Osceola County - Noticias / News La Sociedad Histórica del Condado Osceola presenta corte de cinta de la réplica de una iglesia histórica de 1800 Kissimmee, FL - La Sociedad Histórica del Condado Osceola (OHSC por sus siglas en inglés) organizó la magnífica ceremonia de inauguración y el corte de la cinta de la 1800s Replica Historic Church que se encuentra en el corazón Pioneer Village en Shingle Creek (2491 Babb Rd. Kissimmee, FL 34746) el 7 de junio de 2017 en 10:00 AM. La 1800s Replica Historic Church se basa en la iglesia episcopal de San Pedro. La Iglesia de San Pedro fue consagrada en 1898 después de que el Teniente Coronel William Cadman tomó la iniciativa de recaudar fondos para construir la iglesia. Bodas, ceremonias de renovación de votos y bautizos son algunas de

OCHS presents 1800s Replica Historic Church Ribbon Cutting Kissimmee, FL - The Osceola County Historical Society hosted the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the 1800s Replica Historic Church featured in the heart of the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek (2491 Babb Rd. Kissimmee, FL 34746) on June 7, 2017 at 10AM. The 1800s Replica Historic Church is based on St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. St. Peter’s Church was consecrated in 1898 after Lt. Colonel William Cadman took the lead in raising funds to build the church.

OCHS was awarded a $500,000 Cultural Facility Grant through the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affair, the Florida Council of Arts and Culture and the State of Florida to help fund the construction and furnishing of three 1800s replica buildings: Train Depot, School House and Church. The 1800s Replica Historic Church is the last building to complete the 2015-16 Cultural Facility Grant.

Burn Ban lifted Osceola County, FL – A burn ban for all areas of Osceola County in effect since March 29 was lifted, Fire Chief Robert Sorenson announced. Favorable changes to the KeetchBryan Drought Index over the past days allowed for cancellation of the ban on all types of outside burning. “While recent rains have enabled us to lift the burn ban, residents who wish
to burn are encouraged to take proper precautions, both for their safety, and for the safety of our community,” Sorenson said. Osceola Schools - Noticias / News El Distrito Escolar de Osceola va a tener una feria de empleo El Distrito Escolar de Osceola tendrá una Feria de Empleo para las personas interesadas en convertirse en conductores de autobuses escolares, asistentes de servicios alimentarios, conserjes y personal de mantenimiento el miércoles, 28 de junio durante dos sesiones de 8:00 a.m. a 11:00 a.m. y 3:00 p.m. a 6:00 p.m. en el Departamento de Transportación del distrito (Instalación Principal), localizado en el 401 Simpson Road en Kissimmee. Osceola School District to hold job fair The Osceola School District will be holding a Job Fair for individuals interested in becoming School Bus Drivers, Food Service Assistants, Custodians, and Maintenance personnel on Wednesday, June 28, during two sessions from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the district’s Transportation Department (Main Facility), located at 401 Simpson Road in Kissimmee. Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Gobernador Rosselló Nevares comunicará apoyo de los puertorriqueños a la estadidad ante el Congreso y la Casa Blanca San Juan, PR- El gobernador de Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rosselló Nevares, adelantó que tras el triunfo de la estadidad en la consulta de estatus celebrada en la Isla se trasladará a Washington, DC para notificar los resultados al Congreso, a la Casa Blanca y a varios foros internacionales. El primer ejecutivo destacó que la estadidad obtuvo el 97% de apoyo frente a las otras fórmulas de estatus, lo que representa más de 500,000 votos; alrededor de 33% de participación comparado con votantes en el evento electoral de noviembre de 2016. Mientras, la independencia y la libre asociación recibieron un 1.50 % de los votos y el actual estatus territorial, apenas un 1.3%. Rosselló Nevares felicitó al Pueblo por una vez más demostrar su compromiso ciudadano y hacer valer la democracia. con quienes sufrieron una pérdida hace un año.
A un año de los hechos trágicos del Pulse, la Ciudad y el pueblo de Orlando realizaron un Memorial en honor de las víctimas, precisamente en el lugar de los hechos, donde la presencia de autoridades, familiares de las víctimas y de las personas que abarrotaron el evento fue: el amor gana.
El pastor del Ministerio Hispano de First Baptis Church, Israel Martin, hizo una oración, en que expresó: “no podemos olvidar el sufrimiento de familiares, sobrevivientes, amigos y de la entera ciudad de Orlando por lo ocurrido… Dios, eres el único que puede convertir el dolor en consolación y el sufrimiento en verdadero descanso… hemos visto que en medio del dolor tu continúas enviando ángeles a la ciudad”.
Desde temprana hora de este lunes, cientos de personas llegaron a Pulse, donde diferentes expresiones artísticas tuvieron lugar. Destacaron el mural “Inspiration” que retrata a las víctimas en una obra llena de color, y de las huellas de las manos de familiares y amigos que los extrañan y recuerdan. Durante el Memorial, el “Orlando Gay Chorus” interpretó diversas piezas musicales, que provocaron aplausos, el llanto y abrazos entre los presentes.
Darren Soto, junto a otros Congresistas, también participó en este Memorial, en que se colocaron corazones con flores en memoria de las víctimas, y la sociedad de Orlando convivió con los familiares de quienes fallecieron ese 12 de junio de 2016.

