Elecciones Históricas Kissimmee, FL - El martes, 8 de noviembre de 2016, resultó ser un año de elecciones históricas para el Condado Osceola. Hubo muchos resultados sorprendentes y nuevos récords dentro de la comisión. Por primera vez en la historia del Condado, habrá tres mujeres ocupando puestos como Comisionadas; Peggy E. Choudhry, electa Comisionada del Condado Osceola - Distrito 1, quien se unirá a las incumbentes Viviana Janer y Cheryl Grieb. También por primera vez en la historia del Condado habrá dos puestos ocupados por hispanos; Janer y Choudhry. En la Ciudad de Kissimmee, con la elección de Olga Gonzalez como Comisionada para la Silla 1, se retiene la mayoría Hispana dentro de la Comisión. Y con la elección de Angela M. Eady, para la Silla 3, se repite una mayoría de mujeres.

José A. Álvarez también hizo historia en esta Elección General 2016 convirtiéndose en el primer alcalde hispano de Kissimmee. Una de las razones que hizo posible esto es la afluencia de votantes hispanos. El Condado Osceola tiene 196,325 votantes registrados y el martes 8 de noviembre se emitieron un récord de 142,662 votos, lo que significa que la participación de los votantes alcanzó su máximo histórico de 72.67%. Las estadísticas electorales de este año han aumentado considerablemente desde la Elección General de 2012, donde la participación electoral fue del 67%. El voto hispano ha aumentado significativamente dentro de la política federal, estatal y local y esperamos ver este crecimiento en futuras elecciones.

Elecciones Históricas Kissimmee, FL – Tuesday, November 08, 2016 proved to be an historic election year for Osceola County. There were many surprising results and new records set within the commission. For the first time in the County’s history there will be two women sitting as Commissioners; Peggy E. Choudhry, Osceola County Commissioner elected for District 1, who is going to serve with incumbents Vivian Janer and Cheryl Grieb. Also for the first time in history there will be two seats occupied by Hispanic in the County; Janer and Choudhry. Olga Gonzalez won her election for City of Kissimmee Commissioner—Seat 1, this means the Hispanic majority within the City is going to prevail. And with the election

of Angela M. Eady as City of Kissimmee—Seat 3, there is going to be a majority of women again. Jose A. Alvarez also made this 2016 General Election historic by becoming the first Hispanic Mayor of Kissimmee. One of the reasons which made this possible is the influx of Hispanic voters. Osceola County has 196,325 registered voters and on Tuesday, November 8 a record breaking 142,662 ballots were cast meaning the voter turnout was at an all-time high at 72.67%. This year’s voting statistics have increased considerably since the 2012 General Election where the voter turnout was 67%. The Hispanic vote has increased significantly within Federal, State and local politics and we hope to see this growth in future elections.

hosted the event. Mr. Bob Healy was Master of Ceremonies. They had Mr. Jack Elbon, a Korean War Veteran, who wrote a book several years ago of his memoirs in Korea. He read one chapter of his book having everyone in tears! They had several Veterans that lead and sang songs to the group. Excellent event.

USCIS Hosts Naturalization Ceremonies on Veterans Day U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted more than 40 Veterans Day-themed naturalization ceremonies across the country this year, where veterans, service members and military spouses became America’s newest citizens. Of those being naturalized, many are veterans, service members and military spouses, to which we as a nation owe a special gratitude. November Supermoon a Spectacular Sight The moon is a familiar sight in our sky, brightening dark nights and reminding us of space exploration, past and present. The supermoon — on Monday, November 14 — will be especially “super” because it’s the closest full moon to Earth since 1948. We won’t see another supermoon like this until 2034. The moon’s orbit around Earth is slightly elliptical so sometimes it is closer and sometimes it’s farther away. When the moon is full as it makes its closest pass to Earth it is known as a supermoon. At perigee — the point at which the moon is closest to Earth — the moon can be as much as 14 percent closer to Earth than at apogee, when the moon is farthest from our planet. The full moon appears that much larger in diameter and because it is larger shines 30 percent more moonlight onto the Earth. The biggest and brightest moon for observers in the United States was on Monday morning just before dawn. On Monday, Nov. 14, the moon was at perigee at 6:22 a.m. EST and “opposite” the sun for the full moon at 8:52 a.m. EST (after moonset for most of the US). This was actually the second of three supermoons in a row, so if the clouds didn’t cooperate for you last weekend, you will have another

