Juramentaciones / Swearing In Juramentación de Comisionados del Condado Osceola Osceola County, FL – Las Comisionadas del Condado Osceola, Viviana Janer (Distrito 2) y Cheryl Grieb (Distrito 4) prestaron juramento para su segundo mandato de 4 años el martes 20 de noviembre. La ceremonia se llevó a cabo en el tercer piso de la sala del tribunal del palacio de justicia del Condado Osceola. De cara al futuro, ambas comisionadas hablaron sobre asuntos pendientes y objetivos para su segundo mandato. Janer es la primera latina y la tercera hispana en ser elegida para el consejo de cinco personas. Ella tiene experiencia en contabilidad corporativa y fue juramentada por el alcalde de Orlando, Buddy Dyer. Grieb, la actual vicepresidenta de la junta y un agente inmobiliario fue juramentada por la jueza Carol Draper. Cuando fueron elegidas por primera vez en 2014, Janer y Grieb hicieron historia: la primera vez que dos mujeres han servido en la Junta de Comisionados del Condado al mismo tiempo. Osceola County, FL – Osceola County Commissioners Viviana Janer (District 2) and Cheryl Grieb (District 4) took the oath of office for their second 4-year terms on Tuesday. The ceremony was held in the thirdfloor courtroom of the Osceola County Historic Courthouse. Looking ahead, both commissioners talked about unfinished business and goals for their second terms. Janer is the first Latina and only the third Hispanic ever to be elected to the 5-person board. She has a background in corporate accounting and was sworn-in by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer. Grieb, the current Vice Chair of the board and a Realtor, was sworn-in by Judge Carol Draper. When they were first elected in 2014, Janer and Grieb made history – the first time two women have served on the Board of County Commissioners at the same time. Two years later Peggy Choudhry joined Grieb and Janer as the Commissioner for District 1 – the first time the board was comprised of most women, something that will continue for at least two more years. The Board of County Commissioners is scheduled to select a new chair and vice chair on December 3.

Kissimmee Police Department installed Safe Exchange Zone Kissimmee, FL - Ahead of the Holiday Season and with the increase ability to make online purchases, the Kissimmee Police Department rolled out new signage which indicates the lot in front of the Department is a safe space to exchange and buy-sell goods. This is to decrease the potential for crime by offering a designated location to complete business transactions. The sign, provided by Offer Up, encourages Kissimmee Residents concerned on safe sales of their personal property in public areas. The Kissimmee Police Department, which is monitored 24/7, may be used as a safe space to buy and sell personal property. This provides an alternative to those purchasing products on sites like Offer Up or Craigslist or other sites
which function similarly. The Police Department hopes this will encourage more safe exchanges of property as residents work to purchase gifts for their friends and families this Holiday Season. Citizens should take into consideration the following recommendations: • Tell a friend or family member where you are going and when you will return. • If possible, have someone accompany you. • Conduct exchanges during daylight hours. • Always trust your instincts and take additional safety precautions as necessary. Barry Manilow presents new concert and donates new Yamaha piano to Orlando H.S. Orlando, FL - Pop music icon Barry Manilow hopes others will follow his philanthropic lead as he brings his Manilow Music Project (MMP) to Jones High School in Orlando. The legendary singer/songwriter plans to donate a Yamaha piano to launch a local music instrument drive. Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument will receive two (2) free tickets (valid for pre-selected seat locations on a first-come, firstserve basis) for Manilow’s December 8 holiday performance at Orlando’s Amway Center. The MMP has conducted music instrument drives all over the country to assist local schools with their music programs. “I’m thrilled to bring the gift of music to these kids,” said Manilow. Sixty - six local children are adopted on national adoption Kissimmee, FL - On November 16th, judges in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties officially united 66 children with their new parents during an adoption ceremony, setting a local record for National Adoption Day. Fourteen children were adopted in Osceola County, 42 in Orange County and 10 in Seminole County. “Our kids and families are excited for this day because it means a new start,” said Glen Casel, president and CEO of Community Based Care of Central Florida (CBCCF), the lead agency overseeing foster care and adoption services locally. “Children yearn to feel safe and loved, and we’ve helped nearly 3,000 children find those families since our inception in 2004.” CBCCF hopes National Adoption Day will remind people about the number of children who still need permanent, loving homes. There are 115 children across the tri-county area currently in foster care and available for adoption. Space heaters can be a convenient source of supplemental heat for your home in cold weather, but they also increase the risk of fire and electric shock if not used properly. Heating equipment is the second-leading cause of U.S. home fires and the third-leading cause of home fire deaths, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Here are six tips for keeping your home safe and warm when it’s cold outside: •Inspect heaters for cracked or broken plugs or loose connections before each use. If frayed, worn or damaged, do not use the heater.

