The project team is currently coordinating training efforts with first responders to ensure they are fully prepared should an incident occur. Once the training is complete, a specific opening date can be announced.

I-4 Express will open to traffic with a fixed introductory rate of 50 cents per tolling segment. Traveling the entire length of I-4 Express will cost $3.50 eastbound and $3.00 westbound during the introductory period. Once traffic normalizes and there’s enough data to efficiently optimize managing traffic flow throughout all periods of the day, I-4 Express will transition to variable tolling. Greater Orlando Aviation Authority confirms new Chief Executive Officer Orlando, FL - Kevin Thibault has been confirmed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA). The GOAA Board unanimously voted to approve a five year contract at today’s board meeting.

He was named the preferred candidate at last month’s meeting pending negotiations on terms of employment.

“I feel confident that we have chosen the best of the very best to lead us toward the 22nd century,” said Carson Good, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

“Kevin Thibault will help lead the airport to new heights, with a focus on operational efficiency, flights to more destinations and the most enjoyable airport experience possible.”

As the Secretary of Transportation for the State of Florida, Mr. Thibault oversees a $10 billion annual budget and a vast statewide network of airports, highways, rail systems and seaports. His prior experience includes two other positions within FDOT, along with extensive xperience at several engineering firms since 1985.

In his new role as the leader of Orlando International Airport and Orlando Executive Airport, Mr. Thibault will direct two of Central Florida’s vital economic engines, with a combined budget approaching three quarters of a billion dollars.

He will also oversee the final stages of the multibillion dollar South Terminal C construction project along with future expansion.

Mr. Thibault’s estimated start date is March 21, 2022. However, he may be available to begin as early as March 14, depending on completion of his responsibilities as Secretary of Transportation.

By Julia Keske, Valencia College for Osceola Star Tallahassee, FL - This Wednesday and Thursday the Students Government Association from all of the Valencia College campuses had the opportunity to come to the state’s capital to learn more about leadership, politics and what has been in motion for the future of our generation.

It was an amazing experience to be able to hear from our legislators, and to get to know more about what has been happening from an inside perspective. We also had the privilege of sitting in the house chamber listening to a debate and hear from great speakers like Chancellor Kathyn Hebda who spoke about the importance of integrity and caring for people in the position she currently holds. This grant program is part of Operation Business Boost, a City Commission initiative that serves as a stackable business assistance and growth program to further help entrepreneurs recover from the economic impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

St. Cloud Council votes to turn over water operations to Toho Water St. Cloud, FL - In a move that’s expected to lower water rates for most St. Cloud customers, St. Cloud City Council on Thursday voted 3-2 to turn over the management and operations of the city’s water utility to Toho Water Authority. The agreement is not a sale of the utility, but rather solely gives Toho operational responsibilities.

Council Member Kolby Urban made the motion to approve the plan.

“When I ran for this position, water was a major issue,” he said. “My bottom line is, if we don’t approve this, the rates are going to have to go up; that’s just a fact. I believe in making sure our taxpayers are being taken care of.”

Deputy Mayor Linette Matheny seconded the motion, saying she has looked at the issue from all perspectives. “I wanted to make sure our employees are being taken care, and they are. I wanted to make sure (Toho) was going to continue to make our water quality issues a priority…and they are.

I’ve been questioning for years how we are going to afford the capital projects the City will need, Matheny said. “With this deal, $32.5 million of debt goes away; that’s unheard of. If we don’t do this, our rates are going to go through the roof. The city just can’t afford that.”

Mayor Nathan Blackwell also expressed support.

“I believe this is good for our city residents,” he said. “We’ll still be able to provide quality service. It’s good for our employees, and it’s certainly financially advantageous to the city.”

Council Member Dave Askew said he was surprised when he learned earlier this week that Thursday night’s vote would be the only vote on the issue. “This seems like it was news that was just thrown at our citizens,” Askew said. “I was a hard no on this six months ago when we first talked about it. I’m not a hard no anymore.

“I think there’s some benefit to it.

But we’re making a major decision about one of the largest assets in the city,” he said, adding that "perhaps tonight’s vote should not be the final decision".

Toho Executive Director Todd Swingle told Council members he is confident the agreement has longterm benefits for both utilities.

“It’s a win-win to further strengthen our existing partnership through

this agreement,” Swingle said. “Toho would like to thank City leaders for their vision and confidence.”

Under terms of the agreement,

most residents (76 percent, according to Toho projections) will see lower rates. Toho will retain all St. Cloud Utilities employees with a minimum

annual salary increase of $2,000. St. Cloud will have two voting members and one non-voting ex-officio member on the Toho Board of Supervisors.

City of Orlando launches Redistricting Process and appoints Advisory Board Orlando, FL - Every ten years, after completing the federal census and per Orlando City Charter, the city government must initiate a redistricting process using census data to ensure equal population among districts of the city commission.

As part of this process, the Orlando City Council appointed this week, nine citizen volunteers to the Redistricting Advisory Board (RAB). The board will lead the public outreach effort and offer a redistricting recommendation for consideration by the Orlando City Council at its June meeting.

