Clerk of Court Armando Ramírez Thanks the Community Osceola County, FL - On Thanksgiving Day, Osceola County Court Clerk Honorable Armando Ramirez, along with Unidos Supermarket on Simpson Road in Kissimmee, gave away approximately 300 turkeys to families with limited economic resources. The event, was held on Monday, November 21, it is the fourth celebrated by the Court Clerk, who established the activity as a tradition in his personal character, in gratitude to the voters who honored him with the election and with the re-election in the month of November Families, most of them Hispanics, were identified by the pastors of the District 2 churches, including Mills Run, BVL, Lakeside, Remington, among other areas. Mr. Ramirez's goal is to expand the program every year and that all households have reasons to celebrate.

Osceola Creates New Transportation Department of SunRail. Olore will work Osceola County, FL – In a move that emphasizes the importance of transportation to its future, the County Commission approved the County Manager’s request to create a Transportation Department. Hired as the Executive Director of Transportation and Transit was Tawny Olore. Olore will be in charge of the county’s long-range transportation plan and will coordinate with local, regional, and national partners. Olore has more than 27 years of transportation engineering experience. For the last decade as Program Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation, she had management oversight and responsibility for all aspects
with the two local expressway authorities, LYNX, SunRail and MetroPlan. She will shepherd the development of Osceola’s first Bus Rapid Transit project, which is critical to connecting SunRail. She also will consolidate and direct traffic planning, traffic engineering and the Advanced Traffic Management System. While with SunRail, Olore’s duties included guiding local partners through the federal funding process and coordinating oversight of the tasks association with the state purchase of an active freight line for use as passenger rail. She received her bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine and her masters in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Maine and in Florida.

Osceola Schools - Noticias / News Escuela Superior Celebration – producciones “Off Book” obtiene premio “Critics Choice” Durante el fin de semana “Off Book Productions” viajó a la Esucela Superior Merit Island para competir en las XI Evaluaciones de Actuación de Teatro por representaciones de un acto. Los estudiantes presentaron su versión actuada de la hermana Jerry Finnegan a un público entusiasta, que le dio una ovación al finalizar la dramatización (algo inusual en el festival). Durante la crítica oral de la representación, se les dijo a los estudiantes que el “nivel de teatro que los estudiantes trajeron estaba muy por encima del nivel de escuela superior” y su producción “les dio esperanza para lo que se avecina en la próxima generación para el teatro”. El sábado en la
noche, el show fue premiado con un rango ‘Superior’ de los cinco jueces y calificaciones casi perfectas. Los jueces también seleccionaron al grupo para el permio “Critics Choice” (anteriormente conocido como “Best of Show), lo cual significa que es lo mejor de las 24 representaciones en el festival. Celebration High – Off Book Productions Earn Critics Choice Award Over the weekend, Off Book Productions traveled to Merritt Island High School to compete in the District XI Theatre Performance Assessments for one-act plays. Students presented their one-act version of Jerry Finnegan's Sister to a very enthusiastic crowd, which gave them a standing ovation at the end of the play (a rare occurrence at the festival). During the oral critique of the show, the students were told that the "level of theatre [the students] brought was well above high school level," and their production "gave them hope for what is coming in the next generation of theatre." On Saturday
night, the show was awarded with Superior ratings from all five of the judges and near perfect scores. The judges also selected the show for their Critics Choice award (formerly Best of Show), which means it was the best of the 24 shows at the festival. This award means Celebration High will be taking the show to States in March. KUA- Noticias / News KUA anuncia ganadores del Concurso de Calendario de Seguridad Eléctrica Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority anunció los ganadores de su 23r Concurso del Calendario Anual de Arte Estudiantil. Abierto a los estudiantes del Condado Osceola desde kindergarten hasta quinto grado, el concurso está diseñado para promover la seguridad eléctrica entre los estudiantes y sus familias. Este año, se recibieron un total de 1,944 entradas de 33 escuelas primarias del Condado Osceola, incluyendo escuelas públicas, privadas y “chárter”. Un panel de jueces se reunió la semana pasada y seleccionó 12 entradas - una por cada mes del calendario - que serán presentadas en el Calendario 2017 de Seguridad Eléctrica de KUA. Electrical Safety Calendar Contest Winners Announced Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee Utility Authority today announced the winners of its 23rd annual student calendar art contest. Open to Osceola County students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the contest is designed to promote electrical safety among students and their families. This year, a total of 1,944 entries were received from 33 Osceola County elementary schools, including public, private and charter schools. A panel of judges met last week and selected 12 entries – one for each calendar month – that will be featured in KUA's 2017 Calendar of Electrical Safety. This year marks the second win for Samarah Sobredo who also was a winner in 2015. In addition, winner Angelina Ikram is the sister of Isabella Ikram who won in 2015. Finally, this is first time in contest history that siblings have won in the same year, with Alanis and Loreinys Rivera. The 12 winning students will have their artwork featured in the 2017 calendar and receive a $150 cash prize. The grand prize winner’s name and artwork will be featured on the calendar cover and affixed to a KUA bucket truck for one year. The grand prize winner’s school, Kissimmee Charter Academy, will receive $750 in art supplies, and Flora Ridge Elementary will receive $500 in art supplies for submitting the most total entries in the contest. The calendars will be distributed free of charge, beginning in late December.

A 48 foot Balsam Fir from Vermont decorated with 2,500 electric bulbs in red, white, and green served as the first National Christmas Tree which was lit by President Coolidge
on Christmas Eve 1923. Today the tradition continues and is one of the most beloved holiday events in Washington DC. This year for the 94th year, the Chrismas Tree lighting took place on Thursday, December 1st at 4:30 pm EST, by President Barack Obama.

