outcome: “We stopped saying: 'Sorry you are not good enough' and we started to say, 'Here’s what we are looking for and this is how you need to prepare for it.' It has allowed us to bring new talent to our organization and to transform lives.” The next boot-camp/job fair will be Monday, October 29, and Tuesday, October 30 in Florida Hospital Kissimmee. Purple Door Luncheon Highlights Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Orange County Orange County, FL - Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs was recognized as the Central Florida Champion of Advocacy for her service and unwavering commitment to children and families at the 2018 Purple Door Luncheon hosted by Harbor House of Central Florida on Oct. 17, 2018 at the Rosen Centre Hotel. The signature event held during Domestic Violence Awareness Month celebrates survivors and brings the conversation of supporting and aiding victims of domestic violence to the forefront of the community. Harbor House presents the Champions of Courage Awards to leaders in the community at the annual luncheon. The award recognizes those who are working to create positive change in the lives of domestic violence survivors. Other Champion of Courage honorees included Champion of Community, Bank of America; Champion of Courage, Orlando Police Department; Champion of Equality, former Harbor House Chief Operations Officer and Executive Director of Zebra Coalition Heather Wilkie; Champion of Justice, Orange County Circuit Court Judge Alice Blackwell; and Harbor House Legacy Leader, domestic violence survivor advocate Beverly Paulk. Harbor House is Orange County’s leading authority on domestic violence and seeks to eliminate domestic violence in Central Florida by providing safety, shelter, empowerment, education and justice. Hurricane Michael Los abogados de Jurimex de Orlando organizan ayuda de emergencia a las víctimas del huracán Michael en Panhandle de Florida Panama City, FL - El huracán Michael, una tormenta viciosa de categoría cinco con vientos sostenidos de 155 millas por hora, tocó tierra en la costa noroeste de Florida el 10 de octubre y destrozó comunidades costeras enteras. La devastación fue completa, México City, una ciudad en la playa fue destruida; nada quedó en pie y la cercana Panamá City con una población de 40,000, incluyendo a muchos hispanos, se vieron casas y negocios con techos arrancados y muros derribados. Cuarenta personas murieron. Sólo el hospital en Panama City estaba en funcionamiento con generadores y un exterior temporal remendado. Orlando’s Jurimex lawyers organize emergency relief to victims of hurricane Michael in Florida Panhandle Panama City, FL - Hurricane Michael, a vicious category five storm with sustained winds of 155 miles per hour, made landfall in Florida’s Panhandle on October 10 and ripped apart and wiped out entire coastal communities. The devastation was complete, Mexico City, a town on the beach, was obliterated - nothing left standing and nearby Panama City with a population of 40,000, including many Hispanics, saw homes and businesses with roofs ripped off and walls gone. Forty peoples died. Only the hospital in Panama City was up and running with generators and a temporary patched up exterior. Residents walked about the streets in shock, numb, carrying children not knowing where to go or when help would arrive. Only police cruisers and the National Guard patrolled the streets and enforced curfews from sun down to sun up. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, was nowhere to be seen. No electricity, water, food, ice, no shelter or basic life sustaining necessities. Hispanics were especially hard hit and were desperately calling out for help to everyone, anyone. The lawyers of Jurimex, an Orlando and Miami based group who was formed 8 years ago to help Mexicans and other Hispanics throughout Florida to avoid the prevalent fraud in legal representation, decided to organize a major relief effort in Panhandle. The lawyers immediately put together a relief fund of $40,000. Jurimex lawyers Brent Probinsky and Armando Payas contributed $15,000 and received donations from other law firms in Florida and even as far as St. Louis where the Simons Law Firm donated $5,000. Jeffers, a Mexican community leader in Kissimmee and her husband Kent, who operate Collectivo Arbol, went into immediate action. They reached out to Changing Rooms, an Orlando based Puerto Rican community group, who donated hundreds of bags filled with emergency items to distribute to Panhandle families, including food, clothing, toiletries and even toys for children. Attorney Probinsky and his wife Susan, with the help of the Jeffers couple and their friends, Carlos and Vanessa Alvarez, rented three huge trucks in Orlando and spent two days at Home Depot and Walmart filling them with generators, chain saws, coolers, tents, sleeping bags, tarps, thousands of pounds of fresh food, fruit, meat, cheeses, canned food, baby food, ice, flashlights and medicines and headed for Panhandle, a 400 mile trek. All night they drove the caravan of 3 huge trucks, cars, vans and a pickup truck and on Sunday, October 14th, set up a distribution center at Casa De Dios in a partially destroyed shopping center in Panama City. A generator from Home Depot got the lights on and church volunteers helped distribute supplies to more than 500 Hispanic families, many from Mexico and Central America. They also gave out coolers, ice and portable stoves. Church volunteers, including Jose and Yani Torres and Pastor Noemi, showed up with pickup trucks and vans that took vital supplies to devastated neighborhoods. Several generators were donated to churches and families who had members with medical emergencies and chain saws went to volunteer cleanup crews. The distribution of 25,000 pounds of supplies, ice, water and food continued for three days. Rebuilding is the next step for the Panhandle’s Hispanic families, many of whom are undocumented and may not receive assistance from FEMA. Probinsky, lawyers of Jurimex, Isaret Jeffers and other leaders are organizing the next phase - donations to buy materials for rebuilding devastated communities.

Orlando, FL - En Orlando se celebró como todos los años el Restaurant and Lodging Show en el Orange County Convention Center.
Orlando, FL - In Orlando, the Restaurant and Lodging Show was held at the Orange County Convention Center.
