Hispanic Heritage Month Mes de la Herencia Hispana: del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre Washington - En septiembre del 1968, el congreso autorizó al Presidente Lyndon B. Jonson la proclamación de la Semana Nacional de la Herencia Hispana, la cual se celebraba durante la semana que incluía el 15 y 16 de septiembre. La celebración fue expandida en el 1988 por el Congreso a un mes completo de celebración, del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre, efectivo desde el próximo año. América celebra la cultura y las tradiciones de aquellos que tienen sus raíces en España, México y las naciones de habla hispana de América Central, Sur América y el Caribe. El 15 de septiembre fue escogido como el punto de comienzo de la celebración porque es el aniversario de la independencia de cinco países de Latinoamérica: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua. Además, México y Chile celebran su independencia los días 16 y 18 de septiembre, respectivamente. La población hispana de los Estados Unidos al 1ero de julio de 2015, era 56.6 millones, haciendo a

los hispanos el mayor grupo o raza étnico minoritaria de la nación. Los hispanos constituyen el 17.6 por ciento de la población total de la nación. La población hispana proyectada para los Estados Unidos para el 1ero de julio de 2050 es 132.8 millones. De acuerdo con esta proyección, los hispanos van a comprender el 30 por ciento de la población nacional para esa fecha. El número de hispanos contados durante el Censo 2010 fue 50.5 millones. Esto es cerca de un 43 por ciento de aumento en la población hispana desde el Censo del 2000, cuando el conteo fue de 35.3 millones. El porcentaje de personas de origen hispano en los Estados Unidos con herencia Mexicana en el 2010 es 63%. Un 9.2 por ciento son de origen Puertorriqueño, 3.5 por ciento son Cubanos, 3.3 por ciento son Salvadoreños y 2.8 por ciento son Dominicanos. El resto pertenecen a algún otro país de Centro América, Sur América o de otro origen Hispano/Latino.

Hispanic Heritage Month 2016: Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 Washington - In September 1968, Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week, which was observed during the week that included Sept. 15 and Sept. 16. The observance was expanded in 1988 by Congress to a month long celebration, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, effective the following year. America celebrates the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanishspeaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. Sept. 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Sept. 16 and Sept. 18, respectively. The Hispanic population of the United States as of July 1, 2015 was 56.6 million, making people of

Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority. Hispanics constituted 17.6 percent of the nation’s total population. The projected Hispanic population of the United States on July 1, 2050 is 132.8 million. According to this projection, Hispanics will constitute 30 percent of the nation’s population by that date. The number of Hispanics counted during the 2010 Census was 50.5 million. This was about a 43 percent increase from the Hispanic population in the 2000 Census, which was 35.3 million. KUA - Noticias / News KUA celebra logro con su programa de redondeo: cliente 2,500 Kissimmee, FL - El 1 de septiembre de 2016 - Kissimmee Utility Authority anunció que ha llegado a 2,500 clientes inscritos en su programa Kissimmee Round-Up, una iniciativa de la comunidad que proporciona asistencia de servicios públicos a los necesitados. Puesto en marcha por la empresa en diciembre de 2013, el programa reúne las contribuciones voluntarias de los clientes participantes de redondear sus cuentas mensuales al siguiente dólar. KUA Celebrates ‘Round-Up’ Milestone: 2,500th Customer KISSIMMEE, FL - On September 1, 2016 Kissimmee Utility Authority announced that it has reached 2,500 customer sign-ups for its Kissimmee Round-Up program, a community initiative that provides utility assistance to those in need. Launched by the utility in December 2013, the program gathers voluntary contributions from participating customers by “rounding up” their monthly bills to the next dollar. For example, a customer’s bill of $110.73 would be automatically rounded up to $111.00, with the additional 27 cents going to the utility’s Good Neighbor Utility Assistance Fund. The Good Neighbor Utility Assistance Fund provides emergency utility bill payment

assistance to individuals and families in Kissimmee facing a temporary financial crisis. The fund dispersed nearly $65,000 in 2015. On average, customers participating in Kissimmee RoundUp will contribute 50 cents each month. The most a customer would ever contribute in a single month would be 99 cents per account. By expanding that donation over a year, it could result in an average donation of roughly six dollars per year. Customers wishing to participate in the program can opt to have their bills automatically rounded up each month or make a one-time donation. KUA Joins Tallahassee Power Restoration and supplies to assist crews Effort Kissimmee, FL. - Responding to a request from a hurricane-battered utility, crews from Kissimmee Utility Authority traveled to Tallahassee on September 2nd in the morning to assist with the restoration of power. As part of KUA’s mutual-aid agreement with utilities throughout the state, the utility sent 10 linemen and a convoy of vehicles

