From the Commodore Rick Green

It is with great pride that I take on the role of Commodore of the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club, following my election at the August Annual General Meeting. I am honoured by the confidence our members have placed in me and am committed to dedicating the time and effort required to support our club, our members and its continued growth into the future. We have a busy and exciting period ahead, with a great range of events and activities planned that we hope will appeal to all our members. As the days begin to warm and spring arrives, we look forward to welcoming more members, families and visitors to the club to enjoy all that Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club has to offer. CELEBRATING OUR FIRST BIRTHDAY As we approach our first birthday in our new club, we are looking forward to making December a very special month of celebration. Throughout December, we will be celebrating this important milestone with random birthday giveaways and surprises for our members. We encourage everyone to come down, enjoy the club, catch up with friends and be part of what promises to be a fantastic month. Keep an eye out for further details as we get closer — there will be plenty of opportunities to join in the celebrations. 4

MEMBERSHIP & OUR CLUB Membership continues to grow steadily, which is a wonderful reflection of the welcoming community we have created. Our club really is a special place, with magnificent marina views, great food, a new spring menu and, most importantly, a great group of people who make Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club what it is today. YOUR FEEDBACK MATTERS As we continue to develop our club, we want to hear from our members about what we can do better. We have introduced a suggestion box, located near the front door, where members can leave suggestions, ideas or feedback on things they feel would improve the club and the experience for everyone. I would also like to remind members that all Committee members are very approachable. If you have a concern, an idea or simply something you would like to discuss, please feel free to have a chat with any member of the Committee. We genuinely want to hear from you. Open communication and constructive feedback are important in helping us continue to improve and ensure the club remains a place that all members can be proud of.

MAINTAINING OUR CLUB STANDARDS As we move into the warmer months, I would also like to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining our club’s dress and presentation standards. We are fortunate to have a fantastic facility, and we want the standard of presentation within the club to reflect the quality of the venue and provide an enjoyable environment for all members and guests. As a reminder, sleeveless shirts and rubber thongs are not permitted for men, high-vis work clothing is not to be worn after 7.00pm, and fishing equipment is not permitted within the club. We are a relaxed and friendly sports club, and we want to maintain that atmosphere. At the same time, it is important that we lift the overall standard of appearance to a level that is appropriate and acceptable for our members, guests and visitors. I ask all members to support these expectations and help us maintain the standard we want for our club. GROWING OUR SPORTING COMMUNITY The introduction of the Jet Ski section has already exceeded expectations. The level of interest has been outstanding, and we are delighted to have the support and sponsorship of Sea-Doo WA. This is an exciting addition to the club and provides new opportunities for members to get involved on the water and enjoy another aspect of our sporting community.

A key focus for the year ahead will be continuing to strengthen all areas of our sporting community. We will continue to build our power boat, sailing, dive and Jet Ski sections by welcoming new members, creating more opportunities to get involved and delivering enjoyable events for members of all ages and levels of experience. BRINGING OUR MEMBERS TOGETHER Family events, social gatherings and the opening of the season will provide plenty of opportunities for members to come together, meet new people and celebrate the spirit of Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club. I encourage everyone to get involved, support our events, invite friends and make the most of the wonderful club we share. As we continue to grow, I believe it is important that we maintain the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that makes our club special, while also striving to improve the standards and experience we provide. I look forward to meeting more of our members over the coming months and to working closely with the Committee, staff, volunteers and all of our sporting sections to make this a successful, enjoyable and positive year for everyone. Most importantly, thank you to all our members for your continued support. This is our club, and together we can continue to make it something we are all proud to be part of. Warm regards

