Emergency Landing Avioneta aterriza de emergencia en Marthin Luther King Boulevard. Kissimmee, FL - El Aeropuerto Kissimmee Gateway reportó que una avioneta CESSNA aterrizó de emergencia en MLK Boulevard tras despegar del aeropuerto a eso de la 1:28 p.m. del martes, 13 de marzo. Aircraft makes emergency landing on Marthin Luther King Blvd. Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee’s Gateway Airport reports a CESSNA plane made an emergency landing at MLK Boulevard after taking off from Kissimmee Gateway Airport at approximately 1:28 p.m. today. Two passengers were aboard the aircraft and no injuries were reported. The pilot and the passenger were evaluated and released at the scene of the accident. FAA and NTSB were notified and will be investigating the cause of the accident. A portion of MLK Boulevard between N. John Young Parkway and Thacker Avenue will remain closed until the aircraft is removed.

KUA Linemen place third in Florida, Lasso 5 Trophies at Rodeo Kissimmee, FL – On Saturday, March 10th, Kissimmee Utility Authority linemen placed third statewide and brought home five trophies from Saturday’s 18th annual Florida Lineman Competition in Kissimmee, hosted by KUA and the Florida Municipal Electric Association. Twenty-one teams and 72 apprentices from utilities throughout Florida gathered at Osceola Heritage Park to demonstrate the safety, skill and endurance of electric linemen in five timed events. There are two levels of competition in the rodeo: journeyman teams and apprentice. The journeyman teams consist of three members – two climbers and a ground worker. A qualified journeyman has more than four years of experience within the electric

utility trade. An apprentice lineworker competes as an individual and has four or fewer years of experience in an apprentice program. Trophies were awarded to KUA linemen in the following event categories: Journeyman Team – Austin Franey, Shane Paras and Billy White 1st place – Hurtman Rescue 3rd place – 4kV Four Bell Changeout 3rd place – 4kV Pole Transfer – Conductor, Transformer & Switch 3rd place – Overall in Florida Apprentice Lars Akkerman 1st place – Double Dead-End Multiskirt Changeout Seven of KUA’s linemen will now travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to represent the utility in the American Public Power Association’s Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo on April 28.

Negocios / Business La Inter en Orlando inaugura nuevas instalaciones Orlando, FL – El 20 de septiembre, el huracán María tocó tierra en la isla de Puerto Rico dejando una gran devastación a su paso: fuertes vientos, tormentas, inundaciones y caída de árboles provocaron severos daños y el colapso de los sistemas de electricidad a lo largo del país. Luego de casi seis meses de su paso, la población puertorriqueña sufre todavía los efectos del devastador huracán, que causó pérdidas por 94,000 millones de dólares. En la isla hay 3.4 millones de personas que aún ven condicionadas sus vidas por los efectos del histórico huracán. La educación, es uno de los aspectos que se vio afectado por este fenómeno atmosférico. Tanto escuelas públicas y privadas, como las universidades del país, tuvieron bajas en sus matrículas. Tras detenerse las clases en la Universidad de Puerto Rico (UPR) por el huracán María, sobre 1,500 estudiantes solicitaron darse de baja. Unas 184,000 personas abandonaron Puerto Rico entre septiembre y noviembre de 2017, tras el paso del huracán María, lo que supone una pérdida del 6 por ciento de la población en un período de tres meses. Al día de hoy, dicha cifra sigue en aumento. A pesar de la situación en el país, y las bajas que también afectaron a la Universidad Interamericana de P.R., esta institución mantuvo la clasificación A- que otorga la agencia acreditadora Standard & Poor’s en su más reciente informe de Ratings Direct, lo que evidencia su solidez como Institución de Educación Superior en Puerto Rico y una sana política fiscal aún luego del paso del huracán María que ocasionó daños a la planta física de la institución. Interamerican University of P.R., inaugurated its new facility in Orlando Orlando, FL - On September 20th, 2017, hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. Its path left great devastation: strong winds, storms, floods and down trees provoked severe damage, in addition, to leaving the Island without power. After almost six months since it passed, Puerto Rican’s are still suffering the effects of that devastating hurricane. It left $94,000 million in damages and approximately, 64 deaths. Public and private schools, as well as all the university’s throughout the island saw a very low student count. During the months from September through November of 2017, 184,000 people left Puerto Rico, leaving a loss of 6% of its population during the three months period after hurricane Maria. Still today the number of people leaving the Island is growing. Not with-standing the situation in the Island and the low student count that affected the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, this institution maintains its A classification status, of the accredited