Osceola Stars Business Awards 2018 Orlando, FL - El pasado viernes 16 de noviembre, 2018 se celebró la entrega de los Osceola Stars Business Awards, en el Hotel Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek. Esto para continuar con la tradición de honrar a los líderes y a la iniciativa privada que han impulsado y destacado en su labor a favor de la comunidad y el desarrollo de la Florida Central. A esta ceremonia, acudieron autoridades como el Sheriff de Osceola, Russ Gibson, el director de asuntos multiculturales de la Ciudad de Orlando, Luis Martínez el cual represento al Mayor Buddy Dyer; también asistio Janet Quiñones de la Oficina del Senador Marco Rubio, entre otros. This awards event was attended by various Central Florida leaders and elected officials among them were Osceola County Sheriff, Russ Gibson, Luis Martinez, Director of multicultural affairs of the City of Orlando, who represented Major Buddy Dyer; also attended by Janet Quiñones from the Office of Senator Marco Rubio. The director of Hope Community Center, Sister Ann Kendrick was in charge of making a reflection and a prayer prior to the event, where she congratulated the winners for their work and commitment to the community. The director of the newspaper El Osceola Star, Guillermo "Bill" Hansen, welcomed the attendees, and recalled the history of Gala Osceola that he started 20 years ago in partnership with the Kissimmee / Osceola Chamber of Commerce, and now the tradition continues thanks to sponsors such as Wyndham Destinations, Orlando Magic, Valencia College, Angels for Kids On Call, El Osceola Star newspaper and Univision Orlando. Suspicious death investigation Kissimmee, FL - Sunday, November 25th, the Kissimmee Police Department received a call around 9:01AM from the Howard Johnson Hotel (4311 West Vine Street Kissimmee Fl) after a staff member located a person’s body outside the hotel. Minutes our Patrol Officers arrived on scene and confirmed a woman was dead. We are now able to confirm that Dana Monishia Stewart (DOB: 12/29/1984) of Osceola County was the person found dead. It’s unclear what Stewart was doing at or around the hotel prior to her death. Our investigators have been and are actively working to speak with those believed to have been in contact with Stewart before her death. Our detectives are treating this investigation into Stewarts death as suspicious based on the circumstances of how her body was discovered. Those details regarding the discovery are part of the ongoing investigation. Her cause of death was not immediately apparent to investigators. The Medical Examiner’s Office is currently working with our investigators to help find answers for Stewart’s family. No other information is available currently as this is an ongoing investigation.

Liga de campeones… ¡casi listos! Orlando, FL - Si querían una fase final de grupos de la UEFA Champions League reñida, emocionante y definida de último minuto, este no es el año. De los 16 boletos a octavos, 12 ya tienen nombre a falta de una fecha. Casi todo está definido en 7 de 8 grupos tras 5 partidos de la fase de grupos, siendo el grupo C el único sin clasificados. PSG, Napoli y Liverpool, cualquiera pueda pasar como primero o bien ser eliminado en la última jornada. Barcelona, Real Madrid y el Porto de los mexicanos Herrera y Corona, son los 3 equipos que ya definieron el 1° puesto de su grupo, tras sus triunfos esta semana. Roma y Schalke 04 son los dos equipos que amarraron su boleto como 2dos de grupo. En el grupo A: Borussia Dortmund y Atlético de Madrid.