chance next month to see the last supermoon of 2016 on Dec. 14. NASA scientists have studied the moon for decades. A better understanding of our moon helps scientists infer what is happening on other planets and objects in the solar system. “The moon is the Rosetta Stone by which we understand the rest of the solar system,” Petro said. LRO has been mapping the moon’s surface and capturing high resolution images for more than seven years. Extensive mapping of the moon aids scientists in understanding our planet’s history, as well as that of planetary objects beyond the Earth-moon system. “Because we have the Apollo samples, we can tie what we see from orbit to those surface samples and make inferences about what has happened to the moon throughout its lifetime,” Petro said. “The samples tell us how old certain lunar surfaces are, and based on the number of impact craters on those surfaces, we can estimate the ages of the rest of the moon. Furthermore, we can then apply those models to estimate the ages of surface on other planets in our solar system — all by studying the moon!”

Arrestan padres por Negligencia Infantil Condado Osceola, FL – El 11 de noviembre, aproximadamente a las 3:09 p.m., los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola y el equipo de Bomberos del Condado Osceola respondieron a una residencia en Nancy Court en referencia a un incendio residencial. A su llegada, los agentes hablaron con una vecina quién indicó que estaba pasando por la residencia, cuando observó humo que salía desde adentro y dos niños pequeños cerca de la puerta principal. Le hizo un gesto a los niños para que vinieran a ella, pero regresaron a su casa para vestirse. Ella corrió hacia la residencia y los sacó fuera. Le dijeron que su padre estaba de camino a casa. Los niños sufrieron lesiones leves y fueron tratados en la escena. A eso de las 3:30 p.m. el padre llegó a casa. Este indicó que se había ido

a trabajar al mediodía y que los niños estaban bajo el cuidado de su madre, pero ésta tuvo que ir a trabajar y él no pudo llegar a la casa antes de que ella se fuera. La madre regresó a la casa aproximadamente a las 6:15 p.m. Según los niños, esta no fue la primera vez que los padres los dejaban solos. Les dijeron a los agentes que estaban jugando con un encendedor, encendieron una taza en llamas y la pusieron en un cajón. Sobre la base de la información, ambos padres, Jonathan LópezBanos y Rosmarie Medina-Arroyo fueron arrestados y acusados de Negligencia Infantil. Los niños de 6 y 8 años fueron puestos bajo la custodia del Departamento de Niños y Familias.

Suspect Arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Osceola County, FL – On November 13 at approximately 6:40 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on Coral Palms Court in Kissimmee in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with witnesses who indicated Rochelle Gilbert was involved in a verbal dispute with the victim. They observed Gilbert, who was holding an infant, retrieve a large kitchen knife and attempt to stab the victim. Gilbert left the scene, but deputies were able to locate her a short distance away. She was interviewed and told deputies she became involved in a verbal dispute with the victim, but denied attacking

Rochelle Gilbert (DOB 7/6/88) him with a knife. Deputies located the kitchen knife in her vehicle. Based on the witness statements and the evidence, Gilbert was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. She was booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond.

Osceola County, FL – On November 11, at approximately 3:09 p.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies and Osceola County Fire Rescue responded to a residence on Nancy Court in reference to a residential fire. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a neighbor who indicated she was driving by the residence and observed smoke coming from inside and two small children near the front door. She motioned for the children to come to her but they went back inside to get dressed. She ran into the residence and brought them outside. They told her their father was on his way home from work. The children sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. At approximately 3:30 p.m. their father arrived home. He

indicated he left for work at noon and the children were in the care of their mother, but she had to go to work and he was unable to get home before she left. Their mother returned home at approximately 6:15 p.m. According to the children, this was not the first time the parents have left them home alone. They told deputies they were playing with a lighter, lit a cup on fire and placed it in a drawer. Based on the information, both parents, Jonathan Lopez-Banos and Rosmarie Medina-Arroyo were arrested and charged with child neglect. The children, ages 6 and 8 were placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
