Salud / Health St. Cloud Regional Medical Center renueva su unidad de cuidados intensivos St. Cloud, FL - St.Cloud Regional Medical Center completó las renovaciones de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) y devolvió a los pacientes una unidad completamente renovada el lunes 22 de julio de 2019. El proyecto se completó a principios del verano sin interrumpir la atención al paciente, gracias a la Unidad de Decisión Clínica del hospital, que albergó temporalmente la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos durante todo el proyecto. Las renovaciones de la UCI incluyeron una nueva estación de enfermería, nueva iluminación, nuevos pisos, pintura nueva, baños renovados y espacio para descanso del personal, así como una actualización de los armarios de pacientes y áreas de almacenamiento. La finalización del proyecto de renovación de la UCI significa la finalización de un proyecto más grande en el que todas las habitaciones de pacientes internados en el Regional Medical Center han pasado por una renovación parcial o completa en los últimos cuatro años. St. Cloud Regional Medical Center completes intensive care unit renovation St. Cloud, FL - St. Cloud Regional Medical Center has completed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) renovations and returned patients to the fully refurbished unit on July 22, 2019. The project was completed over the beginning of the Summer with no interruption to patient care, due to the use of the hospital’s Clinical Decision Unit, which temporarily housed the Intensive Care Unit throughout the project. The ICU renovations included a new nursing station, new lighting, new flooring, new paint, refreshed bathrooms and staff break space, as well as an update to the patient wardrobes and storage areas.

The completion of the ICU renovation project signifies the finalization of a larger project wherein every inpatient room at St. Cloud Regional Medical Center has been through a partial or complete renovation over the last four years. These overall renovations correspond with the opening of a brand-new front entrance and new Emergency Department in September 2018, as well as the recently announced groundbreaking of a new ambulatory Medical Office Building set to open in 2020. Puerto Rico News Puerto Rico intenta elegir nuevo gobernador en medio de crisis San Juan, PR - El partido de gobierno de Puerto Rico estaba en plena crisis el jueves cuando el candidato a suceder al gobernador saliente Ricardo Rosselló se dirigió a un voto de confirmación disputado e incierto en la legislatura del territorio estadounidense. Rosselló se marcha este viernes frente a una protesta pública masiva y nominó al veterano político y abogado Pedro Pierluisi para sucederlo. Pierluisi es un ex representante ante el Congreso de los EE.UU., visto por la mayoría de los puertorriqueños comunes como una figura conciliadora y relativamente controvertida, que es poco probable que se cumplan con continuas manifestaciones callejeras sobre el mal gobierno y la corrupción. Pierluisi sucedería a Rosselló si la Cámara y el Senado lo confirman como secretario de Estado, el próximo en convertirse en gobernador bajo la constitución puertorriqueña. El puesto está actualmente vacante y el Partido Nuevo Progresista de Rosselló tiene mayorías en ambas cámaras de la legislatura, lo que significa que un partido unido podría nombrar fácilmente al próximo gobernador. El principal obstáculo de Pierluisi parecía ser el presidente del Senado Thomas Rivera Schatz, quien dijo que no votará por el candidato de Rosselló y que quiere ser gobernador. Puerto Rico tries to pick new governor amid crisis San Juan, PR - Puerto Rico’s governing party was in full-blown crisis Thursday as the nominee to succeed departing Gov. Ricardo Rosselló headed to a disputed and uncertain confirmation vote in the U.S. territory’s legislature. Rosselló is leaving Friday in the face of massive public protest and has nominated veteran politician and attorney Pedro Pierluisi to succeed him. Pierluisi is a former representative to the U.S. Congress seen by most ordinary Puerto Ricans as a conciliatory, relatively uncontroversial figure, unlikely to be met by continued street demonstrations over poor governance and corruption. Pierluisi would succeed Rosselló if he’s confirmed by the territorial House and Senate as secretary of state, the next in line to become governor under the Puerto Rican constitution. The post is currently vacant and Rosselló’s New Progressive Party holds majorities in both chambers of the legislature,

meaning a united party could easily name the next governor. Pierluisi’s main obstacle appeared to be Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, who has said he won’t vote for Rosselló’s nominee and wants to be governor himself. Rivera Schatz is a powerful figure deeply associated with Puerto Rico’s political and business elite, and his elevation to governorship could re-ignite popular outrage. House and Senate sessions on Pierluisi hadn’t started as planned at 11 a.m. Thursday even as ruling party lawmakers met in closed door sessions to seek a solution. Many Puerto Rican legislators were predicting that Pierluisi did not have the votes to be confirmed. Several lawmakers have already proposed Rivera Schatz, a declared candidate for the 2020 governor’s election, as their choice to replace Rosselló. If a secretary of state is not named

by Friday, Justice Secretary Wanda Vázquez would be next in line. She has said she doesn’t want the job and those further down the line of succession are either too young for the job or are barely known bureaucrats seen as unqualified for the position. House of Representatives President Johnny Méndez, a member of the governing party, has said Pierluisi does not have the votes needed in the house. Puerto Rico’s 3 million people are U.S. citizens who can’t vote for president and don’t have a voting representative in Congress. While politicians are members of the Democratic or Republican parties, the island’s main political dividing line is between the PNP (New Progressive Party) which favors statehood, and

the PDP (popular Democratic Party), which favors a looser association with the federal government. Those parties’ memberships both contain a mix of Democrats and Republicans. Rosselló is leaving after two weeks of massive street protests by Puerto Ricans outraged at corruption, mismanagement and an obscenitylaced chat that was leaked in which Rosselló and 11 other men made fun of women, gay people and victims of Hurricane Maria. Pierluisi represented Puerto Rico in Congress from 2009-2017 and then ran against Rosselló in the 2016 primaries and lost. He also previously served as justice secretary under Rosselló’s father, Pedro Rosselló, when he was governor.