Rick Green Commodore

The Angling Report RESULTS

Boat Fishing – July 2026 Josh Teh

It has been a cracking stretch for the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club angling section. The weather largely played its part, the weigh-in tables stayed busy, our juniors flew the flag at a major tuna competition and years of persistence finally produced a club-first broadbill swordfish. Across these four events, the common thread was the depth of involvement throughout the section. Mini juniors, juniors, veterans, ladies and men all featured, while volunteers and organisers continued to keep the competitions running smoothly. JULY BOAT COMPETITION Once again, the weather gods had our backs. An easterly with a touch of north still delivered a very fishable forecast, continuing one of the best weather runs the boat section has enjoyed. Not a single competition had been postponed or cancelled at that point in the season, and 27 fishos signed on for the day. The Burns Beach “bread and butter” ground continued to produce herring and garfish, while small southern bluefin tuna were active beyond the Three Mile. Sean “Tyson Fury” landed the day’s biggest tuna at 2.1 kg. Samson fish were plentiful, although mostly smaller than usual, with Kiwi taking the best at 6.8 kg. King George whiting also featured heavily, and Rob “Chuckie” Walters continued his remarkable run with another fish over a kilogram, weighing 1.076 kg.

10

In Mini Juniors, Ashton Marsden placed third with 26.7 points, Taylor Gauci was second with 59.6, and Harvey Thomson edged home by just 0.4 points to win with 60. In Juniors, Cruze Marsden recorded 26.6 points and Jade Gauci took first with 49.0. Terry Bell won the Veterans division with 93.2 points. In the Ladies, Sam Tunahurst placed third on 76.5, Sally Gauci was second on 108.8, and Belinda Mallon produced a huge 12-species bag to win with 180.01. In the Men’s division, Glen “Buckets” Weymouth was third on 116.3, Kiwi second on 145.9 and Chuckie first with 150.2 points.

Away from the results, approval had been given for the proposed new weigh-in bench, with Elliot Tunahurst, Matt Knaylor and Glen Weymouth helping progress the details through management. New store-room shelving was also complete, and the section continued settling into its new home while exploring broader involvement through WAGFA.

Boat Fishing – August 2026 Josh Teh

AUGUST BOAT COMPETITION Although called the August competition, this event was held at the end of July. Another decent forecast encouraged 29 boaties onto the water, and with season categories tightening, there was plenty at stake. Tuna were firing from just inside the Three Mile to the temperature break in 42 metres. Jacob Bristow-Stagg’s fish, listed at 6.33 kg in the competition report, took the day’s tuna honours. King George whiting remained consistent, with Chuckie weighing a 736 g fish, while Sally Gauci claimed the biggest sand whiting. Andy Cas landed an uncommon local-comp capture, a 1.646 kg snook, and Aiden Marshall’s 8.9 kg Samson fish was the biggest of the day. There was also a first in the inter-boat competition, with Scotty and Sally Gauci combining for the win. RESULTS Harvey Thomson continued his outstanding Mini Junior season, winning with six species, five heaviest fish and 102 points, ahead of Taylor Gauci on 43.3. The Junior field was stacked: Jacob Bristow-Stagg placed third, Jade Gauci was second and Aiden Marshall won with 49.3 points after landing the competition’s biggest Samson fish. Terry Bell was the sole Veterans entrant and recorded eight species and 132.6 points. In the Ladies, just 1.8 points separated Sally Gauci on 127 and Belinda Mallon on 129.2. The Men’s result was almost as close: Chuckie finished third on 120.5, Scotty Gauci second on 140.2 and Glen “Buckets” Weymouth took first with 142.4. 12

With the final competition scheduled for 26 September, several categories remained wide open. Belinda Mallon held a one-point lead in the species category, nine points separated the leading inter-boat crews, 90 points split the top two women, and only 11 points separated Chuckie and Buckets in the Men’s standings. The new weigh-in bench was also expected before Christmas, ideally in time for the annual kids’ competition.

PGFC JUNIOR TUNA COMPETITION

A CLUB FIRST: BROADBILL SWORDFISH

The Thompson family enjoyed a huge weekend at the Perth Game Fishing Club Junior Tuna Competition, with Heidi and Harvey both earning major honours.

Congratulations to Glen “Buckets” Weymouth on catching the first recorded broadbill swordfish for the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club. It was a milestone built on more than eight years of persistence, countless hours on the water and the determination required to keep returning to one of the most demanding game-fishing pursuits.

