Festival Kowtown de la Ciudad de Kissimmee Kissimmee, FL - El sábado, 30 de marzo, se llevó a cabo el Festival Kowtown, que celebra el 136th aniversario de la Ciudad de Kissimmee en el Kissimmee Lakefront Park. El festival fue organizado por la Ciudad de Kissimmee y patrocinado por Kissimmee Utility Authority y Experience Kissimmee. Los invitados musicales de este año fueron UNiTY y Thomas Wynn & The Believers. La gente pudo disfrutar de un cono de nieve gratis, dar un paseo en un toro mecánico, deslizarse por inflables, rebotar en la casa de obstáculos o hacer una carrera de obstáculos, hacer un collar de vaqueros o tomarse una “selfie” en la cabina fotográfica de Kowtown. City of Kissimmee Kowtown Festival Kissimmee, FL - On Saturday, March 30, was held the Kowtown Festival, celebrating the 136th birthday of the City of Kissimmee at the Kissimmee Lakefront Park. The festival was hosted by the City of Kissimmee and sponsored by Kissimmee Utility Authority and Experience Kissimmee. Musical guests at this year’s Kowtown Festival were UNiTY and Thomas Wynn & The Believers. People could enjoy a free snow cone, a ride on a mechanical bull, inflatable slide, bounce house or obstacle course, craft a cowboy necklace or take a selfie in the Kowtown photo booth. KUA employee volunteers staffed the one-acre Kids Corral to ensure that everyone had a fun and memorable day celebrating Kissimmee's 136th birthday.

Early voting location at Valencia’s Osceola Campus Kissimme, FL – Valencia’s Osceola Campus will host an Early Voting location for May’s special tax referendum election. With the addition of this site, there are 7 sites throughout the county. The tax increase will be used for the construction of sidewalks, bike paths and pedestrian crossings. Se abre el nuevo centro de formación acelerada del Valencia College Condado Osceola, FL - El nuevo Centro de Capacitación Acelerada del Valencia College abrió sus puertas al público y a los socios de la comunidad en una recepción especial el 2 de abril. La nueva instalación se encuentra en el Campus de Osceola de Valencia College. El nuevo centro comenzó operaciones en enero y proporcionó más espacio permanente para los programas de idiomas a corto plazo de Valencia en el Condado Osceola. Además del inglés intensivo y el inglés para hablantes de otros idiomas, se ofrecerán múltiples programas de capacitación en habilidades aceleradas en la primavera, incluido el de operador de equipos pesados, técnico de mantenimiento de apartamentos, ayudante médico clínico, carpintería y logística de transporte. Valencia College’s new center for accelerated training opens Osceola County, FL -El Valencia College’s new Center for Accelerated Training opened its doors to members of the public and the college’s community partners at a special reception on April 2. The new facility is located on Valencia’s Osceola Campus. The new center first started operations in January providing more permanent space for the college’s short-term language programs in Osceola County, in addition to intensive English and English for speakers of other languages, multiple accelerated skills training programs will be offered in the building this spring, including heavy equipment operator, apartment maintenance technician, clinical medical assistant, carpentry and transportation logistics. With the opening of this building and another one in a few months, Valencia College takes a big step to offer short careers to those who are not necessarily looking for a course of two or four years to obtain a degree. These programs are the perfect tool for those who want to overcome and avoid jobs with minimum salary, most of them last four to eight months and upon completion they are given an official certificate recognized by several organizations that validate the program, giving them the opportunity to get or a job whose initial payment ranges from 15 to 20 dollars per hour. "This is a great step where Valencia College recognizes the specific needs
of our area and incorporates a series of short careers so that our community has a better future," said Guillermo Hansen, Valencia College Board. “We’re excited for our community, partners and prospective students to experience firsthand the educational support services that we will be offering as we continue to work together improving the quality of life in Osceola County,” says Carolyn McMorran, assistant vice president of professional and continuing education for Valencia College. All the programs offer assistance with career placement, funding assistance might be available and most of them are approved for veteran benefits, for programs please see the table. Estudiantes de UCF recaudan $1.2 milliones para ayudar a niños la filantropía administrada hospitalizados Orlando, FL - Más de 1,200 estudiantes de University of Central Florida (UCF por sus siglas en inglés) participaron en KnightThon, un maratón de baile de 20 horas que culminó una campaña de recaudación de fondos patrocinada por la universidad, en beneficio del Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Celebrando su vigésimo tercer año en UCF, Knight-Thon de este año recaudó $1,288,360. Knight-Thon, que se lleva a cabo anualmente en el CFE Arena, es

UCF students raise $1.2 million to help hospitalized children largest student-run philanthropy. Orlando, FL - More than 1,200 University Central of Florida (UCF) students participated in this past weekend’s Knight-Thon, a 20-hour dance marathon that culminates a year-long, university-sponsored fundraising campaign, benefitting Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. Celebrating its 23rd year at UCF, this year’s Knight-Thon raised $1,288,360. Held annually at the CFE Arena, Knight-Thon is UCF’s
UCF students raise money throughout the year, through various fundraisers and personal appeals. During Knight-thon, attendees are asked to remain on their feet throughout the event. The extended standing is designed to give participants a greater understanding of the mental and physical challenges faced by youth who are assisted by the Children’s Miracle Network. Students break into dance every hour on the hour.

