Valencia dio a conocer planes para dos nuevos edificios en el campus de Osceola Por Juan Pablo López Kissimmee, FL - Valencia College celebra su nuevo Centro de Carreras de Capacitación Acelerada (CAT por sus siglas en inglés) en la industria y el nuevo centro de construcción tecnológica que actualmente se encuentra bajo construcción en el campus Osceola. Este proyecto contará con dos edificios nuevos de aproximadamente 14,600 pies cuadrados diseñados para el Centro de Capacitación Acelerada (CAT) donde Valencia ofrecerá programas de capacitación laboral a corto plazo tales como construcción, equipo pesado, logística de transporte, empaque de almacén, servicios médicos clínicos, asistencia y seguridad privada. Además, este nuevo edificio ofrecerá un programa de idiomas tales como inglés como segunda lengua (ESOL), inglés intensivo, español conversacional, portugués conversacional y pronunciación en el idioma inglés. El segundo edificio estará diseñado para carreras en industria y tecnología. Aproximadamente 36,000 pies cuadrados serán destinados para este edificio de dos pisos que contará con laboratorio de ingeniería electromecánica, laboratorios para programación de computadoras, salones de clase, oficinas administrativas y una pequeña unidad de apartamentos para práctica del programa de hospitalidad. Junto con este nuevo edificio se
ofrecerán programas de grado, otorgando un Asociado en Ciencias a programas tales como gestión de propiedades residenciales, tecnología de ingeniería, hotelería y gestión del turismo, y tecnología de justicia penal en Valencia College. Mecatrónica y técnico de servicio son programas de capacitación laboral a corto plazo que estarán disponibles en el campus de Osceola. La Dra. Kathleen A. Plinske Presidenta del Campus dijo: "Estoy segura de que la incorporación de estos dos nuevos edificios en el campus de Osceola junto con las nuevas ofertas de programas que se harán posible, jugarán un papel importante en el aumento de los niveles educativos de los adultos en nuestro condado". Bruce Carlson, Guillermo Hansen y Daisy López-Cid, miembros de la junta de síndicos de Valencia asistieron al evento. El senador estatal Víctor M. Valencia to unveiled plans for two new buildings at our Osceola Campus By Juan Pablo López Kissimmee, FL - Valencia College celebrates their new Center for Accelerated Training Careers in industry and technology building currently under construction at Osceola Campus. This project will have two new buildings one approximately 14,600 square-foot designed for the Center for Accelerated Training (CAT) where Valencia will be offering short-term, job training programs such as construction, heavy equipment, transportation logistic, warehouse packaging, clinical medical assisting, and private security. Also this new building will offer language programs like English as a second-language (ESOL), intensive English, conversational Spanish, conversational Portuguese and English pronunciation. The second building will be designed for careers in industry and technology. Approximately 36,000 squarefeet for this two story building with electro-mechanical engineering lab, computer electronic labs, classrooms, administrative offices, and a small mock-apartment unit for the hospitality program. Along with this new building Associate in Science (A.S) Degree, programs such as residential property management,
engineering technology, hospitality and tourism management, and criminal justice technology will be offered in Valencia College. Mechatronics and service technician are short-term, job training programs that will be available in Valencia College Osceola campus. Dr. Kathleen A. Plinske Campus President said “I am confident that the addition of these two new buildings at the Osceola campus along with the new program offerings that they will make possible, will play a significant role in lifting the educational levels of adults in our county.” Bruce Carlson, Guillermo Hansen, and Daisy Lopez-Cid, Valencia’s board of trustees, attended to the event. State Senator Victor M. Torres expressing his happiness for the project said “For me Valencia has been always a backbone to the community, always looking to new ways to help.” The cost for both buildings is $17.5 million; the Center for Accelerated Training (CAT) will open in January 2019, while the second building for careers in industry and technology will open in late 2019/2020. “This is not just a building, is the future of our community.” said Sandy C. Extended Learning Elementary Summer Camp Open registration for Extended Learning Program Summer Camp Session 1 will take place from Wednesday, April 18, to Friday, April 20; Wednesday, April 25, to Friday, April 27; and Wednesday, May 2, to Friday, May 4. Open registration will only take place in the Extended Learning Main Office from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration must be done in person. Uber and Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, announce one convenient pick up location for Orlando International Airport passengers Orlando, FL - The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and Uber have reached a decision to allow arriving passengers to meet their Uber driver at one convenient location. Those requesting uberX, uberXL or UberSELECT will now meet their Uber at ‘Arrivals’ on Level 2 of the airport. These changes took effect Thursday, April 19 at 9AM. “Uber is thrilled to announce that Central Florida residents and visitors will now have the opportunity to meet their preferred Uber in one convenient