Heidi was the star of the show, landing a 6.94 kg southern bluefin tuna on 6 kg line class. The fish earned her three awards: heaviest tuna for her age group, the 6 kg line-class win and most meritorious catch. Harvey also produced an excellent result with a 2.9 kg southern bluefin tuna on 4 kg line class, taking the award for the heaviest fish in his age group. It was terrific to see ORSSC represented at the event. Other members had also entered, but average weather and boat-maintenance commitments prevented some crews from getting on the water. Heidi and Harvey nevertheless ensured the club colours were well and truly visible.

The fish was captured during Clash of the Canyons, Perth’s premier swordfish competition run by the Perth Game Fishing Club. It was a fitting setting for a club-first capture and a memorable reward for a long campaign. This capture is a reminder of what makes the angling section special. Competition results matter, but so do the long campaigns, the knowledge shared between crews, the juniors learning the ropes, the volunteers at the scales and the good-natured banter that follows everyone back to the club. From local bread-and-butter species to tuna, Samson fish, mulloway and now broadbill swordfish, the recent run has shown the range of opportunities available to ORSSC anglers. Just as importantly, it has shown the depth of enthusiasm across every age group and division.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD There will also be a changing of the guard from October, with Josh taking over as Boat Captain from Glen “Buckets” Weymouth. Buckets has set the bar high, so Josh will be doing his best to keep the competitions running smoothly, the fishos pointing in the right direction and the banter at a suitably questionable standard. A big thanks to Buckets for everything he has put into the role. We are sure he will still be close by to offer advice, encouragement and the occasional reminder of how he would have done it!

The Angling Report (continued)

Beach Fishing – July 2026 Daniel Bell

So, it seems the 100% record of bad weather forecasts for our beach comps just won’t break with the July comp once again looking to be absolute rubbish! However, thankfully the weather (in my opinion) was better than what it was forecasted to be. That being said, the 0 star fishing weekend in the almanac was exactly on point with almost everybody reporting that the fishing was tough. Crew and I headed up to Jurien bay to start, trying our luck for a storm Pinky off the Jetty but, all we got was; soaking wet and freezing cold. While others instead opted to start close to home with hopes the weather would get better as the weekend progressed. This thankfully was the case and although weed was an issue, once again, most spots by the arvo were fishable and Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day. Only the one mini junior fished this comp, that being Crew Bell and although the fishing was tough he had a very reasonable bag including a very nice Gummy Shark of 11.91kg which easily beat the old club record. However his excitement was short lived as unfortunately for him his Dad (myself - Daniel Bell) got an even bigger one this weekend…”sorry mate!” The ladies division wasn’t so toughly fought this time round. Helen opted to only fish part of the comp so she could attend the Commodores Ball and although she still had 3 species in her bag, it was just no match for Bronny who had a cracker 14

comp! Bron managed 7 species for just under 15kg total weight which included a very nice Pink Snapper of 5.97kg and the only Mulloway caught in the comp weighing in at 7.59kg. Over to the Vets where we usually see some very high scores, but this is where the tough fishing was really noticed as the bags were noticeably lighter than usual. Ricko set a new record for his lowest beach score, showing he is human after all and can have a bad bag from time to time. Nevertheless, it was still enough for 2nd place just ahead of Vincey who, from what I heard, didn’t even have a fish on the board until very late Saturday night. The other part-time fisherman/ part time Ball attender Bruce Bennett managed to capitalised on his short fishing window and his 5 species bag secured himself 1st place in this month’s comp.

Finally the Men’s division, where the top 3 only had a mere 6 species each. Adam Broadhead snuck into 3rd place, Kiwi just ahead of him with the addition of a small Pinky had enough weight in his bag to finish in 2nd. But the man of the match was myself. My bag, while not overly exciting, included that new club record Gummy Shark that I mentioned earlier of 13.57kg which helped me across the line to finish in 1st place. Not much else to note this month so here’s hoping our August comp has some better weather and fishing.

Thanks as always to everyone who helped out on the day and I hope to see you all on August 15th/16th for our second last comp of the season!

