ORMC New Pediatric Department
Kissimmee, FL - Osceola Regional Medical Center y el Sistema de Salud de Nemours Children inauguró recientemente el nuevo Departamento de Pediatría del hospital. La instalación, de $7 millones de dólares, ofrece lo último de la tecnología e incluye una unidad de seis habitaciones pediátrica de cuidados intensivos (PICU, por sus siglas en inglés) la primera en el Condado Osceola.
Kissimmee, FL – On Saturday, June 4, Osceola Regional Medical Center and Nemours Children’s Health System hosted a community open house at the hospital’s newly opened, stateof-the art Pediatric Department. The $7 million facility includes a six-room pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) – the first in Osceola County.

The 14,000 square foot expansion more than quadruples the size of the previous pediatric area. In addition to the PICU, the department includes eight pediatric private rooms and a recently renovated Pediatric Emergency Department. This new facility enables ORMC and Nemours to provide a more cohesive pediatric program through expanded specialist services and 24/7 medical coverage. The White House El Presidente Obama y El Vicepresidente Biden se Reúnen con Familiares de Victimas Orlando, FL - El presidente Obama aterrizó en el aeropuerto Internacional de Orlando, a bordo de Air Force One, al lado de la congresista demócrata Corrine Brown y seguido por el senador republicano Marco Rubio. En la pista de aterrizaje le recibieron, según confirmó la Casa Blanca: el gobernador de Florida, Rick Scott, el senador demócrata por Florida Bill Nelson, el alcalde de Orlando, Buddy Dyer; y la alcaldesa del Condado Orange, Teresa Jacobs.
El presidente se reunió con familiares de las víctimas de la matanza en la discoteca Pulse de Orlando. The President met with relatives of the victims of the massacre at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Most of the 49 dead and 53 wounded so far identified were Hispanic, and many of them were homosexuals. The President and the Vice President met with law enforcement officials to thank them for their work in response to the shootings at the Pulse nightclub Sunday morning.

DACA four years later Four years ago, I stood with my colleagues in the White House Rose Garden watching President Obama announce a new action to make our immigration policies smarter and more representative of our values as a nation. This action, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, establishes an avenue for young people who were brought to the United States as children to request temporary relief from deportation on a case-by-case basis if they can demonstrate that they meet several criteria. As the President said that day, the young people impacted by his announcement "are Americans in their hearts, in their minds, in every single way but one: on paper." We knew standing there that DACA would be impactful, both for the people who would come forward, and for the rest of us who are their families, friends and neighbors.
Even so, the impact DACA recipients have had on their families, communities, and our nation can only be described as extraordinary. They are students, educators, doctors, and lawyers; close to 730,000 DACA recipients are aspiring Americans, each with a unique story. They know, perhaps better than anyone, that for all of its impact, DACA is not a permanent solution to our nation’s immigration problems. Far from it. We still need Congress to do its job and fix our immigration system. But the promise I see in the eyes of DACA recipients I meet renews my hope in what’s possible, and offers a glimpse of what we might achieve for the country when we finally achieve legislative reform. Más de 8,600 conductores viajaron por Poinciana Parkway durante los dos primeros días. Lookng out for future transportation needs By: Fred Hawkins, Jr., Osceola County Commissioner – District 5, Central Florida Expressway Authority Board Member. More than 8,600 drivers rode on the Poinciana Parkway during its first two days. They were drawn by the faster, more convenient commute the road offers—savings of as much as 15 minutes one way if your destination is Walt Disney World or International Drive. Working with the Osceola County Expressway Authority to get the Poinciana Parkway built and open has been one of my top priorities since I first became an Osceola County commissioner in 2008. As some of you may know, I also have been serving as Osceola’s representative on the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) board for the past two years. That’s important because CFX is responsible for collecting tolls for the parkway, which now is open from US/17/91 to Marigold Avenue. Today, CFX handles design, construction, operation and maintenance of a 109-mile expressway system, all of it in Orange County. However as of 2014 CFX is able to build in Lake, Osceola and Seminole and the agency is studying what roads might be needed in those counties and when. Just last month, the board passed our 2040 Master Plan. One of the possibilities we are exploring is sharing our roads or land with other forms of transportation, whether it is the Brightline train that will use the south edge of the Beachline Expressway to

