The Department of Defense’s Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program awarded BRIDG a contract worth more than $20 million to create a new process to develop the next generation of microelectronic chips that will help secure the United States defense industrial base.

Osceola County, long recognized as a tourist and agriculture economy, is now being recognized by the federal government as a leader in securing the nation’s microelectronics. The IBAS program is dedicated to ensuring that the Department of Defense and the United States is positioned to effectively and efficiently address industrial base issues. The most pressing defense industrial base issue is the ability to make secure microelectronics in the United States. BRIDG, a not-for-profit, publicprivate-partnership located in Osceola County, operates an advanced microelectronics fabrication facility enabling state-ofthe-art manufacturing for industry and government. The microelectronics that are used in large defense projects are frequently outsourced or made by foreign owned companies. Securing the microelectronics supply chain is a priority of the Department of Defense and this award is the first step in a larger effort that the federal government is beginning to undertake. The agreement between IBAS and BRIDG potentially opens the door to larger defense contracts and additional investment from larger private defense contractors from around the country. While much of this technology has initial defense applications, it also positions BRIDG to become a leader in 5G wireless, the Internet of Things, and the creation of countless smart sensors. BRIDG serves as a place where industry and government can create new microelectronic chips, while figuring out the advanced processes to make them. BRIDG is the anchor tenant of NeoCity, a new smart city in Osceola County. Osceola County has been a leading partner in the development of both NeoCity and BRIDG.

Economic development projects bring new jobs to Kissimmee the Kissimmee Gateway Airport’s Kissimmee, FL - Two Qualified Target Industry (QTI) projects that will create high wage jobs in the area were announced during the City Commission meeting held on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 - a new aerospace company that will invest $1.7 million at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport and a medical practice that will expand its services within the Medical Arts District. Mach1 Aviation LLC will invest $1.7 million to construct a new 30,000 sq. ft. hangar that will offer maintenance and repair overhaul (MOR) service. The location will also be home to a new helicopter dealership. Repairs & restoration work completed at Kissimmee Lakefront Park Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee announces the completion of repairs and restoration on damages caused by Hurricane Irma to the Lighthouse point, Earthen Breakwater, and the marina boat slips. While preliminary assessments and clean-up to damaged areas occurred immediately after Hurricane Irma on September 2017, the City was unable to begin restoration efforts until the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) completed its review of the project’s scope of work and funding request. The total cost for repairs was $480,590.63. The federal share of the expenses is 75% that was paid by FEMA. City's Flushing Program Saint Cloud, FL - The City of St. Cloud continues to conduct routine flushing throughout the City’s water system to eliminate accumulated sediment that discolors water and has been reported by residents. They recognize that this is frustrating and inconvenience. The City declared: “We understand your concerns, and continue to work aggressively to resolve any possible discoloration in the city’s watering system. In the meantime, as crews continue flushing, residents may notice a temporary drop in water pressure and/or discolored water, particularly in proximity to the areas being flushed. Please know that when hydrants are flushed in one area of the City, water in some other service areas could also become discolored.” “As we’ve made public in the past, the flushing process moves significant amounts of water and quickly. When water in the main pipe is moving quickly it sometimes picks up sediment in the pipe which can lead to the discoloration and is simply unavoidable.” “We are in the final stages of installing new polishing units that will further filter the treated water to help remove sediment from city pipes.” “Without question, discolored water is unappealing, but all routine testing that has been done to this point shows our water meets State and Federal standards. Venezuela / Aquí Segunda Bajada de la Chinita en Orlando/Kissimmee Por Marco A. Jiménez Potenza – El Osceola Star Orlando, FL – Por segunda vez consecutiva en el área de Orlando, la tradición venezolana de la bajada y procesión de la Virgen de la Chiquinquirá se llevó a cabo. Presentada por el restaurante Maracaibo Mía y organizada por el periódico El Osceola Star junto con el Padre José Palmar y su equipo. Este evento logró realizarse en la tarde del sábado, 26 de octubre del 2019 en las inmediaciones del Valencia College, Campus Osceola. Contando así con la asistencia de un aproximado de 3 mil personas, venezolanos e hispanos residentes del norte, sur y centro de la Florida. Aunque los pronósticos del tiempo indicaban que iba a ver una gran llovizna, ocurrió todo lo contrario y nada impidió que se realizará la Solemne Bajada a la Chinita con un calor al estilo de Maracaibo. Con un acompañamiento musical de la Serenata Mariana de los Gaiteros de la Virgen junto con el cantante venezolano Rafael "Pollo" Brito juntos cantaron melodías en honor a la virgen. Con la ayuda de más de 50 voluntarios y el apoyo de varios patrocinadores, este evento logró unir a la comunidad venezolana para celebrar una de las más conmemorativas tradiciones que caracterizan a la esencia del venezolano.