Scott Recognizes Trooper Robert Ducker with the Governor’s Medal of Heroism Tampa, FL – On December 5th, Governor Rick Scott highlighted that he will propose a five percent pay raise for sworn state law enforcement officers in his 20172018 recommended budget. Governor Scott will recommend $11.7 million to reward these officers for their life saving work. The State of Florida has nearly 4,000 sworn state law enforcement officers who work around the clock to protect Florida communities and make sure Florida is the safest place to live and raise a family. During his law enforcement budget highlight, Governor Rick Scott recognized Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Ducker with the
Governor’s Medal of Heroism for his bravery during a life threatening incident earlier this year. On June 14, 2015, Lieutenant Taylor made contact with a red pickup truck being operated without headlights, the passenger in the vehicle ambushed Lieutenant Taylor, aiming and discharging a revolver numerous times striking Taylor once in his shoulder. He was able to find cover and returned fire with his service weapon, fatally wounding the passenger. After fleeing, the driver of the vehicle was located by assisting Troopers and charged with Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer and SecondDegree Felony Murder. Lieutenant Taylor was awarded with the Florida Highway Patrol’s Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart. Lieutenant Taylor truly exemplifies the mission of the Florida Highway Patrol for service, integrity, courtesy, professionalism, innovation and excellence.

“México siempre estará de Moda” Por B. Margarita Zerrate Orlando, FL El pasado 2 de diciembre, en las instalaciones del Consulado de México en Orlando - Florida, se llevó a cabo la exhibición “México de Moda”. La finalidad del evento era conmemorar el legado cultural de este país azteca. Se dieron cita destacados exponentes del arte plástico, textil y artesanal. En primera instancia se presentó la colección “Eternamente Frida” de
la diseñadora de modas colombiana Claudia Gutiérrez, donde se plasmó la magna obra del reconocido artista plástico colombiano Alberto Quintero. Posteriormente se presentaron las creaciones de las diseñadoras de moda mexicanas, Fabiola Ramos y Janet Castañón donde el colorido, genialidad y belleza, fueron la nota constante. Hubo un compendio de colores, música, belleza, glamur y talento. Los presentes fueron testigos de la exquisitez de las creaciones
de los diseñadores, los pintores y los maestros artesanos, muchos de estos últimos venidos directamente desde México para participar en el evento, como fue el caso de la Artesana Oaxaqueña Mayra Verónica Méndez. También hubo el significativo aporte de Marcas como “Rojo Real”, “Pekora”, “Maka”, “Kors”, la participación excelsa de Mina Álvarez en la línea de accesorios, la línea de bolsas “Jana” y la presentación del Ballet Folklórico Tradicional de
Oaxaca, con el maestro y coreógrafo Fermín Ramírez López y la bailarina Hanna Becerril. Fue una noche mágica, con sabor a México, donde los presentes deleitamos nuestros sentidos, y sensibilizamos las almas. St Cloud - Noticias / News Personal de servicios públicos del Municipio de St. Cloud comienza campaña de prevención St. Cloud, FL – El personal de Servicios Públicos del Municipio de St. Cloud ha comenzado una campaña muy importante, especialmente durante los días festivos. La campaña está nombrada ‘Cool It - Can It - Trash It FOG Prevention’ (Enfríalo Ponlo en una Lata - Tíralo a la Basura Prevención FOG). El personal comenzó la campaña para recordarles a sus clients a que eliminen todas las grasas y aceites (FOG, por sus siglas en inglés) en la manera adecuada. “La acumulación de grasas o aceites (FOG) dentro de nuestro sistema de alcantarillado público causa un bloqueo severo en las tuberías de alcantarillado y atascos son causados por tuberías de alcantarillado bloqueadas”, dijo Chris Fasnacht, el director de operaciones de Servicios Públicos. “Con los días festivos acercándose, la mayoría de nuestros clientes estarán cocinando más de lo ordinario y creando más FOG. Nuestros clientes necesitan seguir las reglas generales para evitar atascos en el hogar y en nuestras calles, y también evitar limpieza y mantenimiento costosos. Eliminación adecuada también previene contaminación del agua”.
La campaña ‘Cool It - Can It - Trash It FOG Prevention’ se centra en las siguientes reglas generales: • No vierta grasa por el desagüe ni por el triturador de basura. The Kissimmee Police Department has been looking for new and unconventional ways to get crime prevention messaging out to the community. Beginning Friday, December 9, 2016 the Lock It or Lose It public service announcement will be running on the Regal Cinema movie screens at the Loop. The 15 second spot urges citizens to lock their car door and remove valuables from vehicles. The spot will run before every movie every day and looped into the lobby preview screens until December 29, 2016.
In addition to the movie theater advertising, the Department began a Lock It or Lose It Facebook campaign ad in mid-November and it is slated to run through the end of the year. This 30 second public service announcement has reached over 50,000 people and has been viewed 14,000 times to date. “In the month of November 34% of the vehicle burglaries occurred to unlocked vehicles with property in plain view. Taking the crime prevention message of Lock It or Lose It to theaters and social media significantly increases our audience. Our hope is more citizens remember to lock their vehicles and secure their valuables, especially during the busy Holiday Season,” said Chief Jeff O’Dell.

Orlando Magic comienza la semana con una racha de tres victorias Orlando, FL - El Orlando Magic comenzó la semana caliente con una racha de tres victorias.