The pastor of the Hispanic Ministry from First Baptist Church of Orlando, Israel Martin, lead a prayer in which he expressed “we cannot forget the suffering of families survivors, friends and the entire City of Orlando for what happened ... God, you are the only one who can turn pain into consolation and suffering into true rest ... we have seen that in the midst of pain you continue to send angels to the city." Pulse Memorial at Consulado de México Recuerdan en el Consulado a los mexicanos caídos en la tragedia de Pulse Orlando, FL- Vigilia en Honor de las 4 víctimas de origen mexicano en el Consulado de México en Orlando - “Ondear banderas de tolerancia por la comunidad migrante”: Cónsul Sabines - Sobreviviente recuerda la pronta respuesta del Consulado, hace un año A un año de la tragedia de Pulse, en el que murieron 49 personas, entre ellos 4 mexicanos. Se celebró en el Consulado de México en Orlando una vigilia en memoria de las víctimas, ante la placa de los mexicanos fallecidos en ese lamentable acontecimiento: Juan Chávez Martínez, Miguel Ángel Honorato Cervantes, Joel Rayón Paniagua y Luis Sergio Vielma Astudillo. En la sede del Consulado, se encendieron velas, y se colocó una ofrenda floral, en la emotiva ceremonia a la que acudieron además dos mexicanos sobrevivientes del Pulse: Javier Nava y César Rodríguez. Javier Nava recordó la pronta respuesta del Consulado de México en el amanecer de este 12 de junio de 2016, en que fue visitado en el Hospital por el Cónsul Titular, Juan Sabines, quien estuvo con él luego de la operación, durante su recuperación, e incluso empujó su silla de ruedas al ser dado de alta. “La tragedia nos ha afectado a todos como comunidad, le tocó a nuestra comunidad mexicana, es importante estar unidos como comunidad… es importante alzar nuestra voz, como persona inmigrante, como latinos y cualquier grupo al que pertenezcamos… el día de hoy es difícil para la ciudad, es un día triste, un día de muchos recuerdos que vienen a tu mente, tenemos que ser fuertes y seguir adelante… vivir unidos y con amor”, expresó Nava ante la comunidad mexicana presente. Por su parte el Cónsul Juan Sabines recordó que las balas de odio, de intolerancia y de discriminación arrebataron sin la más mínima justificación la vida de 49 personas, entre ellos de 4 connacionales, de quienes “estamos decididos a honrar su memoria”.

Con la presencia de los padres del joven Miguel Honorato que falleciera en esa trágica noche, don Alex y Minerva, así como otros familiares y amigos de las víctimas, el Cónsul Juan Sabines agregó que el propio Canciller Luis Videgaray “nos ha instruido estar más activos, más presentes que nunca para prevenir cualquier acto que atente a la dignidad de la comunidad migrante”. “Que no se olvide que las víctimas son ángeles presentes, que su partida abrupta no se olvidará jamás, aquí dejaremos esta placa y estos lirios para que su recuerdo nunca se apague… lejos de que nos invada el odio, que nos invada el amor, la solidaridad, la tolerancia y el respeto a la condición humana de cada quien”, dijo el Cónsul en el emotivo evento.

