Pinceladas de mujer es una organización de damas hispanas del área de Dr. Phillips y Windermere. Esta organización fue fundada en febrero de 2015 por la Sra. Carol Carbia y un grupo de damas que sintieron la necesidad de compartir y envolverse con la comunidad. Su misión está enfocada en la superación personal, la educación, las relaciones interpersonales y la ayuda al prójimo. Este pasado 28 de febrero se conmemoró su 2do aniversario y para celebrarlo se organizó un bonito almuerzo en Eddie V’S Prime Seafood, con la exhibición de la artista Joyce Hayes, la participación del tenor Rafael Carrero y la presentación del fashion show por Dominicci International de CavaChic Boutique en The Grove, Windermere. El evento en el cual todas las damas lucieron sumamente elegantes vestidas de blanco con accesorios rojos significado de la unidad del grupo. Este grupo está dirigido por una directiva integrada por la Dra. Francelis Ivette González, CEO de Kidsville Pediatrics, Sra. Carol Carbia, Sra. Mariluz Rodríguez, Sra. Tatiana Fernando y Jaky Yagers.

As your School Board member in District 3, I am extremely proud to be part of building a legacy – not a personal legacy, but one that ensures that our community is a better place to live, learn, and earn a living because of the work we are doing collectively for children. The School Board’s three-year Strategic Plan drives us to accomplish outlined goals, ensuring that money, time, and resources are allocated to ensure success for all students. Over the next several issues of the Poinciana Pioneer, I will provide community stakeholders with an update on each of the five outlined goals in the school district’s 2016-2019 Strategic Plan of academic success, talent management, fiscal responsibility, community engagement, and governance. Update on Academic Success: As we move deeper into the 21st century, our curriculum and instruction has to change to meet shifting demands and achieve higher graduation rates and to prepare for high-tech, highdemand careers of today and tomorrow . . . some of which haven’t even been invented yet. To do this: • We are expanding the career and technical education programs that will be essential in providing infrastructure support to the high tech industries moving to the region. Students are earning stackable industry certifications and licensure in high-demand, highwage career pathways including construction, hospitality and tourism, health and medical, and engineering pathways. • New this year, the district will give the PSAT test to all ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students, as well as the SAT during the school day to all high school juniors, to provide more opportunities for college acceptances and scholarship opportunities.

Tim Weisheyer • At the middle school level, the district is offering a wealth of acceleration options to students that allow them to earn early high school credit in a wide variety of academic subjects, as well in industry certification courses. • Osceola has become what is called a “STEM-sturdy” school district, as we have greatly expanded our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics offerings through Project Lead the Way in all of our middle and K-8 schools. • This is the first year that our district is conducting universal screenings for the gifted program for all second grade students. Some schools are seeing a potential increase in gifted identification of over 200%. Stay tuned for many more academic highlights as we are only one year into a three year Strategic Plan. Congreso / U.S. Congress El congresista Soto insta a las autoridades a no convertirse en agentes de deportación Orlando, FL - El Representante de los Estados Unidos, Darren Soto (FL-09), está pidiendo a las agencias locales de aplicación de la ley y a los miembros de la junta escolar que defiendan los derechos de los inmigrantes. Les pide que rechacen las crueles nuevas políticas de la administración del presidente Donald Trump para detener y deportar a los que están en el país indocumentados, incluyendo familias trabajadoras y estudiantes sin antecedentes penales. Soto realizó una reunión de emergencia el martes con el cónsul mexicano de Orlando Juan Sabines y líderes comunitarios de inmigrantes después de que el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) anunció los planes de Trump. Estos planes incluyen alistar a las autoridades locales para que trabajen con la Agencia Federal de Inmigración y Aduanas (ICE), despojando a los inmigrantes de protecciones de privacidad y acelerando los procedimientos de deportación. Congressman Soto urges authorities not to become deportation agents Orlando, FL - U.S. Representative Darren Soto (FL-09) is calling upon local law enforcement agencies and school board members to stand up for immigrant rights. He asks them to reject the cruel new policies of President Donald Trump’s administration to arrest and deport those who are in the country undocumented, including hard-working families and students with no criminal record. Soto held an emergency meeting on Tuesday with Orlando Mexican Consul Juan Sabines and immigrant community leaders after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Trump’s plans. These plans include enlisting local authorities to work with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stripping immigrants of privacy protections, and speeding deportation proceedings. “My first concern is that this drastic change in immigration enforcement policy will cost thousands of local jobs. Central Florida is a diverse and vibrant community that is home to a thriving immigrant population. Our immigrant