City Of Kissimmee Actualización del proyecto: reurbanización del Kissimmee Lakefront Park y ensanchamiento de la Oak Street Kissimme, FL - El progreso siempre parece traer una sensación de emoción en el aire. Project update: Kissimmee Lakefront Park redevelopment & Oak Street widening Kissimmee, FL - Progress always seems to bring a feeling of excitement into the air. The City of Kissimmee loves to create new places for our community to gather and beautiful paths for them to get there. Two of the biggest projects we are currently working on is the final phase of the Kissimmee Lakefront Park redevelopment project and the final phase of the Oak Street widening project. It All Comes Down to This The Kissimmee Lakefront Park redevelopment project has been in the works for over a decade. This final phase runs along Lakeshore Boulevard and connects Kissimmee Lakefront Park to Neptune Road. It will also allow for necessary sea wall repair. Phase IV will

add new landscaping, wider sidewalks, bricked roads, additional parking space, and a new traffic signal at Neptune Road and Lakeshore Boulevard. This project is scheduled to be finished by Summer of 2019. We are glad to have Burkhardt Construction as our contractor on this project as they have diligently worked with residents to help them get in and out of the area during construction. Our Public Works teams have already started utility work on Lakeshore Boulevard and are currently installing and repairing water mains along the project area. Getting Close The final phase of the Oak Street widening project is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2018. This portion of the project only requires for one lane to be closed at a time with the westbound lane currently closed. New water mains are being installed along with a new storm water system on the north side of the road. This portion should be completed by the middle

of March. Once this is done and new curbing has been installed, temporary road stripping will be placed, and westbound traffic will be reopened on Oak Street. At that point, our crews will begin working on the eastbound lane. At the end of this project Oak Street will have four lanes from its intersection with East Vine Street, all the way to Thacker Avenue. Thank you for your patience during these improvement projects. Dos hombres arrestados por batería sexual Condado Osceola, FL - El 18 de febrero de 2018, agentes de la policía de Condado Osceola comenzaron una investigación de una mujer adulta que informaba que dos (2) hombres la maltrataron sexualmente en algún momento alrededor del 1 de diciembre de 2017. Two Men Arrested for Sexual Battery Osceola County, FL - On February 18, 2018, deputies began the investigation of an adult female reporting two (2) males sexually battered her sometime around December 1, 2017. The female advised she had known Tyler Bounds for approximately 5 years and agreed to go out with him. Bounds arrived with a male friend the victim did not know, later identified as Steven Schneider. They traveled to Suburban Estates in the area of Holopaw where the men physically restrained the victim and repeatedly took turns forcing her to engage in sex acts. When the victim tried to resist, Bounds burned her with a lit cigarette. The victim received other injuries, which were documented when she sought medical attention following the rape. Additional physical evidence was found in Bound’s vehicle to support the victim’s allegations. Bounds was arrested on February 22, 2018, for Sexual Battery (3 Counts). Schneider was arrested on March 6,

2018, for Sexual Battery (3 Counts) and False Imprisonment (1 Count). Scott’s telomeres (endcaps of chromosomes that shorten as one ages) actually became significantly longer in space. While this finding was presented in 2017, the team verified this unexpected change with multiple assays and genomics testing. Additionally, a new finding is that the majority of those telomeres shortened within two days of Scott’s return to Earth. Another interesting finding concerned what some call the “space gene”, which was alluded to in 2017. Researchers now know that 93% of Scott’s genes returned to normal after landing. However, the remaining 7% point to possible longer term changes in genes related to his immune system, DNA repair, bone formation networks, hypoxia, and hypercapnia.