The Angling Report (continued) LUCK Y COMPE TITOR PRIZE

Beach Fishing – August 2026 Daniel Bell

You wouldn’t believe it! 2nd last comp of our 2025/26 season and we finally had a good weather forecast…..but….someone must have forgot to tell the fish we were all heading out to try catch! Unfortunately all of the 14 members who weighed in reported that the fishing was exceptionally tough for the weekend and It was at that point that I wasn’t too angry that I couldn’t make this event myself. Reports across the board were that weed was also a big issue which has been the case most of the season but in my opinion this is not always a bad thing when targeting big fish. This did seem to be the case though and while the species counts were low. There was a number of really nice fish weighed. Infact we had 5 snapper weighed in believe it or not this was actually more then the amount of Tailor that were weighed. This is mind blowing to me but also shows a lot of us have changed our way of fishing and are now actively targeting bigger fish aswell and trying to get the species count up. Most of these snapper were around 5kg with the biggest being a ripper fish of 7.3kg caught by the ‘Snapper Lord’ Kiwi. Terry Bell tried a spot he has been wanting to try for awhile now and was rewarded with 2 very nice Gummy Sharks. The biggest of which was 11.81kg, up until last months comp this would have beaten our previous club record by nearly 6kg, clearly some very healthy gummy sharks around at the moment.

16

Another note worthy thing to mention was the amount of KG whiting caught. I would say 90% of the bags had a KG in it. I’ve said it before but years ago we would be lucky to see 1 or 2 weighed in a year.

Vince Cox

Anyways let’s look at the individual results. No mini juniors weighed in this month unfortunately, and only one Junior. Cruse Marsden went away with his grandad Graeme Cole and while only weighing 1 fish it was of course enough for the win. In the ladies it was once again Bron and Helen dueling it out. This month H was our runner up with 4 species and Bron although only having one more species had nearly 9kg of bag weight, including a snapper of 2.741kg and a decent size Wobbie so quite easily took the win.

The Vets as always was hotly contested, Ricko found himself in 3rd place just behind Terry Bell but Vincey Cox was too strong this month! He had a good bad which included a small Shovelnose and a lovely Pink Snapper. And finally the Men’s, where we saw Chris Graves in 3rd position and Joe Wettinger in 2nd place. Kiwi did really well and took the choccys, his 5 species bag had just over 13kg of bag weight which was what got him over the line this month. Anyways that’s enough from me, as always thank you to everyone who helped out over the weekend and I look forward to our last comp for the season on September 19/20. Hopefully it can be a good one!

WINTER SERIES WRAPS UP IN STYLE The 2026 Winter Series is in the books, and it delivered exactly the kind of close, unpredictable racing that keeps the ORSSC fleet coming back week after week. Across six races run between 20 June and 29 August, off Ocean Reef, the lead changed hands more than once, a couple of boats staged genuine comebacks, and the final race of the series threw up a result nobody saw coming. HOW THE SERIES UNFOLDED Hot Gossip flies out of the blocks. Ian Cambell's Hot Gossip was the story of the early series, taking line-honours-adjusted wins in W1, W2 and W3, then backing it up with second placings in W4 and W5. Five races, five podiums: a genuinely dominant run through the middle of winter. Race W1 W2 W3 W4 W5 W6