Homenaje A Ti Mujer ¡Homenaje a ti Mujer 2016! Como cada año y este es el 6to, Tu Revista Mujer, llevó a cabo su evento “Homenaje a ti Mujer”. Bajo la dirección de sus organizadores Jackie Méndez y Omayra de los Santos pudimos disfrutar de un evento muy cuidado con muchos lindos detalles y sobre todo con mucha emotividad, donde se rindió tributo a 12 mujeres que por diferentes motivos se han distinguido en nuestra comunidad. Y han hecho cosas importantes en las diferentes áreas donde se desenvuelven.
En el evento y con la colaboración y voz de Sandra Carrasquillo, Mariela Chópite y Omayra de los Santos, se leyeron las biografías de cada una de ellas, donde pudimos conocer más de sus vidas y compartir cosas muy personales que nos inspiran y motivan para que todas las mujeres puedan brillar y cada año sean más las mujeres a las que se les siga otorgando este reconocimiento. Muchas felicidades a Jackie y a Omayra por esta gran idea.

Homenaje a ti Mujer 2016 As every year and this is the 6th, Tu Revista Mujer, held its event "Homenaje a ti Mujer". Under the direction of coordinators Jackie Mendez and Omayra de los Santos, we were able to enjoy a wonderful event with many beautiful details, and above all very touching, where 12 women who for various reasons have distinguished themselves in our community, received tribute. They have done important things in the different areas where they are active. At the event, and with the collaboration and voices of Sandra Carrasquillo, Mariela Chópite and Omayra de los Santos, the biography of each woman was read through which we were able to learn more about their lives and share very personal things that inspire and motivate us so that all women can shine and each year more women can continue to receive this recognition.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando Celebrates Successful Hispanic Business Conference & Expo Orlando, FL - The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) presented the Hispanic Business Conference & Expo (HBCE) from June 2-4, 2016 at the Orange County Convention Center. The HBCE further emphasized the interests of the local business community, consumer community, and corporations at this year's event. The HBCE began on Thursday, June 2nd with a Connecting the Dots Speed Networking session, followed by an Employee Resource Group forum, and culminated with a Business reception event. SBA and HCCMO signed Strategic Alliance Memorandum Orlando, FL - The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) signed a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO), Friday, June 3, as part of the Access to Capital seminar during the HCCMO Hispanic Business Conference and Expo. The purpose of the SAM agreement is to develop a mutual understanding and a strong working relationship between SBA and the HCCMO to foster small business development and expansion, especially within

Sheriff & Police - Noticias / News Policía de Kissimmee detiene hombre por agresión sexual la cárcel del Condado Osceola sin derecho a fianza. Kissimmee, FL – Los detectives de la policía de Kissimmee detuvieron a un hombre por agresión sexual y se teme que muchas otras víctimas existen. El 7 de junio de 2016, Edwin García (F.D.N. 28/2/45) fue detenido por cuatro cargos de Actos Lascivos y Lujuriosos y dos cargos de Agresión Sexual contra una víctima menor de edad. En el 2012, García conoció la víctima menores de edad a través de la iglesia y se convirtió en el mentor de la misma. Durante el lapso de aproximadamente dos años, Edwin cometió varios actos sexuales en contra de la joven. Luego de concluir la relación con la primera víctima, García desarrolló otra relación inapropiada con una segunda víctima a través de su afiliación con otra iglesia. La investigación reveló que García ha estado involucrado con varias iglesias en los últimos años. García se daba a conocer como un médico que ofrecía servicios de psicología y terapia de masaje. García cooperó con los detectives y fue detenido en

Arrestan dos sospechosos de Agresión Sexual el cuarto y la amiga de la víctima Condado Osceola – El 5 de junio, aproximadamente a las 5:33 a.m., los agentes del Sheriff del Condado Osceola tomaron el informe de una posible agresión sexual. La víctima dijo a los agentes que ella y una amiga se alojaban en un hotel local en Kissimmee. El 4 de junio, se reunieron con dos hombres y los invitaron a su habitación de hotel. Kissimmee Police Arrest Man for Sexual Battery Kissimmee, FL – Kissimmee police detectives have arrested a man for sexual battery and are concerned other victims exists. On June 7, 2016, Edwin Garcia (D.O.B. 2/28/45) was arrested on four counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation and two counts of Sexual Battery against a juvenile victim. In 2012, Garcia met the juvenile victim through church and became the victim’s mentor. During the span of approximately two years, Edwin committed several sexual acts against the victim. At the conclusion of the relationship with the first victim, Garcia developed another inappropriate relationship with a second victim through an affiliation with another church.
The investigation revealed that Garcia was involved with several churches over the past few years. Garcia stated he was a doctor providing psychology and massage therapy services. Garcia cooperated with detectives and was booked into the Osceola County Jail held on no bond. Two Suspects Arrested for Sexual Battery Osceola County – On June 5th at approximately 5:33 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff's deputies took a report of a possible sexual battery. The victim told deputies she and a friend were staying at a local hotel in Kissimmee. On June 4, they met two men and invited them back to their hotel room. The victim's friend said she fell asleep and when she woke up she witnessed the suspect having sex with the victim, who was unconscious. The other man, later identified as Isaac Pierre, held the friend down and did not allow her to call for help or assist the victim. The men eventually left the room and the victim's friend called law enforcement.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and it was determined she may have been given unknown drugs. On June 6, detectives located the suspect, identified as Leedrew WallaceHarris, a registered felon and he cooperated with the investigation. Based on his statements, Harris was arrested and charged with Sexual Battery, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail. A felony warrant was obtained for Pierre for Principle to Sexual Battery and Battery. On June 7, he was located and booked into the Osceola County Jail with no bond.

