Osceola County Naled - Noticias / News Declaración del Condado Osceola en relación a fumigación aérea Condado Osceola, FL – Mientras que las condiciones climáticas han retrasado la fumigación de mosquitos que estaba programada en el Condado Osceola, ha habido cierta desinformación en Internet sobre lo que está haciendo el Condado y por qué. El proceso de aplicar Dibrom (Naled) se ha utilizado con seguridad en el Condado Osceola desde mediados del año 1980 y el producto químico está aprobado para el uso de esta manera desde la década del 1950, con 16 millones de hectáreas tratadas al año con este producto en los Estados Unidos. Hay 70 años de investigación que se han realizado en universidades, la Agencia de Protección Ambiental y otros que prueban que Naled cuando se trata del control de mosquitos es el
producto más seguro en el mercado, muy superior a los demás, el cual es prácticamente inofensivo poco tiempo después de la aplicación. Desafortunadamente, algunos incidentes fuera de nuestra área han creado un malentendido sin fundamento de lo que es una práctica estándar en el Condado Osceola. Si los mosquitos que se encuentran en aguas estancadas no se tratan, las personas pudieran innecesariamente enfermarse de varios virus transmitidos por estos. Debido a las condiciones actuales, tenemos mosquitos llevando estas enfermedades a nuestras comunidades y tienen el potencial para infectar a los seres humanos, todos los seres humanos. Los resultados son devastadores; los seres humanos que contraen EEE tienen un 1% de probabilidades de supervivencia. Osceola County Statement on Aerial Spraying Osceola County, FL – While weather conditions have delayed scheduled aerial spraying for mosquitos in Osceola County, there has been some misinformation spread over the Internet about what the county is doing and why. The process of applying Dibrom (Naled) has been used safely in Osceola County since the middle 1980s and the chemical is approved for use in this fashion since the 1950s, with 16 million acres per year treated with this product in the United States. There is 70 years of research that has been done by universities, the Environmental Protection Agency and others that prove that Naled in the mosquito control setting is the safest product on the market, far superior to any others as it is rendered virtually harmless a very short time after application. Unfortunately, some incidents outside our area have fueled an unfounded misunderstanding of what is standard practice in Osceola County. If the “flood water mosquitos” that are thriving now are left untreated people can become unnecessarily ill from several mosquitoborne viruses. Aerial applications are important because current levels indicate that there is a much higher potential for disease transmission for West Nile Virus (WNV), Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and others (not Zika). As well as being a public
health concern, EEE and WNV can pose a danger to agricultural animals, which can transmit the diseases to humans. Because of the conditions right now, we have mosquitos carrying those diseases in our communities and they have the potential to infect humans, all humans. The results are devastating; humans who contract EEE have a 1% chance of survival. So our protocols have the public’s interest, backed by years of experience and science, as the No. 1 priority. It’s important to note that these treatments are not related to Zika in any way but are in response to “flood water” mosquitos from standing water left behind from recent rains. Osceola County is still not seeing high numbers of the mosquitos that can carry Zika, though counts for other types of mosquitos have increased – from dozens to thousands in a single trap. In fact, there are many residents who welcome the aerial applications as they realize the overriding public health concern. For those who have questions about bee health and potential impacts to bees, it is important to note that the timing of these flights is such that the bees will be in their hives. These planned treatments are exactly the same applications and rates as we did last year at the same time with no negative effects.

Osceola County Adopts FY 2017 Budget Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Commissioners approved a $1.2 billion FY 2017 budget Monday night that advances the county’s strategic plan goals – including improving roads and infrastructure, laying a foundation for the creation of high-paying jobs, supporting affordable housing and healthcare for citizens.