18

Date 20 Jun 4 Jul 18 Jul 1 Aug 15 Aug 29 Aug

Whimaway keeps pace. Scott Forrest's Whimaway was the closest thing to a rival all series, sitting second in W1 and W2 and grabbing the win outright in the blustery 10-20 knot conditions of W4. RUSNMERE times its run. Alan Peacham's Rushmere was quietly consistent all series before timing its peak perfectly, taking the win in W5. And then, W6. The final race flipped the script completely. Mike Anderson's Serenity, who had posted a DNF back in W4, came from nowhere to take the win. Terry O'Grady's Quicksilver rounded out a strong finish in second, and Paul Phipps's Kellamity Jayne rounded out the podium in third. Meanwhile Hot Gossip, the series' most consistent performer, finished last on the day, a reminder of just how quickly fortunes can turn on the water at Ocean Reef. Five different skippers took a race win across the series, a good sign for the depth and competitiveness of the fleet heading into the warmer months. BEHIND THE RACE LINE None of this happens without the small crew of volunteers who run Race Control every second Saturday, doing radio checks, starting the fleet, watching the line for rule breaches, and logging every finish time by hand. The Section's new remote race management system, still being fine-tuned since its debut in Winter Race 1, is at the heart of it: a 6-metre, centre-hinged start/finish pole on the breakwater carries a video camera, light board, solar panel and battery, feeding back to a race console with video monitors in the clubhouse, alongside a 25-watt VHF base station used to check in with the fleet. Out on the water, racing runs across ten courses marked by nine buoys, five of them maintained by ORSSC volunteers (the other four are DoT Special Marks); the team is replacing two marks and building a spare over the coming month. Each boat races off a handicap too, correcting the raw finishing times so a 20-footer and a 30-footer can compete fairly on the same course, which is exactly how a boat like RUSNMERE can find itself in the mix with the bigger yachts in the fleet. STILL SAILING, STILL SOCIAL Winter Series wins aside, the real constant has been the Sailing Dine-Ins on the first Friday of each month: sailors, crew and volunteers swapping stories over a meal, comparing notes on the next race, and keeping the Section's social side as strong as its racing.

WHAT'S NEXT ON THE CALENDAR Opening Day is the next big date on the calendar: Sunday 4 October brings the traditional Sail Past alongside the Commodore's Cup, with all ORSSC boat owners encouraged to take part. From there's no rest for the fleet. Their attention now turns to the marquee events of the spring and summer calendar: the Commodores Cup, the Melbourne Cup raceday on 3 November, and the always-popular Spring series (SP1-SP6) running from October through to March. The North Coast Series (NCS) heats up across three weekends in October, November and February, and the Alkimos Long Race and Ladies Race return as season highlights, alongside the traditional Sailing Dine-Ins and Sailing Meetings held throughout. GET INVOLVED Looking ahead to 2026/27, the Section's goals are simple: get more ORSSC boats out racing, build on this year's participation in regattas such as North Coast, Cockburn, Walpole and Geographe Bay, and open up more crewing opportunities for members keen to get afloat. Whether you're an experienced racer or you've never set foot on a trailer sailer, the ORSSC Sailing Section is a welcoming place to start. New skippers can get in touch at sailing@orssc.asn.au, and crewing opportunities are always available via orsscsailcrew@gmail.com. See you on the water.

The Power Boating Report

October 2026 Report Darren Michael

A huge hello to all. My name is Darren Michael the new Rear Commodore for the Powerboat section. My wife, Tracey, and I have owned our Whittley SL 22 for fourteen years. I have been around boats for most of my life and being on the water gives both Tracey and I a great deal of joy. Our three girls have grown up with boats and we have spent innumerable hours as a family on our boat. The girls learnt how to drive boats long before they were allowed to drive a car. Apart from working to make the Powerboat section a hugely enjoyable experience for all of you who are a part of the section I am also looking forward to contributing to the running and future planning for the Club as a member of the Management Committee. I completed the AICD company Directors course some years ago, run my own business and have been on the Board of Swimming Western Australia for 5 years,4 of those years as President.

20

As I am new to the role I am still working on an events calendar which I will bring to the next section meeting in September. We have in the planning so far, whale watching, a Moore River trip, fish and chip run, potentially a Geographe Bay trip as well as the already planned jointly with the diving section Point Perron. I will confirm the dates shortly. I hope that we can put together a calendar of activities that engages a wide range of our section members that encourages more of you to become further involved. I encourage all section members to reach out to me with ideas. The more varied the ideas for activities hopefully the greater appeal for as many of you as possible.

Remember I am only the custodian of the section, you are the owners, so please help me by letting me know of any ideas you might have. JET SKI SUBSECTION Hi – My name is Allen; my wife Denise and I have been members of ORSSC for over 10 years. In March 2026, the then Commodore Graham Hindley and Rear Commodore Rick Green asked if I would be interested in setting up a Jet Ski section as a subsection of Power Boats. I was delighted. I’ve been riding my ski for 15 years and was aware we sometimes “get a bad name” as loons on the water. Of course there are people on the water who lack knowledge, skills and respect for others…..we are not those people.