Senador Menéndez reacciona a bloqueo Republicano del TPS para Venezuela Washington, D.C. - El senador Bob Menéndez (D-N.J.), Miembro de Más Alto Rango del Comité de Relaciones Exteriores, reaccionó después de que los Republicanos del Senado bloquearan su esfuerzo para aprobar de manera unánime el proyecto de ley bipartidista para ofrecerle protecciones a los venezolanos en EU el cual fue adoptado en la Cámara de Representantes. De haberse aprobado este proyecto de ley, se le otorgaría un Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS, por sus siglas en inglés) a aproximadamente 200,000 venezolanos que actualmente viven en los Estados Unidos y se encuentran en riesgo de ser deportados. Luego de que la solicitud de aprobar unánimemente la legislación fuera bloqueada por los Republicanos, el senador Menéndez indicó que “es una falla moral inconcebible que el Senado no apruebe esta legislación... Menendez reacts after Republicans blocked Venezuela TPS Washington, D.C. - Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, delivered the following remarks on the Senate Floor after Senate Republicans blocked a unanimous consent (UC) request to immediately approve the House-passed Venezuela TPS Act of 2019. Menendez was joined on the Senate Floor by Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (DIL). The bipartisan legislation would provide Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 200,000 eligible Venezuelans that currently reside in the United States and are at risk of deportation.

Senator Menendez, who traveled to the Colombia-Venezuela border earlier this month to review the Venezuelan refugee and migrant crisis, was the first author of bipartisan legislation designating Venezuela for TPS in December 2018. In February of this year, Menendez and Durbin reintroduced the bipartisan Venezuela Temporary Protected Status Act of 2019. The Senators recently blasted the Trump Administration Acting U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Ken Cuccinelli after he officially informed the Senate that President Trump would refuse to designate Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status.

Enmascarado deja sin luz a miles en Kissimmee Lake Buena Vista, FL - El martes, 30 de julio, en la madrugada, un mapache renegado saltó la valla de una subestación eléctrica de Kissimmee, cortando la energía a 2,844 clientes de la Autoridad de Servicios Públicos de Kissimmee Utility Autority durante una hora. El mapache se subió a un interruptor de 13,200 voltios dentro de la subestación del aeropuerto de la empresa de servicios públicos a las 5:01 a.m. lo que provocó el fallo de tres líneas principales de alimentación. Bandit knocks out power to thousands in Kissimmee Lake Buena Vista, FL - On Friday, July 30, a rogue raccoon jumped the fence of a Kissimmee electrical substation early Tuesday morning, singlepawedly knocking out power to 2,844 customers of Kissimmee Utility Authority for an hour. The raccoon climbed onto a 13,200-volt breaker inside the utility’s Airport Substation at 5:01 a.m. Tuesday, causing three primary feeder lines to fail. The substation, one of 11 serving the Kissimmee area, is located off Hoagland Blvd., just south of the Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway. Raccoons are excellent climbers and notoriously curious—a threatening combination which results in substation outages across the U.S. each year. KUA crews restored the feeders at 6:03 a.m., 6:04 a.m. and 6:05 a.m. sadly, the raccoon did not survive.

Later DNA evidence led to the identity and arrests of Torrence Blackshear and Trevor Bailey. Torrence Blackshear was arrested for the active warrant and cooperated with detectives in the case. Torrance Blackshear is currently incarcerated in the Osceola County Jail on zero bond for Armed Robbery Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery, and Grand Theft. Trevor Bailey is currently incarcerated in the Orange County Jail and is also charged with Armed Robbery Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery, and Grand Theft with a zero bond.

Burglary & Grand Theft arrests Osceola County, FL - Since March 2019, the Tourist Corridor of West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway began experiencing an increase in television thefts from vacation rentals. During the investigation, detectives with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Tourism Policing Unit identified a possible suspect by the name of Kristopher Aaron Monroe (DOB 04/06/89). Detectives initiated a surveillance operation and on July 24, 2019, at approximately 0300 hours, Kristopher and Caitlin M. Harter (DOB 07/14/97) were observed entering the Wyndham Cypress Palms Resort, located at 5324 Fairfield Lake Drive, Kissimmee, Florida. Upon entering the resort, Kristopher burglarized one of the rooms and removed three flat screen televisions from therein. Kristopher ultimately placed the televisions into the trunk of his vehicle with the assistance of Caitlin. As detectives attempted to make the arrest, Kristopher intentionally struck several law enforcement vehicles in an aggravated attempt to flee. After several unsuccessful attempts in fleeing, Kristopher exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Kristopher was subsequently taken into custody and placed under arrest along with Caitlin. Kristopher and Caitlin refused to cooperate with the investigation and were subsequently booked into the Osceola County Jail. Monroe was charged with; Burglary to Unoccupied Dwelling, Grand Theft, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Resisting Arrest with Violence and Resisting Arrest without Violence. Harter was charged with Burglary to Unoccupied Dwelling and Grand Theft.
