Orange Star - Noticias / News Moción aprobada unánimemente para completar el Dr. Phillips Center Orlando, FL - La Junta de Comisionados del Condado Orange votó por unanimidad para aprobar una enmienda que proporcionaría una adición de $45 millones para completar la construcción del Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Esta es la tercera y última votación que permite oficialmente la financiación, que se compone de los fondos recogidos del impuesto al desarrollo turístico. Motion Approved Unanimously For Completion of Dr. Phillips Center Orlando, FL – The Orange County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted to approve an amendment that would provide an additional $45 million for the completion of Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. This is the third and final vote that officially allows for the funding, which is made up of monies collected from the Tourist Development Tax. The funding plan, proposed in a memo from Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs on September 9, 2016, was unanimously approved by both the Tourist Development Council on September 30, 2016 and the Orlando City Council on October 24, 2016. The voting specifically approves amending the 2007 Interlocal Agreement for the Community Venues that allocates funds to begin commencement on the completion of the arts center, otherwise known as Phase II, which includes Steinmetz Hall, a large rehearsal room and other amenities. The new 1700-seat acoustical theater will provide a home for local companies: Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orlando Ballet. “We’re so proud of this tremendous cultural asset and are committed to its completion – particularly for the benefit of our local performers. To take strategic advantage of tourist-generated taxes, I proposed a change to the current debt structure. Today, our Board of County Commissioners voted to allocate an additional $45 million for the Dr. Phillips Center, which will allow the arts center to efficiently complete Phase II. Today’s action will not raise taxes or financially impact local residents in any way.” said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs. “The Dr. Phillips Center has become an iconic symbol that inspires all of us to be proud of our city, but the vision that was approved in 2007 isn’t complete,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “Today’s (November 1st.) vote that moves forward the Steinmetz Hall fulfills that vision and further enhances our arts and entertainment offerings.” Details regarding ground-breaking will be announced soon.

City Of Kissimmee

La Ciudad de Kissimmee lleva a cabo inauguración de la conexión de Dyer Boulevard Kissimmee, FL - El viernes 4 de noviembre, los funcionarios de la Ciudad de Kissimmee celebraron una ceremonia de corte de cinta para la fase final de Dyer Boulevard Connection. City of Kissimmee held Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Dyer Boulevard Connection Kissimmee, FL - On Friday, November 4, City of Kissimmee officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the final phase of Dyer Boulevard Connection. This City funded project will provide a 4 lane divided connection from what was the north end of Dyer Boulevard which previously stopped at Donegan Avenue and now provides a north south connection to the existing Dyer Boulevard north of Carroll Street. In addition this new section of Dyer Boulevard is providing access to the adjacent Tapestry Community Development projects on the east and west side of the street. The traffic signal improvements at Dyer Boulevard and Carroll Street were also required as part of this project to provide a continuous route of travel thru the Carroll Street intersection. In addition the new signal will be needed for the future widening of Carroll Street itself. These improvements totaling a distance of approximately 0.41 miles are aimed at facilitating additional traffic demands due to community

growth and development in the area. The total cost of the project is $2,431,748. The new Dyer Boulevard Connection is also the first public roadway within the City limits to have all LED street lighting with the following characteristics: - LED street lighting is energy efficiency compared to conventional street lighting. - An LED street light produces the same amount of (or higher) luminance as a traditional street light, but requires only half of the power consumption. - The projected lifetime of LED street lights is usually 10 to 15 years, two to four times the life of traditional streetlights, meaning lower maintenance costs. -Reduced glare: Directing the light downward onto the roadway reduces the amount of light that is directed into driver's eyes. Widening of Carroll Street is expected to begin in the early part of 2017.

Kissimmee Elementary School – School Store Many of the students at Kissimmee Elementary are living at the poverty level. The school has been able to provide a majority of its families in need with clothing and auxiliary services. Now, the school is focusing on motivating students and teaching them how to manage money through the school store. The store utilizes Cub Cash that students can earn for following school-wide expectations.

