Osceola County News El presupuesto propuesto para el 2019 en el Condado Osceola mantiene la tasa de impuesto a la propiedad Condado Osceola, FL - Por noveno año consecutivo, la tasa de impuestos básicos sobre la propiedad del fondo general del Condado no aumentará bajo el presupuesto recomendado por el Administrador del Condado presentado a los Comisionados del Condado el lunes. Osceola County’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2019 Budget maintains millage rate Osceola County, FL - For the ninth consecutive year, the county’s general fund millage rate will not increase under the county manager’s recommended budget presented to County Commissioners on Monday. The overall tax rate also will remain the same as last year. However, this year’s budget is a balancing act between available resources and the demand of mandated and core responsibilities alongside concentrated efforts to grow and strengthen the County with desired quality of life amenities. The impact of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School led to a significant increase in the Sheriff’s Office budget request for FY19 due to changes in State Legislation that mandated a major change in staffing to keep our children safe. The budget process is ongoing and on Monday Sheriff Russ Gibson talked about his office’s efforts to keep spending under control – even with the state’s unfunded mandate for more School Resource Officers. Commissioners were appreciative of the effort. In a switch from previous years, all the Constitutional Officers (and LYNX) were invited to make budget presentations

to the board. The County continues experiencing many positive signs that the economy is recovering as property valuations increased by 10.65 percent, though they have still not reached FY08 valuations (pre-recession levels). The Fiscal Year 19 recommended budget includes an overall similar level of service, such as maintaining the road resurfacing program at the same level ($9 million) as the current year, continuation of the commitment to public safety, fire/EMS stations, equipment and training facility, with specific budget items directly tied to the Board-approved Strategic Plan. Today is just the start of the budget process, with many opportunities for residents to give their input remaining. While millage rates were set on Monday, it is important to remember they cannot be raised, only lowered. Staff will continue to adjust the budget, based on direction from the Board, in preparation for the first public hearing. The first public hearing on the tax rates proposed for the budget will be held at 5:30 p.m., September 6 in the Board of County Commission Chambers, 1 Courthouse Square, Room 4100, Kissimmee, FL 34741.

St. Cloud Ceremonia de inauguración de la nueva estación de bomberos 33 St. Cloud, FL - El jefe de bomberos Joe Silvestris y todo el personal del Departamento de Rescate de Incendios de St. Cloud invitó al público y a los medios de comunicación a asistir a la ceremonia de inauguración de la Estación de Bomberos 33, el sábado, 21 de julio. The new emergency traffic signal will allow emergency vehicles quick access to 13th St., while helping reduce response times. During all other normal hours, the emergency lights on US 192 will flash yellow and the emergency lights on Minnesota Ave. will flash red.

New Fire Station 33 grand opening ceremony St. Cloud, FL - Fire Chief Joe Silvestris and the entire staff of the St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department invited the public and media members to attend the grand opening ceremony of Fire Station 33, on Saturday, July 21st . The ceremony, began at 9:00 a.m., was held at 3755 Friars Cove Ln. There was an open house following the ribbon cutting portion of the ceremony. Station 33 was designed with several key features in mind: safety, cancer prevention, education and open and private space for team members. With cancer being a growing concern in the fire service, Station 33 was designed to help cut down on that risk. The facility includes an extractor to help decontaminate gear, as well as a breezeway to prevent vehicle exhaust from getting into living quarters.