The aim of the section is to make change through inclusion and education regarding safety both on the water launching ramp and the water and of course have fun exploring our west whilst also using the facilities of our wonderful new club to develop this leisure sport.

We have a Messenger Group to keep in touch with each other – initially meeting the 1st Sunday for a couple of months, with a weekly mid-week ride to help include shift workers and parents with children sporting commitments on weekends. Moving forward we have added another event every third Saturday.

I met David Donald (WA Seadoo dealer of the year 2026) when I bought my first ski; he has been in the industry many years, has a wealth of knowledge and always happy to give guidance and advice. I told him about the new section, and he was happy to be involved as corporate sponsors, promoting the sport to ensure safety is the ultimate priority.

So far, it’s been terrific. It’s great to be on the water with like minded people, friendships are developing and of course we finish at the Club for lunch or coffee.

We started with Charles (Seadoo), Cindy and me and has now grown quickly to include 15 club members with skis and 20 others with skis. Some have their applications for membership in the system; some have already been approved.

ORSSC is the only club in Perth that has a Jet Ski section! Amazing. There is a poster in the office window with our contact details if anyone is interested in joining the section please do not hesitate to make contact. You do not need to have a ski, you will be made very welcome.

Winter Waters, Warm Company Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club Dive Section looks back on quiet winter dives, lively social gatherings and a fresh season of underwater adventures ahead. SUMMARY The Dive Section has enjoyed a winter season filled with memorable local dives, relaxed social weekends and a lively end-of-season celebration, while members now look ahead to warmerweather activities including the Opening of the Season, Jurien Bay, Point Peron and Busselton trips. Bambun Farm Swan River Night Dives End Of Season Dinner

PAST EVENTS As winter settled in, the choice of good diving days became narrower, but the spirit of the Dive Section stayed strong. With conditions changing quickly, members kept a close eye on the weather and the WhatsApp group became the place for last-minute opportunities. When spare boat spots appeared, they were snapped up quickly by divers keen to make the most of a calm window on the water. Even the coveted Bocce trophy joined the fun, making a memorable trip below the surface and proving once again that this section never misses a chance to add humour to an adventure.

Campfires, Caravans and Country Hospitality The winter program was not only about diving. On 5 and 6 June, a strong turnout of caravans, tents and swags rolled into Bambun Farm near Gingin for a weekend that combined practical work, shared meals and good company. Friday night set the tone, with members gathering around the fire and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere that makes these trips so valuable. By Saturday morning, the chainsaws were out in earnest and the wood heap received a healthy boost before around 30 people headed to the Gingin Tavern for lunch. Saturday night delivered exactly what a winter farm weekend should: a generous feast, a roaring fire and plenty of laughter. Roast meats, rolls, gravy, salads and desserts ensured nobody went hungry, while the conversation carried well into the night. It was a great reminder that the Dive Section is as much about community as it is about time in the water.

Night Diving on the Swan On 26 June, Green Place Reserve at Mosman Park became the launch point for a night dive on the Swan River, opposite Point Walter. Rain arrived just as the divers entered the water before 6 pm, but below the surface visibility was good and the hunt for Swan River prawns and crabs was on. The result was a bag full of prawns and a satisfying finish, made even better by coffee, hot chocolate and a welcome nip of port after the dive. The section returned to Green Place Reserve on 24 July for another night dive, again enjoying good visibility and another successful search for prawns and crabs. These simple mid-winter dives showed how rewarding local waters can be when conditions line up and a keen group is ready to go.

A Season Finale with Plenty of Personality The End of Season celebration on 4 July brought the Dive Section together with the Power Boat Section for an evening cruise on the Swan River. With 53 people attending, the theme asked guests to dress as anything beginning with P for Power Boat or D for Dive. The creativity was outstanding, with Lina taking best dressed as Pauline Hanson alongside Donald Trump, while Erick earned a special mention as the Pope.