Este año el show contó con un grupo especial de comida saludable, orgánica y vegetariana. Desde ‘cupcakes’ libre de gluten hasta ‘oumph’, los cuales se robaron el show, con su comida a base de proteína de soya la cual es en textura y sabor una copia de cualquier proteína. Para personas como yo que somos carnívoras, probar algo como esto y no poder diferenciar es alucinante. Le puedes dar el sabor que gustes y viene en diferentes empaques con diferentes sabores. ¡La única manera que podría pensar en abstenerme de comer carne sería con este producto, porque es espectacular! La feria llevó diferente tipo de quesos, carnes, mariscos y hasta vinos a base de cannabis el cual es dulce y refrescante.
¡Las competencias de repostería de bizcochos, de los cuales el tema fue bandas de rock, desplegó las destrezas de muchos reposteros en cuanto a sus trabajos con pastas laminadas, verdaderamente un espectáculo! La competencia de las diferentes variedades de macarrones con queso, los cuales fueron divertidas y deliciosas, con extras como trufas, langosta y muchas otras variedades, al igual que la de "grill cheese" los cuales fueron realizados por estudiantes de artes culinarias, con variedades desde salsa de tomatillo verdes, cebollas gratinadas en vinagre balsámico, en fin una serie de sabores que deleitaban el paladar del más exigente. ¡Comidas sencillas pero con unos sabores glorioso! Personas de todas partes trajeron sus productos para darlos a conocer y de más está decirles que en un día subes 5 kilos probando todo. ¡Tomen nota para el próximo año donde pueden comprar entrada con antelación y disfrutar de este show, que no se lo deben perder!
The show this year featured a special group of healthy, organic and vegetarian food. From cupcakes "gluten free" to OUMPH, which stole the show, with its food based on soy protein that taste and feels like meat!!! For people like me, that are carnivorous, trying something like oumph and not being able to differentiate is amazing. You can give it the flavor you like and it has the texture of chicken. The only way I could think of refraining from eating meat would be with this product, because it is spectacular! The fair brought different types of cheeses, meats, seafood and even a cannabis-based wine, which is sweet and refreshing.
The cake competition, which had a rock band theme was far out spectacular! The macaroni and cheese competition, which were fun and delicious, with extras such as truffles, lobster and many other varieties. The "grill cheese" competition was shown by culinary students, with varieties ranging from green tomatillo sauce or onions with balsamic vinegar, at the end a series of flavors that delighted the palate of the most demanding. Simple meals but with glorious flavors! People from all over brought their products to make them known. It's fun and amazing but you have to watch out because in one day you go up to 5 kilos trying everything!! Take note for next year to buy tickets in advance and enjoy this show.

El gobernador Scott y la primera dama Ann Scott abren la mansión del gobernador de Florida como refugio Tallahassee, FL - El gobernador Rick Scott recibió a 50 patrulleros estatales de la Florida Highway Patrol de todo el estado en la mansión del gobernador de Florida para cenar. Gov. Scott and First Lady Ann Scott open Florida Governor’s Mansion as shelter Tallahassee, FL – Governor Rick Scott welcomed 50 Florida Highway Patrol State Troopers from around the state to the Florida Governor’s Mansion for dinner. Following dinner, 35 of the State Troopers slept overnight prior to their deployment to the Gulf Coast as soon as Hurricane Michael passed. The Mansion is being used as a law enforcement shelter for as long as necessary. Just hours after Hurricane Michael’s landfall, the Florida Highway Patrol deployed to conduct search and rescue missions. There are 600 State Troopers assigned to the Panhandle and Big Bend area of Florida to assist with response and recovery. The dinner was donated
by Publix. Governor Scott said, “My wife, Ann, and I are happy to welcome these brave members of the Florida Highway Patrol to have dinner and get much needed rest at the Florida Governor’s Mansion before deploying into our Gulf Coast communities devastated by Hurricane Michael. These law enforcement officers are leaving the comfort of their homes and company of their families to deploy for critical hurricane response and recovery missions and we cannot thank all of our law enforcement enough for their service. Orange County News Graduados de la Séptima clase de Orange County Experience Condado Orange, FL – “Orange County Experience” graduó su séptima clase el 19 de octubre de 2018 dentro de la Cámara de Comisionados del Condado. El programa, creado en 2011 por la alcaldesa del Condado Orange, Teresa Jacobs, es una serie interactiva diseñada específicamente para que los ciudadanos locales y los líderes comunitarios aprendan más sobre el Condado Orange y los servicios vitales que brinda el Condado. Orange County Experience Graduates Seventh Class Orange County, FL - The Orange County Experience graduated its seventh class on Oct. 19, 2018 inside the Board of County Commissioners Chambers. The program, created in 2011 by Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs, is an interactive series designed specifically for local citizens and community leaders to learn more about Orange County and the vital services that the County provides. Orange County Experience Program Manager and Office for a Drug Free Community Director Carol Burkett led the 11-week program throughout the County. The program, which kicked off this year in August, began with a tour of Orange County Fire Rescue. Throughout the series, participants received a first-hand look at the internal operations of Orange County Government, from technology and infrastructure to neighborhoods and health and family services. Orange County staff provided more than 30 hours of presentations and facility tours, including the Medical Examiner’s Office, Utilities, Animal Services and Parks and Recreation. This year’s graduating class consisted of more than 20 graduates. Some graduates of the program go on to serve on the County’s citizen advisory boards and continue their service through other volunteer opportunities.