Becas / Scholarships Ayudando a Soñadores a Alcanzar sus Sueños Orlando, FL- El miércoles 15 de junio El Osceola Star junto con el restaurante San Angel Inn de Epcot patrocinaron un almuerzo de becas en el restaurante Maya Grill de Disney Coronado Springs Resort. Ayudando a Soñadores a Alcanzar sus Sueños fue el nombre de este magnífico evento en el que patrocinadores y donantes se reunieron para recaudar fondos con el fin de seguir dando becas a estudiantes. Todos los fondos recaudados durante el almuerzo serán igualados por el Fondo de Becas de la Herencia Hispana de Metro Orlando. Afortunadamente, se contó con el apoyo y patrocinio de Valencia College, Telemundo,
Orlando, Daytona State College, Florida Technical College, y de Florida Bank of Commerce. Además, tuvimos a los oradores Kathleen Plinske, presidenta de los campus Osceola, Lake Nona y el futuro Poinciana Campus de Valencia College,Kevin Ortiz, Elizabeth Sabillón, y Emmy Torres, anteriores ganadores de la beca del Fondo de Becas de la Herencia Hispana de Metro Orlando, Sergio Ponce del Consulado de México, Guillermo Hansen del periódico El Osceola Star, y por último pero no menos importante, la maestra de ceremonia fue nuestra querida Paula Machado de Infomas y My News 13.

Helping Dreamers Achieve their Dreams Orlando, FL- On Wednesday June 15, El Osceola Star Newspaper along with Epcot's San Angel Inn Restaurant hosted a Scholarship Lunch at Maya Grill, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Helping Dreamers Achieve their Dreams was the name of this terrific event in which sponsors and donors gathered to raise funds in order to continue giving scholarships to our students. All the monies raised during the lunch will be matched by the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando (HHSFMO). Gladly, we counted with the support and sponsorship of Valencia College,
Telemundo, Orlando, Daytona State College, Florida Technical College, and of Florida Bank of Commerce. In addition we had speakers Kathleen Plinske, President of the Valencia College Osceola, Lake Nona and future Poinciana Campuses, Kevin Ortiz, Elizabeth Sabillon, and Emmy Torres, prior HHSFMO scholarship recipients, Sergio Ponce from the Consulate of Mexico, Guillermo Hansen from El Osceola Star, and last but not least, our master of ceremony was our beloved Paula Machado from Infomas and My News 13.

“La Voz Kids” Entra a la Emocionante Etapa Final de la Competencia Miami, FL – Durante la última “Ronda de Batallas” de “La Voz Kids” que se transmitió el pasado domingo por TELEMUNDO, los Coaches Daddy Yankee, Natalia Jiménez y Pedro Fernández seleccionaron las últimas cinco voces que necesitaban antes de iniciar la ‘Etapa Final’. Luego de desarrollar y preparar a sus equipos con la ayuda del Mentor Invitado, Roberto Tapia, 15 niños han sido seleccionados por los Coaches para regresar al escenario de Universal Orlando Resort mientras llegan los resultados del voto de la audiencia del “Wild Card” que se darán a conocer durante la primera gala este domingo, 19 de junio a las 8pm/7c. Una vez se revelen los nombres de los tres niños del “Wild Card”, un total de 18 participantes competirán durante la emocionante Etapa Final (seis por equipo de cada Coach). After developing and preparing their teams with the help of Guest Mentor , Roberto Tapia , 15 children were selected by the coaches to return to the stage of Universal Orlando Resort pending the results of the audience’s “Wild Card” vote which will be announced during the first gala this Sunday, June 19 at 8 pm/7c . Once the names of the three “Wild Card” children are revealed, a total of 18 participants will compete during the exciting Final Stage (six per each Coach’s team).