Orlando, please welcome "Bright Blue" Orlando, FL - Brightline, the only provider of modern, eco-friendly intercity rail welcomes the arrival of its first train to Orlando, “Bright Blue 2.”

Brightline’s newest train set arrived at Brightline’s Vehicle Maintenance Facility located south of Orlando International Airport, marking a historical moment as the first Brightline train to arrive in Orlando.

Bright Blue 2, a six-car train consisting of two locomotives and four passenger coaches, left the Siemens Rolling Stock facility in Sacramento at the end of January. In total Bright Blue 2 traveled 3,000 miles across 10 states in route to Florida.

The Dream.US scholarship Thousands of dollars are earmarked to support the educational development of Central Florida's youth.

There are several scholarship programs that the time to enroll is already running out. Below is a list of these programs and deadlines to apply.

TheDream.US Scholarships Open for Orlando Youth Immigrants: TheDream.US, the college access program for immigrant youth, is offering a round of scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year open to immigrant students from Orlando. Applications are open to immigrant students with or without DACA or TPS who came to the US before the age of 16 and before November 1, 2016. TheDream.

US offers the National Scholarship to undocumented high school graduates or community college graduates living in Florida to attend The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the following partner universities: University of Central Florida, Valencia College, Broward College, Florida International University, Miami Dade College, Palm Beach State College, University of South Florida, and Florida Atlantic University. These students will receive up to $37,000 to cover tuition and fees for a bachelor's degree. The deadline to apply for the National Scholarship is February 28, 2022. Burns y el jefe de la policía, Orlando Rolόn se unieron a los residentes del vecindario Richmond Estates para develar una de las nuevas Mesas de Conexión en Prince Hall Park. Durante el evento inaugural, los residentes también recibieron una demostración formal sobre cómo usar la mesa.

Las mesas de conexión o “Tables of Connection” son mesas de picnic que funcionan con energía solar, brindan sombra y están equipadas con acceso a Wi-Fi y una estación de carga que conectan a los residentes a Internet, les permite cargar hasta cuatro dispositivos inalámbricos y proporcionar energía a cuatro computadoras portátiles a la vez. City unveils “Tables of Connection” in Prince Hall Park Orlando, FL - On Thursday, February 10, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 6 Commissioner Bakari F. Burns and Police Chief Orlando Rolόn joined residents from the Richmond Estates neighborhood to unveil one of the new Tables of Connection in Prince Hall Park. At the unveiling, residents also received a formal demonstration on how to use the table.

The “Tables of Connection” are picnic tables that are solar-powered, shaded and outfitted with a Wi-Fi hotspot and charging station, connecting residents to the internet and allowing them to charge up to four wireless devices and power four laptops at once. As part of the project, a second table was also installed in Willows Park, located in District 5.

The tables will bring needed connectivity to these two areas in which 57% and 33% of residents, respec-

tively, lack broadband service, much higher than the City of Orlando’s average of 18%. Rated for 175 mph winds, each table can provide critically important services to residents after a disaster, allowing people to charge phones, call loved ones, restore services, and get access to emergency information during a power outage.

SpaceX satellites falling out of orbit after solar storm Cape Canaveral, FL (AP) SpaceX’s newest fleet of satellites is tumbling out of orbit after being struck by a solar storm.

Up to 40 of the 49 small satellites launched last week have either reentered the atmosphere and burned up, or are on the verge of doing so, the company said in an online update Tuesday night.

SpaceX said a geomagnetic storm made the atmosphere denser, which increased the drag on the Starlink satellites, effectively dooming them.

Ground controllers tried to save the compact, flat-panel satellites by putting them into a type of hibernation and flying them in a way to minimize drag. But the atmospheric pull was too great, and the satellites failed to awaken and climb to a higher, more stable orbit, according to the company.

SpaceX still has close to 2,000 Starlink satellites orbiting Earth and providing internet service to remote corners of the world. They circle the globe more than 340 miles up (550 kilometers).

The satellites hit by the solar storm were in a temporary position.

any duds can quickly reenter the atmosphere and pose no threat to other spacecraft.

There is no danger from these newly falling satellites, either in orbit or on the ground, according to the company.

Each satellite weighs less than 575 pounds (260 kilograms).

SpaceX described the lost satellites as a “unique situation.” Such geomagnetic storms are caused by intense solar activity like flares, which can send streams of plasma from the sun’s corona hurtling out into space and toward Earth.

Since launching the first Starlink satellites in 2019, Elon Musk envisions a constellation of thousands more satellites to increase internet service. SpaceX is trying to help restore internet service to Tonga through this network following the devastating volcanic eruption and tsunami.

London-based OneWeb has its own internet satellites up there. And Amazon plans to start launching its satellites later this year.

Astronomers are distressed that these mega constellations will ruin nighttime observations from Earth. The International Astronomical Union is forming a new center for the protection of dark skies.

McVay, aprendió de los errores del pasado (como su derrota en el Super Bowl hace tres años), ajustó en el momento indica-do y se convirtió en el entrenador más joven en la historia en ganar un Super Bowl, con tan solo 36 años.