Celebración de la Independecia de Colombia

Fiesta Nacional de Independencia de Colombia Osceola County, FL – El sábado 21 de julio la comunidad americana e hispana se unieron a la celebración de los colombianos en Florida Central, con motivo de la Fiesta Nacional de Independencia, en un evento organizado por el Consulado de Colombia en Orlando. Cientos de personas acudieron a esta emblemática celebración cafetalera en Plaza del Sol, Kissimmee, donde la música tradicional colombiana fue la invitada de honor, ya que este 2018 se realizó un tributo a La Cumbia con bailables que alegraron esa tarde. El alcalde de Kissimmee, José Álvarez, felicitó a la comunidad colombiana que es parte de esta ciudad, y expresó sentirse parte de ella. “Felicidades, trabajamos para toda la comunidad, son un orgullo para nuestra ciudad”, resaltó. También destacó la participación del movimiento cultural hispano Tertulia 4 Gatos, cuyos integrantes leyeron poemas dedicados a La

Cumbia y a toda la comunidad colombiana, para deleite de los asistentes. La poeta argentina Nélida Málaga, expresó: “cumbia de mis amores, cumbia que me arrebatas y alegras mi corazón, al escucharte siento correr mi sangre pidiendo café con ron”. La representante del Consulado de Colombia en Orlando, la Vicecónsul Edith Salamanca, dijo que “hoy estamos celebrando 200 años de aquel grito que nos unió en la lucha por la independencia, ser colombiano es una característica única, por el sabor, por nuestra cultura”. Los himnos nacionales de Estados Unidos y de Colombia se escucharon durante este evento, como símbolo de unión entre las dos naciones, y de la vida pluricultural de Florida Central. Colombianos e hispanos de otras nacionalidades, participaron en el concurso de cumbia, incluso de forma espontánea, lo que significó uno de los momentos más coloridos de esta celebración.

National Independence Party of Colombia Osceola County, FL - On Saturday, July 21, the American and Hispanic community joined the celebration of the Colombians in Central Florida, on the occasion of the National Independence Party, at an event organized by the Colombian Consulate in Orlando.

Hundreds of people attended this emblematic coffee celebration in Plaza del Sol, Kissimmee, where traditional Colombian music was the guest of honor, this year there was a tribute to “La Cumbia” with dancers who cheered that afternoon.

The representative of the Consulate of Colombia in Orlando, Vice Consul Edith Salamanca, said that "today we are celebrating 200 years of that cry that united us in the struggle for independence, being Colombian is a unique characteristic, for the taste, for our culture" .

The mayor of Kissimmee, José Álvarez, congratulated the Colombian community that is part of this city, and expressed feeling part of it. "Congratulations, we work for the whole community, they are a pride for our city," he said. He also highlighted the participation of the Hispanic cultural movement Tertulia 4 Cats, whose members read poems

The national anthems of the United States and Colombia were heard during this event, as a symbol of union between the two nations, and of pluricultural life in Central Florida. Colombians and Hispanics of other nationalities, participated in the cumbia contest, even spontaneously, which meant one of the most colorful moments of this celebration.

Se busca a sospechoso de robo Condado Osceola, FL - El 18 de julio de 2018, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola respondió a un robo en North Narcoossee Road en Saint Cloud. Un hombre blanco o hispano desconocido se acercó a la puerta de la víctima avisándole que estaba haciendo un trabajo de árboles para un vecino y quería ver la línea de propiedad, solicitando así que el dueño de la casa se lo mostrara. Wanted – suspect robbery Osceola County, FL - On July 18, 2018, Osceola County Sheriff Office responded to a distraction burglary on North Narcoossee Road in Saint Cloud. An unknown white or Hispanic male came to the victim’s door advising he was doing tree work for a neighbor and wanted to see the property line, requesting the homeowner show him. While the victim was showing the male the property line, a second suspect approached the house and made contact with the wife asking to check their water. The second suspect made his way into the residence and turned on the kitchen faucet. The victim stated during the entirety of the incident the suspect continued talking on a walkie-talkie. When the victim advised he needed to return to the house, the suspect said something on the walkie-talkie and began running away.

The suspects in the house fled as well. At this time, it is not believed anything is missing from the victim’s home. The victim stated he observed an unknown white car (possibly Toyota or Lexus) leaving his driveway, which is believed to be the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information concerning these or other cases like these is asked to contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at (407) 348-2222 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477, where information leading to an arrest may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000.

