Osceola County, FL – Seniors and disabled residents who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic are encouraged to apply for a new program.

I’m happy to spearhead this program, that aims to help with finances, and can also ease the mental stress some people may be enduring because of COVID-19 and its impact on the economy,” Commission Vice Chairwoman Viviana Janer said. “This assistance is very important for the residents of Osceola County where many low-income older adults and disabled persons are at risk of being overlooked and underserved.”

The program takes advantage of new rules for Federal assistance. Previously if a child was paying expenses – such as rent and utilities for an elderly parent – and they lost their income, the parent could not apply for help. The new program addresses this issue.

Because it is aimed at seniors and the disabled, only paper applications are being accepted. Up to six months of assistance will be available for rent/mortgage and utilities. Payments will be made directly to mortgage company/landlord and utility company.

Envíe sus obras de arte para ser consideradas para la Exhibición de Arte del Mes de la Herencia Hispana en la Alcaldía de Orlando El municipio de Orlando convoca a artistas visuales a enviar sus propuestas para exhibir sus obras de arte en la galería Terrace de la alcaldía de Orlando durante el Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Las propuestas deben enviarse en o antes del miércoles, 21 de julio de 2021 a las 11:59 p.m. Los artistas seleccionados serán notificados por correo electrónico y se les indicará la fecha y hora de entrega de las piezas de arte en la alcaldía. Submit your artwork for consideration for the Orlando City Hall Hispanic Heritage Month Art Show The City of Orlando invites visual artists to submit their proposals to exhibit their works of art at the Terrace Gallery of the Orlando Mayor's Office during Hispanic Heritage Month. Proposals must be submitted on or before Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. The selected artists will be notified by email and the date and time of delivery of the art pieces will be indicated to the mayor's office. High school students may also wear sandals provided they don’t interfere with the safety and welfare of the student and the school’s administration allows such. Platforms and shoes with wheels may not be worn. • Hats, headgear, or any head covering will not be permitted except when approved by the Principal. • Clothing can be purchased from any retailer or vendor. • School administrators have final authority to decide if clothing complies with the rules. • Parents and students should check with their school about additional shirt colors that are allowed. • No outer garments without zippers or buttons may be worn on school property unless the outer garment is a school-sponsored item. Inside the classrooms, outer garments must be removed, completely unzipped, or left open for the school uniform to be visible. Hoods must be removed from the head while on school property. School-sponsored sweatshirts from the current school may be worn over the approved school uniform.

Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee announces the appointments of Natrevia Gradney-Mitchell as the new director for Public Works & Engineering and Steve Lackey for Parks & Recreation. The City also announces Shantavia “Tavia” Conner as the upcoming Finance Director, taking over the role on July 1, 2021.

La Dra. Kathleen Plinske fue seleccionada por la Junta de Síndicos de Valencia College para convertirse en la quinta presidenta de la universidad, a partir de 01 de julio de 2021. Dr. Kathleen Plinske was selected by the Valencia College Board of Trustees to become the college’s fifth president, starting on July 1st 2021. Prior to being named president, Dr. Plinske served as Valencia’s executive vice president and provost, as well as president of the Osceola, Lake Nona and Poinciana campuses.

In an effort to continue to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccine is accessible to everyone, especially families before the start of the school year, the City of Orlando will establish mobile vaccination sites for residents in their neighborhoods in the coming weeks. Seven City of Orlando neighborhood centers will host one-day COVID-19 vaccination sites to offer Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Residents 18 years of age and older are eligible to receive both types of vaccines and those ages 12-17 can receive the Pfizer vaccine with the consent of an adult. Pre-registration is not required at these vaccination sites. “We have made great strides as a community in stopping the spread of the pandemic thanks to our residents who have been vaccinated,” said Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. “It is critical that we continue to facilitate access to vaccines for as many of our residents as possible, especially families, as adolescents are now eligible to receive it. Sheriff - Police Noticias / News Accidente de atropello y fuga se convierte en persecución de autos Kissimmee, FL— El 29 de junio de 2021, alrededor de las 7:45 a.m., el Departamento de Policía de Kissimmee respondió a un accidente de atropello y fuga en Oak St. y Forrest Ave. Después de que el sospechoso, Brandon Marti, de 31 años (fecha Brandon Marti de nacimiento 18/4/1990), estuvo involucrado en un accidente de atropello y fuga, luego irrumpió en una casa ocupada en Forrest Ave, tomó unas llaves de auto y se robó un auto que estaba parqueado en la entrada. Hit-and-run crash turns into car chase Kissimmee, FL— On June 29, 2021, around 7:45 a.m., the Kissimmee Police Department responded to a hit-and-run crash on Oak St. and Forrest Ave. After the suspect, 31-year-old Brandon Marti (DOB 4/18/1990) was involved in the hit-and-run, he then broke into an occupied home off Forrest Ave, took car keys and stole a car from the driveway. Marti drove the stolen car through a gate at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport where the vehicle became inoperable. He then made his way to a helicopter on property where he was confronted by security. The suspect then stole another truck and crashed outside of the Kissimmee Police Department’s jurisdiction where he was apprehended by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. Marti remains in the hospital being treated for non-life-threatening injuries

Tampa Bay continues on a roll in sports. The Buccaneers are the reigning Super Bowl champions. The Rays are the reigning American League. Today it’s the Lightning’s turn to shine, winning the National Hockey League title for the 2nd year in a row and for the 3rd time in their history.

They beat the Montreal Canadians 1-0 on Thursday night, winning the series 4 games to 1 and lifting the Stanley Cup once again.
