Governor Scott Directs Additional State Action for Puerto Rico Washington, D.C. – Governor Rick Scott made the following statement after his meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Governor Scott met with President Trump and Vice President Pence to discuss his trip to Puerto Rico and actions the State of Florida is taking to help Puerto Rico as they recover from Hurricane Maria. Governor Scott also hosted a call with Puerto Rican government officials and Florida state agency leaders today to ensure the State of Florida is doing everything possible to help Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria. Governor Scott said, “Yesterday, at the request of Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló, I visited San Juan, Puerto Rico to help coordinate response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Maria. Puerto Rico is completely

devastated and we have been in constant contact with Governor Rosselló and the Puerto Rican government to offer support as they respond and recover from Hurricane Maria. This morning, I had a call with Puerto Rican government officials, as well as my state agency heads to ensure that our leaders are in contact and the State of Florida is doing everything we can to help. During my meeting with President Trump, I let him know the resources and assets that are needed in Puerto Rico that the federal government could assist with.” • Military support • Law enforcement • Division of emergency management • Health and medical • Transportation & public works • Volunteer Florida • Education

Governor Rosselló on Puerto Rico inequality & Federal Government support San Jua, PR - Any state that would have passed through the situation that Puerto Rico passed, would have had as many challenges or similar challenges to us. And any state passing through this situation would have needed the full support of anybody that’s willing to do it in terms of logistics, supplies and so forth. Of course, we’ve talked early and often about how differentiating the facts of Puerto Rico are. We’re an island and the limitations we have. The strength of the hurricane, the veracity of it. The impact that it had on all of the islands. You know, during this catastrophe, the President, the Vice President, state governments, congressmen, on a bipartisan or a nonpartisan effort have responded to the people of Puerto Rico. Governor Cuomo came over here early and brought resources. Governor Christie, as well, deployed immediately, as well as other 17 governments that have pledged their help directly to the people of Puerto Rico. We have spoken to senators, congressmen, congresswomen, that have pledged their commitment to help Puerto Rico in an aid package that has the critical elements so that we can get through this emergency and then we can start rebuilding effectively, these go all the way from Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, to leader Schumer and Cory Booker. They have pledged their support now. I know that there is more that we need to do. But, it is important that we recognize that the President, state governments are helping, are putting their resources, and just because one of them, or some of them, haven’t put it on a Tweet, does

not mean that they are not working for Puerto Rico. I am here to tell you, as chief executive of Puerto Rico, that they are, that they are working and that they’re working tirelessly so that we can get all of the resources. So I invite all of you to consider, to think of Puerto Ricans as your constituents. Think of Puerto Ricans as constituents of your own state. Think about it as a moral imperative because we are U.S. citizens but more importantly, we’re all equal as human beings. And if we don’t, and if we don’t consider that, because of the inequality that exists, because of the great challenges that we have to embark on, then that presumption of thinking of Puerto Ricans as your constituents might come true because of the massive exodus that it will provoke. So now this generation of Puerto Ricans has had to take on a challenge far greater than others in the past. We had a fiscal situation that became a slumping economy for decades in Puerto Rico. We have a Fiscal Oversight Board. We have zero access to the markets. And on top of that we had two major disasters come to Puerto Rico back to back. I know that this is a huge challenge but I implore you, to everyone, to look at this as a nonpartisan solution. To forget the fighting and to focus on outcomes. And by doing so we will get out of this emergency. We will make sure that we stabilize Puerto Rico and by doing so you will be part of the generation that helps Puerto Rico come out of this stronger than ever.

By Juan Pablo Sabines Orlando, FL - A new season is about to begin for the Orlando Magic, and a lot of things have changed since April, the last time they played. Just as the rest of the NBA, the Magic are getting new uniforms this year. Nike is in charge of the league’s new look, and meanwhile some teams are getting a major renewal, Orlando is staying almost the same. Some minor changes in the neck, sides and stripes, but otherwise, those who wanted a big change for the Magic will have to wait. So far, the team has released 3 uniforms, the symbolic white, blue and black, with a 4th one coming in November. Besides, the Magic, just like the majority of NBA teams, is joining the advertising patch move: Disney will decorate Orlando’s jersey from this season on. A polemic movement in some case, but one could argue that no brand and team go along better that the Magic and Disney. New faces arrived at the Amway Center this preseason as well. Jeff Weltman came from Toronto and was named president of basketball operations on May, and a few days later he hired John Hammond as general manager, former GM of the Milwaukee Bucks. Both are starting their journey this season toward getting Orlando back to the postseason and into an important role in the league. And they both know that the first place

to start is the draft. Jonathan Isaac, power forward from Florida State, was the 6th overall selection for the Orlando Magic in the 2017 draft. Him and Wesley Iwundu, small guard, form the only picks Orlando had this year (the other picks were traded for future drafts). A lot is expected from both player, mostly Isaac, one of the best prospects this year. In an offseason to remember for its big-name trades and signings, the Magic kept it quiet. Jonathon Simmons, from San Antonio, Arron Afflalo, from Sacramento (who had been with the Magic on 2012-14) and Marreese Speights from Los Angeles Clippers (former NBA champion with the Warriors and NCAA champion with the Florida Gators) are the only additions to an already poor roster. Quantity, yet not quite quality, and that’s what the Magic lacks. So, by the time Orlando takes the court on October 18th at the Amway Center, to renew the Florida rivalry against the Miami Heat and officially start the 2017-18 NBA season, a lot will have changed. New uniforms, new ad patch, new president of operations, new GM, new players, and new hope to face a new season.