“Our budget drives the level of public safety and services we provide to residents. City of Kissimmee Offers “No School Field Trips” Kissimmee, FL — The City of Kissimmee Parks & Recreation Department will be offering day camps that include field trips when school is out. no School Day Camps are for children ages 5 to 13 years of age. KUA - Noticias / News Junta de KUA honra a Gant en su última reunión Kissimmee, FL - La Junta de Directores de Kissimmee Utility Authority, el miércoles, 14 de septiembre, honró al Dr. George Gant en su última reunión como miembro de la Junta de la empresa. Su mandato actual expira el 30 de septiembre. Desde el 1985, Gant ha servido en una variedad de puestos en la junta, incluyendo director, secretario, secretario asistente, vicepresidente y presidente, así como miembro ex-oficio dos veces mientras se desempeñaba como Alcalde de Kissimmee - para un total de más de 26 años de servicio . KUA Board Honors Gant at Final Meeting Kissimmee, FL – The Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors on Wednesday, September 14, honored Dr. George Gant at his final meeting as a member of the utility board. His current term expires September 30. Since 1985, Gant has served in a variety of roles on the board, including director, assistant secretary, secretary, vice chairman and chairman, as well as an exofficio member twice while serving as Kissimmee’s mayor – totaling more than 26 years of service. In 2015, the board recognized Gant’s years of service by establishing a 25-year college scholarship that bears his name. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2,500 per year to a graduating student residing
Dr George Gant in the KUA service territory. The scholarship is administered by the Education Foundation of Osceola County. Gant is the retired medical director of the Osceola County Health Department. In 2014, he was honored nationally with the American Public Power Association’s Spence Vanderlinden Public Official Award, which recognizes outstanding personal service to APPA by elected and appointed officials.

Kissimmee, FL – The Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Central Florida held last Saturday, September 17, the first annual competition of roast pig in Central Florida "Pernil in the Park". It was held at the Lake Front Park in Kissimmee.
Durante todo el día, los asistentes pudieron disfrutar de música en vivo, artesanías, comida, área de juegos para niños y kioskos de exhibidores con importante información para la comunidad.
Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy live music, crafts, food, playground for children and kiosk displaying important information for the community.

El evento Fiesta de Independencia se llevó a cabo durante la tarde en los terrenos del Consulado de México en Orlando. El Cónsul Juan Sabines presidió la ceremonia de “El Grito de Independencia”, importante tradición mexicana que consta del toque de la campaña, el grito y el canto del himno nacional. La actividad estuvo abierta al público en general y los asistentes disfrutaron de música, mariachis, bailes folklóricos, rifas, regalos y una gran variedad de antojitos mexicanos. También se ofreció información de una amplia gama de servicios especialmente dirigidos a la comunidad hispana.
Mexican Independence Party Kissimmee, FL - Last Sunday, September 17, the Consulate of Mexico in Orlando held a big activity on the occasion of the celebration of the 206th Independence of Mexico. The Independence Party event was held on Sunday afternoon on the Consulate of Mexico grounds in Orlando. The Consul Juan Sabines, presided the "El Grito de Independencia" ceremony, important Mexican tradition consisting of sound of the bell, shouting and singing the national anthem. The activity was open to the general public and attendees enjoyed music, mariachis, folkloric dances, raffles, prizes, and a variety of Mexican dishes. Information from a wide range of services targeted to the Hispanic community was also offered, from selling cars, tools, tractors, crafts and various Mexican products.

Reconocimiento a Editor en la Fiesta de Independencia de México Este pasado domingo, 17 de septiembre, como parte de las festividades de México por el Día de la Independencia, el honorable cónsul de México Juan Sabines Guerrero quiso honrar a nuestro Editor, el Sr. Guillermo Hansen con el Reconocimiento "OHTLI". Ohtli es una palabra en idioma original de México náhuatl, que significa camino y significa "el camino que ha de seguir el corazón y deja huella. El que te ha de llevar a realizar tu destino.

Osceola Arts honors Hispanic Culture Osceola County, FL - During the month of September the Osceola Arts is paying tribute to the area’s Hispanic artists with their debut of two vibrant and eclectic visual art exhibits which is open to the public until October 27.
The second exhibit is entitled “Secrets of the Unconscious Mind”, featuring the work of the contemporary surrealist artist Victor Quino, a Peruvian-born painter and sculptor.
The “Celebrating Hispanic Artists & Culture” exhibit is a juried art show which takes place every year at the center. Artists compete for cash awards including $100 for first place. There was approximately 40 different artists displaying their work at this exhibit. All artwork is either created by a Hispanic/Latino artist or is a depiction of Hispanic/Latino culture by non-Hispanic artists, living in Central Florida.