Valencia ofrece becas para honrar a siete estudiantes muertos en Pulse Orlando, FL - El pasado 8 de junio, Valencia College otorgó siete becas a estudiantes - en memoria de los siete ex alumnos de Valencia que se encontraban entre los 49 muertos en la masacre de Pulse en junio de 2016. Valencia awards Scholarships to honor seven students killed at Pulse Orlando, FL – On June 8, Valencia College awarded seven students scholarships — in memory of the seven former Valencia students who were among the 49 killed in the Pulse massacre in June 2016. The Valencia United LGBT+ Scholarships were handed out at Valencia’s Special Events Center on West Campus in front of an audience of college leadership, faculty and community leaders. Aspiring medical student Osher Ostroff, 24, told the room that the scholarship gets her one step closer to achieving her dream. “My goal is to become a doctor. My dream is to make healthcare more LGBT-friendly, by raising awareness and influencing the culture,” says Ostroff, currently in her third semester at Valencia. Over the past year, Valencia employees, along with members of the Central Florida community, raised more than $43,000 to create an endowed scholarship fund dedicated to the seven students. Students were awarded the Valencia United LGBT+ Scholarship – a $500 scholarship — based on their GPA and an essay that reflects their desire to help create a welcoming climate for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. Scholarship candidates may be members or supporters of the LGBT and/or Latino community who promote diversity and social justice for all people. Donors included students, faculty members, and community groups, including the Central Florida Foundation, which donated $5,000 and Miracle of Love, which contributed $8,000. “Margaret Mead once said, ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the
world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.’ Miracle of Love made our contribution to the Valencia United LGBT+ Scholarship fund to be that small group of thoughtful and committed citizens who want to make change happen here in Central Florida,” said Angus Bradshaw Jr., executive director of Miracle of Love, Inc. “Our hope is that the scholars will give back to the HIV/ AIDS or LGBTQ communities once they’ve completed their degrees in their respective fields.” Carlos Carbonell, a member of the Valencia Foundation board of directors, helped raise funds online and in the community, in an effort to honor those killed at Pulse. On campus, employees contributed through payroll deduction, while students raised money through bake sales and a variety of events. For accounting Professor Lisa Gray, raising money for the scholarship fund was therapeutic and helped her deal with the difficult emotions surrounding the tragedy. “I wanted to make things better. Most important, this was for the parents. I want each of the parents of a Pulse victim to know that their child’s life mattered and will be honored each year through the scholarship, that something positive has come from their loss,” Gray said. “Another reason I worked on this so hard was because I want to increase acceptance and understanding of the LGBT community, so that something like this won’t happen again.” Although the Valencia United LGBT+ Scholarship is now endowed, the Valencia Foundation continues to accept funds to expand the reach of this scholarship. Miami FC derrota a Orlando City por 3-1 en Open Cup Por: Sophia Hernández Orlando FL - El 14 de junio, el viaje de Orlando City en el U.S. Open Cup de los Estados Unidos comenzó en la cuarta ronda contra el Miami FC. La U.S Open Cup es la competición futbolística más larga de Estados Unidos. Aquí es donde los clubes de MLS se unen en la cuarta ronda, y se reúnen equipos de las divisiones inferiores del fútbol americano, NASL, USL y ligas semi-profesionales y aficionadas, por un lugar en la octava ronda. FC se apoderó del estadio de los Lions con el truco de sombrero de Stéfano Pinho que dejó a todos en estado de shock. Él anotó 3 veces con la ayuda de sus compañeros de equipo. El Miami FC definitivamente entró en el partido con sus ojos en
el premio al igual que Orlando City, pero la única diferencia fue que sus cabezas estaba más en el juego. Miami FC defeats Orlando City 3-1 in U.S Open Cup By: Sophia Hernandez Orlando FL - On June 14th, Orlando City's journey in the U.S. Open Cup began in the 4th round against Miami FC. The U.S Open Cup is the longest-running national soccer competition in the US. This is where MLS clubs join in the fourth round, and meet teams from American soccer’s lower divisions, NASL, USL and semi-pro and amateur leagues, for a spot in the Round of 16. The North American Soccer League Team (NASL) Miami FC took over the Lion’s stadium with Stéfano Pinho’s hat trick that left everyone in shock. He scored 3 times from the help of his teammates. Miami FC definitely went into the match with their eyes on the prize just like Orlando City but the only difference was their head was more in the game. Orlando City’s player Giles Barnes scored at minute 78, this lead fans to cheer throughout the stadium.
The game was practically over by then since there was no way they could match or overcome Miami FC’s score. This was definitely a tough game, and this was the first time Orlando City lost its first match of the tournament. Their next match will be against Montreal Impact returning back to the MLS play at 7:30pm on June 17th. I believe they will redeem themselves in this game, moving forward stronger and pulling through as a team physically, mentally and tactically.

The closure was a result of drought conditions that have reduced water levels in Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee Basin. Injury and lock damage could occur when boats pass through these structures at water levels below any of the designated safety limits. The S-193 lock at Taylor Creek in Okeechobee County will return
to operations on Saturdays and Sundays between 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. beginning on Saturday, June 10, 2017. All other locks will reopen when the lake returns to 12.51 feet. On the south shore, the S-310 lock at Clewiston in Hendry County will remain open even as low lake levels continue. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the locks leading from the lake to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers. The very amusing event full of entertainment and laughter was performed for the first time in this city, and was a great success. The show was produced by The Osceola Star in order to raise funds for the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando. Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando is the largest non-profit organization in Central Florida dedicated to providing scholarships to Hispanic students pursuing a college or university degree. The show was not only attended by the Puerto Rican community from various parts of Florida, but also with representatives from several Hispanic countries. Attendees enjoyed a comedy where there was lots of entertainment, laughter and singing from beginning to end. If you have not had the opportunity to see Josué Torres in person, be aware of the dates of his upcoming performances, one of them could be near you.