families are hard-working and an integral part of our economy, particularly our tourism and agriculture industries,” Congressman Soto said in one of the letters sent this morning. “Aggressive local deportation measures will create a fearful environment which could scare away workers and tourists alike.” Letters have been sent to Orange County Sheriff Jerry L. Demings, Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and more than 20 school board members. "I am writing to urge you to clarify school policy to ensure local school personnel refrain from immigration status inquiries of our students," Soto said. "On February 21, 2017, I held an Emergency Immigration Roundtable and was informed therein that students in Auburndale, Florida had been questioned by local school administrators about their immigration status. Given the recent executive action and heated rhetoric on immigration, these unauthorized inquiries are deeply troubling to me and our constituents."

Puerto Rico - Noticias / News Gobernador Rosselló Nevares firma ley de incentivos a médicos San Juan, PR - El gobernador Ricardo Rosselló Nevares firmó la Ley de Incentivos para la Retención y Retorno de Profesionales Médicos, que establece una tasa fija de contribución de 4% sobre los ingresos que generen de la práctica médica. Esta ley beneficiará a los segmentos de la población que no tienen acceso a los servicios de salud, pues los médicos que se acojan a este incentivo deberán cumplir con un mínimo de horas de servicio comunitario anuales o brindar servicios por igual cantidad de horas al Programa de Salud del Gobierno. “Enfrentamos una crisis severa con la alarmante cantidad de médicos especializados que están saliendo de Puerto Rico. Esta ley busca asegurar que los especialistas médicos se queden en la Isla y no prefieran irse a trabajar a otras jurisdicciones en

búsqueda de una mejor calidad de vida”, comentó el primer ejecutivo. Según el Instituto de Estadísticas de Puerto Rico hubo una reducción de un 9.2% en la población de la Isla entre el 2004 y el 1 de julio de 2015. Así también, la ley establece que “el número de médicos especialistas en Puerto Rico disminuyó de 8,452 en 2009, a 6,713 en 2014, lo que equivale a un promedio de 347 por cada año (casi un médico especialista diario). Esto es el equivalente a una disminución de 20.5% conforme a las estadísticas suplidas por el Custom Research Center, Inc., en diciembre de 2014”. El estatuto que firmó el primer ejecutivo en San Jorge Children’s Hospital cumple con el compromiso esbozado en el Plan para Puerto Rico.

Asimismo, esta ley establece que “para tener derecho a solicitar el decreto que se concede mediante la presente legislación, el médico deberá ser residente de Puerto Rico o establecer su residencia en Puerto Rico dentro del término concedido por esta legislación. Además, el médico debe estar debidamente admitido a la práctica de la medicina en Puerto Rico y estar activamente ejerciendo

la profesión durante la totalidad de la vigencia del decreto”. Además, los individuos a los que se les emita el decreto vendrán obligados a residir y ejercer la medicina a tiempo completo en Puerto Rico.

Governor Rosselló Nevares signs medical incentives law San Juan, PR - Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares signed the Law on Incentives for Retention and Return of Medical Professionals, which establishes a fixed contribution rate of 4% on the income generated by medical practice. This law will benefit those segments of the population that do not have access to health services, as physicians who benefit themselves of this incentive must comply with a minimum number of hours of community service per year or provide services for an equal number of hours to the Health Program of the Government. "We are facing a severe crisis with the alarming number of specialized doctors who are leaving Puerto Rico. This law seeks to ensure that medical specialists stay in the island and not leave to work in other jurisdictions in search of a better life," said the governor. According to the Institute of Statistics of Puerto Rico there was a reduction of 9.2% in the population of the Island between 2004 and 1 July 2015. Likewise, the law states that "the number of specialists in Puerto Rico decreased from 8,452 in 2009 to 6,713 in 2014, which is equivalent to an average of 347 per year (almost daily a specialist physician has left the Island). This is equivalent to a decrease of 20.5% according to the statistics supplied by the Custom Research Center, Inc., in December 2014. " The statute that the governor signed at San Jorge Children's Hospital complies with the commitment outlined in the Plan for Puerto Rico. The law also provides that "in order to be entitled to apply for the decree granted by this law, the physician must be a resident of Puerto Rico or establish his residence in Puerto Rico within the term granted by this legislation. In addition, the physician must be properly admitted to the practice of medicine in Puerto Rico and be actively practicing the profession for the entire duration of the decree." In addition, individuals to whom the decree is issued will be required to reside and practice medicine full-time in Puerto Rico.
