The exact location of where DOH believes there are active transmissions of the Zika virus is within the boundaries of the following area: NW 5th Avenue to the west, US 1 to the east, NW/NE 38th Street to the north and NW/NE 20th Street to the south. This area is about one square mile and a map above details the area.

Gov.. Scott: Florida Continues to Dedicate Every Available Resource to Combat Zika Panama City, FL – Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Health has confirmed that there are no new locally acquired Zika infections to report today. Additionally, the Governor has directed the Florida Department of Health (DOH) to provide Zika testing to pregnant women at all county health departments at no cost. To ensure that Zika tests are processed as quickly as possible, DOH will make available additional lab services to handle the expected increase in tests being administered.

are only occurring in the same one square mile area of Miami. While this is good news, and proof that our education and mosquito control efforts are working, we will not become complacent and will continue to aggressively fight against the Zika virus. For this reason, I have directed DOH to make Zika testing available to all pregnant women who would like to be tested at county health departments statewide at no cost. We know Zika is most harmful to pregnant women and their babies and we must work to protect them.

Governor Scott said, “Today, the Florida Department of Health confirmed that there are no new cases of local Zika infection, meaning the state total for locally transmitted infections stands at 15. At this time, DOH continues to believe that active local transmissions

Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Commissioners approved a new ordinance that will allow for a quicker, integrated to eliminate public nuisances throughout the county. The ordinance allows the current code enforcement board to abate drug, prostitution, dealing in stolen property, and criminal street gang activities deemed a public nuisance. In the past, cases were handled by different departments and agencies – and those processes could stretch over many months – and even years. The ordinance allows the county to address with a shorter timeline. A nuisance shall be deemed to exist or to have existed if the board, after hearing, finds by a preponderance of the evidence when a place or premises has been used: •On more than two occasions within a six-month period as the site of a violation of state law regarding prostitution. •On more than two occasions within a six-month period as the site of the unlawful sale, manufacture, or cultivation of any controlled substance; or •On one occasion as the site of the unlawful possession of a controlled substance, where such possession constitutes a felony and such place or premises have been previously used on more than one occasion as the site of the unlawful sale, delivery, manufacture, or cultivation of any controlled substance. •By a criminal gang for the purpose of conducting criminal gang activity as by state law

•On more than two occasions within a six-month period, as the site relating to dealing in stolen property as defined under Florida Statutes. The board can then declare the property a public nuisance and order “whatever steps are necessary to bring a violation into compliance.” The ordinance is the product of the county’s strategic planning sessions and feedback from community stakeholders. While the ordinance applies countywide officials said the most immediate application will be along U.S. Highway 192. The county also recently approved a minimum maintenance ordinance as well. The ordinance establishes minimum property and building maintenance standards for all property within Osceola County, and provides for the abatement of the nuisances affecting the general public in order to protect the comfort, health, safety and general welfare of the citizens and visitors of the county. The provisions of the ordinance are based upon portions of the 2015 International Property Maintenance Code. Specific areas addressed include: Pool and Hot Tub Enclosures: Structure Exteriors; Exterior surfaces and walls; Decorative features; Stairways, decks, porches and balconies; Insect screens, doors and gates.

Judge Dan Traver, Re-Election for Circuit Court Judge Dan Traver has been serving the citizens of Osceola and Orange Counties for the last two years as Circuit Court Judge. He is a former threesport Division I athlete, the husband to a physical therapist, and the son of a United States Marine. He began his legal career working for a federal trial court judge, the only one of my colleagues to have received this honor. He spent nearly a decade before his judicial appointment working as a civil trial lawyer in one of Central Florida’s oldest law firms, and he tried cases in both state and federal courts in Florida, Delaware and Texas. When he became a judge in 2014, he realized a life-long dream. Although he spent most of his career in civil court, Chief Judge Belvin Perry asked him to preside in the family court domestic violence division. So he began his career quickly adapting to a new area of law on the most emotional floor of the Courthouse. He address emergency requests for protection, as well as divorces and paternity cases that have domestic violence issues. Although he hears difficult and emotional family situations every day, his courtroom is a place of respect, fairness and quiet dignity. The attorneys and litigants who appear before him know that they will meet a punctual, prepared and professional judge who rules promptly and explains his decisions.

