Orange Star Noticias / News Surveillance cameras on local trails at Orange County Orange County, FL - As a proactive public safety measure for the community, Orange County Parks and Recreation Division has installed four new surveillance cameras on multi-use pedestrian trails, including West Orange Trail, Pine Hills Trail, Little Econ Greenway and Cady Way Trail. The cameras have been placed in locations purposely visible in an effort to deter after-hours activity and crime. Orange County collaborated with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to determine which camera system to use and suitable locations in which to place them on the trails, which close after sunset. The solar-powered FlashCAM system takes still photographs and gives an audible warning to trespassers. It is also portable, which means it can be moved to various areas throughout the trail network. Each camera costs $7,000 and is 10” wide x 7 ¾” high x 9 ¼” deep at the base and 11 ¼” deep on the hood. Suedmeyer added this is just the first step in enhancing public safety in Orange County. “Right now, we’re deploying cameras on our high-use trails, but as we measure their success, we’ll add more both on our trails and in our parks.”

Message from the Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Courts on

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

It is imperative in humans to be aware of their cultural roots, especially at the time of the year designated as our Hispanic Heritage Month. It is prudent to know our origin, where we come from, where we are and more importantly, to know where we are going. In recent years we have had a great flow of Puerto Ricans who have been compelled to leave Puerto Rico due to hurricanes such as Irma and María and a great recession that has extended for several years and still continues to afflict our compatriots. Local and nationwide governments have been generous and have done everything possible to help these refugees — especially in Osceola County and their respective cities of Kissimmee and Saint Cloud. People emanating from the Hispanic heritage nations—comprising approximately twenty nations in Latin America—seek integration more than anything else in their new home. The expectation of some individuals that Hispanics should assimilate is not sensible. Truly those individuals who criticize the new members do not have a good grammatical concept of the difference of both words: “assimilation” or “integration.” When a person is integrated into their new environment, it is not necessary to shed their cultural roots; on the contrary, the person benefits from having the advantage of enriching their personality by having abundant new cultural options. Our nation has benefited greatly from the great contribution made by the Hispanic community emanating from Puerto Rico and Latin America. Contributions have been in the economic, academic and military service representing our nation, culturally improving this great tapestry of the United States of America. As Clerk of the Circuit Courts in Osceola County, this public servant and my associates are here to serve you and help our residents with excellence, performing over a thousand functions in accordance with the Constitution of the United States of America, the Constitution of the State of Florida, and other laws related to the performance of my duties.

Venezuela Here Venezuelans enjoy their culture in Florida Por Marco A. Jiménez Potenza – El Osceola Star Osceola, FL - According to the United Nations refugee agency, more than 350,000 Venezuelans have emigrated to the United States, and it is estimated that more than 100,000 are living in the state of Florida. By hosting this large number of Venezuelans, Florida has benefited in the economic, labor, and social spheres, allowing them to create a prosperous place for investment and stay. Over the years, communities in southern and central Florida, especially in the Hunter’s Creek area, have adopted part of Venezuela’s culture and traditions. International “Arepa Day” has been celebrated, new statues have been raised in honor of the Venezuelan hero Simón Bolívar and even in the city of Orlando, the Zuliana tradition of the Solemn Descent of the Virgin of Chiquinquirá has been celebrated, colloquially known as the Virgen de la Chinita. This Venezuelan tradition dates back to the year 1749 when a woman washed her clothes on the shores of the lake of Maracaibo and suddenly saw a thin wooden board floating, which she picked up thinking that it could be useful to cover the jar of water she had at home. The next morning, the table began to shine and the image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá appeared. Then the lady's house became a memorial temple. Over the years, this story began attracting multiple believers, which led to the Virgin of La Chiquinquirá descent every 18th of November in Maracaibo. This event will be held again on October 26 at the Osceola campus of Valencia College at 1:00 p.m. and it will have the spiritual direction of Father José Palmar; Venezuelan singer Pollo Brito and musical group: Gaiteros de la Virgen. The event is presented by Maracaibo Mia and Osceola Star newspaper. If you have any questions, please call (407) 8702111. In South Florida, many Venezuelans have been relocated in Miami, Weston and Doral areas, which has created great well-being and prosperity. Venezuelan comedian George Harris began to be known in those areas with his weekly show, and then he was brought to Central Florida by Osceola Star Newspaper. On November 2, George’s show will be presented for the sixth consecutive year at the Osceola Performing Art Center, hoping it will be sold out again. George, through his daily life and his new show "Hijo Unico", promises at all who will see him intense laughter. You cannot miss it, visit his website at www.elgeorgeharris.com.

Being a disappointment is based on expectations. If what is expected of these Browns is the championship, it’s logical that they are the letdown of the year. If instead a competitive team is expected, that may achieve a winning record and enter the playoffs, but above all take a step forward, that can be accomplished.

The Browns will always be the Browns One of the storylines in the offseason was the possible resurgence of the Cleveland Browns. And the thing is, any movement that smells like hope, is blow up to the fullest in Cleaveland. We are talking about a franchise that has not been successful since the 80’s, with 3 (!) defeats against the Elway Broncos in the Conference championship, two of them in the most heart-breaking way possible. A franchise that wasted Bill Belichick, ceased to exist to move to Baltimore (where they have won two SB), and that since they returned, they haven’t been transcendent. They hit rock bottom in 2017, when they were the second team in history to finish 0-16, right after finishing 1-15. The good news was that with the high draft picks, they managed to gather a lot of talent. Myles Garrett, Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Denzel Ward, Jarvis Landry, David Njoku. Hopes exploded when in March arrived Kareem Hunt and, specially, the controversial Odell Beckham Jr. Some even put them as Super Bowl favorites, but they forgot they haven't had a winning season since 2002.

The inexplicable thing is that the management of Cleveland (one of the worst in the whole country), decided that the ideal man to exploit all this enormous talent is Freddie Kitchens, who had never coached a game in his life. They chose him, in a nutshell, because he was there. It would have been different if they had taken a chance on Mike McCarthy, or Lincoln Riley, the best college HC after Saban. At that point, I knew the Browns would fall short. Today, they are a team with no identity. When they run well, they stop. They try to feed OBJ too much, when Landry is more effective. Mayfield has been too erratic. The defense is good but not elite. It’s notorious that they are poorly coached, when they make some calls that make me scratch my head. Above all, it doesn't matter if you have 15 weapons and a great QB, without a decent offensive line, you won't get far. And they just switched their best lineman (Kevin Zeitler) to bring OBJ. Thus, Baker doesn’t have time to throw, there is no running game, and he commits losses. The result: Baker is the player with the most turnovers since 2018 (and he played until week 6). Not everything is lost for Cleveland. They are one game shy from Baltimore, and the conference is extremely open, but they have not been consistent (they have not linked consecutive results), nor have they lived up to what was expected. My proposal: lower the expectations, this is long term. Improve the offensive line. Forget OBJ’s ego. Stop talking that much. And go get McCarthy next year. Please.