DJ Robbie Burns kept the dance floor moving, while the after-dinner quiz added plenty of fun, especially the music round with Indian versions of well-known songs raising the difficulty. The results were close, the winning table took home the goodies, and the night delivered everything hoped for: great food, great music, great company and plenty of laughter while cruising the Swan. The evening also provided an opportunity to recognise the people who helped make the season such a success. Thank you to Kate Newall for her hard work and support, Dave Baronet for best support for the year, Erick and Di Erhard for their support, and Jordie Younghusband for best effort on the Cray Comp.

Looking Ahead to Warmer Weather As the weather warms, the Dive Section is already preparing for a busy program of dives, displays and social activities. The Opening of the Season on 4 October will be a great chance to showcase both old and new dive equipment, meet section members and welcome anyone interested in getting involved. New divers can sign up for a try dive, while returning divers who need a refresher course will be able to talk through options and book in.

Upcoming Highlights From 23 to 25 October, the section heads to Jurien Bay for a weekend trip including a Saturday charter with Jurien Bay Oceanic. The plan includes two dives across a four-and-a-half-hour tour, with hot drinks and refreshments supplied, followed by a section dinner at the tavern before returning Sunday. Point Peron is booked for 4 and 5 December, bringing local shore dives, potential boat dives and the much-loved Dive Section Christmas party. Further ahead, Busselton from 19 to 21 February will feature a dive on the Busselton Jetty, while Point Peron returns to the calendar from 9 to 11 April for another autumn dive weekend. Winter may have slowed the diving, but it did not slow the enthusiasm. With full calendars, full tables and full dive bags, the Dive Section is heading into the new season with momentum.

Around The Club Melissa Robertson

WHAT A FEW MONTHS IT HAS BEEN! If you’ve been around the Club lately, you’ll know there’s been plenty happening! After a big year of settling into our new home, finding our feet and getting all the moving pieces working together, it’s fantastic to see the Club really starting to come alive. The past few months have been packed with new events, live entertainment, great food, plenty of laughs and most importantly, members getting together and enjoying their Club. And we’re only just getting started! WE’VE BEEN ENTERTAINED! We’ve certainly had some memorable nights recently. Adam & Selina’s Illusions of the Mind had us questioning absolutely everything! It really was an incredible show and those who attended will know exactly what we mean when we say it was a serious workout for the brain. The feedback was fantastic, and we’ve already had plenty of members asking when they can come back for Illusions of the Mind 2.0. We’re listening, so watch this space! We’ve also turned up the volume with not one, but two fantastic tribute band nights. The Robbie Williams Experience had the Club singing, dancing and partying the night away, 26

followed by our INXS Tribute, which took things up another notch and had the first floor absolutely jumping. It’s been fantastic to see members getting behind these events, and live music is something we’re keen to build into the Club’s calendar much more regularly. We’re looking at a mix of music and entertainment that gives everyone something to look forward to, from tribute bands and live performers through to DJs and bigger event nights. Have a tribute band you’d love to see at ORSSC? Let us know! We can’t promise we’ll be able to book every suggestion, but we’ll certainly take a look.

While things have been a little quieter over winter, our bar team has been busy developing their cocktail skills and getting ready for the warmer months. We’ve got some fun, fresh and fruity creations planned for summer, along with some festive favourites as we head towards Christmas. So whether your drink of choice is a cocktail, a cold beer, a glass of wine or something without the alcohol, our bar team is looking forward to keeping you refreshed over the warmer months. ONE YEAR IN OUR NEW HOME! WHAT’S COMING UP? And just when you thought we might slow down… think again! There’s a big few months ahead at ORSSC, with plenty of reasons to get down to the Club. Opening of the Season will bring our sections, sponsors, members and community together for a big day of activities, live music, demonstrations and plenty of family fun. Then we have Melbourne Cup, Kids Christmas, our Christmas Buffet, a new addition to the summer schedule our Summer Outdoor Movie Series and of course, New Year’s Eve. And that’s just the beginning. Looking ahead to next year, we’re already working on some exciting new ideas including Long Table High Teas, Beats at the Reef, with an epic day and night of DJs taking over the first floor, Australia Day celebrations and plenty more. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes, so keep an eye on our socials, newsletters and Club noticeboards so you don’t miss what’s coming up. SOMETHING NEW FROM THE KITCHEN Our kitchen team has been working hard behind the scenes and we’re excited to have launched our new Spring/Summer menu. This is the biggest menu we’ve produced so far, with plenty of new dishes and flavours to try alongside some of the favourites we know members love. As we head into the warmer months, it’s the perfect time to grab a table, bring the family or catch up with friends and work your way through the menu. You might even discover your new favourite! A huge thank you to our chefs and kitchen team for the work that goes into creating, testing and delivering the food that comes out of our kitchen every day. SOMETHING COLD FROM THE BAR Summer is coming… and we think that deserves a cocktail or two!