Judge Dan Traver The attorneys who have entered his courtroom have overwhelmingly supported his continued service to the Ninth Circuit. The Chief Judge has honored him by asking for assistance in improving the way that our court system serves the public. He have aided a committee that has certified Batterer’s Intervention Programs in Osceola and Orange Counties, as well as one that seeks to ensure that one family will have their case heard by one judge, no matter how many different matters are involved. Although he has worked as hard as he can, he does not think two years is long enough to become an expert in anything. He wants to continue being a judge not only because he has proven he can do the job, but because he can become even better being a Judge. He ask for your vote not only based on his qualifications, but also his record as a judge. This position demands stability, consistency and reliability, as well as a commitment to the public. He would be privileged to continue realizing his dream of serving you as a circuit court judge, and he respectfully request your vote on August 30th.

New Location of Bette Sprinkle Memorial Statue Kissimmee, FL — Earlier this spring, Kissimmee Main Street and the Downtown Community Redevelopment Agency asked for the community’s help in determining the new location for the Bette Sprinkle Memorial Statue due to the new developments happening in Downtown Kissimmee’s Toho Square. In just a few weeks, there will be the breaking ground new 400 space parking garage, multiple townhomes and residential flats that will bring new residents and 200 new public parking spaces to downtown Kissimmee, the first part of the Mosaic development project. After two months of an open online survey, the community has spoken. After close to 700 responses, an overwhelming 40% majority, approximately 300 votes, chose the home of her business at 23 Broadway. That location, currently home to Jammer’s Music Center, will be her new home once construction is underway. Central Florida was Heard at HCCMO'S Political Hob Nob out to vote like never before and elect Orlando, FL - Aiming to increase Hispanic voter participation in the electoral process, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) hosted its 2016 Political Hob Nob at the Acacia Banquet Hall this past Thursday, July 28th. National, state, and local campaigns participated in last night's event, highlighting the increasing importance of the Hispanic vote, both locally and beyond. A room full of attendees, composed mostly of HCCMO members and trustees, as well as elected officials and community leaders, participated in this unique forum to connect and learn about their local candidates. Candidates and their representatives interacted one-on-one with voters, also sharing their individual platforms during the traditional "Parade of Candidates." An educational session on the amendments took place during the Hob Nob led by Robert Agrusa, Executive Director of Business Force. This session was based on educating attendees on the many different amendments that will appear on the ballots. "As one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the country, it is our responsibility to be educated on the issues that impact our community and make sure our voices are heard at the ballot box," said Lourdes Mola, HCCMO Chair of the Board. "My hope is that this year we go

candidates that align with our values as Hispanic Americans." Attendees cast their vote in support of their preferred candidates and issues in a straw poll conducted by the office of the Orange County Supervisor of Elections. Although the results of the straw poll are not scientific, they reflect the voting tendencies of the Hispanic business community present at the event. "Voting, an expression of opinion or preference, according to the dictionary. Considering the fact that elected officials at the local, state and national level have the power to affect our everyday way of life, I urge every American in Central Florida to be an informed voter; do your homework on the candidates and on the amendments. Please vote on August 30 and on November 8. Let your voice be heard during this election cycle." Said Diana Bolivar, President of the HCCMO.

Q. What is white coat syndrome? If you suffer from white coat syndrome, your blood pressure jumps as soon as a doctor or nurse approaches you. If your doctor knows this, he or she may recommend a home blood-pressure monitor or ambulatory monitor that is worn around the clock and takes your pressure every half hour. Blood pressure tends to spike when you are excited by an emotion such as anger or fear. But high blood pressure—known as hypertension—is very sneaky. It’s called the silent killer, because it usually has no symptoms. Doctors say you have high blood pressure if you have a reading of 140/90 or higher. A blood pressure reading of 120/80 or lower is considered normal. Prehypertension is blood pressure between 120 and

139 for the top number, or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number. The first number represents your systolic pressure when the heart beats. The second number represents the diastolic pressure when the heart rests. If only one number is elevated, you still have high blood pressure with all of its dangers. When you go to your doctor to have your blood pressure taken, there are a few things you can do to get an accurate reading. First, don’t drink coffee or smoke cigarettes for a half hour before your pressure is taken. (What are you doing smoking anyway?). Empty your bladder, because a full tank can affect the reading. Sit quietly for five minutes before the test.

Fatal Structure Fire Kissimmee, FL - City of Kissimmee Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire early this morning of July 29 which resulted in the fatality of a male victim.

Kissimmee Police and Books A Million Host 2nd Cookies and Milk with a Cop Kissimmee, FL – The Kissimmee Police Department and Books A Million hosted another Cookies and Milk with a Cop on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at their Osceola Parkway store. Cookies and Milk with a Cop brings kids and cops together in a fun and non-traditional atmosphere building trust and making friends. There is no agenda, just a relaxed and informal environment. Officers read one of their favorite children’s books and will share some cookies and milk with those who attend. The event was free and open to children of all ages.