25th Anniversary El Osceola Star Hace 25 años, mi esposa Yolanda y yo, tuvimos la oportunidad de colaborar en el periódico El Nuevo Osceola Star. Después de un año, decidimos comprarlo y continuar su crecimiento. Como todas las empresas independientes, los primeros años fueron muy difíciles, pero nunca nos dimos por vencidos y es increíble que hayamos llegado hasta aquí. La misión de este periódico siempre ha sido informar y ayudar a la comunidad. Desafortunadamente, a veces subestimamos el impacto y la importancia de las cosas que hacemos tienen en nuestra sociedad. El 18 de julio de 2005, un enorme problema legal se produjo cuando el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos demandó al Condado Osceola por diluir el voto hispano. El gobierno alegó que el Condado estaba manipulando las cosas a través de votaciones generales y no por distrito, para que el voto hispano no tuviese fuerza. En esa ocasión, el Departamento de Justicia Federal pidió al periódico El Osceola Star que con sus artículos fuese su testigo principal, ya que éramos el único punto de referencia en la historia de los hispanos en Osceola. Fue entonces cuando mi esposa y yo nos dimos cuenta de la importancia del trabajo que estábamos haciendo para nuestra comunidad y para el país. Éramos la prueba escrita, el registro de los hechos ocurridos en el Condado Osceola. Por último, tengo que decir que yo no habría sido capaz de lograr todo esto solo, sin el apoyo de la socia de vida, mi esposa Yolanda y del excelente equipo de trabajo con el cual hemos contado todos estos años. Fue también gracias al apoyo de las empresas que siempre han creído y trabajado con nosotros que hemos llegado hasta aquí. The Mission of this newspaper has always been to inform and help the community in whatever issues it is facing. Unfortunately, sometimes we underestimate the impact and importance that the things we do have on our society. In July 18, 2005 a huge legal issue came about when the Government of the United States sued Osceola County for diluting the Hispanic vote. The government alleged that the county was manipulating things through general votes and not by district, so that the Hispanic vote would have no strength. In that occasion the Department of Justice of the United States asked El Osceola Star Newspaper to be the primary witness with its articles, since we were the only point of reference of the history of Hispanics in Osceola. It was then that I and my wife realized how important the work we were doing was to our community and country. We were the written prove, the record, of the events that occurred in Osceola County. Lastly I have to say that I would not have been able to achieve all this alone, without the support of my right hand for life, my wife Yolanda, and the excellent team in which we have relied on all these years. It was also the support of those companies that have always believed and worked with us that brought us here. Internet Child Sex Operation Results in 10 detectives, posed as juveniles Arrests Osceola County, FL - Osceola County Sheriff's detectives concluded a 60-hour undercover operation which resulted in 10 suspects arrested and charged with soliciting sex from a child via the Internet and other sex related crimes. Led by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the operation was conducted as a part of the Central Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Participating agencies included: Altamonte Springs Police Department, Clermont Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Hardee County Sheriff's Office, Kissimmee Police Department, Lake County Sheriff's Office, Manatee County Sheriff's Office, Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff's Office, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Sanford Police Department. A recent study showed that duct tape wiped out more warts than conventional freezing did. In this study, warts were covered with duct tape for six days. Then, the warts were soaked in warm water and rubbed with an abrasive such as pumice stone. The treatment was repeated for as long as two months. However, subsequent research has not found duct tape to be significantly effective for treating warts. You can
treat warts at home with medications from the drugstore. Discuss treatments with your pharmacist. Freezing—or cryotherapy—is one method for removing warts. Burning—or electrosurgery—is an alternative. Lasers are used when other therapies fail. There are also surface-peeling preparations such as salicylic acid. Retinoids, which are medications derived from vitamin A, are used to disrupt a wart's skin cell growth. Another treatment is to inject each wart with an anti-cancer drug called bleomycin. The injections may be painful and can have other side effects. Immunotherapy, which attempts to use the body's own rejection system is an additional treatment method. New warts should be treated as soon as possible to prevent them from shedding virus into nearby skin and creating additional warts.
