Osceola County, FL – Marsh Landing may be a small stop on the State of Florida’s recognized Shingle Creek Blueway, but the park that opened Tuesday is a key point of interest that expands the reach of those seeking a paddling adventure along the headwaters of the Everglades. “Overall, this aquatic oasis opens up more of the creek to adventurers and really enhances its usability and our efforts to create a paddling trail,” said Commissioner Michael Harford. “At the same time, it fits into the overall mission of Shingle Creek Regional Park to protect this precious resource and emphasizes the historic role of the area.” Marsh Landing offers public canoe and kayak launch areas, as well as rentals for paddlers. Tours offered by the concessionaire include guided paddling trips to Osceola County’s Makinson Island Conservation Area. An option is available for overnight tent camping on this remote, natural gem. Guided and quiet electric boat tours along the creek also will be offered, for those wanting to experience a more peaceful and informative time on this historic waterway. Public restrooms and a pre-packaged food and drink concession area at Marsh Landing is ADA accessible. The park is located at 3465 Marsh Road, in Kissimmee, and opens daily from sunrise to sunset. Shingle Creek, the northernmost headwaters to the Everglades,
meanders south from the Osceola-Orange county line to the entrance of Lake Tohopekaliga. The Shingle Creek Paddling Trail eventually will encompass approximately 10 miles, which will link Shingle Creek with Makinson Island, Twin Oaks, Cherokee Point and Scotty’s Cove Conservation Areas on Lake Tohopekaliga. Marsh Landing was purchased by Osceola County, with the assistance of the South Florida Water Management District, through its “Save our Rivers” program in 2010. Formerly known as Harbor Oaks Marina, this 2-acre property once had two residential houses, a marina with more than 20 slips, a public restroom, a trailer park and a plant nursery business operating on the site. Most of those structures were severely damaged during the hurricanes of 2004. Today, the County-owned property is part of the more than 1,000-acre Shingle Creek Regional Park. Created through a partnership with Osceola County, City of Kissimmee, South Florida Water Management District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Florida Communities Trust, Florida Department of Greenways and Trails, Trust for Public Land and the Osceola County Historical Society, Shingle Creek Regional Park has become the urban oasis envisioned by the partners for the benefit and enjoyment of the community.

City of Orlando receives an ‘Osceola Tech Update’ Osceola County, FL – Regionalism, partnerships and collaboration are keys to a high tech research park that is drawing international interest. The Orlando City Council got a full update during a workshop at City Hall Monday, May 23rd. Through the International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing Research (ICAMR), Osceola County and the University of Central Florida are leading an effort to transform the regional economy and become the leader in what will be a $154 billion industry by 2020. “Osceola County and the City of Orlando are in very close proximity and share many great attributes including a closely connected transportation system and Orlando International Airport,” said Osceola Commission Chairwoman Viviana Janer. “Through this presentation on ICAMR, we look forward to exploring how we can further strengthen our already strong relationship with the City of Orlando. What’s happening with
ICAMR will define the future of both Osceola County and the Orlando region overall.” On Monday afternoon, the Osceola Commission considered three agreements for the advancement of the project and of the research park known as “The FARM” during its meeting. The board actions included the following: •Approved creation of a ‘Design Center’ in partnership with the International Consortium of Advanced Manufacturing Research (ICAMR). •Agreed to help a local company join ICAMR in order to further its research •Signed a memorandum of understanding with PhotonDelta, a Dutch business accelerator that will speed manufacturing and innovation leadership in next-generation, disruptive technologies and grow associated markets. Marco Rubio (R-FL) presentó una réplica de la Medalla de Oro del Congreso al CSM Aníbal Albertorio, un veterano del regimiento de la 65 de Infantería del Ejército de E.U., conocido como los "Borinqueneers." Rubio presents replica of Congressional Gold Medal to Borinquenner Washington, D.C. – On Monday, May 16, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) presented a replica Congressional Gold Medal to CSM Anibal Albertorio, a veteran of the U.S. Army’s 65thInfantry Regiment, known as the “Borinqueneers.” Like several other Borinqueneers from Florida, CSM Albertorio was unable to attend the medal’s unveiling ceremony in Washington last month for medical reasons. Rubio presented the 86-year-old his replica medal in the comfort of his home in Oviedo, Florida, surrounded by family. “I was privileged to meet CSM Albertorio and personally thank him for his service. He courageously fought in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and is part of a
distinguished group of American heroes. I was humbled to present him this well-deserved award today.” Rubio said. “Being involved in the effort to secure this tribute for the Borinqueneers has been one of my greatest honors as a U.S. senator, and the long-overdue medal represents our nation’s gratitude for their time of service.” The Congressional Gold Medal was designated for the Borinqueneers in June 2014 when President Obama signed a law that Rubio originally co-sponsored in the Senate. Qualifying period for St. Cloud municipal election set for June 20-24 St. Cloud, FL – St. Cloud City Council approved the manner in which the city’s regular elections will be held in November during a St. Cloud City Council Regular Meeting April 28. Sheriff - Police - Noticias / News Dos Sospechosos Detenidos por Robo Múltiple y Cargos de Hurto Mayor A través del curso de la Condado Osceola - Los detectives del Sheriff del Condado Osceola junto a la Unidad de Vigilancia de Turismo arrestaron a Gelbert Regalado y Lynderes Castro por robo desocupado múltiple y cargos de hurto mayor. Two Suspects Arrested for Multiple Burglary and Grand Theft Charges Osceola County – Osceola County Sheriff's detectives with the Tourist Policing Unit arrested Gelbert Regalado and Lynderes Castro on multiple Unoccupied Burglary and Grand Theft charges. The suspects are responsible for more than 20 burglaries in Reunion and also linked to similar crimes in Polk County. The investigation began in early January when detectives began investigating numerous residential burglaries in the Reunion Resort area. The majority of these crimes occurred during the day and entry was made through a sliding glass door or breaking a window. Through the course of the investigation, Regalado and Castro were identified as
suspects. On May 23, detectives conducted an undercover operation and observed the suspects committing a burglary. They were taken into custody and cooperated with the investigation. Based on their statements and the evidence, Regalado and Castro were arrested. Regalado was charged with 5 counts of Unoccupied Burglary and 3 counts of Grand Theft. Castro was charged with 4 counts of Unoccupied Burglary and 2 counts of Grand Theft. They were booked into the Osceola County Jail. Detectives also recovered more than $100,000 dollars of stolen property. The investigation is on-going with additional charges pending.