To continue this opportunity for its students, Kissimmee Elementary is seeking donations of new school supplies, such as design erasers, pencils, pens, and notebooks. St Cloud - Noticias / News Niñas Escucha honran a alcaldesa de St. Cloud por su liderazgo, apoyo, tutoría St. Cloud, FL – Niñas del Girl Scout Troop 56 honraron a la alcaldesa de St. Cloud, Rebecca Borders, el 27 de octubre en la alcaldía durante su última reunión desde el estrado. The most-recent project Borders worked on for the Girl Scout Troop was a two-day Robotics Training Session. Looking for a new activity to inspire the girls, she thought of robotics; not just to build a robot, but to help build their confidence and inspire their visions for the future. “I have always had a passion to inspire the next generation,” Borders explained. “With this particular project, the girls enjoyed an instruction and hands-on project. It really was great to see their creative minds at work. But, in the end, all Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts inspire me. They are our future leaders and we need to help them in becoming

responsible, productive adults. They have inspired me to stay focused in helping them provide a positive future for our community. These girls have great parents who are teaching their children to be kind, goal-oriented and productive citizens. I’m very grateful to them for allowing me to be a part of their lives, and I thank them for honoring me.” The instructor for the Robotics Training Session, Dave Verbarg, educated the girls on the functioning of robots and then assisted them in building robots of their own to help reinforce what they learned. He donated his time and talents to the two-day project, which was provided at no cost to the girls. As she steps down from the dais, Borders said she will continue to serve the city she loves by volunteering to assist in various community projects.

City Of Kissimmee - Arte / Art Kissimmee City Hall Features “Fine Artists of the Puerto Rican Diaspora” Exhibition Kissimmee, FL – The City of Kissimmee is featuring professional artists of the “Fine Artists of the Puerto Rican Diaspora” during the months of November and December at Kissimmee City Hall.

La alcaldía de Kissimmee presenta la exposición "Artistas de la diáspora puertorriqueña" renombrado pintor José Kissimmee, FL - La ciudad de Kissimmee presenta artistas profesionales de las "Bellas Artes de la Diáspora Puertorriqueña" durante los meses de noviembre y diciembre en la alcaldía de Kissimmee. Las "Bellas Artes de la Diáspora Puertorriqueña" es un grupo dinámico de artistas profesionales que residen en la Florida Central, unidos por un objetivo común: compartir y exhibir sus obras de arte dentro y fuera de los límites de la Florida. Su objetivo principal es abrir nuevos espacios para artistas emergentes y establecidos que representan a Puerto Rico a través de su arte. Este encuentro es el resultado de las migraciones de Puerto Rico a los Estados Unidos. Algunos de ellos son puertorriqueños nacidos o criados en Nueva York donde experimentaron la vida en la gran ciudad, donde fueron tocados por las colecciones de bellas artes exhibidas en museos y galerías. Para estos artistas, sus pinturas abordan temas relacionados con su patria con toques del entorno urbano. Llegaron a Orlando y sus alrededores atraídos por la belleza de la región y sus cálidas y familiares temperaturas. Los otros miembros de este grupo colectivo vinieron directamente de Puerto Rico a vivir en la Florida. Otros artistas fueron herederos de una fuerte tradición artística puertorriqueña con una historia de casi cuatrocientos años. Esta tradición comenzó con el

Siguen orgullosos de su origen y hacen todo lo posible para mostrar al mundo el arte de "La diáspora puertorriqueña". El objetivo final es entregar un mensaje a todas las generaciones en todas partes, sobre la importancia de todas las artes en todas las sociedades. The “Fine Artists of the Puerto Rican Diaspora” is a dynamic group of professional artists who reside in Central Florida, bound together by a common goal - to share and showcase their works of art in and outside the boundaries of Florida. Their primary objective is to open new venues to emerging and established artists who represent Puerto Rico through their art. This encounter is the result of migrations from Puerto Rico to the United States. Some of them are Puerto Ricans born or raised in New York where they experienced life in the big city, where they were touched by the fine art collections displayed in museums and galleries there. For these artists, their paintings approach topics related to their homeland with touches of the urban setting. They arrived in Orlando and surrounding areas attracted by the beauty of the region and its familiar, warm temperatures. The other members of this collective group came straight from Puerto Rico to live in Florida. Other artists were heirs of a strong Puerto Rican artistic tradition with a history of nearly four hundred years.

