Dear Friends,
I hope you are ready to laugh, smile, and get that all-over-wonderful-feel-good fuzziness that comes from watching a great, heartfelt comedic musical. Because Mrs. Doubtfire is all that…and then some! The much-loved Robin Williams movie of the same name is now the smash Broadway musical. I am glad you are here today to experience this story of a man who loved his children so much that he would do anything for his kids!
Speaking of getting an all-over-wonderful-feel-good fuzziness, I sure felt it from the 930 people in the room when we announced our new 2024-2025 Broadway Season at the Orpheum! Eight shows, five of which are new to Memphis, plus two reimagined revivals of classic tales and the return of Hamilton I think it is one of the best seasons we have ever had at the Orpheum.
One of the things I am most happy about in our ‘24-‘25 season is that three of the shows we are bringing to Memphis were helped to the Broadway stage by the Orpheum Theatre Group. Along with our colleagues from the Independent Presenters Network, the Orpheum was a co-producer of Girl From the North Country and Some Like It Hot. Both of these shows received Tony nominations in the Best Musical category the year they premiered.
On its own, the Orpheum Theatre Group was an investor in the Broadway production of Kimberly Akimbo, which won the Tony for Best Musical this past June! This win marks the fifth Tony Award the Orpheum can claim, joining Thoroughly Modern Millie, Spamalot, Memphis the Musical and The Band’s Visit.
While I tell you about our Tony wins in a humble-brag sort of way, I hope you are proud that your hometown theatre is known within the Broadway industry as an important partner for producers who bring new work to the stage.
Participating in Broadway productions gives the Orpheum credibility in the business, which in turn helps us to bring the great shows to Memphis, like Mrs. Doubtfire
And all the wonderful shows we have in store for you in our 2024 – 2025 Broadway Season!
Thank you again for your support of the Orpheum Theatre Group. Enjoy Mrs. Doubtfire!
Caring for the community starts with providing support for the people who live in it. So we’re proud to sponsor Orpheum Theatre Group. Together, we can inspire and build better lives and communities.