“Cookies and Milk with a Cop is a great way to show children that police officers are regular people too. Children should feel safe and comfortable approaching a police officer to say hello, give a high five or ask for help if something is wrong. Events like these open those lines of communication between the officers and the children,” said Chief Lee Massie. The first Cookies and Milk with a Cop was held on July 20, 2016 and approximately 30 children attended the event.

Firefighters arrived at 308 Lilly St. at 4:23 a.m. to find heavy fire emitting from the front of the structure. Firefighters attempted to rescue the victim, but the room he was found in was already fully involved in fire. The victim’s wife was also home and was able to get herself out. Prior to fire personnel’s arrival, neighbors attempted to rescue the victim but were unsuccessful due to the fire's intensity. A dog and a cat also perished in the fire.

"Our firefighters tried their best to rescue the victim but unfortunately the fire had already progressed to a point where they were unable to do so," said Interim Fire Chief Jim Walls. "This is the first structure fire related fatality in the City of Kissimmee since 2005," continued Walls. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for exhaustion where was treated and released. Osceola County Fire Rescue assisted Kissimmee at the fire. Cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Orlando City Wins at Home with New Coach Orlando, FL - It was a long time coming, but Orlando City finally won at home defeating the New England Revolution. Kaka returned as a starter for Orlando and his impact was obvious. In the first game for new coach Kreis altered the lineup for this match starting both Kaka and Cyle Larin forward. Antonio Nocerino started in the midfield along with Molino, Barry, and Carrasco. Defense remained the same. Despite New England scoring first at the 19-minute mark, Orlando continued to put pressure on their defense. Just one minute into the second half, Molino and Larin perfected the give and go when Larin was able to fire a shot into the back of the net. At the 64 minute of play, Brek Shea, who replaced Barry at the half, sent a cross up to Molino who nodded the ball past the Revolution’s keeper to take the lead. New England responded with two attacking opportunities but Joe Bendik kept the score 2-1. In the 83rd minute

of play. Kaka and Molino teamed up to score Orlando’s third goal. Kaka sent a clever pass into the box for Molino who sent a powerful strike straight into the net. This crucial win will hopefully begin a winning streak for the Lions as the playoffs are fast approaching. This win places Orlando tied with the Revolution for the last Eastern Conference Playoff spot. 13 matches still remain for Orlando but the road ahead is not easy. Orlando will face tough teams for the remainder of the season. All while adjusting to a new coach and enduring roster changes. The Lions traded strong defensive midfielder, Darwin Ceren, to the San Jose Quakes in exchange for attacking midfielder, Matias Perez Garcia. Garcia played three seasons with the Quakes and led the team in assists. Orlando will host the Seattle Sounders on Sunday at Camping World Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.

Stargazers expect a similar outburst during next week’s Perseid meteor shower, which will be visible overnight on Aug. 11 and 12, 2016. están en curso de colisión con la Tierra.

Make plans now to stay up late or set the alarm early next week to see a cosmic display of “shooting

stars” light up the night sky. Known for it’s fast and bright meteors, the annual Perseid meteor shower is anticipated to be one of the best potential meteor viewing opportunities this year. The Perseids show up every year in August when Earth ventures through trails of debris left behind by an ancient comet. This year, Earth may be in for a closer encounter than usual with the comet trails that result in meteor shower, setting the stage for a spectacular display. An outburst is a meteor shower with more meteors than usual. The last Perseid outburst occurred in 2009. Every Perseid meteor is a tiny piece of the comet Swift-Tuttle, which orbits the sun every 133 years. Each swing through the inner solar system can leave trillions of small particles in its wake. When Earth crosses paths with SwiftTuttle’s debris, specks of cometstuff hit Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrate in flashes of light. These meteors are called Perseids because they seem to fly out of the constellation Perseus. Most years, Earth might graze the edge of Swift-Tuttle’s debris stream, where there’s less activity. Occasionally, though, Jupiter’s gravity tugs the huge network of dust trails closer, and Earth plows through closer to the middle, where there’s more material. This may be one of those years. Experts at NASA and elsewhere agree that three or more streams are on a collision course with Earth. How to Watch the Perseids The best way to see the Perseids is to go outside between midnight and dawn on the morning of Aug. 12. Allow about 45 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark. Lie on your back and look straight up. Increased activity may also be seen on Aug. 12-13. For stargazers experiencing cloudy or light-polluted skies, a live broadcast of the Perseid meteor shower will be available via Ustream overnight on Aug. 11-12 and Aug. 12-13, beginning at 10 p.m. EDT.