Since opening its doors in 2004, HOLA has welcomed and assisted 175,000 residents, visitors and newcomers to the city from diverse cultural backgrounds by connecting them with more than 100 public agencies and community organizations that provide job search services, housing, health care services, educational opportunities and other resources. In addition, HOLA has participated in more than 500 community events over the past fifteen years and has partnered with more than 100 community organizations in Central
Florida, such as Second Harvest Food Bank/ACCESS Program that has allocated more than $4.1 million to our community in benefits of food stamps. Kissimmee, FL - La Ciudad de Kissimmee en alianza con Toho Water Authority se unen al reto nacional llamado “Mayor’s Challenge” para la conservación del agua que comenzó el lunes, 1 de abril de 2019.
Kissimmee, FL - The City of Kissimmee in partnership with Toho Water Authority joins the nationwide Mayor’s Challenge for water conservation to be most “water wise” starting on Monday, April 1, 2019.

Kissimmee linemen brought home trophies from national rodeo Kissimmee, FL - Kissimmee Utility Authority linemen brought home high marks and two trophies from Saturday’s Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colorado — the Super Bowl of electric linemen. Hosted by the American Public Power Association, the rodeo attracted 78 teams and 130 apprentices from utilities across the U.S. who gathered to demonstrate the safety, skill and endurance of electric linemen. The competition consisted of five timed events. KUA’s journeyman lineman team,
featuring Austin Franey, Shane Paras and Billy White, finished third in the nation in the hurtman rescue event, simulating the rescue of an injured co-worker. Apprentice lineman Brendan Laflamme finished third in the nation in the load transfer event. Other KUA linemen who competed included apprentices Austin Gunther and Chris Kitting. In addition, Robert Diaz served as team alternate, David Wolfe served as an event judge and Aaron Haderle served as the rodeo’s journeyman master judge.

Investigación de apuñalamiento, por favor ayude a identificar Condado Osceola, FL - El 30 de marzo de 2019, aproximadamente a las 2:16 a.m., los oficiales de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Osceola respondieron a Escape Hookah Lounge ubicado en el 4636 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway en Kissimmee, en referencia a un apuñalamiento. Los oficiales localizaron a dos víctimas que habían sido "asaltadas" con una de estas víctimas apuñalada. Ambas fueron transportadas y tratadas por sus
heridas las cuales no amenazaban sus vidas. La investigación reveló que un sospechoso llevaba una camiseta del Orlando Magic, mientras que otro vestía una camisa color verde claro. Stabbing investigation, please help to identify Osceola County, FL - On March 30, 2019, at approximately 2:16 A.M., Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Escape Hookah Lounge located at 4636 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee, in reference to a stabbing. Deputies located two victims who had been “jumped” with one victim being stabbed. Both victims were transported and treated for their injuries which were determined to be
non-life threatening. The investigation revealed one suspect was wearing an Orlando Magic jersey while another suspect was wearing a light green colored shirt. All suspects were described as Hispanic males, possibly of Dominican descent. Video surveillance was collected from the scene which shows the below group of suspects involved in the fight. Subjects arrested for shooting into a home Osceola County, FL – On March 26, at 1:14 A.M. Osceola County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 3108 Linton Road in Kissimmee, in reference to a Shooting. The victims stated they woke up to loud popping sounds and several bullet holes were in the house. The residence was struck numerous times; however, no one was injured. The investigation revealed the shooting was in
retaliation to an earlier physical altercation leading to detectives identifying Bernie Bob Velez (DOB 2/14/2000) and Peter Garcia Collado (DOB 9/22/1999) as the persons responsible for the shooting. The suspects were taken into custody and a firearm was located at the time of the arrests. Velez and Garcia-Collado are charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling.

Orlando, FL - On Wednesday, April 3rd, Orlando Magic secured yet another important victory over the New York Knicks defeating them 114-100 at the Amway Center. Both teams struggled to gain a lead and with the playoffs at stake for the Orlando Magic this game could not have been tenser. Orlando Magic struggled defensively in the first half giving away a lot of easy fouls. The third quarter started slowly, Terrence Ross stepped up and scored three consecutive threes’ in a row that helped push Orlando to a decisive victory. Ross scored 23 points, this is
the 17th time he’s scored 20 or more points. Nikola Vucevic had a great game, grabbing 13 rebounds and 29 points. Defensively Magic have a lot to work on, they allowed New York to get an easy advantage in the first quarter. Aaron Gordon ensured Magic’s win in the final quarter by scoring 8 of his 19 points in the final period. Orlando’s next game is against Atlanta Hawks this Friday at the Amway Center. Once again, with playoffs at stake, Orlando Magic needs to secure another win in order to better their chances for a spot in the playoffs.
