Salud / Health Trump insta a la calma incluso cuando E.U. informa nuevo caso preocupante

Trump urges calm even as U.S. reports worrisome new case

Washington (AP) — President Donald Trump declared that a widespread U.S. outbreak of the new respiratory virus sweeping the globe isn’t inevitable even as top health authorities at his side warned Americans that more infections are coming.

Shortly after Trump spoke Wednesday, the government announced a worrisome development: Another person in the U.S. is infected — someone in California who doesn’t appear to have the usual risk factors of having traveled abroad or being exposed to another patient. At a White House news conference, that lasted close to an hour, Trump sought to minimize fears as he insisted the U.S. is “very, very ready” for whatever the COVID-19 outbreak brings. “This will end,” Trump said of the outbreak. “You don’t want to see panic because there’s no reason to be panicked.” But standing next to him, the very health officials Trump praised for fighting the new coronavirus stressed that schools, businesses and individuals need to get ready. “We do expect more cases,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “Wash your hands, cover your coughs and stay home when you’re sick.” The newest case from California brings the total number infected in the

U.S. to 60, most of them evacuated from outbreak zones. Trump credited border restrictions that have blocked people coming into the U.S. from China for keeping infections low. But now countries around the world — from South Korea and Japan to Italy and Iran — are experiencing growing numbers of cases which can mean more restrictions. Health officials have exhausted an initial $105 million in emergency funding and have been looking elsewhere for dollars. Earlier this week, Trump requested $2.5 billion from Congress to fight the virus. Trump compared the new virus repeatedly to the flu, which kills tens of thousands of people each year. The new coronavirus has killed more than 2,700 people — most in China and none in the U.S. — but scientists still don’t understand who’s most at risk or what the death rate is. A day earlier, another CDC official, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, was even more blunt, telling Americans to get ready for some of the same steps as occurred during the 2009 flu pandemic, such as school closings. “It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen — and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” she said.

Venezuelan university autonomy at risk due to a sentence of the Supreme Court of Justice By Marco A. Jiménez Potenza – El Osceola Star Caracas, Venezuela - In mid-2019, the illegitimate Supreme Court of Justice issued the sentence 0324 where it ordered the authorities of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) and other universities in the country to hold elections to their governing bodies in a period not exceeding six months. This period culminated last Thursday, February 27, 2020, generating protests and discontent by the student community who assured that they will continue protesting and demanding their rights as students.

professors due to the migration crisis. Sentence 0324 also adds that “an elected candidate will be proclaimed only to those who have won in at least three of the five electoral sectors and have obtained, at the same time, the absolute majority of votes”. "If this is not the case, we will proceed to a second round with the two candidates who have obtained the largest number of electoral sectors." Intervening in this way to the autonomy previously enjoyed by universities in Venezuela, which were the main opposition against the regime of Nicolas Maduro.

Through this sentence, a modification of the rules of the election is established, by privileging “the equality of conditions to elect university authorities, enshrined in article 34.3 of the Organic Law of Education”. This implies that the "university electoral sector" will not only consist of the vote of professors, students, and graduates but also with the vote of administrative staff and workers, therefore creating five electoral sectors. Where all the votes will be equal to a single point, which takes advantage of the scarcity of

The student community fears that this sentence will allow the election of rectors related to the regime within the university system and create a model where there is no freedom of thought. This sentence will also be applied in other universities in the country, such as the University of Los Andes, Zulia, Carabobo, Simón Bolívar, Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado, Experimental del Táchira, Experimental Politécnica Antonio José de Sucre y la Católica Andrés Bello.

three-time champion in Mexico, will wear #10 in Miami. But no name bigger than Javier "Chicharito" Hernández’s, after a decade in Europe he becomes the star of the biggest team: Los Angeles Galaxy. In addition, Thierry Henry returns to this league, now as Montreal Impact’s maganer, although the expectations aren’t high. Miami: a long awaited return

MLS Year 25: What to Expect? Bigger and brighter than ever, MLS will start its #25 campaign this weekend. New faces and teams will make their debut this Saturday and Sunday, including Nashville SC and the longawaited Inter Miami, taking the league to a record 26 teams. Joint effort To commemorate the 25 years of its foundation, the MLS decided to launch a new model of kits for all teams. In addition, Oscar winner Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight, Interstellar) helped them create a new anthem to the league. The MLS has ambitious plans to grow, both in popularity within the US, and in global quality. New "known" faces Despite the departure of big names (Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Schweinsteigger), the MLS grew with old acquaintances from Mexican football. Alan Pulido, top scorer with Chivas, came to reinforce Sporting KC who had a disappointing 2019. Lucas Zelarayán, from Tigers to a fortified Columbus Crew. Edison Flores from Morelia to replace Rooney in DC. Orlando City brings World Cup (and former Veracruz) goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, as well as Óscar Pareja, former Tijuana coach. Rodolfo Pizarro,

Miami Fusion was one of the original MLS teams, although it disappeared in 2001. After many years and failed attempts (nobody wanted to take the risk, there was no stadium), David Beckham arrived to return soccer to Latin America’s capital. And he hyped it up: bringing one of the Mexican soccer figures in Rodolfo Pizarro, stealing him from Monterrey (and Europe) for USD 12 million. In addition, it would be no surprise to see world stars like Griezmann, Cavani, Suarez, or even Messi join him. Still, they’re not expected to fight for the title in their first campaign. Beyond Pizarro, the stellar names are veteran AJ de la Garza, Panama’s hero (and current champion) Román Torres, Lee Nguyen, Juan Agudelo and Matías Pellegrini. Orlando City: sixth time’s the charm? The sixth campaign for OSCS will begin looking once again for their first ever playoff berth. Other newer teams have already reached the postseason (Atlanta Utd has done it all of its 3 years of existence), and therefore made a sweep this winter. Gallese will give stability to the purple’s goal. Important names left, such as Kjelstan, Sané, Johnson, Colmán, and what came is little to be excited for, such as Junior Urso, Pereyra, or Loera. The good news is that the east is weaker. And the winner is… The Los Angeles squads are seen as the top candidates. In the east, Atlanta United is the rival to beat, with Columbus Crew and NYCFC as persecutors. Seattle, the champion, kept its core. Season 25 of the MLS starts this Saturday, and it promises to be the one yet.