This tradition started with the renowned painter Jose Campeche, continued with Francisco Oller and kept evolving along the twentieth century. During this time different generations of artists from Puerto Rico traveled to The United States, Mexico and Europe to study fine art in renown, academic institutions. They returned to Puerto Rico and became mentors to younger generations. The phenomena of Puerto Rican people, coming to the United States of America and looking for better opportunities, has made it possible for this group of gifted artists to unite in a common cause in Central Florida. They remain proud of their origin and do their best to showcase to the world the art of “The Puerto Rican Diaspora.” The ultimate goal is to deliver a message to all generations everywhere, on the importance of all the arts in all societies. The work of Pedro Brull, Jose Feliciano, Felipe Morales, Yasir Nieves, “Meri” Maria Ramos, Angel Rivera, Carmen Rojas and Jose Sanchez is displayed on all five floors of Kissimmee City Hall. Día del Veterano: Recordando a todos aquellos que sirvieron y se sacrificaron por nosotros Por Vivian Janer Presidenta de la Comisión del Condado Osceola Osceola County, FL El Día de los Veteranos es un gran día para reconocer y celebra a hombres y mujeres que han sido llamados a sacrificarse tanto para este gran país. Recientemente el Condado Osceola honró a sus empleados veteranos con un almuerzo en el Osceola Council on Aging. El reportero ancla de WESH 2 News, Jim Payne fue el maestro de ceremonias y el Jefe de la Policía de la ciudad de Orlando, John Mina, fue el orador principal. El acontecimiento despertó orgullo en mi corazón mientras miraba a los muchos trabajadores del condado que han servido a su país en cada rama de las fuerzas armadas. Me hizo sentir orgullosa de servirles como funcionaria electa. También me reafirmó que el servicio de nuestros veteranos a nuestro país es parte del ADN de Estados Unidos. En el Día de los Veteranos es importante que todos comprendan el precio de su propia libertad y que recuerden a los humildes héroes que nos han enseñado a responder siempre a la llamada de los Estados Unidos. De más está decir que esas lecciones a menudo se pagan con sacrificio: la sangre, el sudor y las lágrimas de hombres y mujeres ordinarios llamados a hacer cosas extraordinarias.

Muchos veteranos continúan haciendo contribuciones significativas a sus comunidades después de que termina su servicio, utilizando las habilidades que aprendieron haciendo todo lo posible para marcar la diferencia en la vida de otros. Nuestros Padres Fundadores tenían razón: "Que todos los hombres son creados iguales, son dotados por su Creador con ciertos derechos inalienables que entre ellos son la vida, la libertad y la búsqueda de la felicidad". Cuando firmaron la Declaración de Independencia, ellos arriesgaron sus vidas y libertad por sus creencias. Hoy comparamos su fortaleza y valentía con nuestros propios veteranos y su servicio. Los colores de nuestra bandera lo dicen todo: •El rojo significa resistencia y coraje, •El blanco es el símbolo de pureza e inocencia, •Y el azul es el color de la vigilancia, la perseverancia y la justicia. Nuestros veteranos viven esos colores. Día del Veterano es cuando todos debemos sonreír y agradecerles desde el fondo de nuestros corazones. Desde el fondo de mi corazón, saludo a todos los patriotas que alguna vez han llevado el uniforme de los Estados Unidos de América con orgullo. Podemos servirle así como usted nos ha servido.

