From the

Commodore Hi Members Hope everybody had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

The club was busy leading up to Christmas with a lot of members supporting our club.

The Kids Christmas party went really well with the kids having loads of fun.

As many are aware, we are now open on Sundays from 12noon and meals and snacks are available all afternoon.

There is a wonderful selection of snacks to try but look forward to some suggestions on new things we can try.

As members are aware there is no outside food or drinks to be brought to the club due to our health regulations and licensing requirements.

As the club grows from a small to medium into a large club, these changes are necessary going forward.

Our staff are doing a great job handling this growth but we as a facility welcome any suggestions in to the New Year.

Our management committee and staff ’s whole commitment is to enhance the member’s experience. At no stage do any of us try to disappoint members with our decisions but on the whole most of the members are very happy with the changes – small may they be.

We have a big programme over the next few months of summer so please come down and support your club.

Please feel free to approach me as you see me in the club and I will be happy to help.

Power Boat Report Hi Everyone Our planed river cruise had four boats leaving from Maylands XS 4ITTIVQMRX +VSZI /IERIW 4SMRX 6IWIVZI SR 7YRHE] 8L October. The weather again was not looking good but with constant web site hopping for the best weather forecast it was decided to continue with the planned trip. As it was, it turned SYX ½RI ERH [I EVVMZIH EX 4ITTIVQMRX +VSZI [MXLSYX E HVST SJ VEMR [LMGL GSRXMRYIH XS FI ½RI JSV XLI XMQI [I [IVI XLIVI Ian Kidd gave his brand new 100hp Honda a run which it ran a treat. No towing required! At around 2pm we packed up to return to Maylands with black clouds heading for us. We were 5 minutes out from the ramps when it started sprinkling. As we were quickly getting our boats back on the trailers the heavier rain arrived. The good thing was that the boat and trailer was washed down by the time we arrived home. All in all it was a great day out on the water and a nice picnic lunch with all the crew.

Our next planned event was a Club Crawl which included Fre mantle Yacht Club and East Fremantle Sailing Club on Saturday 14th November. We could not have picked a better day as it was forecasted to be 38 degrees and low winds. A group of six FSEXW PEYRGLIH JVSQ 3GIER 6IIJ 1EVMRE ERH LIEHIH HS[R XLI coast towards FYC lead by Peter Hawker and Corrie Coetzee as tail end Charlie. The run down was pleasurable and also the run back was just as good. No dolphins or whales to report, WSVV] 6EGLEIP 8[S FSEXW PIJX JVSQ 1EXMPHE &E] [LMGL - [EW one and had a leisurely cruise down river to Fremantle. We all arrived at FYC around the same time and had a nice lunch in their beautiful restaurant with a million dollar view. After lunch we headed to EFSC for coffee and cake and more refreshments. ;LEX E RMGI TPEGI XS WMX ERH VIPE\ SZIV PSSOMRK XLI 7[ER 6MZIV Thank you to FYC and EFSC for their hospitality and allowing us to share in their facilities. When leaving the club a small convoy split up and some headed back to the ramps and three boats, 4IXIV 8VIZSV ERH Q] WIPJ ERGLSVIH EX 6SGO] &E] WERH FEV XS LEZI E W[MQ ;LEX E [E] XS ½RMWL ER IRNS]EFPI HE] SYX [MXL friends. Thank you to all section members for another great day out with 8 boats and 27 members attending.

Dive Report Social Events It has been another busy two months for our section.

We hit the bowling alley last month and had a great time.

We had three teams who played two games with Steve Sullivan emerging triumphant with the highest overall score. The bowling was followed by a meal and a few drinks at Paddy’s Irish Bar in Joondalup.

The divers’ Xmas Party was hosted by Ben and Karen again this year (thanks guys) and as always we had a fantastic evening.

Saturday night turned a little weird after most had gone to bed, with a certain vintage diver (and others) getting quite frisky with 0SVVEMRI´W <QEW 8VII XLSWI TMGXYVIW WYVI [MPP QEOI KVIEX <QEW cards for next year.

We had six divers and two volunteers for shore support. A friendly seal delighted a couple of lucky divers with most seeing the amazing seahorses feeding on the pylons. The dive was followed by a BBQ brunch in the park.

PADI Scuba Training Our resident PADI dive instructor has been in demand this past month with a number of courses being purchased for Xmas.

The Sailing Section has completed the Early Summer Series (B Series), with an average of eight yachts competing. We had shifted our sailing to Sundays as a trial to see if it better suited the skippers and crew and Race Control personnel. - LEZI EWOIH XLI WOMTTIVW ERH GVI[ ERH 6EGI 'SRXVSP TIVWSRRIP I have asked our secretary, Brian Boylen to send out a questionnaire so our sailing committee and sailors can ascertain if Sunday Sailing is preferred to Saturday Sailing.

8LI 3677' LEW FIKYR STIRMRK EX RSSR 7YRHE]W ERH The ORSSC has begun opening at 12.00 noon Sundays and this certainly has worked well for the Sunday Sailing Trial. Some people have mentioned that they have commitments with their childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sporting activities on Saturdays. Naturally the Sailing Meeting will be guided by the feedback from the questionnaire.

The North Coast Series Regatta. ;I LEZI GSQTIXIH MR X[S 2'7 6IKEXXEW We have competed in two NCS Regattas, SRI MR 3GXSFIV ERH one in October and one in November. 8LI 6IKEXXE TVSKVEQQIH JSV (IGIQFIV [EW SRI MR 2SZIQFIV The Regatta programmed for December was postponed due to a strong wind warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology issued on the morning it was to be held. It is our policy to postpone immediately any sailing event if a strong wind warning is current. All yachts must have radio monitoring at all times during a sailing event.

Unfortunately, during the two regattas that have been sailed there have been quite a few incidents, resulting in injury to one sailor and damage to some of the yachts.

0SVVEMRI 'EQTFIPP SR 1MWWMRK 0MRGO [EW WXVYGO SR XLI XIQTPI Lorraine Campbell on Missing Linck was struck on the temple by the boom and was knocked overboard. 0SVVEMRI QEREKIH F] XLI FSSQ ERH [EW ORSGOIH SZIVFSEVH Lorraine managed to get back on board quite quickly but the skipper very wisely withdrew from the event, VIXYVRIH XS 3677' ERH KSX 0SVVEMRI [MXLHVI[ JVSQ XLI IZIRX returned to ORSSC and got Lorraine to the Medical Centre at Joondalup for precautionary x-rays XS XLI 1IHMGEP 'IRXVI EX .SSRHEPYT JSV TVIGEYXMSREV] \ VE]W and treatment. - EQ TPIEWIH XS VITSVX XLEX 0SVVEMRI WSSR ERH XVIEXQIRX I am pleased to report that Lorraine soon recovered and has continued to sail. In other incidents damage to the yachts was most unfortunate. I believe Goldie sailed by Shane and Carmen Irwin is still being repaired as I write.

Our postponed regatta will probably be sailed in conjunction with the two remaining programmed regattas by adding an extra race to each regatta.

I am including some photos of a Dutch Schooner, the Mare Fan Frysland which sailed out of Enkhuizen to Texel Island and Terschelling Island on a sailing bike cruise in June 2015.

Many thanks to Ken and Dee Treen for hosting the highly successful Sailing Christmas party. It was a wonderful night.