Venezuela / Here Second Descent of " La Chinita " in Orlando/Kissimmee By Marco A. Jiménez Potenza – El Osceola Star Orlando, FL – For the second year in a row in the Greater Orlando area, the Venezuelan tradition of the descent and procession of the “Virgen de Chiquinquirá” was carried out. Presented by the restaurant Maracaibo Mía and organized by Osceola Star newspaper along with Father Jose Palmar and his team, this event took place during the afternoon of Saturday October 26, at Valencia College, Osceola Campus. Approximately 3,000 people attended the event among Venezuelans and Hispanics residents of North, South and Central Florida. Although the weather forecasts indicated that there would be a lot of rain, nothing prevented the Solemn Descend of "La Chinita," even with a Maracaibo-style heat (hottest city in Venezuela). With music of Mariana Serenade of the “Gaiteros de la Virgen” together with well-known Venezuelan singer Rafael "Pollo" Brito sang melodies in honor of the virgin. Which with the help of more than 50 volunteers and the support of several sponsors, this event brought together the Venezuelan community to celebrate one of the most commemorative traditions that characterize their heritage. At the end of the procession and the descent of the virgin, Father José Palmar and his team presented a commemorative plaque to Guillermo Hansen, editor of Osceola Star newspaper, of eternal gratitude for his appreciable collaboration and contribution to this celebration of the Venezuelan culture. In the same way, the “Casa de Venezuela” organization took this opportunity to give a recognition to Valencia College’s Superintendent of Plant Operations, Marty Campbell, for his support and solidarity to the Venezuelan community of Central Florida. Tragic accident at Sun Rail station Kissimmee, FL - On Monday, October 28th, at approximately 6:24 a.m. Kissimmee Police received a call from Sun Rail regarding an incident involving a pedestrian and one of their trains. Detectives were on scene investigating. This was an isolated incident and was contained to the area of West Monument and the Railroad Tracks. Traffic was blocked at Broadway and West Monument. No southbound trains were available from the Kissimmee Sun Rail station or trains coming north from the Poinciana station for a while. Roadway was opened back up at 10:08 am to normal traffic. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified as Michael Douglas Thomas McCray, DOB 3/24/1994. No more information is available at this time.

The strongest NFC ever Although 4 of the last 5 champions have been from the AFC, nowadays, outside the Patriots, the strongest teams are all from the NFC. Practically half a season is gone, and it’s time to review why the National Conference looks so strong. Maybe the NFC of the early 90s had Young's 49ers, Aikman's Cowboys, Gibbs’ Redskins, Parcells’ Giants and Favre’s Packers, but never in its history had 10 or 11 competitive, high-quality teams. At this point, there’s not a single unbeatable team, but a handful of contestants. The unbeaten 49ers look quite strong, with an excellent coach in Kyle Shanahan (HC of the year in my book) and a brutal and young defense, but we must remember that last year they finished 4-12, and that they’re still under reconstruction. New Orleans lost Drew Brees and still won every game (5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater). That’s a sign of a solid, talented, well coached team, and for me, the opponent to beat. Oh, and they just recovered Brees. Green Bay, with a more relaxed Aaron Rodgers (since they don't need him to play perfectly every Sunday), great running game and its best defense since winning the Super Bowl, will also be very difficult. Philadelphia is so talented, although undisciplined and with ups and downs. The same could be said of Dallas. One of the two will be divisional champion; the other will hardly reach the wild card.

A estas alturas, no hay un solo equipo imbatible, pero sí un puñado de contendientes. Los 49ers invictos lucen muy fuertes, con un excelente coach en Kyle Shanahan (para mí el HC del año) y una brutal y joven defensiva, pero hay que recordar que el año pasado acabaron 4-12, y que aún están en reconstrucción. Nueva Orleans perdió a Drew Brees y aun así ganó cada partido (5-0 con Teddy Bridgewater). Eso es muestra de un equipo sólido, talentoso, bien entrenado, y para mí, el rival a vencer. Ah, y ya recuperaron a Brees. Philadelphia es muy talentoso, aunque indisciplinado y con altibajos. Lo mismo podríamos decir de Dallas. Uno de los dos saldrá campeón divisional; al otro difícilmente le alcanzará para el comodín. Seattle está comandado por un Russell Wilson favorito al MVP. La defensiva no es la misma de antes, pero Pete Carroll sigue siendo un coach de élite, tienen 7 temporadas ganadoras consecutivas, y ahora son un excelente equipo visitante. Carolina está inspirado, aún sin Cam Newton, con un McCaffrey en estado de gracia y una defensiva muy física y potente. Kyle Allen lo ha hecho muy bien y oficialmente hay controversia de mariscales en Charlotte. Los Rams, actuales campeones de la conferencia se reforzaron con la llegada de Jalen Ramsey, y siguen siendo de temer, sobretodo tras haber recuperado a Cooper Kupp. Goff poco a poco recupera su nivel, y aunque a Todd Gurley le robaron su talento, Los Ángeles sigue siendo candidato. Chicago es tema aparte. Esa defensiva sigue siendo de élite, aún tras la partida de Vic Fangio, antiguo coordinador defensivo. Pero la ofensiva es anémica. Es cada vez más evidente que Mitch Trubisky no es el QB del futuro para los Bears. Con un QB decente, Chicago es candidatazo. Minnesota ha ganado 4 en fila, Kirk Cousins ha jugado muy bien (oh sorpresa), y la defensiva es muy buena. Aunque yo no confío en ellos. Y podemos agregar a Detroit a la lista, ya que le ha jugado al tú por tú a candidatos como Chiefs o Packers, tienen una muy buena ofensiva y pelearán hasta el final.