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost at the one-year mark in our new Clubhouse. It feels like only yesterday we were preparing to open the doors, and what a year it has been! There have been plenty of challenges along the way, but there have also been some amazing moments. We’ve welcomed thousands of members through the doors, introduced new events, built new relationships, welcomed new faces and started creating what we hope will become many years of great memories at ORSSC. So, of course, we think that deserves a celebration! So from 1 December, we’ll be celebrating our first year in our new home with a series of prize draws leading up to Christmas. We’ve got some fantastic prizes being donated by our amazing Club sponsors, along with prizes from the Club itself. It’s our way of saying thank you to our members for supporting the Club, getting behind our events and helping make the new Clubhouse feel like home. So make sure you’re around the Club throughout December, because you never know when your name might be called! HERE’S TO THE NEXT YEAR! There’s no doubt we’ve still got plenty of work to do, but when we look around the Club and see members enjoying themselves, families coming through the doors, busy event nights, live music, great food and a team that is continuing to grow and find its rhythm, there’s plenty to be excited about. The new Clubhouse is starting to feel like our Club, and we’re looking forward to filling it with even more memories, music, laughter and good times. Bring on summer!

The Poker Report

ORSSC Club Poker Joe Wettinger

WE ARE BACK!! Some members are aware ORSSC hosts Texas Holdém Poker on a Tuesday evening. The game began more than 20 years ago as a social get-together for a few members who felt it would be a fun and wonderful social event every week. Today, it has developed into a weekly social competition that members love. Our weekly games' format changed because of the social gambling act's stringent regulations. As most people know, we took a six-week pause to go through a thorough audit by the local government, industry regulation, and safety (wagering & community gaming compliance). Our Tuesday night weekly games were found to be completely compliant with the pertinent provisions of the Gaming Act, and we were given the all-clear to continue again. The structure is tournament poker, not cash poker; the distinction is that you only must pay an admission fee to play, and you don't have to keep buying chips and risking your hard-earned money. The amount of tournament entries will determine how many winning spots are awarded, such as 1 table (8 players) with only first place, 2 tables with first and second place, 3 tables with first, second, and third place, etc. 32

At the conclusion of each season, the champion will receive a plaque attached to a perpetual trophy named for that season. We play our tournaments in seasons, which typically last 25 weeks. Points are granted every week and accumulate over that season.

Currently, tournaments take place every Tuesday from 7 to 11.30 p.m.

In addition, we have introduced a weekly side pot competition (last man standing) of $20

Registration is open from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

The last man standing in the $20 side pot wins the entire side pot

If you're running late, text or call Joe at 0403601160. Late entries will not be allowed.

Please note ALL tournament entry fees collected each night are paid out each night as the prize pool

NOT A MEMBER?

WINNERS ARE GRINNERS

Poker is available to all financial members, but you must be a member to regularly attend the club and take part in any activities.

Congratulations to Paul H for the most Kills for season 1 of Joe Darcy Memorial Tournament Paul eliminated 34 players throughout the season.

You can visit and participate in two tournaments if you are not a member, but you must always have a financial member sign you in. If you wish to continue playing you can join either as a full member or as an associate sports member ORSSC so you can only participate in poker events (conditions apply) For any Questions or additional information, please contact Joe Wettinger 0403 601 160 We are grateful to everyone that comes every week to help set up and stays until the very end to help clean up the tables, chairs, and poker chips. Weekly Entry cost Thirty Dollars ($30)

Finally thank you for your support and hope to see you at a table soon
