Fifth Osceola County safe surrender event on August 27, 2019 Osceola County, FL - The fifth Osceola County safe surrender event hosted by the Osceola County Clerk of the Circuit Court, Ninth Judicial Circuit, Osceola County Government, Offices of the Public Defender and State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the Kissimmee and St. Cloud Police Departments and the Department of Corrections will take place on August 27, 2019 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event will be held at the Kissimmee Civic Center located at 201 East Dakin Avenue in Downtown Kissimmee. Individuals will be given an opportunity to “swap out” their nonviolent misdemeanor warrant for a court date in a safe and non-hostile environment. Onsite at this location will be County Probation, Assistant State Attorneys and Assistant Public Defenders which allow the potential for individuals to have their
case resolved on this day. The only warrants addressed at this event will be Osceola County warrants. Those individuals that wish to participate must bring photo identification and they are asked to not bring weapons or children to this event. Two thousand four hundred sixteen (2,416) post cards were mailed out to individuals identified with an active misdemeanor warrant, dating as far back as 2010. Osceola County Noticias / News New texting while driving law Osceola County, FL – The new texting and driving law was effective from 7/1/2019. Texting While Driving is a primary offense under F.S 316.305. Deputies are going to be issuing a written warning for a first-time violator until January 1, 2020. However, deputies have the discretion to issue a citation for a 2nd or subsequent violation. Here are some TEXTING WHILE DRIVING reminders: • A person cannot drive while typing into a wireless device. A person cannot read data on such a device for purpose of communication. (i.e. texting, e-mailing, etc.)

Get counted in the 2020 Census Orlando, FL - The United States census counting plays an important role in the distribution of federal funds to local governments helping to ensure that the City of Orlando can offer essential services such as firefighters, public safety, infrastructure and public education. This week, Mayor Dyer, elected officials from our region and Florida TaxWatch offered a press conference
to remind residents of the importance of being counted in the 2020 census, which will begin early next year. The 2020 census is extremely important for the Hispanic community because it shows the growth of the population in Central Florida, it will be reflected in the allocation of funds in services for Latinos, the redistribution of districts and the creation of jobs.

Advanced Disposal delivers carts to residents of Osceola Osceola County, FL - Advanced Disposal and their cart partner, Rehrig Pacific Company, have begun the distribution of the new garbage and recycling carts and the deliveries will continue through September. Each resident will be receiving one (1) tan garbage cart with a tan lid and one (1) tan recycling cart with a blue lid. Along with the carts, will be an informational packet containing important information regarding the new services. Advanced Disposal is working closely with Osceola County to ensure that the transition to the new services is as seamless as possible. If you don’t immediately see your new carts, do not be alarmed. They will arrive before the October 1st
start date. Please keep in mind that although you are receiving new carts, they cannot be used until your first day of collection in October. Please continue to use your current recycle carts through the end of September, at which time our current provider will pick them up. Advanced Disposal will begin providing curbside collection services to the residents of Osceola County on October 1st, and collection schedules will be mailed to residents in September. Amigos Helping Amigos Scholarships Awards Luncheon Kissimmee, FL - On friday, August 2nd, 2019 at the Osceola Council on Aging in Kissimmee, Amigos Helping Amigos in partnership with Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry, the Hispanic Business Council Kissimmee/ Osceola represented by Chair Monica Chavero and Florida Technical College, along with other sponsors presented scholarships of $2,500 each to 7 welldeserving students. This special award luncheon recognized the scholarship recipients outstanding achievements. The speakers at the luncheon were County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry and past scholarship recipient Elizabeth Sabillon. Amigos Helping Amigos Scholarship Recipients of 2019: Agostina Manatrizio, graduated from Gateway High School and will start her major in Biomedical Sciences this fall at the AdventHealth University. Xelayris Martinez, graduated from Windermere high school and will begin her major in legal studies with a minor in Business at the University of Central Florida. Marco Antonio Jimenez Potenza, previously graduated St. Cloud High School and will be attending the University of Central Florida majoring in Journalism with a minor in Digital Media.
Catherine Higareda, a dual enrollment student who graduated from Osceola County School of Arts and Valencia College and will start at the University Central Florida in the fall. She will be pursuing her master’s in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in Business Administration. Caroline Serrano who graduated from TECO a professional and technical high school with dual enrollment at Valencia College will be attending Florida State University. Robo a mano armada y secuestro Condado Osceola, FL - El 23 de julio de 2019, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola recibió el informe de un robo a mano armada que ocurrió en el área de W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway y Siesta Lago Drive en Kissimmee. La víctima informó que se reunió con Angelique López y decidieron comprar narcóticos. Angelique junto con Kareem Acevedo se reunieron con la víctima. Kareem sacó una pistola y ésta junto a Angelique obligaron a la víctima a conducir hacia un cajero automático para retirar efectivo. Durante el incidente, Kareem descargó el arma de fuego dentro del vehículo de la víctima.

Armed robbery and kidnapping Osceola County, FL - On July 23, 2019, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed robbery which occurred in the area of W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Siesta Lago Drive in Kissimmee, Florida. The victim advised they met with Angelique Lopez and decided to purchase narcotics. Angelique along with Kareem Acevedo met with the victim. Kareem pulled-out a handgun and both Kareem and Angelique forced the victim to drive to an ATM machine to withdraw cash. During the incident Kareem discharged the firearm inside of the victim’s vehicle.
Los detectives pudieron arrestar a Angelique López y Kareem Acevedo. En el momento del arresto Kareem estaba en posesión de un arma de fuego y propiedad robada perteneciente a la víctima. Tanto Kareem como Angelique cooperaron con los detectives en la investigación.
Detectives were able to arrest Angelique Lopez and Kareem Acevedo; at the time of Kareem’s arrest he was in possession of a firearm and stolen property belonging to the victim. Both Kareem and Angelique cooperated with detectives in the investigation.

Kareem Acevedo está acusado de portar un Arma de Fuego Oculta, Robo a Mano Armada con un Arma de Fuego, Secuestro, Gran Robo y Descarga de un Arma de Fuego. Kareem también tenía una orden activa del Condado Polk por Robo a Mano Armada.

Kareem Acevedo is charged with Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Kidnapping, Grand Theft, and Discharging a Firearm. Kareem also had an active warrant out of Polk County for Armed Burglary.

La persona que llamófue a visitar a su amiga, Coralis Enid Remigio Rivera, de 17 años, FDN 07/05/2001, en su casa móvil en 1313 Roscoe Drive Kissimmee, cuando entró en la casa, encontró a Rivera muerta.

A male caller was checking on his friend, 17-year-old, Coralis Enid Remigio Rivera (DOB 07/05/2001) at her mobile home (address: 1313 Roscoe Drive Kissimmee Fl). When he entered the home, he found Rivera dead inside.
Due to the circumstances surrounding Rivera’s death, the Kissimmee Police Department treated the case as a homicide investigation. However, as the investigation unfolded detectives learned Rivera was expressing suicidal thoughts in her journal and may have taken her own life. The Medical Examiner’s Office has since officially ruled her death a suicide. In conjunction with their decision and our continued investigative efforts, this case has been closed.