in Tallahassee. Tallahassee is working to restore service to 70,000 customers who lost power after Hurricane Hermine battered the area overnight. Those who traveled from KUA includes Lars Akkerman, Jamie Boswell, Allen Carver, Robert Diaz, Danny Kelly, Dustin Kelley, Jon Latiolais, Kevon McKinsey, Shane Paras and Bob Viele.

Osceola Schools - Noticias / News Estudiante de Osceola triunfa en competencia nacional de Artes Plásticas Kissimmee, FL - El trabajo de Débora Cordero, estudiante de artes visuales de la Escuela Superior Osceola, ha sido seleccionado como el ganador del premio 2016 National Fine Arts “Best in Show” del Boys & Girls Clubs of America. El trabajo premiado fue diseñado para representar lo que significa el pertenecer a un Club, para ella y para todos los jóvenes que hacen del Boys & Girls Club parte de su vida. Débora pintó su diseño original del mural en el Boys & Girls Club de Harlem, New York. Osceola Student Wins National Fine Arts Lowe's, will renovate one club in each of Competition Kissimmee, FL - Osceola High visual art student Debora Cordero's artwork has been selected as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 2016 National Fine Arts “Best in Show” winner. Her winning artwork was designed to represent what belonging to a Club means to her and all the young people who make Boys & Girls Clubs part of their lives. Debora painted her original mural design in the Harlem, New York, Boys & Girls Club. The Renovation Across the Nation Grant, a $2.5 million initiative through its national partnership with

the fifty states, the largest single initiative ever undertaken by Lowe's. Debora's artwork will be stenciled and painted in each of the 50 locations across the nation, and she has been featured on Good Morning America. “Over the last six years, my Club has empowered my passion for art, and I’ve been supported by the mentors and friends who have encouraged me along the way,” said Debora Cordero. “When sketching the mural, I wanted to bring the values, growth, and opportunities that come with being a Club member to life through my design.”

For Osceola County Sheriff Russell Gibson (D) Gibson retired from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office on December 29, 2015, to run for the Office of Sheriff full time with nearly 28 years of service. He began his career with the Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer and was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His most recent experience was Sergeant over the Community Services Division supervising 12 School Resource Officers and 53 Crossing Guards employed by the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigation Arrest Warrant Issued for Two Suspects St. Cloud, FL – On August 21st, 2016, at approximately 10:16 p.m., members from the St. Cloud Police Department responded to a suspicious death investigation. The victim was identified as Rene Tirado Jr. His body was found inside one of two vehicles fully engulfed in flames. The investigation was later reclassified as a “Homicide Investigation”. On September 6th, 2016, detectives from the Criminal Investigative Services Division obtained two arrest warrants for Jorge Molina Olivo and Annasto Anieal Bryan. The suspect’s charges are as follows:

Premeditated Murder; Conspiracy to Commit Premeditated Murder; Arson; Abuse of Dead Human Body; and Destruction of Evidence. Olivio is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail with a zero bond. Bryan is currently “ATLARGE”. Despite letting Montreal score early Orlando responded and dominated the rest of the match. Just two minutes after Drogba scored Orlando’s Brek Shea responded after a pass from Carlos Rivas. The score remained equal until the 38th minute of play. Rivas got his second assist of the night when he found Kaka. Kaka was able to slot the ball on the near side and take the lead. Joe Bendik made numerous saves throughout the night and continued to prove to be one of Orlando’s most valuable assets.

In the second half, Orlando doubled their goals. In the 53rd minute, Montreal’s goalkeeper, Evan Bush, was sent off with a red card for a dangerous foul in the box on Carlos Rivas. Kaka took the penalty kick and brought Orlando’s lead up 3-1. In their final goal of the match, Julio Baptista sent a long ball up to Rivas who took a powerful shot. The 4-1 win over Montreal placed Orlando just ahead of DC United in the 6th and final spot for playoffs. Orlando faces some tough matches in their final 7 matches of the regular season. This Sunday, Orlando will play the Galaxy in Los Angeles. Orlando’s next home match is September 17th against the Columbus Crew.