Proposed Budget Calls for More Police Officers The City’s proposed budget Kissimmee, FL - On Friday, July 13, 2018, City Manager Mike Steigerwald presented the City Commission with a proposed $187.5 million budget for consideration to help support the City’s vision, needs, and long-term goals. Managing and planning for the continued growth and partially funded state mandates, the City’s proposed budget for the 2018-19 Fiscal Year includes the addition of 13 new positions with the Kissimmee Police Department, with 10 of the 12 new sworn officer positions being dedicated to expanding the School Resource Officer program in all public schools and charter schools within the City. Several other positions in various departments are also being proposed as part of next year’s budget.

Qué esperar de la Liga Mexicana Apertura 2018 Orlando, FL - La Liga MX ha regresado el pasado fin de semana, y después de “malacostumbrarnos” con el mundial, tuvimos que volver a la realidad con el 0-0 entre Atlas y Querétaro. Sin embargo, para este torneo algunos equipos han generado mucha expectativa. Otros, tristeza. ¿Qué podemos esperar del Apertura 2018 que apenas comenzó? Vamos a averiguarlo. Monterrey, Toluca y Tigres se pelearán el título Los Rayados, pese a perder a su DT, el “Turco” Mohammed, con el Celta de Vigo, se han reforzado de gran manera y lucen como los más fuertes para volver a levantar un trofeo después de 8 años sin hacerlo. Road Construction Cierre temporal de carreteras en Columbia Ave. a partir del lunes 30 de julio Kissimmee, FL - La Autoridad del Agua de Toho anuncia el cierre del tráfico en la intersección de Columbia Avenue y Dyer Boulevard a partir del lunes 30 de julio de 2018 para llevar a cabo un proyecto de rehabilitación de alcantarillado (Ver mapa adjunto). El cronograma que se muestra a continuación es conservador e intenta considerar el clima imprevisto y las condiciones típicas de los proyectos de construcción subterránea. Se harán todos los esfuerzos para completar el proyecto antes del comienzo del año escolar. Intersección en Columbia Ave. y Dyer Blvd., duración del cierre de la carretera: del 30 de julio de 2018 al 24 de agosto de 2018. Temporary road closure on Columbia Ave. beginning Monday, July 30 Kissimmee, FL - Toho Water Authority is announcing the closure to through traffic at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Dyer Boulevard beginning Monday, July 30, 2018 to conduct a sewer rehabilitation project (See attached map). The schedule shown below is conservative and tries to consider unforeseen weather and conditions typical of underground construction projects. All efforts will be made to complete the project before the beginning of the school year. Intersection at Columbia Ave. and Dyer Blvd., road closure duration: From July 30, 2018 to August 24, 2018. Westbound and eastbound traffic will be closed on Columbia Avenue from Bonaire Blvd. to Dyer Blvd. Vehicular traffic will be able to access the Sunoco Gas Station from Dyer Blvd. south of Columbia. Residents of the Caribbean Isle Apartments will be able to access Bonaire Blvd. from eastbound Columbia

Ave. (coming from Armstrong Blvd. or Hoagland Blvd.). Dyer Blvd. will remain closed to through traffic between Donegan Ave. and U.S. 192, but open to local traffic. Westbound traffic on Columbia Ave. can turn right on Dyer Blvd. to go north and traffic heading north on Dyer Blvd. from U.S. 192 can turn right (eastbound) on Columbia Ave. It is possible northbound traffic on Dyer Blvd. from Columbia Ave. will be closed for a night or weekend to allow for installation of pipe. Signs will be placed as needed to keep the traveling public informed of the project. Motorists are urged to use caution when approaching these areas, as workers will be present and speed limits may be

reduced in certain areas. Temporary inconveniences; noise and vibrations; barricades and fencing for safety; trucks, machinery and equipment.