location. Pickups for all Uber products at Orlando International Airport, including our UberSELECT premium product, will occur at ‘Arrivals’ on Level 2,” said Kasra Moshkani, General Manager, Uber Florida. While uberX and uberXL pickups now occur at Arrivals on Level 2, those requesting UberSELECT had to go to Level 1 at the Express Pickup Tunnel located directly next to the rental car counters to meet their ride. Orange County News La Alcaldesa Teresa Jacobs, auspicia el tercer Taller Regional de Vivienda Asequible Orlando, FL - El gobierno del Condado Orange con socios regionales de los condados Seminole y Osceola y la ciudad de Orlando se reunieron para el tercer y último Taller Regional de Vivienda Asequible el 11 de abril de 2018 en el Winter Park Community Center. El evento fue la culminación de una serie de talleres iniciados por la Iniciativa de Vivienda Asequible de la Alcaldesa del Condado Orange, Teresa Jacobs, que comenzó con la Cumbre Regional de Vivienda Asequible en octubre de 2016. Mayor Teresa Jacobs hosts third Regional Affordable Housing Workshop Orlando, FL - Orange County Government with regional partners from Seminole and Osceola counties and the City of Orlando convened for the third and final Regional Affordable Housing Workshop on April 11, 2018 at the Winter Park Community Center. The event was the capstone in a series of workshops initiated by Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs’ Affordable Housing Initiative, which started with the Regional Affordable Housing Summit in October 2016. In the years following the Summit, Orange County Government and regional partners have hosted subsequent workshops that explored affordable housing solutions for the Central Florida region, including identifying sustainable areas for development and housing designed and product types. The third workshop built upon the discussions from prior sessions, focusing on regulatory strategies and identifying the financial and economic impact of affordable housing in the region. Bringing together all aspects of the conversation, the workshop also featured a panel discussion of residential developers who spoke about financial issues and the challenges they face on affordable housing projects. During the event, organizers presented the Regional Affordable Housing Framework, a five-step outline of strategies and resources for addressing housing needs and opportunities in Central Florida. Also, Orange County’s strategy approach was discussed to create more affordable homes, including expediting the permitting processes, impact fee deferrals and subsidies for singlefamily and rental properties, cultivating strategic private, nonprofit and public partnerships with development organizations and housing authorities as well as local housing initiatives including down payment assistance program and property rehabilitation. A regional approach is imperative to exploring affordable housing solutions in Central Florida. From private sector developers, to government planners, the finance and banking industries, academia and the social services sector, the tri-county area is committed to a collaborative affordable housing approach. Governor Rosselló meets with the mayor of Kissimmee attend classes in the Florida education Orlando, FL - The governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló, met on April 24th with the mayor of Kissimmee, José Álvarez and part of the community leadership of the city of Kissimmee and the city of Orlando to learn about the challenges facing the Puerto Rican community in Central Florida that recently moved after the onslaught of Hurricane Maria to the Island. During the meeting the governor thanked the solidarity given to the Puerto Ricans who moved to Florida after the atmospheric phenomenon. Among the concerns that community leadership have is the termination of the Transient Housing Assistance Program (TSA) on May 14 when there are still families with students who

- On October 5th, the Governor entered into a host-state agreement with FEMA : Florida is the only state willing to enter into this type of agreement to help families displaced by Hurricane Maria. - On November 9th, the Governor activated the State Emergency Response Team to assist families displaced by Hurricane Maria. - On January 3rd, Governor Scott sent a letter to the United States Senate Committee on appropriations urging the Senate to immediately pass a significant Hurricane Irma and Maria disaster relief package. - On January 12th, Governor Scott met with Governor Ricardo Rosselló and joined him for a Puerto Rico recovery town hall meeting to discuss ongoing relief efforts. - On February 7th, Governor Scott announced a new partnership to connect families displaced by Hurricane Maria with jobs in Florida. - On March 5th, Governor Scott traveled to Puerto Rico to meet with Congresswoman Jenniffer GonzálezColón and attend the Puerto Rico State of the State Address. - On April 18th, Governor Scott met with Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón in Washington D.C. to discuss how Florida is working to help Puerto Rican evacuees in the state. Sea Wolves el nuevo nombre del equipo de fútbol profesional del centro de la Florida Kissimmee, FL - El pasado miércoles, 25 de abril a las 3:00 p.m., se realizó una conferencia de prensa en el Heritage Club dentro del Silver Spurs Arena en Kissimmee para dar a conocer el nuevo nombre y logotipo de la franquicia deportiva profesional de la Florida Central. Anunciado a principios de este mes, la nueva franquicia de la Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) comenzará a jugarse en diciembre en el Silver Spurs Arena. Más de 2,800 personas presentaron entradas para el concurso "Nombre a su equipo" organizado por el mismo equipo. El nuevo nombre del equipo es Orlando Sea Wolves. El MASL es una liga de costa a costa que cuenta con equipos

Sea Wolves - Central Florida’s new professional soccer team's name Kissimmee, FL Last Wednesday, April 25th a press conference was held at the Heritage Club inside Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee to unveil Central Florida's new professional sports franchise name & logo. Announced earlier this month, the new Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) franchise will begin play in December at the Silver Spurs Arena. Over 2,800 people submitted entries for the "Name Your Team" contest put on by the team. The new name of the team is Orlando Sea Wolves. The MASL is a coast-to-coast league that features teams across
the United States, Canada and Mexico. The 2018/19 season will feature a 24-game schedule, a two-game increase from last season, with play kicking off in early December and continuing through mid-April. Orlando Sea Wolves will have a natural rival in the Florida Tropics, who will be entering their third season in Lakeland's RP Funding Center.