Veterans Day: Remembering All Those Who Serve and Sacrifice for Us By Vivian Janer Osceola County Commission Chairwoman Osceola County, FL Veterans Day is a great day to recognize and celebrate the men and women who have been called upon to sacrifice so much for this great country. Recently, Osceola County honored its employee veterans with a luncheon at Osceola Council on Aging. WESH 2 News anchor Jim Payne was the Emcee and City of Orlando Police Chief John Mina delivered a moving keynote speech. The event stirred pride in my heart as I looked out on the many county workers who have served their country in every branch of the armed forces. It made me proud to serve them as an elected official. It also reaffirmed to me that our veterans’ service to our country is part of America’s DNA. On Veterans Day, it is important for everyone to understand the price of their own freedom and to remember the humble heroes who have taught us to always answer America’s call. It goes without saying that those lessons are often paid for with sacrifice: the blood, sweat and tears of ordinary men and women called upon to do extraordinary things.

Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder of Deputy Osceola County, FL – Angel Manual Lopez (DOB 9/13/88), a documented gang member with an extensive criminal history was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Discharging a Firearm in Public, Use of a Firearm Under the Influence of Alcohol, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Resisting Without Violence. On November 6 at approximately 1:43 a.m. deputies working at Old Town responded to a disturbance call located at Sun on the Beach, 5770 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee. Once all of the individuals involved were separated, Deputy John Rios, who overheard Lopez was armed, followed him as

he was exiting the bar. As Deputy Rios was attempting to detain Lopez, a brief struggle ensued and Lopez discharged his weapon which struck the deputy in his leg. Deputy Rios was taken to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries and has since been released. No weapons were discharged by any Osceola County deputies. Lopez was booked into the Osceola County Jail. The investigation is on-going with additional charges pending.

Openings for Self-Defense Awareness Program for Women Osceola County, FL - The Osceola County Sheriff's Office has openings for a self-defense awareness program for women scheduled for November 17 at 6:00 p.m. Self Defense Awareness Familiarization Exchange or SAFE is designed to educate women on how to protect themselves if they should become a victim. The 2-hour class teaches that 90% of self-defense is awareness, risk reduction and

Elecciones / Elections 2016 Elecciones 2016 Condado Osceola, FL - El martes, 8 de noviembre, la Elección General 2016 resultó ser una histórica, con muchos resultados sorprendentes tanto a nivel federal y estatal como local. Una de las mayores sorpresas fue la participación de los votantes, rompiendo los récords por una cantidad considerable. El Condado Osceola tiene 196.325 votantes registrados y el martes se registró un récord de 142.471 votos, lo que significa que la participación de los votantes alcanzó el máximo histórico del 72.57% desde el 2008. Las estadísticas electorales de este año han aumentado considerablemente desde la Elección General de 2012, donde la participación electoral fue del 67%. Donald Trump (R) derrotó a Hillary Clinton (D) para la Presidencia de los Estados Unidos al ganar la victoria en estados clave a través de los Estados Unidos y alcanzar una clara ventaja en el voto electoral. Florida es un estado fundamental en la batalla y lo demostró el Día de las Elecciones, Trump ganó Florida por una estrecha cantidad de votos (119.770), superando a Hillary por sólo 1%. La enmienda 5, que establece la exención tributaria de los residentes “seniors” de bajos ingresos a largo plazo, pasó con 78%. En el referéndum del Condado que establece que los miembros para la Comisión Consultora de Revisión de las Escuelas “Charter” sean nombrados cada seis años pasó, los votantes también aprobaron el referéndum de la Junta Escolar del Condado que proponía un impuesto de ventas de medio centavo para el distrito escolar.

Elections 2016 Osceola County- Tuesday, November 8 proved to be an historic 2016 General Election with many surprising results taking place on a federal, state and local level. Most notably one of the biggest surprises was the voter turnout, breaking past records by a considerable amount. The 2016 General Election proved surprising with many twists and turns on a national and local level. Hispanics made 18% of the vote in Florida which is just 1% higher than in previous years, however, there were more early votes cast by Hispanic voters in 2016 General Election than the entire 2012 General Election in Florida. Osceola County has seen an incredible increase in Hispanic voter turnout and proved to be one of the most important counties in Florida for the presidential race.
